I have an app with over 200 looping videos which can be used as a live wallpaper with the Video Live Wallpaper app.
I made most of the videos myself.
Now my question is, would anybody be interested in making some looping videos? I've seen some excellent bootanimations that would look great as a live wallpaper. And it would be nice to share your stuff with a wider audience.
If anybody is interested, let me know. I have my own server for my app and all videos are hosted on the server.
I have attached the free version of my app. (You'll also need Video Live Wallpaper, available free in the Playstore, or any other app that can set a video as live wallpaper).

both me and my friend are getting
YouTube "this video cannot be played" on some videos
What is causing this? is there a fix?
I can supply links to a video that doesn't play
Any ideas
Cheers
That may be due to your region..some YouTube videos are not allowed in some countries due to copywrite laws or censorship. If the same thing is happening on two different phones, likely it is not your phone that is the problem.

mostly my friends choice of pop music is not allowed
This is an option that YouTube gives content uploaders when posting videos. It's a specific option that goes some thing like "Disallow viewing content on mobile devices"
The reason this is done is because ads can't be played on Youtube mobile (whether browser or app) so they don't want to give you access to the video. The fact that it's mostly pop music makes sense, because recording labels and such will want to monetize their content, and mobile users represent a revenue loss.
The only way around it is to view the video through your browser while switched to a desktop user-agent.

I told my friend it probably had to do with 'advertising revenue' and 'control'.
Is there an easy way for her to view these videos? (or should i tell her to get a better taste in music )
Like I said, basically the only way is to watch it through "desktop Youtube".
Since we have Flash support, you can download an alternate browser like Dolphin Browser that lets you switch user agents and view the video from the full site.
There are also hacked browser.apk's out there with stuff like built-in user agent switching, 8 tabs etc.
Hope that helped.
had this problem works now
Does anyone know if a wallpaper is available that allows you to apportion areas of the screen to launch an app, ie an office background, touching the clock opens the clock app, the desk opens your office app, etc? I assume it's possible with live wallpapers that interact with touch?

I don't think you can do this with a wallpaper/live wallpaper, but you can do it by using Desktop Visualizer. (In the Market)
Once you've download the app, you can use the DVRSizeConfigTool (in the Market) and the Image-Crop tool to create a cool looking portioned out screen with different widgets. It's kind of hard to explain, but once you watch the video, you'll see what I'm talking about. The process is pretty confusing, but I was able to do it using a tutorial on YouTube. I hope this is what you were thinking of..
Edit: I don't have enough posts to be able to post links, but if you PM me, I will send you the link to the YouTube video tutorial. You can also search "How To Use DVR Image Crop - Desktop VisualizeR" in YouTube and the video is by 'biipub'.
Look at "Launcher Wall" in the market.
I haven't actually used it, but it can launch apps apparently.
Thanks guys, I think either one of these will suit, just gonna have to pick which one....

Is it possible to make the YouTube widget display videos of a playlist rather than recommended videos and front page crap? Am I the only one that wants something like this?
Please some developer/modder help me out here. Thanks
yes please that would be awesome! I have been thinking that for a while now and such a cool widget would get used if you had a way to sync your subscriptions instead of the crap that is there.
Hi, I'm looking for an app to set any .swf file as a wallpaper on my xperia x8 if it's possible ?? as even w910 and many other old phones could set .swf flashlite files as wallpapers and screensaver ....
and
Is there any voicemail app for android phones ? which will auto record the message of incoming call (voice) so later you can hear it ?
Thanks
Swf files are moving images, right? So it's like a live wallpaper, but from what I've learned, Android isn't programmed to apply a swf as a wallpaper. So you must make a live wallpaper to resemble that swf file.
Android is just programmed in a different way.

and how to convert swf files into live wallpapers ?
Two applications
Games
vedio calling
I don't care about flash games, I have made some custom flash animations of 320x480 of my names and etc.
You can't just convert. You need to build it from scratch in Java.

see attached video sample which I made in aftereffects
I'll be releasing a free and paid version of this as soon as the SDK is finalized. The paid version will feature a higher limit on the amount of photos you can cast, customizable timing between photos, more image transitions, and perhaps control over the slideshow itself.
Cool! I will definitely be picking up a picture app as soon as the SDK allows. And I'm sure I am not the only one looking forward to casting their photos to their TV.
Will you be able to pause, skip, back up, zoom etc?
Also, any plans to allow multiple users to create a shared queue from separate phones ... like the YouTube app allows?
Working on controlling the slideshow now. Then I'll be working on adding photos to the slideshow from the same device. I'll look into a shared queue, that's a good idea. Thanks!
Definitely keep us informed on your progress. I like the ability to flick through pictures on the phone and mirroring it on the TV. Is this a function that your app will have exclusive or is it an ability the stock gallery has as well?
Good news and bad news Scott:
The bad news is that flicking through the photos at the end had no effect on which image was shown, they were just in the same order because I set that album to cast. I apologize for making that unclear in the video. However, in the final version, slideshow control will be in the notification dropdown (4.1+ required), or from a controller app.
The good news is that the app you see in the video is the stock gallery. The app I wrote simply adds the Chromecast as a "share to" option at the top. That means that you will have the ability to cast any image system-wide, as long as it has a share button with it.
Why not just use tabcasting with Google+? It's free and you can create whatever album you want.

Tabcasting doesn't work from android.

This is great stuff but I hate being force to select the pictures before chromecasting. I would want this to work just like the native gallery app but with Chromecasting in that I bring up the gallery and select to cast. Then I can flip through pictures and if I stop on one for more then 1 sec (configurable) then it will cast that photo. This was I can flip through pictures casting them on the fly...
I'm looking forward to seeing this app released. Being able to cast the gallery is something I definitely have been looking forward to.

This would require a rewritten "Gallery" app, adding swipe listeners and whatnot. I'm just trying to keep it simple. My app doesn't show up in the app drawer, it's treated more like an extension of Android. I do appreciate your feedback though, it's a great idea. Maybe someone will pick it up.
Wouldn't it be prudent to expect that most, if not all, gallery and slide show apps to have a Chromecast button in the future?
