Hi,
I am not a noob.
Moto x 2014 or nexus 5??
Which one is good??
I got to know that moto X doest run pure android and it runs GEL..
Moto x runs closest to pure android then any other phone besides the obvious Nexus. In fact its like running stock with a few amazing features thrown in to enhance the stock experience. I'd easily pick this phone over a nexus 5.

I just handed down my N5 and got a MX. Both phones are fantastic. I'd take them both over any other device out there. Can't go wrong. MX is a slight upgrade from the N5, but only slightly. N5 is more bang for your buck
I have heard that moto x lags when you switch to google search(swipe most left) on launcher and while pulling down notification.

No lag whatsoever. At least on kitkat

Was debating on Moto X vs Nexus 5. Was going with the Nexus 5 but was hesitant due to camera and speaker issues and with the cyber monday deal for the Moto X, I'm probably going with the Moto X but have a couple of questions.
1) Is there anything else from the Nexus 5 version of Kit Kat that didn't make it other than the business search/caller ID and the Google Experience Launcher?
2) If I side load the Google Experience Launcher, how does (or does) that affect the Moto hands free "Ok Google Now" and other hands free tools ie. I think i understand "OK Google" with the GEL only works on the home screen for the Nexus 5 but the Moto X works on any screen. Does one supplant the other, do they co-exist?
Thanks!
1) Well, if you also count the camera that comes with stock KitKat, then yeah. I think the only thing you'll be missing out on would be Photosphere though.
2) OK Google is completely vaporized, everywhere. You don't see it in Google Now, you don't see it in your home screen... essentially everything will be redirected to the Moto Touchless Control first.
I fixed both speaker and camera with mods and Google is coming out with a major camera software update specifically for the Nexus soon.
I was really on the fence about these 2 and went to the store to try the moto x again yesterday. The Nexus 5 screen is just so much better and amazing. That extra smidge of size makes all the difference to me, not sure why. But Moto X is amazing in many ways so you can't go wrong. I'll stick with my N5 and maybe consider a Moto X 2 when they enhance to quad core and 1080p...

Moto x. Better software. No lag. Faster updates.

Moto X of course. But, what did you expect when posting a question like this in the Moto X forum? I had the LG G2 and heavily favor the Moto X. Still think it's an awesome phone after a few months.
My comment on this was in one of these two postings:

This. G2 has better display, better battery life and MUCH better camera. Moto x has better software, better performance, more useful features, better speaker. If it wasnt for the lag i would say the G2 is better but because of it i say moto x.
Both phones are amazing in their own personal way...
I had the LG g2 after the moto x, then came back to the Moto x....
I missed the breathing notifications, and all of the personalization that comes with the moto x.
Fwiw, the LG g2 is a phone that you must root and put a custom rom onto in order to enjoy it ; at least for me.
The moto x is awesome out of the box!
Cheers,

I think it is a personal preference, they are both really good phones.
I have both and for me the G2 is the better phone. The moto is too small, the screen isn't as good, and is a touch slower and the camera is a step behind. Further, I tend to keep my phones for 2 years or longer and I feel like the G2 will be the better phone in the long haul. I know that some people complain about the UI but after a few weeks of using, rooting, and tweaking it I have it just the way I want it, lean but still useful feature rich. I loaded CM on it for 3 days and went back to my version of stock. It was just missing too much.
The moto is a great phone, the updates have been impressive, the features rock and my wife loves it. It is the good size for her and she doesn't care about screen resolution (or kit kat) in the slightest. She had a razr maxx and it was too big for her. She is much happier now with her pink and black moto x
good luck with your decision.
If you post this question on the "Moto X" area = Moto X winner
If you post this question on the "LG G2" area = G2 winner
G2 has better specs, better screen... but it's big, and clumsy, and made by LG which we all know, really don't care for updates... in the end, it's up to you...
I tried the G2 before the X (coming from a S4) and for me the screen was the deal breaker. I didn't like the G2 screen. I'm just a sucker for SAMOLED I guess but the low contrast and saturation of the G2 (both stock and CM10.2) drove me nuts constantly.
G2 wins on camera, battery life and audio quality over both the X and S4. The G2 processor absolutely smokes but I've been pleasantly surprised by the X in that regard as well. I'm not a gamer so this is just working with regular apps but it feels faster than the S4 and not too far off the G2.

I'm thinking of moving to the Moto X. Do you miss anything from the S3? Are there hardware or software features of the Moto X you couldn't live without now? The Moto X screen seems much smaller for only being .1 inches smaller.

I came from an s4. Never really used the features on the s4 except the smart stay which barely worked and the increase touch sensitivity which I do miss some. Other then that I don't really miss anything from it, being that I was stuck on TW. Got the moto x with the close to stock android feel and being on kit Kat without any issues has made the change much better. Root, busybox, greenify, and viper4android that's all you need. No need to flash custom Roms or anything. Make sure you get a 32 gig though.

No issues. I use my hands for work all the time and holding the 5" s4 was actually hurting my hand and was hard to text with one hand. 720 is still as good as 1080. I watched movies on movietube and its still pretty clear.

I came from the S4, I hated the lag. The S3 was much better. I only got the X because of Touchless Control. It was well worth it for me.

Flash is much brighter on the S3 and it has a better camera quality. Other than that, Moto X trumps all.

I didn't know how useful touchless control and active assist would be... I've only had my moto x for about 2 weeks and set up active assist. while driving it has been the most useful thing ever. Reading text messages and responding to them and picking up phone calls or making phone calls, All without having to pick up your phone. I've been using my gs4 headphones and it works great on the x except changing songs or pausing on the headphones.

Samsung's radios are pure CRAP. So if you want to use your phone as a PHONE or a 4G LTE device - AVOID SAMSUNG AT ALL COSTS THEIR RADIOS SUCK.
Also, touchwiz is a bloated skin that causes so much lag it is ridiculous.
I've just upgraded from an s4 The moto is faster in every way except wifi speedtest. It is much easier to use one handed, but the screen seems much smaller which is weird since there really isn't such a big difference.
The radios seems about the same when I check dbm and asu numbers.
The resolution on the moto is fine though the screen suffers from a lot of black crush.
I much prefer the moto. Hated the lag on the s4 and didn't care for the bloat.
I'm moving from an S3 and hated TouchWiz so much that I unlocked it and installed CM 11 on it. On stock the interface was laggy and the camera app was horrible. On CM there were developmental problems (normal for a new CM release) like Bluetooth not working correctly but at least it was snappy and the camera app was good.
Went to the Moto X and love it, I don't miss any of the Samsung crapware and while I've heard peopel complain about the wifi it is more than fast enough for me so I don't worry about it.
So now that Android 5.0 Lollipop is announced, we get to the (impatient) waiting game.
How long do you think before 5.0 finds its way to the Moto X Pure Edition?
They said in the coming weeks for the Nexus 5/7/10 and GPE phones. My speculation is 5-10 days for Nexus, 11-17 days for GPE, 18-30 days before X PE sees the update, and another 1-2 months before it finds its way to the carrier versions.
Here is where they will announce it:

Is it just me, or is there no way to pick the Pure Edition on there? I know it doesn't matter currently, but thought it was odd.
With the original moto x pure edition it was about a month after nexus devices that the moto got its update so I would say a couple of weeks after the nexus so late Nov...
They are pushing the vanilla expierence for the pure, and one of the boasts said it would be almost days after nexus, but that cant be reliable. For someone who had rocked L on their nexus 5 it cant come soon enough.
Anyone know how long after the pure moto x (2013) got updated for the at&t moto x to get it?

With the old moto x it was about 2 months after the pure got updated
Quick question: if I bought my phone full price does that mean it is the pure edition?

It will come when it will come. All the speculation won't make it get here any faster. Moto's track record with the 2013 models, including the Droid line, was stellar. Very quick update to KitKat. My Droid Maxx got it before even the Moto X crowd.

That's what I am saying, motorola will probably even beat some nexus devices
My personal unknowing opinion, by end of next month.
Something tells me it'll be really fast.
Like, same day/next day fast (I'm talking about Pure Edition of course)
The OS on the Moto X is as bare as it can possibly be. There's nothing to port, really.
All Moto-specific features (Moto Assist, Moto Voice etc.) are separate PlayStore apps.
And Nexus 6 pretty much is Moto X, only blown up. So there's no tangible reason for one handset to get Lollipop waaay before the other.

I mean they look the same, but they have completely different specs so saying that the N6 is a blown up Moto X is not an accurate statement.

And how are they fundamentally different? 801 vs. 805? Tomayto / tomahto.
It's not like N6 has 64bit architecture or something.

I am believing it'll be really fast too. Trusted devices doesn't need to be incorporated anymore. Google has their own ambient mode, so Moto could follow that. In Lollipop, the "ok Google" anytime is like Moto Voice, so perhaps less code to deal with. Lollipop looks like it does all the heavy lifting for Moto features. Motorola may have less work to do, except the camera app. They better focus on the camera app. They have no excuse since the APIs are there

Again, incremental update. Not too different.
Moto has the final Lollipop build and has probably already been setting it up for updating. The only thing that could hold it up would be carriers.

What about if you've bought the phone sim-free off Amazon? I'm assuming that's a Pure too?
So I am about to jump the gun on the Moto X tommorow, any Nexus 4 users here? How is the experience compared to N4. The only thing I will miss about the N4 is the development community, it seems like the Moto development community is very small.

Hi,
I have been using nexus 4 for over a year now but because its navigation keys won't work anymore i bought Moto X 2014 last month. Following are my observations compared to Nexus 4:-
1) you get near stock experience. so no trouble in getting used to the UI.
2) The phone doesn't lag at all(neither did my nexus 4) but u will see the difference while playing hd games... it is really smooth and plays high res games without any lag(Nexus 4 used to lag when playing some hd games).
3) There is not much phone heating even while playing high resolution games.(Nexus used to become so hot after playing for 15 minutes which was annoying).
4)i use the moto display and moto voice a lot. Moto voice is very helpful while u are driving as u can pick calls or reply to sms all through voice command...
5)The camera is definitely better than nexus but the stock camera app doesn't focus properly sometimes . u can install google camera from playstore and it should work properly. Still low light photography is not so great.
6)The front speaker is really good and is very loud too.
So overall i am happy with my moto x but the only disappointment is that it still hasn't received lollipop(US people have). And yeah i also miss the development community of nexus 4, But it should pick up for moto x as it is a fairly new device...
^^^ what he said. It's been a while that I've used my N4, I gave it to my daughter, but she had an issue with it and I forgot how hot that thing got. The moto X never gets that hot ?
