[Q] Charger?! - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This might be a dumb question, but can you charge the motto g (2014) using a nexus 7 2013 charger? I know that since the nexus 7.2 is a tablet the charging brick will put out more power, but is it safe to use it with this phone? Will it overheat or hurt the battery in any way?
Thanks.

it will explode and kill your cat
nah it's safe

It's fine. Just keep an eye on your cat.

Use only moto charger its not safe if u use nexus charger. input output current helps you to damage battery.

[Q] Looking for a good dock.

I've always liked having a dock on my nightstand for my phones, which essentially turns them into an alarm clock. Wireless would be a plus, or a way to incorporate the turbo charger, but neither is essential. Really just want a stand that charges. Any suggestions?

Do you have a link? When I Google Motorola flip dock, I get a $25 dock with almost universal hate in the reviews.

I'd avoid wireless charging like the plague. Just use your turbo charger. You really shouldn't leave it plugged in over night anyway so a stand is all you really need.

My last 3 phones have been retired because of the usb port failing from charging wear. I love the idea of wireless charging, care to explain your statement "avoid wireless charging like the plague"?
Wireless charging uses extra power because 20% is lost as heat. This heat is also not good for the life span of a lithium polymer battery... Especially when it's non removable...

Just for the record, the Sammy folding dock that I was using for my S4 works great but you have to coax it in place a bit.

Can you charge with your Sammy Dock? I have two and neither will charge Turbos. (both my wife and I upgraded from S4s to Turbos)

Don't be paranoid like me lol. I came from a Galaxy nexus with horrible battery life so my battery conservation carried over into my droid razr maxx hd, Droid maxx, and g3.
If you get a new phone every year or two, you're probably fine. But with a non removable battery, it does make it more difficult to fix.
I would strongly advise charging your phone from 30-90 and only do a 5-100% once a month for calibration.
Battery university is the place to read. You will discover that products are built for performance not longevity. Just like with an electric car it's better to slow charge over night. But sometimes you need to charge fast.
With smart charge 2.0 by qualcom aka turbo charge, it's so new of a technology we don't know what implications it will have on lifetime of the battery.
However qi charging isn't new. And most of the energy when charging wirelessly is lost from heat in the transmission. Basically if I were you I would only qi charge when absolutely necessary and monitor the temp with an app or something.
The flipside is usb port wear and tear. It's not cheap to fix a usb port unless you do it yourself. I am not sure how hard you are on your ports. It could be a better situation for you to wirelessly charge.

Just get a tylt wireless charger. I picked up two of them about a year ago. They had a 50% off sale. Use one for my nexus 7, and one for my lg g2. Now the turbo sits on it and works great.
I had a wireless charger the whole life of my g2, and I never saw a negative impact by it. It's just a lot more convenient.
I had this dock http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FOFY1J2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 that I had ordered for my Moto X. I plugged the Turbo charger into it, and the phone reports that it is being turbo charged through the dock.
Has a little wobble to the phone, because the usb jack sticking out of the dock is a little long, so the phone isn't really sitting on the spring loaded bottom, but I'm not worried about it.

Does the tylt stop charging at 100%? The Itia A6 does so then daydream or any bedside apps stop working.

It does stop charging when at 100%.
Wireless charging shouldn't get any hotter than the CPU or the cellular radio when they are working hard. The heat is a byproduct of the induction process in the coils of the receiver, not the battery itself. Typically shortening the battery life due to heat is from charging or discharging at a high a rate. The wireless charger is going to offer less power to the charging circuit than your wired charger. I love just placing it on the charger when I get home and not futzing with the USB cable... I understand wanting to get the most life out of the battery though, every bit counts.
I've been using wireless charging on my G2 since getting it last year. No issues with the battery.
Just got the turbo and I placed it on my original moto x dock from griffin and it fits perfect

The heat generated from the wireless charging is far from enough to damage anything. don't mislead others please. Besides, you go for a run with the phone and the heat generated from your body or if it's outside and the sun beating on it is more than what Qi charging would do under normal circumstances.

Same here, I've been using my Tylt charger for my Note 3 and have had no issues. I typically leave it over night as I set it on the charger before bed. Haven't had any issues, besides the slower charging rate is better for the cells. I would probably take advantage of the QuickCharge if I was on the go and really need to juice up. Otherwise the wireless charging for nightly charging.

[Q] iPad Air Charger for the Moto G?

I ordered the Moto G as a gift for my sister. The only USB charger she has is the one that came with her iPad Air. Will that one by OK for the Moto G? It is over 2A (2.4A I think) and I read somewhere that Apple doesn't follow the USB charging standards.
If anybody tried the Moto G with the ipad charger please let me know!
Thanks

I tried at my brother's home and it works
Thanks! How fast does it charge? I read somewhere that it could charge with just 0.5A (so really slow) even though the charger is over 2A, is this true?
So, does the iPad charger charge the Moto G at a good speed?
@2014 yes it should charge quickily
Thanks. She tried it and she said the ipad charger charged the Moto G in about 1 hour, which seems fine.
I have a generic 2.1a charger see pics... 1 h 14 min to full from 25%
according to motorola moto g can only use 1,5a max... even if the charger has more power it does not use all...
I thought the device would heat more using this 2.1a charger, but not the same as the 500mA or 850mA... my came with a 850ma charger...

Technically, the phone will automatically reduce the voltage and Ampe it receive. So just plug it in your phone and it does the rest for you.
I have so many chargers in my house, HP Touchpad, Motorla X910, Moto G, amazon 9w2A etc...
just plug into the Hp touchpad or amazon if I wanna charge fast. And the other which isn't in hurry
totally safe ! Unless you intend to use with while charging and the over-heat may cause a problem

Turbocharger needs fastcharge script,
THis script is in built in seveal custom kernels and also those used in CM12.
So if you install CM12 which has fastcharge support, tubocharger should work fine
Orignal charger takes 2.5 to 3 hours
use this "Sony CP-AD2 USB AC Adaptor" for your phone
use this Sony CP-AD2 USB AC Adaptor for Charging
You can by from amazon from this link:
Quick Compare:
Output: 5V 2.1A VS 5V 500mA(0.5A) as compared to original charger from Motorola
This charger charges your full phone in around 1 n 1/2 hr.
I found this as best charger around 500 bucks
Use orignal charger only. becoz other charger might damage u r battery.

[Q] Moto G 2nd Gen Touchscreen Issues while charging.

Hello everyone.
I had purchased moto g 2014 a couple a months back.Initially the device used to work flawlessly but from the past 2 weeks I have been experiencing issues with the touchscreen which dosent respond correctly while charging. It goes crazy when I hold the touch. Its been really difficult to work with the phone while charging. At around 80-90 percent is stabilizes a bit.Its dosent have any issue while off charger(ie once I unplug the wire it is still crazy but comes back to normal in a while),
I have tried to charging it with my moto charger which came along with my phone and have also tried charging with a Samsung,Sony and Nokia charger (all lower rated) but that too dosent fix the issue.I have even tried usb charging. Now those who would say the my apartments power outlets are noisy, well 4 different phones charge just fine without any issue.
I have even tried fixing this by upgrading to lollipop and then also a hard reset but both were useless.
So I really need to find a fix.Pls help.
Don't know what you are using for a charger as moto g doesn't come with a charger just a usb cable. You could always take the phone back to your supplier.
I have had bad USB cables cause this issue with other phones. Even chargers as well.
Try to use a good quality charger or if you're using a computer, a different port or computer.
I have an Anker cable with a Samsung USB wall charger I'm using and haven't had any issues, even takes a lot less time than the stock Moto G 2 charger (1200 ma vs 550ma).

Same here,I have been using a Nokia charger for a couple of days now,and I have found that the screen is a lot better than while charging on my moto charger(Earlier I used to start charging with my moto charger and then switch to other charger just to check if the problem gets solved but now I tried charging it right from zero with Nokia charger).Even the phone charges faster than that on the higher rated moto charger. So i guess the problems with the charger and not my digitizer or the battery. But still I am facing the screen issue(though on a much less scale).
So, have you tried to calibrate your touchscreen when charging?

That's a common problem with many touch-screen devices while loading.
The charger and/or cable is emitting a low electrical field which interferes with the digitizer and your body's electrical field. Not much you can do about. To find a proper shielded charger and cable is pure luck.

I don't think so. I have different devices from different Manufacturers ( 2 Motorolas, Asus, Samsung),all with different chargers. They all do misbehave while charging. Maybe it's a problem with the electrical system in the building. But I highly doubt a manufacturers error.

Which charger to use? (no quickcharge)
I bought a Samsung charger for my upcoming Nexus 6, i don't want to use the quick charger that comes with the phone. I am starting to suspect that this one is also a quick charger, can anyone look at the attached pictures and tell me? Also if it isn't a quick charger i would like to use it for the long run so my second question is would my battery be affected because of what says on the back of the box that i highlighted? In the highlight are also the specs of the charger, can someone clear this up for me?

I want to use the phone for a couple of years and don't want to shorten the battery life and also have the risk of inflating battery and everything that comes with it. What kind of charger should i buy to charge it in some "normal" time? The salesman in Samsung store told me this one charges Note 4, Galaxy S5 - which is why i bought it - the S5 doesn't have the quickcharge tech so i instantly thought it was an ordinary charger. On the other hand, my Galaxy Nexus official charger is rated for 1.0 A which surely isn't strong enough to charge the 6 properly so i am confused with what kind of a charger and with what ratings should i get? Thank you in advance.

2amps isn't going to shorten the life below 2 years. Higher amps only shorten life if they are above battery tolerances, which 2 amps is not.
Anyway, you'll want a 1 or 1.2 amp charger for slow charging

He wants slow charging. So charging through laptop / pc will be fine.
Charge cspacity of usb ports is 500 mA (900 mA for USB 3.0), that's good for slow charging.
Also 1-dollar charger from eBay will be fine.

That said for me, turbo charge stopped working and I'm very annoyed.
Google have first sent me a new charger which still hasn't arrived. Though I think the issue is the phone. But I wanted to avoid a refurb as long as possible. Can't live without turbo charge now.
I have this charger, http://www.walmart.com/ip/Belkin-F8J031TT04-BLK-Micro-Wall-car-Chrg-Kit-2.1a-10w-W-4ft/40457559, but i got just the charger for $20. It most definitely doesnt turbo charge, it takes atleast 2 hours, so id say its a "normal" charge for this phone and i think its better than the turbo charger, because it doesnt get hot and its still decently fast

The turbo output is only supplied on turbo enabled devices. So there is something wrong with switching to turbo modes 9 V and/or 12 V
I am curious what is the cause of this issue.
Did you try an 'charge app' like Ultra Fast Charger.?

I think its a usb port issue myself.
I don't know what a charge app is. I am monitoring my input though. I know the issue is not software as it just stopped working one day last weekend with no software changes.
Actually,.could even be the battery as.my wireless charger is very slow now too.

There are some apps in the play store claiming to boost the battery charge.
When wireless charging is also slow, than it could be indeed the battery.
Maybe a complete discharging ?
BTW
Turbo mode is only active when the battery is less than 75% charged.

There are some apps in the play store claiming to boost the battery charge.
When wireless charging is also slow, than it could be indeed the battery.
Maybe a complete discharging ?
BTW
Turbo mode is only active when the battery is less than 75% charged.

I don't believe they can but I'm not.going.to try anyway.
You should use a 5 Volt 2 Amp charger, those chargers are the one's that most phones use. Most new phones are using Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0, which you should use but if you are not comftorable then the 5 Volt 2 Amp will work good.
Errr, QuickCharge will in fact degrade a battery faster, it's still used because most phones only have a 2 year lifespan.
A non QuickCharger will also make it run less hot while charging and also be less likely to cause cell expansion. Not sure why there's so many people denying this.

Please don't tell him that it won't degrade his battery when it definitely will. It's basic chemistry.
To OP:
Any regular non Quick USB charger of reputable make will do fine. I use an older HTC charger. Don't get a super cheap offbrand one as it probably has fluctuating voltage which will also damage your battery.

Actually you've misread (or not read fully). No one disputes the science. That article isn't accurate. All it says is "too quickly" and if you read what I have said, is that the turbo charger is within acceptable tolerances. I.E. It is not "too quickly"

I think you're not understanding the basic chemistry. More heat = more degradation of the Li-ion battery, regardless of tolerances. A lower power charge will always degrade the battery slower. This isn't about tolerances.
