Stamina mode - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When i first got my phone and enabled stamina mode, it showed that i had 3+ days estimated battery time left. But after recharging it, it never shows that much battery time anymore. I had to reset the phone to get it showing 3+ days again. Anyone knows why?

It's just speculation, but I think it may use your past data to compute the time left. So at first it shows > 3 days, but if you use your phone a lot and it typically lasts only one or two days it will adapt and show that instead.

Battery Life

If anyone can help, I just need to know one thing before I get one of these.
How long does the battery last with direct mail on all the time using a 3G connection.
My Touch keeps it going for 2 days (at a push) on GPRS.
I dont think it can last that long.
I took off from the power source at 9.00 saturday morning and used couple of times for 3G internet browsing, trying configurations, browsing again. And was turned off during saturday evening.
When I back at home, Sunday 19:00, it was 9% left.
Btw, I dont use push mail and not always connected to 3G.
If you dont have GPS/constant GPRS connections active, then I'm fairly sure the life will be respectable once the battery is conditioned.
Currently, under heavy use mine lasts from 9am to about 11pm. The battery has only had three days of charging though, and wont be optimal just yet.
I think thats where the problem is going to be, if direct push keeps the data connection going all the time its going to last about 3 hours, maybe more with the screen off.
Anyone doing this on a daily basis? Its a shame 3G uses so much power, as I said GPRS/direct push can go almost 2 days on my Touch/Elf.
Might have to give this a miss then, which is a shame.
mattpark,
Interesting ... How to make it optimal then?
By fully charging it several times?
Or by connecting it to a power source all the time?
Thanks

The first...
Make sure you always charge the battery completely full (ie till the light comes on green) the first 5 to 10 times...
FULL means charging it double the time it takes for the light to become green. Green light means 90% (although indicators show 100%), and the last 10% takes the double the time to 'squeeze' in there
A battery has to 'set'.... So be sure you to follow this guide
Mt 8525 would last *most* of the day with direct push.
If I spoke on the phone more than a couple hours the batter would be dead or at least turning its self off by 5pm.
I'm wondering if the 8925 will be the same?
I purchased an extended battery which lets me use the phone all day.. but for a 3600 batter that's huge and requires a custom back it only lasts 2 days at best so far. I've been testing 2 weeks.
I may not get an extended battery because this huge backing is anoying and ruins the look of the phone. I love how the kaiser looks and would hate to ruin that. I would get an extended if it fit into the case itself.
Bottom line though I think an extended battery of some sort of absolutely required if you use push mail.. the only question is how long it will last.
Oh balls, Ive just bought one - So thats nokia e65, tytn1, htcs710, htc touch and tytn2 all inside 5 months!!
If you're concerned w/push email and less with web surfing, you can change the band the phone uses to plain GSM (EDGE) and that would allow you to use it for days at a time.
Using 3G/HSDPA, mine lasts from around 7AM to about 3PM with push constantly running and at least 2 hours of web surfing and about 1/2 hour of phone usage.
Hope that helps.
is it possible to disable 3g under configuration settings?, It is not really needed most of the time!
Disabling 3G
Go to Phone, settings, select band, i think choose GSM only, that should do it. There are some apps too that can do this for you on the TYTN.
your battery will go from 8-12 hrs to 24+, and thats w/ push email, i really couldn't care if a 16k email comes in 6 seconds or 2???
do you?
Battery life so far has been okay (only been using for about 2 days). I have direct PUSH activated but I am only using edge. I take a couple of calls per day + 10 min internet browsing. Battery is about 10-15% at 10 pm at night. My day starts around 9 am.
PS- just a reminder to uncheck the "receive incoming beams" in Settings menu if you don't use that function to save some battery life.

There's no infrared support on this device, so I'm not sure if that option does anything. Strange that they kept the .cpl though (had assumed it was accidentally left in the as-yet-unfinished AT&T roms).

If you don't want your data connection open all the time, try installing GBSoft's GPRS & Audio Tweak program. Get it here: http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs_tweak_wm5pe_en.htm
You can set it to turn off your GPRS connection every x minutes.

For the first week I was playing with the phone a lot, so battery was draining quickly. But last two days I've got easier, so after ~25 hours since disconnecting charger, I still have 57% battery left.
Generally, I think battery life would be more or less like Hermes' - ~2 days with 3G, and ~3 days with 2G-only.

No, I don't use push e-mail. I've set up automatic e-mail checking every 15 minutes once, tough - but I got rid of it for now, as data connection stays open after checking email, which is not quite nice, regarding battery life...
Can I charge the battery using my old HTC Magician charger?
It has the same input and output (at least from what I read).
The reason that I want to use the HTC Magician charger because I live in NL (charger has 2 legs) and I bought the Kaiser from UK (charger has 3 legs).

Problem: very weak battery, even for the diamond!

Hello guys!
It's nearlly my first posting here, but i'm reading this forum for quite a while now.
I finally got an Xda diamond and everything was ok the first couple of days, even the battery was satisfying. When i use it really much, the battery lasts for about a day, that's ok. But 2 days ago, suddenly the battery got empty from 100% down to 0% in 7 hours, although i did not use the phone much. I had a call for about an hour and that's it.
Knowing there are some possibilities to save energy, i followed some advice from this forum:
- took down the display light to stage 2
- switched off UMTS
- switched off GPS
- installed powermanagement.cab
- switched off RSS Hub auto-download
- made sure there are no applications running in the background all day
- made sure there are no data-connections like Bluetooth or GPRS running all day
I also installed PowerGuard v1.2 which told me, my Diamond drains about 65 mA, what seems to be a proper value, comparing to other peoples around here.
This morning i took the Diamond off the charging cable at 8:00 and it switched off at 16:00. I only used it for a 1 hour phone call again, thats all. I did not do anything else with it.
I don't unterstand, why it lasted much longer the first couple of days. Anybody have an idea?
Thx so far!
1. Check with Task Manager Cpu proccess
2. Hard Restet ?
I have the same problem AND additionally sudden softresets.
The battery is defect. I will buy a new one and o2 will refund the money.

The battery is not supposed to get empty to anywhere near 0%, it can be damaged if it does. The phone is supposed to turn off to prevent that happening.
If killing tasks does not help, maybe you just got a bad battery? Edit: ^^^ What he said!
Here's a useful link for information on Li-ion batteries: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm
Hi!
I recently found the solution. My sim-card was too old! I had been using it for about 4 years. A couple of days ago, I ordered a new one from my provider (O2 Germany) for free. Since I changed the sim-card, I never had any problems with the battery anymore.
Why didn't I find this advice anywhere?
Cheers
Your SIM card was "too old"? My technical prowess is nothing to brag about, but even I can tell you that that could hardly have been the cause.
Older Sims seem to drain more battery power...
I have to agree with H3x ... I don't see how a SIM card would have any effect on battery life.
As a point of reference, I'm very satisfied with my battery life. I charge it for an hour or two a couple times a week. I am diligent about turning off WiFi, Bluetooth, and running apps when not in use, but other than that I don't do anything special.
With GSM band manually selected in phone options and moderate use, my diamond can last over 2 days, with "auto" band selection it barely lasts a day...it just drains stock battery so much, even in standby...but I still can't be happier with my device, no matter what
Decided to watch battery more carefully over PowerGuard, some things started to make more sense...

[Q] xperia z battery issues

Hi all
I'm new to android and am having some major issues with my Sony New xperia z.
First off stamina mode is simply not working. It did to start but it's now not changing the expected battery life when toggled on and off. That's just the start though.
Battery life had been absolutely terrible. I have been deliberately stopping myself from using the handset just so I can make it through the day.
I have come from an iPhone 4 and am quite a heavy user normally, my battery always lasted well beyond one day. New I know the screen and processor on this are awesome but I'm literally not going to be able to use any apps or anything if this is the true battery life.:crying:
I noticed that android os was taking the majority of my battery for just if today, screen has since taken over since I got in because I've been searching the net for potential answers.
Android services is up there as well. I installed a battery checker to see if my phone is but going into deep sleep for some reason and found that there had been something like 3000 wakelocks since last charge (unplugged this morning). I'm now down to 3% after about 13.5 hours since unplugged.
Screenshot was from before I started writing this post.
Any help please. If this isn't some sort of bug/fixable errorI might have to see about returning this phone!
Is this amount of wake locks normal? How can I tell what's stopping my phone from sleeping? I'm new to android other than my nexus 7 which had always been amazing in terms of battery.
Thanks all
John
Go into your Google account and disable everything from syncing expert the essentials, logout of talk etc , that should help.

Battery life is not great, but it's good for me. However, my Xperia Z is rooted and all the non-essential apps and services disabled (pretty much everything of Sony's).
Can last for a whole day from morning 8am to night 12pm, and still left about 20%. Heavy user, 5 hours screen-on time, surfing, calls, text/whatsapp, and a couple of videos for about 30min.

Hi guys
So I've charged it overnight, and this morning I've purposefully turned Stamina mode off (though the number doesn't change from 20 hours either way, Stamina mode is definitely broken on my handset!)
I've also turned off a load of location service options from within maps, as per a solution I found on a google forum (but it won't let me post the link as I'm still a noob!)
It sounds like lots of people have had similar issues with Android 4.1.2. Dare I hope that Sony release the 4.2.2 update as quickly as rumoured and that this will fix these issues!?
I'll report back in later on the battery use. So far only used 7% since being unplugged at 8:30am, and i have made a few long calls this morning (I use the phone for work as well as play )
I really haven't been using Apps all that much at all. I haven't even tried Google Talk yet. I am a games man really, so hopefully I can get the battery life sorted so I can make use of this phone to its full capability.
I don't want to disable 3G as I see this as standard operating functionality, and I usually use my phone to browse the web, check emails, check facebook, use whatsapp, stream youtube vids, everything you would expect a connected smartphone to do. I suppose what I'm saying is I don't want to disable anything that takes away from how I would actually use the handset, otherwise even if the battery lasts, its not doing what I need it to. It would be like a paperweight with a long lasting battery... pointless.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I really appreciate all the support. Fingers crossed I get a better day out of it today! Watch this space.
:fingers-crossed:
Much better today. I've had to use it for quite a few calls, watched a couple of vids and listened to a couple of tracks plus played about 4-5 levels on angry birds space. I'm at 56%remaining after 9 hours on battery. This is with stamina mode off. 1 hour 37 mins of screen time.
To be fair it's still not as good as I had hoped, but this at least means it'll likely last till bedtime with some battery remaining. I get the feeling that tomorrow it migot be even better. Also I think once the 4.2.2 update is released it will probably improve. I also get the feeling it may have improved after I opened YouTube and Google talk for the first time - almost as if android was holding its breath until I opened them. Could it have been holding out for me to open them so they could complete initial setups or something?
All this being said, after being on here for only about 5-10 minutes to write this post I'm now down to 51% all of a sudden!
Wrong thread.
Hi there, So did you manage to fix the stamina mode? I'm having the same problem. Turning stamina mode on or off doesn't change the idle time left. Though this is my second day using and only second charge.

I believe stamina mode kicks in when You switch the screen on.
On the couple of first day, when You play with Your new phone all day long with full brightness, it could run out pretty quick (less than 9 hours I had).
I got my Xperia Z on release day in UK and to be honest, I've been checking 'battery issues' threads for all day long
Two days ago, I did a proper test eg 'everyday use'. Phone battery lasted nearly two full days :good:
Basicaly I upluged Z from charger 6 in the morning and I died on me NEXT day when i sat on sofa around 8 pm watching Youtube with headphones on. So I got over 2 hours constant screen on with music before it died.
Through the rest of the time i managed to get over 2 hours of screen time, answering over 12 calls, sending loads of messages and checking facebook, xda, twitter and instagram countless times :highfive:
1 day 13 hours 24 minutes
And here is the screen time.
My stamina is set to allow gmail only, which obviously tells me if I sold anything on ebay, got interaction on any of my websites.
My screen brightness was set to automatic with slider full to the right.
Vibration when touching screen are off since day one (don't really like it )
I was worried about battery too. From thinking it is not good, I've changed my opinion to its WAY better than S and Ip5 (which i own still until i sell them on ebay). Hope this clears things up for anyone. Ohh, phone was ran to flat out once on release day, then full charge and flat 2 times before this.
Now I have to say, I absolutely LOVE THIS PHONE now!
:victory:
Is it time to try a custom rom?

Hi there - nope. Stamina mode is bust for me. I'm not bothered enough to factory reset again though. I'm still experiencing intermittent battery issues, like today for example I took it out the wall at 6:35, I'm already down to 66%. To be fair, I've watched a couple of 2-3 mins videos on Youtube, used a bit of tethering (about 5 minutes) and sent a few texts, but this is way higher than I would expect. By contrast, yesterday the battery seemed to last pretty well, but then I was working from home, so there was very little in the way of searching for signal etc.
I've contacted Sony about this, and their official line is to download PC Companion software and do a "software repair" (through their usual updating route) I'm going to probably give this a go over the weekend, but it has warned me that I might lose my data... so it might be the equivalent of a factory reset anyway.
I'm a bit sick about worrying about battery life now - getting a new handset should be exciting and I should just be enjoying the features of this superphone. Instead I'm deliberately not using it to make sure I don't run out of juice. Starting to wonder what the point in having it is.
As a newbie, I don't know much about rooting and using non-stock software - does anyone know if:
Its easy to do (I am fairly computer literate at least)?
There are custom roms I could use for the Xperia Z?
It would likely help the battery life?
Thanks again all

Well, that's me jealous as hell then! I'm going to do the software repair, as obviously I do have some issues with the battery (rather than me just being paranoid, and it being normal to get the battery usage I've been receiving)
Agreed. I just one good battery life not great. Enough to last a day with moderate-heavy usage. I don't mind charging at night. But charging every half a day is ridiculous..
Anyways I too have my stamina broken. Now i'm doing the software repair. hopefully it'll be okay. I really hope that after a few weeks the XZ can last long..

I'm hoping that when they release the Android 4.2.2 update it'll help too. I've read lots of forums about people getting poor battery life when upgrading to 4.1.2 (which the Z comes with as standard) but these being fixed when upgrading to 4.2.2. So hopefully they'll release it as quickly as the rumours suggest and this can help.
I've certainly got no battery problems whatsoever on my Nexus 7 on 4.2.2, but then its a totally different device.

Trust me even if the Stamina Mode doesn't look llike it is working there is still a big difference having it off and On, yes the phone is being woken up but still not as much as with it off.

i was having the same problem stamina mode worked fine but than for no reason it stopped and i could see the % drop before my eyes, but then i did a factory reset to the handset and it was fine after that works perfectly, def not a solution as there is no need for such a talked about feature to be so unreliable having said that after i did my factory reset i had it on 100% for 5 hours on standby with 15 min of screen time , just goes to show how awsome something is if it worked as advertised

Yeah, the factory reset worked for me too... for a day or so. Then boom, went to check it and it was doing the old 20 hours, no difference thing. Real pain the posterior.
In a funny sort of way, I'm glad that others aren't experiencing the same battery issues as me, as it confirms that its something that's not quite working right with my handset, rather than it being as its supposed to be, and hopefully a firmware release or simply doing Sony's suggested software repair will fix it.
On the other hand, it does make me feel that "Why is it always me?" feeling!

[Q] [SUPPORT][BATTERY]Battery drain or Software problem?

I own a Samsung galaxy S advance for the past two years now.
Still on Gingerbread 2.3.6. India unrooted. Past 3 weeks I was visiting USA.
I was using a AT&T Go-phone there.
What happened is my phone always switched off while I was using it. Just like THAT! I was thinking because I was using WhatsApp on this phone, I thought maybe cause I have a different number for WA and so WA was continuously trying to identify the number whenever I was on-line.
Specifically, the battery used to drain from 75 or 63 or 47 % right down to 4 %!!!. And when plugged in, in off state, the battery used to get charged to full within seconds (the indicator showed full 100%). After I switched it on, the phone again switched off. This happened quiet a few times and so when I returned to India, I uninstalled WA reset my phone, formatted the USB storage and used a few apps to recalibrate and determine the "health" of the battery. Also I noted the time for it to switch off. I was around 2 and a Half hours which means actually the battery drain and switching off randomly continued even after factory reset.
Now here are the questions
1)Has the battery gone beyond its life or is there a problem with the software or is there some bug that is killing the battery? Just a small note here, the battery is kinda swollen
2)Also, what should I do, buy a new battery or install new software (custom ROM or something else) depending upon the ROOT cause from the above question.
Please help.
Thanks indeed.

Thanks for the prompt reply,
Yesterday, I charged the battery (phone) and I didnt install WhatsApp. I left the phone in flight mode and just let it out for "idling".
For a good 7 hrs it was as it is and then I installed WA and bang! switched off.
Do you reckon that, the application uses a lot of juice so much so that the remaining battery dies off instantly? (now that the battery is in bad "health")

For a good 7 hrs it was as it is and then I installed WA and bang! switched off.
Do you reckon that, the application uses a lot of juice so much so that the remaining battery dies off instantly? (now that the battery is in bad "health")

Indicator probably shows non correct value. Or it shows, but battery is so weak now that little consumption of energy drains it that much...
Thanks

[Q] Battery Drain?

Anybody else have crazy battery drain after all the updates and the sync process? I thought the both the round LG watches were supposed to have relatively killer battery life compared to the 360, but day 1, I was at 13% after only 8 hours off the charger (screen = always on). I've just done a full reset and resync, so we'll see how day 2 goes.

Try to lower your brightness level. It should help.
What is your current setting?
At brightness level 2 aftet a full day I was at 44% on day 3...

Yeah... something's definitely not right. I'm at 11% after about 8 hours of use. And that's with screen off and brightness set to 2.
Can you tell what your other settings are? Did you turn off WiFI or leave it on "Auto'? What apps have you installed?

I have been off the chargers since 6:45am and am at 51% right now ((4:01pm). Brightness at 2, wifi on, watchface maker, and slumber for android. I have not done anything else special. Maybe try a factory reset and see if that helps
Good Luck,
Aaron

Any news Leo? Is it better?

It is indeed! It took a 2nd factory reset, but it seems to be performing as reasonable levels now. After about 14 hours of charger, Always On screen, WiFi on Auto and pretty heavy notification day (about 200 emails and IMs), I'm just now at 49% battery. That's more like it.
I'm pretty much convinced that a system process or two can get "stuck" when doing a version upgrade in many cases. Doing a factory reset post update seems to always fix the issue.

I'm having similar results as your first run. Was below 15% before I left work. I'm going to try to reset as well.
I had the same exact issue. The first full day I had the watch the battery completely drained in about 8 hours. All my friends at work laughed their asses off on my new watch
Well I went home charged the watch and did a full reset. Today I had the watch from 8am to about 9pm and the battery had 58% left... so definitely reset after all the updates are completed.
The reset itself took almost 30 minutes... is that normal?
Its amazing how quickly the watch charges... in about 15-20 min I had a full charge... I gather its a small battery but still nice to see that.
Yep. It took about 30 minutes for the full reset, including the time it took for all the apps to resync. It's been rock solid for the last 3 days since.
Does anyone know if the navigation battery drain has been fixed in 5.1.1? In 5.0.2 most or all of us are seeing the watch go dead after about a three hour drive.

Never noticed that. Mine pretty much for the 5.1.1 update immediately after I first got it connected. You didn't get prompted?

I still have a Moto 360 on 5.0.2. The navigation battery drain issue is just one more reason I'm thinking of getting the Urbane.
Ah! Sorry... Missed that part. Sounds like 5.1.1 will probably drop before or during Google I/O, so it may be worth sticking it out to see if it helps.
Just a data point. I purchased at the opening gun which isn't long but does add some concern to fact that I've had two random battery drain events during the period. Both times were after the update and I simply recharged and the phone was back to normal battery without any reset. That is with zero apps or market faces installed or used which implies that there is something hanging the watch in the stock firmware.
At the end of the day ( 7am to 10pm) my battery gets down to about 10-15% and thats with the screen off, wifi off and brightness at level 1
I tried a factory reset and now with the same settings i get to around 35%, still an improvement but not the greatest! Any ideas on why this happening / any fixes or settings to turn off? Im thinking of doing a second factory reset as someone said above helped.
Thanks,

Honestly I think that's within the range of acceptability. I can be anywhere from 30-50% after a normal day, depending on usage. I'm convinced that the folks that get 2 full days or more on a single charge basically turn everything off and use mostly stock apps and watchfaces.
Last night, I went from about 7 AM - 1 AM and had about 25% left (always on, brightness 1, wifi auto, step tracking on, etc.). Put it theater mode for sleep tracking app to work, and by 6:45 AM I was at 21%. That's about what I'd expect from these watches at this point.
