Is anyone having issues with setting their own mp3 files as ringtone. It is checked in the setting but when receiving a call or notification it doesn't play the ringtone or notification tone I selected.

Same here. No matter which folder I copy the *.mp3 ringtone into, it still will not play when calls are recieved?? Strange. My N6 is rooted stock, purchased directly from Motorola.

okay this maybe a dumb question but its sure is annoying. Whenever i get an email the phone led light start to blink and the Email Notification Sound play like it should, but after 10 minutes it plays again and again. Like if i don't touch the phone it will ding every 10 minutes.
Its not an event reminder or alarm as email sounds are very different then anything else and only happens when i don't touch my phone. Like i got an email late last night and it kept dinging all night long until i unlocked the phone and cleared the notification.
Its super annoying, It just play the email notification sound and then let the led blink for 10 minutes but not play notification sound sound every 10 minutes.
Does anyone know how to stop this?

Open you HTC mail client (app drawer and select Mail), hit the menu button > More > Settings (then select your email account) > Notification settings
Now you can uncheck Notification sound
Will it still ding when i first receive the email, I want the sound to play the first time but not every 10 minutes.

Unfortunately, this will take out the sound altogether.
yeah thats what i thought, you guys don't find this weird about the phone?
not sure about the native HTC email program.. but here's how to achieved what you're after using GMAIL appz
/ open up Gmail
/ menu button
/ More-->>Settings-->> Account Settings-->> [email protected]
/ Scroll down to "Labels to notify"
/ select "inbox" then a pop up notification settings box will appear
/ There is an option at the bottom for "notify once"
That will do it
when a new email arrived... you'll get a notification... you get to choose to have SOUNDS/VIBRATE...etc
and subsequence mail arrival won't have any more sounds
Just curious what ROM you're running that's giving you this issue?
Sent from my HTC Vivid 4G using xda premium
I sent an e-mail to my G-Mail account. When it came it, I left it alone to see what would happen. As described in another post, the alert sound occurred only one time. The LED flashed for a while but eventually stopped. I confirmed that the G-Mails allowed a once only notification.
I have had situations occur, but not always, where I will get alerts from both G-Mail and the native HTC e-mail app. However, it did not occur this time. So, I can't say for now what the native e-mail account will do.
I'm running stock ROM and have not had consistent email notifications. I have it set to sound every time I receive an email. But I may hear it only once for several emails and then once for every email received. I may also get a sound for emails that I don't seem to have received.
Just one of those things.
I'm running stock rom and using the native htc email app
Not to mention, it gets frustrating after habitually only reading the SMS from the lockscreen notification.
Any way to change the email notification sound?

Changing it is specific to the application you are using. Check the settings for the application in question. I'm using the Gmail app. The settings for each account has an area for changing the sound and frequency.
Was this issue solved?
I have the same problem with my HTC One S...

For a regular (non-gmail) account (which uses the stock Mail app), I could not find where to set it's specific notification sound... BUT, everything else has its own notification sound setting (GMail, WhatsApp, Text Messaging), so I just go into phone Settings, Sound, and pick a notification sound there (which will play when I get an email in my regular mail). All the other apps have their own sounds assigned, so I guess technically, my Mail has its own sound.
It is under personalize click the sound tab email is there

SNAP. That is so simple. I suck. LOL
Also under the mail app you need to go under settings notification and check the box that says play sounds too

Hi. Long time iPhone user but new to Android as of two weeks ago. Bought the HTC One (AT&T) and am loving it so far.
However, I have been having issues concerning notifications through a couple apps. Specifically the MLB At Bat app and the CNN app. Let me start by saying that I have received notifications without issue when it comes to email, texts, and Facebook.
Now, with At Bat, I have notifications set up in the settings for the app (specifically for my favorite baseball team), and I technically do get notifications. What I mean by that is, if I happen to turn on my phone, I will see that a notification previously came in. However, I do not receive any audio or vibration feedback to accompany the notification. So, the phone doesn't actually alert me. The same case is true with the CNN app. In the settings for the app, I have set up to receive notifications for breaking news. Again, I technically get the notifications sent to my phone, so they will be there when I happen to check the phone for whatever reason. But when the notification is sent, I am not alerted in any way (no tone or vibration).
As I said before, I get notifications (accompanied with audio tone and vibration) without issue when it comes to emails, texts, and Facebook. I have scowered the system settings and the settings on the individual apps but everything appears to be in order. Thanks in advance for any help or direction you fine folks can provide.
edit: Also, I have uninstalled and reinstalled both apps, but nothing has changed.

PS. sorry i just had to write that......
hey, I have a quick question for you guys. I have two accounts set up on my gmail. For notifications I put the hangouts message sound for both accounts. Its really weird but after a day or two I noticed not hearing any sound when I get an email. I go into settings and under sound it gives me a random number. for example under sound it would say "3650". I switch them both back to the hangouts message sound. Then after another day or two it goes back to silent and gives another random number under sound. does anyone know whats wrong? has anyone ever had this happened?
must be something wrong with the hangouts app. have you tried assigning a different sound? one that was included with the device?
why would the hangouts app have anything to do with it? im just using the sound. I have not tried any other sound though.

its possible the hangouts sound is being sent to the phone from the play store so it could be getting changed because of the hangouts app being in control of the sound you are selecting. he was just saying that might be an option so you might try changing it to another sound to see if it continues. if it doesn't then something must be happening with hangouts. it might make sense that google changes the hangouts sound on its end and then "ports" it to the phone so they could change the hangouts sound whenever it wants.
I am coming from the Note 3 and love the feature to assign a specific notification tone to someone in my address book. I checked my wife's LG G2 and it has the same feature, but my I am unable to find that in my M8. Is it possible to do this or do I need another application?

I use a 3rd party messaging app for individual sms notifications. Currently it's Chomp SMS.
You can apply a ringtone, but not a notification tone. U can use GoSMS, etc., to apply individual ringtones.

Not without a 3rd party app unfortunately.......I wish it did like the Samsung phones. I had the Galaxy S3 for a long time and I miss that feature
OK...couple of issues at play here, I think.
First, I'm on a stock, non-rooted M8 - received the latest OTA update, but the issue(s) I have, I have been having since I started using the phone.
I have Google Voice installed and use it for my voicemail app - I did this on my S3 that I had (rooted, CM10 - I think it was CM10) and it worked great. I'd miss a call, get a voicemail, get a notification...I'd click the notification and it played the voicemail within the dialer app.
On my M8, I miss a call and get a notification for a VM...I click the VM notification and sometimes it does nothing, other times it takes me to my call history/log. No way to play the voicemail. I have to manually clear the notification, and then open the Google Voice app and listen to the voicemail.
FIRST - Is there a way to click the notification and have the voicemail play back natively?
SECOND - Assuming I can't do what I want I have an even bigger issue...Even after I listen to the VM in Google Voice I get notifications that I have new voicemails...They are "new" in that I never listened to them so GV views them as "new" but they're months (years?) old. Typical scenario...I miss a call, get a VM, open up GV and listen to the VM (maybe delete it, maybe not), and go about my business. No VM notifications...until I get a new text message...then my phone goes crazy and dings/beeps something like a dozen times and my VM notification is back. GV is alerting me to "new" VMs that I've long since dismissed the notification for...anything I can do about that?
Thanks!

Unfortunately, that doesn't really fix it...I went through and marked all "unread" as "read" and deleted numerous old Vmails...unless I delete ALL old Vmails, this happens. I could do that - but I sure as **** shouldn't have to do that. It's a bug.
It worked just fine on CM10 (and my GS3) - I'd get the notification when there was a new VM, I'd click the notification, and I'd listen to it in the 'stock' dialer/vmail app with CM10. No persistent notifications.
