Captivate random shuts down

I was wondering if anyone else's Captivate has shut down automatically? It happened 3 times yesterday the screen goes into standby mode but if you try waking it up you had to pull the battery.
Last night I let it completely drain then completely charged it. When I picked it up it read 99% battery immediately. I went to get ready for work and check my email and it was shut off. I had to restart it again. Since then it seems as if the battery is lasting longer.

Okay so i had this problem but it only arises for me when i do a few things. i have spent hours scratching my head about what it could be and through process of elimination i found on my phone it was one of two things.
1.) make sure that if you are using the auto kill feature in ATK that its not set to anything above safe
2.) if your using setcpu with profiles selected and have a very low profile for when the screen is off then try ramping that profile up a little bit to give the phone a chance to run background processes a little easier and actually wake up when you want it to!

I havent been using ATK at all. Also does SetCPU really work with the hummingbird processor? When it boots it always kicks down to 19.2 which is obviously too low. I removed it just in case. I also set it back to the default settings. I would really enjoy SetCPU to save battery if it works of course. I thought it only works on HTC devices and Motorola devices?

i had setCPU on my phone yesterday and it was freezing like you describe when trying to bring it out of standby. I pulled the battery twice before i said F-it and took the program off. If you were using setCPU i'd say that was your problem.

I deleted SetCPU and I thought it might be Screebl so I disabled it. Sure as hell it just went to a black screen and shut off again. God this is beyond annoying. I dont want to have to bring back this great phone but I need the phone to work.

We've also got to think, Samsung just released this phone. The more we do to it from the market, the more things are gonna happen.
Most devs haven't had the time to really test and relay bugs from this phone that would cause other errors.

Yes but if I am correct none of these issues will be fixed until they decide to release FroYo?
EDIT: I just tried removing the MicroSD to see if that resolved the issue. Shocker...it didnt...

This has happened to me once. Came out of a meeting, pulled it out of my pocket, and couldn't get it to wake from sleep. I have not installed SetCPU, so it's not that. Not sure what the root cause was.

What apps do you have installed would probably be the more relevant question. And what have you changed?

Mine is doing the same **** and it is driving me NUTZ!!! I thought SetCPU first so I uninstalled and rebooted. Phone is still doing it. Please someone figure this out quickly. I am going through my apps one by one and uninstalling them to try to pinpoint the problem. Subscribing to the thread.

Interesting.... I haven't heard this happen to me yet so its probably an application or process your guys all have in common.

I have a feeling it is setcpu. I just did a reboot after installing and now it is not happening. Cross my fingers!

Like a lot of you, I started uninstalling my apps one by one when this happened. It stopped restarting after I finally uninstalled Launcher Pro. After that, the phone stayed on the whole night last night. It's weird because it worked with Launcher Pro for a good 2 days.

I'm also experiencing this issue, ad i've only downloaded a few apps.
Has anyone exchanged their phone over this yet?

I reflashed to stock firmware and I'm still having an issue. I noticed that if you take the battery cover off the battery and push on it then it seems like it has a little give to it. Can anyone who is not having this problem confirm? Also, anyone who has this issue, please see if your battery has a little give to it.
It should be on the side WITHOUT the contacts. Also, if this doesn't work I'm bringing the phone back. I already had a problem with the first one and since this is my 2nd exchange AT&T wont exchange it anymore. They told me I need to go through the warranty. They are out of their minds the phone isn't even a week old. Never had these problems with HTC...
EDIT: I uninstalled ADW Launcher as a test to see if thats it.
EDIT 2: Make sure the battery door is covered tightly. I pushed mine all the way down until it clicks. Hold it down and then close the slider. I think this actually might fix the issue.

Anyone figure out why this keeps on happening? I've reflashed the stock as well and it still occurs randomly.

Strange this dosnt happen to me, and i installed setcpu(performance governor 1ghz/800mhz) but uninstalled it after seeing that it ****'s up gles 2 rendering...

I found this thread via Google search, and I just wanted to add that my phone started doing this last night, however, I have not added anything to my phone, nor is it modded in any way. It's completely stock. The only thing I have done thus far was remove all of the extra home pages and rearrange some app icons, and that was on Thursday and Friday. It does it both when it goes to sleep normally or if I hit the sleep/power button.

I narrowed mine down to SetCPU being underclocked while asleep. Bumped up the minimum clock and took off the profile I had set, phone hasn't rebooted in 4 days.

[Q] random reboot/mms bug?

just wondering if anyone else are having issues of their phone randomly rebooting? does anyone know of a fix?
also, sending photos as an attachment does not work. in order to send a photo to anyone on your contact list.
found a work around by going through gallery and sending it directly from there.
if anyone know of a fix for either issues. the help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had several random reboots. Oddly enough, they usually occurred overnight when I wasn't using the phone. I would hear the vibration on my windowsill and saw it was rebooting. I did a factory reset yesterday and while in the midst of setting everything up on my phone, it rebooted again. I thought that maybe there was too much going on and it overloaded. But last night when I was out and not using my phone, it rebooted again. I'm gonna have to go to Verizon to swap the phone.

It keeps happening on mine, but almost always in the car while attached with BT. I'm wondering if BT has something to do with it, in my case.

I am also experiencing the issue specifically at night. I have yet to actually have it interrupt me in anything but its still a concern. Just curious about whether for those of you who are experiencing it are using the Assist app or Android Assistant?

I only use the Assist app for when I'm in the car. It's not setup for night time. I exchanged my phone at Verizon today and so far so good. One of the employees tried telling me that the reboots could have been because I had Better Battery Stats installed on my phone and the battery saver apps can conflict with the OS. I blew his mind when I told him that BBS wasn't a battery saver app and simply lets people know about specific wakelocks. Seemed like no one there had any idea this phone even existed.
For the reboots, I guess tonight will be the big test.

It happened again to me this morning as soon as I got in the car and it connected to Bluetooth. Once it reboots, it's solid.

Please report back. I have gone 24 hours without a reboot with no changes to the device which is a first. If it doesn't have a Samsung or Apple logo no one seems to care anymore.

I can't get Assist to work at all. I typically listen to podcasts in the car and when texts come in I get a notification sound but I've never had one read to me. I disabled Assist to see if this was the cause of my Bluetooth reboots, and it's not.
With Assist disabled entirely, each time my phone pairs with Bluetooth it connects but the moment I start to play something it reboots. It's very consistent.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I haven't had any reboots with the new phone. I exchanged my old one for this one on Monday and so far everything's been good.

I have now had 3-4 random reboots that I have seen. I have also witnessed a complete lock up of the phone. I will be heading into Verizon today to exchange my phone.
Just wanted OP to know more people are having issues.

[Q] My Nexus 6 is almost always awake. What to do?

My Nexus 6 is compeletely stock and untouched software. I have attached screenshots from Nexus 6 (5.0.1) and Note 3 (5.0) to show the point I'm talking about.
When I'm sleeping as you can see on the Note 3 it has very few awakes. But Nexus 6 on the other hand is almost always awake. It drains about 20-25% battery overnight.
I have performed factory reset 3 times and now it has almost no additional apps installed but still the same. (don't judge by the facebook on the screenshot it's just installed and the problem is the same with or without it) I'm not rooted so i can't use the wakelock detector. I've installed GSam and it shows Android OS and Android system as biggest drainers for the current situation (16%, 6%) which i suspect nothing extraordinary.
I have play services 6.7.76 on both devices if it has anything to do with it. I tried something like turning the ambient display off and some other settings to see if theyre waking it but no luck yet. Do you think it is a software thing and Google will eventually fix it and I should wait or what should i do?
I really want to keep this phone but the battery is a big concern for me right now. every morning seeing the battery down without touching the phone is a big problem. Any help and information on the subject is appreciated.
Edit: I have added a screenshot from safe mode. I restarted in safe mode to see if any 3rd party is the cause of the problem. But the problem persists. And I have noticed that when the wifi is compeletely off (Keep awake, Always scanning etc.) the problem is solved. But whenever i turn on the wifi, even when it is not connected to any network, it starts draining battery and keeping phone awake like on the graphics. Can anyone give me a hint if this can be a hardware related issue with the wifi receiver? Or it looks like a software issue and can be solved with the 5.1 update? I have 3 days to return the phone if its a hardware thing. Thanks

Do you know if it is a common issue and 5.1 fixes it? I've checked the updates but nothing showed up so far. I'm close to 14 day window for my T-Mobile purchase so i need info on 5.1 about this issue and i didn't see anything related :/

You might have the sensor ind bug that was in 5.01 that kept the phone from sleeping properly. From my short experience with 5.1, it's gone. Hard to tell about your situation without screenshots from better battery stats and the app list.

Thank you for the info. Root is not an option on the Nexus 6 cause my sister will be using it and she's not a techie. Without root I can't properly see what keeps it awake :/ As i said, besides the screen, biggest consumers are the Android OS and Android system in Battery settings list. But they're similiar on the Note 3 too so i dont think i can get somewhere with them.
I guess i will have to wait for 5.1 and hope it is fixed as you've said. Do you know what sensor is causing the sensor ind error? Does it have anything with the Ambient display?

Do you use Microsoft Exchange services?
I mean, did you setup other e-mail accounts. Like- Outlook, hotmail .etc??
Because last time I found, that service kept my phone to always wake up..

Oh yeah it has a hotmail account set up besides gmail. I will remove the hotmail account and restart the phone at night and observe in the morning again. Thanks for the suggestion!
If it is the problem, how did you overcome the issue? Are you using browser for your exchange mail account? If so, it will be a pain not getting mails to the app :/

7.1.1 Crazy Mega Bluetooth "Drain"

I say "drain" because the phone is obviously not using as much battery as Android is saying it does. I'd need to tow around a car battery for this phone.
Anyway, ever since the update to 7.1.1, my Bluetooth battery reading says it uses so much battery, that the other apps dont even show up. I'm rooted but otherwise no mods. I've tried stock, Franco, and Elemental X kernels. I've even tried removing my Bluetooth headphones and car connection. No luck. I can turn bluetooth off, but that defeats the purpose of it when I want to use it.
The only thing I haven't tried is formatting the phone. Before I did that, I figured I'd ask and see if anyone has seen this or had ideas? Searching around for excessive bluetooth drain hasn't helped, and my battery life is just a little bit worse but it could be coincidence?
Ideas?

Well just a follow up, I tried resetting the phone...no luck. New and fresh now, still reading a huge battery drain.

FWIW, I'm seeing the same thing on the January 7.1.1 build and now the February one too. 32% today. A couple days ago it was between 40 and 45%.

It's been like this since 7.1.1 came out. I thought it was something to do with my Pebble but I guess not.

I went ahead and restored my original 7.1.1 backup. I tried flashing the 7.0 radio and no luck there either. My next change will be going back to 7.0. I'm assuming that will likely fix the problem

I see this as well on the latest Pure Nexus. I don't think I saw it on NitrogenOS since it was using older blobs.
EDIT: It might actually be caused the the new Instant Tether feature. Saw it mentioned on G+ and since turning Instant Tether off, I no longer have the battery drain or bluetooth having the highest percentage.

Same here on the 26Q version of 7.1.1. All my battery stats shows is bluetooth. Yesterday the "computed power use" value I swear was over 100K. I rebooted earlier today and it seems to be showing other items in that list now, but not what should be shown there. I have used apps and they arent showing up there.

Yep. This entire day that I've not had Instant Tethering, I've not had massive battery drain and bluetooth hasn't made the list of battery offenders.

Try clearing cache, then open bluetooth share apk and clear data. (it's a temp solution)

I turned my instant tethering off and everything is back to normal as far as what's showing in the battery stats. I might turn it back on to double check but I'm confident instant tethering was causing it for me.

Just an update but I've stayed on 7.1.1 and didn't give myself time to downgrade to 7.0. I began having problems with Google Now not populating and constantly being blank as well as the incorrect battery usage.
I went ahead, turned off instant tethering, cleared both the cache and data in the Google App, and installed the newest Google beta 6.13.21.21. Now my Google Now has been working great for 3 days but my battery usage reading are back to normal as well. It could be a problem with the google app? Or it could be an issue with the instant tethering as mentioned because that is part of the google app?

What can I do if instant tethering is nowhere to be found. Pure Nexus 711 dynamic Gapps full edition

I have this problem. It started on 7.1.1. When Bluetooth is on, but not connected to a device its constantly scanning. Its detecting hundreds or even maybe thousands of devices throughout my work day. I work and travel around Manhattan 5 days a week. Once I get home, I have a Bluetooth system I stay connected to all the time and the drain is totally absent. I've observed the same pattern for the past week. Is there any way to stop it from scanning? I don't want to constantly turn Bluetooth off and on when I need to use it. I would love to decide when it scans for Bluetooth.

Try what I did. Clear your cache and data from the Google app. Then find the 6.13.21.21 beta Google App apk online and install it. I rebooted from there and things have been great since Tuesday

Turn of Bluetooth Scanning in three dots menu under location. That solved several Bluetooth issues for me

My Google app is functional 100% I've had problems like you experienced with the Google app in the past but now it's loaded up just fine. I turned instant tethering off and I'm going to wipe every cache I can think of so Well see what happens.

Turned that off yesterday and today I still experienced 86% Bluetooth in the battery and nothing else over 10 hours.
Edit I just checked out the battery stats and it says 120% so there's definitely something wrong with Bluetooth here. I'm stock rooted from the tool kit. I'm going to wipe and flash something custom, hopefully it's better.

Notifications Issue

Is anyone having issues with their notifications not coming through, or coming in super late, or having the same notifications coming up over and over? I'm expecting all three problems, it seems to be happening with every app for me except for calls and text. I factory reset the phone but that didn't fix the issue. If I restart the phone, then all my notifications that haven't physically gone into the app to check start pouring in. No idea what could be causing the issue and it's really starting to piss me off. I have already sent my phone in for repair cause my LTE data stopped working for no reason. I don't think both issues are related as I do have LTE data after they replaced some part.
Would appreciate if anyone has any ideas.

I had notification delays with gmail app, fixed it by turning off battery optimization for this specific app.

Some people may have battery saver on and this may cause late notifications. Also check in settings "auto sync", under accounts. I did have some late notifications issue with Gmail app and do know battery optimization usually is the cause, but it went away in couple of days after I bought the phone.

How'd this work out for you? This phone is horrible for notifications for me. It constantly doesn't send them until I actually pick up my phone, then suddenly I'll get 5-10 notifications at once. I've turned off EVERY bit of power saving that I can find. I only run in high performance mode 24/7 with all adaptive battery, power optimization, auto app sleep, etc turned completely off. I've also tried disabling all power saving and sleep in the specific app pages as well. I need to be more observant, but I think this is mostly with push notifications (ex, my 2FA app for work) rather than apps with timers to check for updates occasionally. I also have an issue with my wifi disconnecting while the screen is off sometimes which is highly annoying since my home presence detection is based on my phone being on the wifi, though last time it started doing that a reboot fixed it.
Unfortunately, a search proves that this is a widespread issue. At this point I've pretty much given up on this phone and am looking to replace it as soon as I find a suitable alternative. I'm just curious if it's a Samsung issue or a Pie issue that will occur on other phones as well.

Seems to be a general issue with android. Mine have gotten better recently. In addition to turning off battery optimization for any apps I want notifications for, i have done the following:
1. Wiped cache (under settings/app/storage), then rebooted into recovery mode and wiped the cache partition.
2. Gone into the setting and made sure apps I want notifications for are allowed to run in the background (settings/apps/select app for notifications/battery).
3. Allowed to run in background when on mobile networks (settings/apps/select app/mobile data/Allow Background Data Usage.
4. Gone into messages/settings/more settings/push message/changed toggle from "Prompt" to "Always".

1. Wiped cache (under settings/app/storage), then rebooted into recovery mode and wiped the cache partition.
2. Gone into the setting and made sure apps I want notifications for are allowed to run in the background (settings/apps/select app for notifications/battery).
3. Allowed to run in background when on mobile networks (settings/apps/select app/mobile data/Allow Background Data Usage.
4. Gone into messages/settings/more settings/push message/changed toggle from "Prompt" to "Always".

Thanks, I'll give some of those a try. I also got a VZW update with the May security patch among other things right after I posted that, so we'll see if that helps at all also.

It's gotten better for me. I enabled high performance mode but I had to keep going in and checking it a couple days after still even though it was enabled. Been a couple weeks now and the notifications I was missing before all seems to be coming in fine now. Time will tell though I guess lol
Are you also having trouble with apps updating? That was another problem I was having where I'd see apps needing to update, I'd start "update all" one app would download and then get stuck at 99% and it would just stay like that for about 40mins and prevent the other apps from updating. Then finally when it would finish the next one would do the same. It would literally take hours upon hours for 12 apps to update when it should only take a couple mins. That issue seems to be fixed for me now too.
