Is that better or is there a problem
GSMArena have it listed as supporting 900/2100MHz UMTS 3G. That means Optus/Voafone/Virgin in Australia, all UK networks, and any UMTS provider in Hong Kong except NTT DoCoMo.
In my experience, GSMArena usually f*ck up their frequency listings a lot.
It would be a huge departure for Verizon to make their new world phones 900/2100MHz when ALL the other world phones they've released are 850/1900/2100. Plus it would make the majority of their roaming agreements with partners useless.
I think it's pretty safe to say it will be at least 850/1900, perhaps 850/1900/2100. That means if your network uses 900MHz you're out of luck.
EDIT: Old thread, sorry. Have no idea why this one popped up!

you are from hk?? me too.
Droid 4 can be working in hk because it is a cdma/gsm device, BUT verizon has locked down the gsm.
so basically, it wont work
DROID 4 is not a GLOBAL phone. It will only work on Verizon network.
ifixit's teardown has a chip identification:
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Droid-4-Teardown/7759/2
Has a Qualcomm MDM6600 chip:
from wikipedia:
MDM6600™:
Multi-mode modem
HSPA+ with data rates of up to 14.4 Mbit/s
CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO Rev. A/Rev. B support
GPS functionality, including support for Assisted GPS
I'm out of my element here, but that suggests global capability....as to whether it can actually be used, I haven't a clue.
Found some info here http://www.gobi.com/resources#Documentation
Specifically the Gobi3000 product sheet http://www.gobi.com/sites/default/files/Gobi3000r4.pdf
It seems like the chipset can support everything, but CDMA and GSM support are in two separate firmware images. Also even if the chipset has support, there's no guarantee that the requisite antennas and such are connected. But I've already read a few places that Motorola/Verizon plans to enable global roaming with a firmware update in the future, so I'd guess the hardware support is already in place.
The doc doesn't list support for 1700MHz AWS in the frequency list, but it does say "Prepared for UMTS-AWS" which implies that it could be supported with additional tweaks. So probably no US T-Mobile 3G support out of the box, dunno.
Hi,
i'm from italy, anyone know if motorola & verizon release Droid 4 for Europe ( milestone 4 ) with all gsm band? same the droid 1 and 2 released for EU with name milestone 1 and 2.
i read some rumors about a possible declaration of milestone 4 on Mobile World Congress 2012.

I'm not sure, but the Droid 4 does use a GSM Sim, and that would make me think that you could pic up a Sim in country and put it in your phone. I mean if you don't have to unlock your phone first.
I'm interested in this one too!
My carrier uses 900 and 2100mhz for hsdpa...
Apparently, the Droid 4 will have GSM roaming eventually.
http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/12/2...-and-lg-spectrum-will-have-global-gsm-roaming
There are a lot of possible show stoppers.
First, I don't think that this was an official VZW statement.
And, even if they will make GSM/HSPA work, it's unclear if and how SIM unlocking will work.
Let's see how it will work out with the xyboard tablets ...
The problem is D4 has dedicated LTE radio now which requires SIM card. My guess ia the Verizon's SIM is only compatible with their own network and can't do roaming just yet. Issue could not be technical at all. To be safe they decided to lock down GSM/HSPA radio for now. Once they figure out how their SIM cards can roam properly on other providers, they will likely push OTA update to enable the HSPA settings.
Verizon doesn't care if we want to use another sim card. Will likely make everything possible to prevent us from doing so. They however want their clients to pay for roaming badly. I am sure the matter will be resolved as this is a big revenue point for them.

Yeah, LTE uses GSM... there is no CDMA LTE connection which is why all the 4g phones have GSM frequency capability, but Verizon has them on a tight lock. It is possible for them to allow you to use in certain GSM areas but I don't think they would unlock it to be used with any other service.

The challenge isn't the hardware, but rather that the Droid 4 is a Verizon exclusive currently.
Thomas is correct; the radios have more flexibility than Verizon has allowed it. They have announced that sometime this year they will enable global roaming for the phone via their networks, which to me says firmware push.
I am hopeful that Moto will eventually release a GSM-friendly unlocked version, a la the Milestone vs the original Droid.
I'm consistently getting a dBm of 100-115 at my house. On my S3, I used to average around 85-90 dBm.
Tried updating my profile & PRL but it didn't make a difference.
very odd for a motorola device
Yea, I thought so too considering Motorola's rep for having the strongest radios.
My guess would be that the gs3 was using a different LTE frequency because the att version only supported 700mhz and 2100mhz where as the moto x supports 700,850,1700,1900mhz. If you your talking about another variant of gs3 and moto x say T-Mobile or sprint look up the frequency's. that is my guess in signal differences. Hope this helps.

Both my GS3 and Moto x are on Sprint. The GS3 supports 800 & 1900 while the Moto X supports 800, 850 and 1900 on CDMA.
Slightly weaker for me too, not terrible though.
In my lunch room at work I get 1-2 bars and weak connection on my HTC One. My Moto X is 0 - 2 and fights to keep a connection losing connection every couple minutes.
Again, slightly weaker than my HTC, but not terrible.

Hi Everyone,
I am looking to get a G Flex and have seen a good deal on one but the issue is that I am on wind mobile which uses the 1700/2100 aws Band 4, the phone I am looking at is a Rogers LGD950G, which from the specs says it supports Band 4 but only LTE. I have seen that some phones that support LTE Band 4 work on Wind Mobile/T-mobile.
Basically my question is if I get the LGD950G and unlock it will I be able to use it on Wind Mobile?
Since activating the Droid Turbo, I notice I get much better LTE reception compared to my Note 3. In many places I used to get 3G, I now have a few bars of LTE. On the Motorola page for the Droid Turbo, it states the Turbo supports: LTE Cat 4 (Bands 2, 3, 4, 7, 13) and Carrier Aggregation (B4+13). I don't see anything similar on the Motorola page for the Nexus 6. Since the Turbo is specifically designed for Verizon, is it safe to assume you will get better data speeds and reception with the Turbo compared with the Nexus 6?
Another thing I noticed with the Turbo is that with my bluetooth headphones the volume does not go that high...and the quality doesn't seem to be the greatest compared to other phones I've used. What advantage does Bluetooth 4.1 have over Bluetooth 4.0, if any?
Thanks!
If anyone has questions about the Turbo, let me know. I'll do the best I can to answer them.

I had the Moto X 2013, and my Turbo gets a more consistent LTE signal than that. I have LTE almost everywhere now, whereas before I had several locations in the Phoenix area where I would only get 3G. Spotify never stops to buffer even when the setting is on Extreme Quality.
I know the Verizon version has a locked bootloader but Verizon phones do come unlocked. Does anyone know if the 2014 Moto X will work on T-Mobile? I know it has the correct bands but the LTE/HSPA switchoff has issues maybe? I tried searching but couldn't find anything beyond a video saying they could get up to 3G and that was it.
Asking because someone is selling a Verizon Moto X to me for 250 and it seems like a great deal.
I wish I could give you a definitive answer. I had my VZ note 3 running on T mobile with full LTE band 4. I am not sure whether you can add the new VPN without root. Here is the thread for adding the T mobile VPN. Hopefully someone can expand on this

From what I can tell, the CDMA version doesn't have the 1700 band for 4G (HSPA+). Without that, you'll only have 4G (HSPA+) in areas where the 1900 spectrum was refarmed, which is usually major cities. Looks like it definitely has 4G (LTE) on band 4 though.
Short answer: Yes it should work. Also, for 250, you might as well try it and then sell it if it doesn't work out for you.
