Hi people
We are at the end of 2014, the LG 4X HD have more than 2 years of life.
I liked it, but now the phone is laggy, autonomy sucks (need a 4800mah and finish at 40% my days on CM11), my screen have strange little white points..ect
It was a good companion, but it's time...TO CHANGE !
And i suppose i'm not the only one here who will do this (or have done this).
So, what are you going to buy (or already bought) for replace your 4X HD ?
I think i gonna buy the LG G3, because i like big screen, good perf, LG functionalities. He haves a "good" autonomi, nice camera, cool screen and cost less than 380€ (good deal :good: )
Or maybe a Huawei Honor 6, cheaper, smaller but good too.
And you ?
I'll wait for q1 2015 to change device probably, if the phone survives till then since I cracked the screen few weeks ago. Gonna pick up snapdragon 810 device, possibly z4
Probably One PlusOne or LG G3. But very likely OPO.
On Saturday I switched to the HTC One M8, after I have softbricked my 4X HD with a Lollipop Test build I have compiled. [emoji43] Anyways, the 4X HD was laggy with every rom after a while and battery life and GPS were horrible and sooner or later I wanted to buy a new smartphone anyways. My big thanks to the great devs here! Hope you'll get Android Lollipop working!
Greetings,

Well, every now and then i click through new phones, i very much like the honor 6, i love the Z3 compact for its water resistance (who wouldnt want to take a shower while keep listening to his favorite audio book?), but i always end up thinking "why would i need a new phone? the lg 4x hd is still good, it has 720p, it has a quad core with 1,5GHz, and i dont really need more atm. phones like that still cost 200+ €, and i dont want to spend 300€ or more for a marginal performance boost."
after all, its still only a phone. its not my friend, its not a PC, its no house, and it will never be.
99% of the time i use it for communication, email and whatsapp that is, and it can do this as good as every hi-end phone.
at work i have a full fledged PC, at home i watch TV on a smart TV with amazon prime / maxxdome, i play on my PC, not on the phone, so theres really little useful space left for a 500€ high end phone.
its a toy, you want to have it, because you are used to wanting it, but thats because you got drilled to feel this way your whole life. :silly:
i will wait until this phone design gets more useful.
i can imagine a phone with an included beamer for displaying, with a laser keyboard for typing, i want REAL mobile flatrates, but until then i just dont need a "new" device with about the same specs for another some-hundred Euros. I bought a new Battery for 7€ at amazon for the p880, and that was enough for me.
So: I will wait until my phone breaks or some of the ideas i mentioned above will find their way into new products, but for now im fine with our good old p880.
Wow it's funny nobody look for the same phone, some Z4 (good luck for waiting ), Z3C, M8...
But take a Nexus 5 now, when some flagship of 2014 fall under 350€ ? mmmh
And yes the OnePlus One looks cool too, but bugs and SAV don't reassure me, so nope
But the most stranger here is...that nobody want to retake a LG Device ?

You are right Adam77Root, but the LG G2 will have 5.0 like the G3, so it's better now (it can't be worst yep ^^)
Got an invite to the Oneplus One. Fairly cheap and fast hardware is what I like .
Before I switch to it though I'm (hopefully) gonna test Android 5.0 on the P880 first.
Loved this phone, got it for around 130 US $. Gets pretty hot sometimes but it still runs everything just fine with Zaiben RC17 rom.
I've bought an Redmi 1s.
No regret, for it's price, it's verry nice .
iam already on Sony Z3, x4 was a bad experience in every way
I have a "very bad" temptation : I might buy a Blackberry Passport which gives me the opportunity to be different and at the same time not to leave the Android World completely...
But the cost is very very high at the moment and Sony Z3 compact could be a better reasonnable choice
Welp, I buckled down and ordered Oneplus One with my friend from Germany, and it was delivered to him today. I'll be switching to Oneplus One once he's back in Bosnia, in a week or two.
I'll keep monitoring our phone subforum untill I recieve it, and hopefully even after that. @Demetris , @laufersteppenwolf, @Adam77Root - Thanks a bunch for everything you've done for our device. @iodak , hvala i tebi brate.
Thanks go out as well to @Rudjgaard, @ectoplasma22, @alfsamsung, kholk, and everyone else who contributed to making our device better. If I missed anyone, and I surely have, I apologise.
Take care everyone.

Hey everyone
My Desire just died last night :-/
And I need a new phone... My question is just:
Should I buy a optimus 2x or find something else in the same price range ??
I have never used an android phone for very long with the original rom.. if it changes anything here...
I ask mostly because when the 2x cam to market, there was a lot of talk about that the phone was a piece of...crap....
is it any better now ?
Best regards
B4Me
Nope and it will never be...HW is solid, and SW will put it to the drain. Just wait for Nexus and you're all good
buy it i never had one problem only the stock rom is a little slow but if you put a custom rom an it, then it will be fast
If price is right i don't see any reason why not to buy o2x. I got mine from local shop for 200€

Then I'll take your word for that its good
as you're a dane, I can reviele, that I'm wobling between buying it from "føtex" og Telmore
2499 dkk right now...
or
3200 dkk over 6 months...
I'm one of the peopple who has had a dodgy phone with BSODs
But I think I'd say.....
If you plan to root and install a custom then yes it's a good phone. (though make sure that if you get a BSOD you get the handset replaced asap).
The custom GB roms out for this phone make it a solid handset.
Though, after the announcement that the Nexus S will receive ICS, perhaps that's a better handset to purchase?
Hardware is awesome, no doubt about that.
Just one thing I dislike about this phone. LG came out with a half-finished OS, and very slow on updates.
Don't think I'll buy a phone from LG again.
I'd personally go for Samsung G II, Galaxy Nexus or Motorola RAZR (if you can get your hands on it)
i just bought this phone a couple of weeks ago, at a very cheap price as well.
But yes, as stated the hardware is quite something and the software is ehh...
So if you dont feel like installing custom roms and would like ice cream sandwich in a couple go the nexus s, it would be your best bet
but on the other hand, you would admire your O2x with the installation of custom roms.
i know i did.
Dont buy it bro!, hardware is good but if you want to prove the newst software you have to stay behind the scenes!! ----) CM7 - toogigi , modaco, and other custom rooms, on the other hand nvidia dont release its code, so that complicate thins, if I dont see progress I will sell my phone and go for something next year!
If you are still undecided watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCMT46SYgj4
Its my phone stock but rooted. The video is unmodded to see what that baby can really do
not to buy, i think, or it wil take time to wait for update or return to factory to repair.
It is a good buy.
dont buy. Its a piece of ****. Hardware is pretty good but thats it. Software sucks.
I have this and I can get the Nexus S for same price. Only reason I chose this is for the sd card slot. If you don't need an SD card slot get a Nexus instead. After all the Nexus is how its supposed to be, not these manufacturer tainted versions. If all androids were like the nexus in the first place then very few people would have bothered to develop custom roms for it.
In the end you need to pick which camp you want to be in, the nexus camp with smooth sailing or the lg with false update promises and roms that work better on g2x than on o2x.
My friend got a white SGS2 recently and that phone is beautiful. Despite its large screen that phone actually fits in my hand when I sms and doesnt feel like I'm not having a proper grip. Its super thin and super light and truly sexy.
Don't ever buy an LG device.
Yes and No
As standard, I was ready to smash this phone. it was Laggy, overheated, crashed, rumoured Updates never arrived. I'd had enough.
Then I put Topogigi v2.0 on it. It's like having a completely different phone. Smoother, Faster
The Neoblaze Kernel lets you overclock to 1.4Ghz.
I'm finally liking this phone again
I've absolutely bashed LG for every phone they made because in all honesty, theyre crap. They are horrible cell phone manufacturers and they should stick to TV's.
After seeing the Optimus4X I was pretty impressed, but it was an LG so I wouldnt buy it anyways.
Then I saw the Optimus G. Hmmmmm theyre getting somewhere, the specs are there and the phone actually looks nice. But its STILL an LG.
Then the Nexus 4....holy cow this thing is amazing. PRICE, specs, build quality (that i can tell from videos)
But its an LG...........
IDC
The fact that it doesnt have LTE or a removable battery or expandable storage was nothing new. They had already said that it was not going to happen. Except for the LTE I mean. Thats not that important. Only ATT is a GSM carrier with LTE right now and they hardly have any. So pretty much no one cares..
BUT ITS AN LG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could just care less. Maybe they had to use them to keep the price down. Its ok Google. With that firepower, it could be a ZTE or something crappy like that and I would still buy it. Put a case over it and cover that branding LOL.
But all in all, how can you hate a phone this cheap with these specs from Google?
If you do, im sorry but go away. go buy an iphonecrap
I was literally about to pay full price for a galaxynote2. but then this was announced.
I can buy 2 of these if i want for the same money.
Enjoy the phones my friends. I will.
(if you dont go away)

Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
LGs typically sucked because of the horrible software builds. This being a nexus pretty much eliminates that big issue.
The s4 pro has great battery. The optimus g gets 8 hours screen on. The issue is the prerelease software the reviewers got. Expect the final version to do similar if not better the optimus g.

I'm in the same boat, always bashed LG ever since I recommended the original LG Optimus (A budget phone when it came out) to two friends and never heard the end of it.. apps were crashing without reason, the whole phone would lag up randomly and it was just chaos, I ended up installing CM7 on them both and it stopped some but not all problems.
I didn't even pay attention to the LG market up until recently, I thought well if it's LG then it will have a childish UI and be built for idiots. Wow was I wrong with this one. I haven't been this impressed with the design of a phone since I got my iPhone 4 on launch day. The iPhone 4, if anyone remembers is the only iPhone that I actually appreciate because it was completely different and built to look good while remain more powerful than the competition at the time.
I am going to buy the Nexus 4 as soon as I can and hope that it's just as good as the hype makes it out to be, I've already found a buyer for my S3 i9300 (not LTE version) for a cool $400 which gives me enough money to get the 16GB for $399 here in Australia and only spend $20 on shipping. But if it's anything like the original Optimus, this phone will be finding a place in a drawer and I'll go back to Samsung, Exynos sources/documentation or not.
TL;DR This phone better be good or else my newly regained faith in LG will diminish as quickly as it came.

I'm still using my LG Optimus. It's been the most reliable phone I've had. I've thrown this thing, quite literally, across rooms before, and it's 2 years old and I've yet to put a single scratch on it. Development has been amazing, I'm currently running a completely stable CM9 on it, and there is MIUI, AOKP, CM10, CM7, CNA, you name it, that are all slightly less stable. It might not be the best phone in the world, but it's good. My phone before this was a non-android LG phone, and it was pretty solid too. Software sucked (it was a feature phone. All software sucked for them lol) but once again, the build quality was solid. So far, I've only had good experience with LG Phones, and I'm guessing this Nexus will be a fine addition.

Thanks for your opinion on a phone you only saw pictures of. So comforting coming from a guy that admits to being biased easily.
Oh and BTW... just to help you with electronics... LG produces ****ty TVs...
does this phone support micro sd card?
No but I hear people are fine with that since it has 128gb internal memory, LTE and a reinforced aluminum back and dual removable battery
even i hate lg but the nexus 4 is amazing!! i hated lg for its late updates , ugly firmware...
This hardly needs a thread of its own mate, come on.

Omg why Optimus 4x is so Dumb Mobile in forums. It has all Awesome specs Equal to One X and S3 Of course S3 Is Awesome :fingers-crossed:
What I wanna know.
Why is Optimus 4x not listed in Top Mobiles It has good quadrant standards Better than One X and equal to S3, But why this Optimus Big man Suck.
All I know No open Boot loader (**** Lg Sucks in this Support) But I have 2x Which became popular even before it is released:highfive: I suppose><.
And reason I like Lg Awesome Quality and Service For Low Price.
And reason I hate Lg Worse Software support (Reason: Lg Did not comment on when 4X will have Jellybean And if this is case We will never get Lime Pie), I swear I completely bought this mobile hoping Cynogenmod Will highlight this Big Boss, But I am sad when the News came, P880 may or may not have Unlocked boot loader(http://cafe.naver.com/androidhacker/487(Translate IT)), Guys I wanna make this Mobile competitive to S3 Common Devs.
So don't complain and search for good devs experienced in Tegra.. the bounty and cash for the phone are waitin.

Even with locked bootloader and the sh*tty camera, I wouldn't change the O4X for any Shaysung or iFone
Not that I'm LG addicted, its in this case, its a question of design. O4X is one of the few phones in the market with solid, simple and atractive design.
Not forgetting that is a great device with a good performance.

I couldn't agree more. I had been out-of-contract on my last phone (HTC Desire S) for 6 months but there was nothing out there I wanted enough to take a new contract. The 880 changed all that - it has everything on my wish-list - removable battery, SD-Card, and it looks good. I don't want a phone to look like a pebble or a bar of soap. I want it to look like it does. Even if we never get an unlocked bootloader, I can handle this phone for the next 18 months or so on Stock.

I think LG designs well and they have good specd phones. Ibelieve many people like their phones, we are just skeptical because of their non-chalance with updates. I played with this phone last week and I love it but I don't think I will buy it just because of the lack of update issue.
P880 the best phone i have used yet, infact all the LG phones ive used. User experience with Samsung phones are just incomparable to LG, putting aside their designs.
Btw LG started making electronics way before Samsung did.

this is my first LG phone, and so far it is very likable. A few years back I wanted to buy KM900 and I bought iPhone 3G. I went from Nokia N97 to wifes iPhone 3G, for which she said that she does not want to use it. What a blessing that was going from Nokia to iPhone. The only good thing about N97 was its battery time, camera and speaker. I did not regret from going from Nokia to Apple it since it is working until today.Last year when I first wanted to upgrade because of the camera to something with flash and more than 2MP I wanted Optimus 2X, I had it for a review, but did not like its back and slow camera.Somehow I could not get used to Android either. Starting this year I really liked Optimus Black, but they sold all of them, so when I was in Barcelona on February, I saw Optimus 4X. But the iphone 5 was suppose to be launched soon.Nothing happened with Apple, so during waiting I was checking out S3, 4S.After iPhone came out I did not want to get in the line, and also somehow, the price issue and availability
of the iPhone 5 made me think twice. I own my old iPhone 3G, but after years of using it it was time to change. Waiting for iPhone and than paying for it 729€ was not an option, I needed a new phone, so I decided to buy Optimus 4X. Camera could be faster doing the autofocus thing or shutter, but I think that can be solved with an upgrade. If someone knows something, some fix, please send me a pm. Panorama could be made with 8MB not just in VGA mode, could be solved with firmware also. So far I like it for the same reasons most of you guys-girls do.
I choose this over a S3 due to the shape, I like a brick phone, I dont want a "pebble" , had a LG phone before and hated it, but I gave this a go, I love the phone, I do find my S2 screen was a bit more sensitive to touch then this and a few software niggles, but hardware its good and has good scope if we can unlock its full potential!
Anyway,
I will not say Samsung sucks or is best because samsung s3 too have update issues, Orizon s3 do not have unlocked bootloader, And to say frankly i myself hate similar shapes of s3, And i think u guys should watch this video on xda TV.
Samsun hate developers using there devices, They don't know why. But actually samsung became so famous only because developers.

Camera is good with official ROM, not so good with CM based ROMS.
Rather see if you can get Nexus 4. It's in your price range (actually depends on where you are, availability and price differs from country to country) and much better than all your options your considering.
http://www.google.co.za/nexus/4/
Most of those phones you are considering have been on the market a while and the older the device the smaller the community and slower the development gets as people get newer phones. If I had to choose one of them I'd choose the One S, no questions asked. Much faster than the competition, has official JB and is still fairly new.
F*ck Samsung .
Buy Acer cloudmobile s500.
Low-price and high performance... just perfect .
HTC One S no doubt
best dual core, i mean..... cortex a15...maaannn.....that was fast........

Hey there! 1st, thanks for reply:cyclops:
Unfornatuely the Nexus 4 costs €600 here thats far above my budget, also I am looking for smaller sized phones.
I just came across the Desire X. It fits all my requirements only thing is that currently almost no development
Thats why I asked u guys u have experience and optimus black was my 1st choice. But how bout the camera, is it good? and speed? I also see theres alot of development on the Optimus black, the white one also looks sexy:good:

Why should I buy an unkown brand in the smartphone community? And I thoguht Sasmung is known for his good wuality cameras / phones
It has been a very good phone for me you know. It has been with me for about one and a half years and it has come over a car crash, fallen into a pool, dropped a lot of times and in one of those it fell from a 1st floor directly to the ground. I had to change the gorilla glass screen which was about 30 us dollars. It has been an adventure and it continues. Camera is not the best but as any other bad mobile camera, it takes very good full light photos. There is still a hell of a development going on. It is just as fast as 80% of optimus 2x stock if you are running zeus rom with cpu at 1350Mhz. Screen has enough brightness, everything is big and legible and we are having official stock ICS modded in some days, actually now. What else can i say? I am not marketing this phone but it is a good buy. If you are looking for a fond working phone this might be your choice, believe me. If you are looking for a fast like hell phone just dont look for LG OB. Hope Ive helped.
PS: getting a GS2 wont hurt...

Sorry to hear that. It went for alot cheaper in some countries.
Desire X is a good choice HW wise. Not as good as the One S, but cheaper and doesn't have as big a screen. (The One S's graphics Chipset will run circles around all the other phones even the SGS2).
If you want a good community, look at previous flagship phones or really good for it's price phones of well known brands (Unknown brands tend to have much smaller communities).
This phone actually has a large Chinese community that doesn't interact with this forum much. I think I'm missing our sometimes since Google Translate can only do so much.
If you can afford it I would go for the One S.
Your Xperia Pro is on par with most of the other phones and I wouldn't pay money to get another similar phone. I don't think a upgrade is necessary actually.
I told ya.. best performance at that price :good: .
It`s released in September 2012, I guess that`s why there`s no developing topic in this community.
I guess they`ll add it to XDA soon, cause it`s a cool phone .
And it`s f*cking better than S2 .

Awesome phone, but doesn't have XDA page and probably very little community development atm. A little bit better than One S.

High-end.If you don't mind waiting you could see if the Acer's development picks up before making your final choice.
When buying a phone second hand make sure it hasn't been tinkered and OC'ed and with HTC make sure it's still S-ON that way you know it hasn't been tinkered with.

Yes. I'm not sorry about it, but it's getting old. Quite a few great devs moved on already. Theres still plenty of skill and commitment here though and we might be getting official CM10.1 soon (G+ pictures from official dev has already been posted, but no nightlies appeared yet).
Lol....
No guys, its not the Htc one S.
I went back to Xperia P, again.Yes, first time I got it on summer but traded it for Xperia Pro. Now 4 months without smartphone and of research.. I REALLY regret I was so stupid! [at that time there wasnt any development]
I mean 8mp camera, dual core and handsome: the perfect phone!
Only thing is battery, isnt it replaceble with a 1750 li-on??
If you want long lasting battery, go witg Motorola Razr MAXX lol dunno if its in your price range though. But yeah One S looks superb. Hmm..

Hello Guys i want a new high end budget device. And i want to ask you guys if it is worth it to buy this device in 2013?
Is the battery life oke? Can this phone hold this phone a whole day on light usage? i don't have much money left and my old HTC desire s broke yesterday. So do you recommend this phone guys

Yes, if the price is right. I brought this phone about 5 months ago when it was about $100 (nzd) less than the s3. If you could get an s3 for the same price, id probably go for the s3, yet id have this device over the htc one x even if they were the same price.
Battery is acceptable, people complain about it alot but if it was 20% better people would still complain about it. If you find the right rom (or) stock it can run around 4 hrs screen on time. Which again is acceptable. Development has got suprizingly strong on this device if that is an influential factor for you (it is for me)
Conclusion: If the price is right
It's still one of the cheapest quad-core devices around. Personally I bought a second one because of that, for you can't get higher performance for the same price atm. Nexus 4 still costs 100€ more. But if you're not in a hurry you might as well save some money and wait for the next Nexus device (if you like phone with screen size >5").

In that case buy it, you wont regret it. Its a great phone. We have lots of customs roms etc, but i find the stock one fantastic, which is rare in the android world.

I recognise you from the Desire S forum
I haven't regretted once that I got this phone (it's on contract, but is costing me £10.50 less per month than the other quad-core phones would have done.
Upgrade to JB - easy
Root - easy
Unlock bootloader - easy if you read
Install recovery - easy
Install custom ROM - easy
I've still got my old DS running Reaper v4 as I use that for lending out to people, but the 4X looks good, feels good and runs just fine.

haha nice! I am going to get mine optimus 4x next week. A good friend of my lend me his old samsung galaxy s for this weekend. i've just looked in every website and compared all the cheapest high/mid end phones. 4x was my best solution for now.
Definitely get it. I love my 4X and would recommend it to anyone, so long as you don't need OTG. I found out the hard way that my phone doesn't support it, but it's no deal breaker for me. I installed a custom ROM, and it's actually quite easy to do.

It's totally worth the money, however when my upgrade was due i could choose between this and the Samsung Galaxy S3, but the S3 was an 18month Contract and the 4x HD only 12months, so i can refresh my device after a year, and at £20 a month, 3000minutes, unlim texts and unlim data, this phone is definitely cost effecive, It hasn't depreciated at all, i got this phone about 2weeks ago and i love it so far, stock Rom is great, however multiRom allows me to have both Stock and AOSP! I'd choose this over the HTC One X, and the S3, i think my next device will be the Ubuntu Edge if it's applicable!
My device History: HTC Hero>Samsung Galaxy Mini>HTC Desire C, Samsung Galaxy W> Now i have Desire C, SGW, and 4x HD Tab: Nexus7
I would have bought the nexus 4 or optimus g instead...
It's definitely worth buying. I got mine 2 months ago and am very satisfied. I was first a bit annoyed about the battery and heating, but with a custom rom it's a way better. Development is now going with lightspeed, it's probably the cheapest quad-core phone at the moment and it gives a great performance thanks to Tegra 3.

Unless you like Gameloft. They have fixed most of their games but they gave up on the rest. Don't buy spiderman unless you're a fan of the matrix, super slow mo gameplay

Compare the price between 4x HD and Nexus 4. If Nexus 4 doesn't cost more than 20% than 4x HD. I prefer to have Nexus 4 instead.
I am owning 4X HD and my sister has Nexus 4.
Nexus 4 has a better build on everything. It has much better hand feeling, better CPU, it has 2G of RAM, less heat, seems better battery life + you will always get the latest Android version from google. The only thing I don't like is it's onscreen button that actually make your viewable screen size smaller on most of the apps.
To be honest, 4x HD is not outdated yet, but 2G of RAM + Snapdragon s4 CPU really beats 4x HD up a lot. If it is possible, try it with your own hand, open up some web pages with chrome, you will know the differences.
Please dun get it wrong. I still love my 4x HD, it is still the best price/performance phone now. Just if your money is not that tight get a Nexus 4 will be better.
Thanks
Mike
