For ATT, this works fine, I use it.

I know it's not a direct answer to your question, but you may want to consider switching to google voice for your voicemail needs. I recently made the switch, and it is awesome. My voicemail just appears in Hangouts right along with text messages associated with that phone number. I was able to listen to a voicemail while on an airplane over WiFi today... It's pretty sweet.

Does not work for me. Does the same thing at the one I pulled from my S3, it loads it has me call into my VM to activate but then just sits there and says it wasn't able to activate, try to call voicemail again...
I've tried a half dozen times.
Don't want to derail the thread anymore though for the OP so I'll make my own post! Thanks though!

What exactly didn't work? I would be happy to help you fix the issue.

Google voice imo

There's a Verizon vvm nexus on the play store. Can't get it to work though

I switched to YouMail in the play store to replace Verizon VM. Pretty happy with it.

I pulled these from my 2013 Moto X /system/priv-app/
Its the VVM.apk and vvm.odex
I placed them in the same directory on the Nexus 6 and made sure the permission were the same as the Moto x.
Once I reboot, I got a popup dialog that said visual voice mail had failed. But the app was in my app drawer.
if anyone has any suggestions.
Attached are the files. I am in the same boat.

Haha thanks man, that was mostly my bud Erishasnobatter and Ihtfp69, everyone is pretty busy with work, will see what shakes out though!!

Voicemail .apk
I pulled these off of my Droid Turbo.
This version of Verizon VoiceMail is 3.1.0.
I also put in the same directory and set permissions and rebooted. It installed with no force closes but I cannot get past the set up.
I get this error message and code 9009.
Someone wanna call support and ask them for a workaround while I'm at work??
Anyone that is smarter than me wanna give this a shot?? I would love the community to be able to pull this off and get this working for all of us premium voicemail users.

Sorry, when I switched to Verizon last year and realized they were trying to charge Android users for visual voicemail (something I've gotten free on Sprint and ATT) I told them to shove it and switched to Google Voice for my visual voicemail needs. Never looked back.

It takes some finesse, but is definitely possible - I'm using Google Voice for only my voice mail on my Verizon Moto X. If you're interested, PM me, and I can try to help you out.
Also, I do not know how to pull .apks and am not rooted, otherwise I would.

Really? Works flawlessly here and very little finesse necessary on my part.
Set it up, make Google Voice your voicemail provider in Phone / Settings / Voicemail / Service, and in the next step when it tells you your carrier is not able to be set up automatically, just click, next, skip, whatever... then dial the numbers listed here (I dial all three just to be safe, but just using the first had worked for me early on):

7zip. It's just another zip utility with slightly different compression. Just do a search for 7zip and you'll find something that can open it.

As discussed, it's just a compressed file. If I attach a .zip, most people try to flash it and then say they it didn't work .

You need to put the files in /system/priv-app and make sure the correct permissions are set for both files. If it doesn't show up in the app launcher, you can try installing it from that location.

OK. Do I moved it into the system/privapp folder. It does show up in my app drawer however the app won't open.. What should the permissions be set to? Right now I have everything checked. Tried a couple different combinations but none of them have seemed to work..

it may never work. it might need some other verizon apk to run correctly for all i know. a lot of system apps that verizon or others install rely on other apps to work. thats why people are nervous when removing certain bloat ware system apps because sometimes they help other apps work.
google voice saves money and integrates with every phone and is far more useful. You can set it up to text you when someone hits your voicemail even if you failed to receive the call on your phone. No point in using vvm IMHO.

[APP] Google Dialer

This is a modified dialer apk, and root is NOT required. All credit for this goes to those mentioned in the original OP.
I know this is in the S6 forums, but it is confirmed (by me) working on G5.

Does this app actually make the call or is it just a dialer that opens the LG app soon as you hit send? I'm just looking for a solution to the stock app because it turns hot pink when you hang up... It's the only thing about this phone that I don't like. It's driving me crazy ?

Goto Settings > Apps > *Touch the 3 dots in the top right corner* and select Configure Apps > Default Apps > Phone App > *Select the Google Dialer. It will be listed as simply "Phone"
I have not tested this for incoming calls just yet, but for outgoing, it will skip the stock dialer completely. Hope this helps.

It's more visually pleasing? For people who really want a stock Google experience, it's one more thing to get you closer to that. With this and the Contacts app installable from APK Mirror, I'm officially using all the stock Marshmallow apps for everything but my Exchange email.

I find the LG dialler requires more finger presses. But I'm coming from the Song Xperia dialler.
New call: Go to dialler. Possibly not on the call tab so click that. Start to type name and some suggests come up. Click on the [v]. Select the person/number to call. And now the bit that annoys me, press the call button. If I click on number why not just call them, why show number and wait for me to press another button?
Call back: So I missed a call. Go to dialler, go to call logs, click on the call I missed. Show the contact details. WTF? So now I click the phone icon and call. Yes I know there is a little call icon but I'm used to clicking a phone number and it dials it. Not have to locate one tenth of the call log line to start a call.
Anyway, I'll get used to it but I do think I have to do more work for simple calls versus other diallers.
Wow. That is as clear and concise an answer as I could ask for. I wish my wife would answer simple questions like that, but I have to ask her twenty follow-up questions just to get an answer to the first one! So, I do see what you mean, and I have found it at least a little annoying myself. I guess I just accepted it as the way it is. Never really thought to look for a different dialer, but by golly it just might be worth a look now. Thanks for taking the time to give such a thorough answer. I hope you type much faster than I do, but I use Swype keyboard.
Does the original Dialer needs to be uninstalled first before installing Google-Dialer 3.00?
-> If yes, where to get that original Dialer found and uninstalled?
How about if Google-Dialer will be updated in future to 3.xx?
- Auto-Update or manual update needed?
- Link to webside to be able to always have the latest version installed?
Thx
It's crashing on me. Where can I get one that works?

Ive had no issues with this. Been using it for a week or so & has been flawless.
Also been working for me with no issues. Combined with the Google Contacts app and then Calendar, Clock, and Calculator, throw an icon pack into Nova, and I seriously feels like I'm stock. Very very happy.
as soon as i click on the icon i get "Unfortunately, Phone has stopped" message.
There are several versions out there. It would be helpful if ya'll would specify which version is or is not working. I am running the 2.05.07_rc4 with no issues. I haven't tried the 3.0 version yet.

Visual Voicemail - Unlocked S8 - SM-G950UZKAXAA

Since I still rely on Verizon's Visual Voicemail, I was a little annoyed when I noticed that the VVM icon was missing. After downloading a Verizon VVM version apk and attempting install, it states that another program exists with the same signature. I looked for the App under Apps and cannot find it. This is while looking at all apps as well.... not just enabled apps. I'm assuming the com.samsung.vvm exists in the apps directory that I cannot see without root.
Does anyone know a way around this without root? I check my voicemail way too much the old way with *86 since I have no way of knowing if I have a voicemail. Sometimes calls just don't come through where I'm at.

Any chance of getting a Verizon Visual Voicemail apk that will work on an unlocked phone?
I asked a Verizon salesperson if there were any drawbacks to buying an unlocked S8. None, she said. Maybe she honestly didn't know, but not having Visual Voicemail is making me think I've wasted $700.
I tried the YouMail workaround and found my voicemails delayed by up to 12 hours, so that's not going to cut it. I already use Google Voice for my work line, so that's not a great option either.
Hoping someone can help me salvage something from my mistake so that I can get the most from this otherwise awesome phone.
Someone should ask jkruse he find ways on the S7 edge without root.
I think he's still researching

I don't know why Verison's VVM is so much better than other options. I use Google Voice and get visual print outs of VM. I may just be ignorant of the benefits of Verizon's app, but there must be others out there that are just as good.
I just need some app that tells me I have a voicemail from Verizon. I do not want to forward my phone to some other system for voicemail.
I have an APK for the VVM application. That is the point of this post. It will not allow me to install it because it says that an app with the same signature is already installed. Since I do not have Root, I cannot browse the root apps and remove the old one or fix it's issues since it doesn't show in the apps list for all apps.
Can you post a link to the APK? I'm in the same situation.

This was from a titanium backup on my other phone. Just won't load because of the signature issue on my phone. And I don't have root to fix that.
Maybe someone can do the proper decompile and modify the signature for the APK... then Maybe non-rooted users can install?
anyone out there please give me something. i have the unlocked s8+ on verizon and no voicemail. if someone leaves a voicemail, i will not get an icon i would have to call my voicemail to see. i would be fine not having VVM but i dont even get an icon. WTF??? I cant get the google VVM to work some how....tried how everyone else is doing it voicemails are not sent to my phone.....sooo stupid....

That was just the wording I used to imply to the Verizon tech that I thought would be full blown but was actually promptly helpful. I wanted no vvm on my account to just have old-school basic. That's how I said it hoping they would understand. You won't get vvm unless you use 3rd party apps line goggle voice which I couldn't get to work that essentially forward your voicemail to 3rd party apps. Old-school works fine for me. I'm forced to use it on my pos iPhone 5s for work anyways.

Thanks. Hopefully I'll be able to flash the Verizon firmware and see if that works. It would be so much nicer if I could just install the app.

Sprint VVM with unlocked Note 8?

So lovin the phone so far. I purchased the unlocked version directly from samsung. Activated on sprint no problem however being unlocked I dont have any of their bloat ware on my phone kinda nice. However I also do not have their visual voicemail app. I found a copy .apk from this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-sprint/themes-apps/modded-sprint-visual-voicemail-apk-t2994978
Loaded it however it does not seem to work app starts up but does not show the existing voicemail in the voicemail box. states activation message could not be sent check connection. I contacted sprint they were of no help and claim they do not even have visual voice mail. Any way was hoping somebody here far smarter than myself figured out how to get this to work. Its not the end of the world but would be nice to have the visual voicemail back.

I've tried using search, and cant seem to find my answer... My carrier is sprint, note 8 snapdragon rooted rev1 bootloader. I am not getting a single voicemail notification, nor is there any vvm app. I really only need the notifications. After being on the phone with sprint for a long time, their solution was to use google voicemail. Now that root is achieved how can I install and use sprint VVM? Do you have a copy of the apk you can share?

I am not getting a single voicemail notification, nor is there any vvm app. I really only need the notifications. After being on the phone with sprint for a long time, their solution was to use google voicemail. Now that root is achieved how can I install and use sprint VVM? Do you have a copy of the apk you can share?

I don't but you can get the voicemail to work...but if you root! Both the rooted system and the Sprint ROM have working VVM...

I appreciate the response, but I'm looking for an app solution. I really don't want to flash something and wipe again. It was months before I rooted because I couldn't find the time to re-set up the phone. Is it possible to just install the apk and edit build.prop like you suggested in your earlier post?

Yes...you can...just Google Sprint VVM for rooted ROMs and extract the app from your Sprint folder in csc directory or from DevDigitel's ROM...you can edit the build prop to designate greatltespr or something like that...you will see what others have done for ROMs before...I am going to try this with my ROM in the coming week...if you need, give DevDigitel a pm as he did this for his ROM....sorry I don't have the specifics at the moment...It has been a while since I had to do it and it was a Note3....if I get done with my ROM and come up with a clear method I'll let you know how I did it...but it may be a week or so...
I actually flashed your unbranded a long time ago, and I lost voicemail notifications then, so I can wait another week. Thanks for your help

How To - Google Dialer VVM Activation Steps - YMMV

Ok so I'm posting this because we started to get off topic in the other thread, not because I think you will find it useful lol.
Basically the steps I will outline will trigger your Google Dialer to try and activate VVM. If you are on Sprint like me, all it will do is add the voicemail tab. I've seen posts from others that say the app does import all of their current Voicemails but no new ones after that. Maybe that is carrier specific or maybe if you are signed up for VVM through your carrier it works, I don't personally know.
Anyway, here we go.
What you'll need:
1- A rooted device - I'm guessing this will work on all devices not just our V30s but I haven't tested elsewhere. Feel free to provide feedback if you see this and try it on other phones, and then maybe this post can move to general Android instead of V30.
2- Google dialer installed - mine has been converted to a system app, and I'm part of the beta, so I can update through play store. I am also running magisk modules that may be allowing all of this to happen, such as xml pack, Google framework, and some others. Shout out to their respective devs, thank you.
3 - The app Shortcut Master which is available as a paid app on play store.
4 - some patience because this literally only works sometimes for unknown reasons. Maybe we can narrow down the failure rate with some trial and error but for now I can't tell you why it works sometimes and other times nada. The upside is, there seems to be no I'll effects from trying and failing.
Tldr.
You need root, Google dialer (maybe as as a system app) and the app Shortcut Master to get this done.
You should probably Force close the Google dialer app before you start so the settings take hold. Not sure if you have to, but shouldn't hurt to do it.
Step one:
Open shortcut master. Click search and enter the word "voicemail"
Step two:
You'll see lots of results. Ignore them all and scroll down to ones under the Phone App. Find VoicemailSecretCode and click launch. (I guess you could also just search that instead of just Voicemail)
Step 3:
You'll see a white screen with two options.
Sync
VVM config override < click this one.
Step 4:
Press the top option titled "load current"
You'll see it change some of the fields. This is just pulling in the current config and since you don't have much going on, very little should change.
Step5
Click the Override toggle.
Input your phone number (see pics)
Press back once when done.
Step 6
You should back to the white page with the two options again. This time press sync.
That's it. I'm not sure what makes this work since sometimes it doesn't. If you're hasn't updated with the voicemail section, try power cycling and relaunching dialer. If that doesn't work, clear the cache. If it still doesn't work you can try clearing all data, Force closing, and then following the steps again.
Now you should have the voicemails tab. It will try and activate for a while by sending you a provisioning text. It is going to send this text alot at first so be warned as I don't know if it's a free text (do people still have limited texts??)
You will now have a bit more options in your settings menu under Voicemail, however since it never provisions (or at least mine doesn't) the added options are not accessible.
Enjoy your extra tab of nothingness lol.
Feel free to throw around some thanks
*edit: The 9 attached screenshots are basically all of the steps in order except for the last two which need to be swapped. If you read them left to right you would follow 1-7, then pic 9, then pic 8 would be the last one.

Oops. And one pic was missing, second to last step. Will update into first post later... See below.

I noticed in your screenshot you never blacked out the 40.
Is that part of your phone number? Or did it load that and you entered your number with it?

I will just say I've only gotten it fully working on the US998 roms (I haven't tried the steps here yet). So it's very possible some carrier branded roms have stuff that mess with apps accessing voicemails, at least ones that use the carrier's database, not 3rd party ones with their own servers like youmail or Google voice. Maybe because some carriers charge for any kind of visual voicemail. Verizon does for the premium transcribing version. Just my 2 cents. I'll see if following this stuff helps me get it working on the vs996 rom I'm on now and report back if I do.

Phone number.
Curious, Where did you get your port info?
Also, noted that your preloaded part of the VVM ends with CVVM while mine is Omtp. Possibly because tmo supports vvm and Sprint is carrier blocked to their own severs???
Have you received some activation texts since reconfiguring? And have any Voicemails loaded?

Since you mentioned Google Voice, I figured it would be a good chance to start the conversation about GV, Sprint, a possible VVM workaround, and a theory I have....
I am sure that someone out there has to know the proper info/settings/specs that would allow us to bypass carrier VM and instead pull from Google Voices VVM service. Or at least I think we can all figure it out through some trial and error.
Right now I have all of my missed calls sent to GV. This allows me to ignore Sprints annoying VM service and paid VVM. All calls bypass sprints VM and instead the message gets transcribed by GVs VVM service. There must be a way to find out what GV ports and packages need to be set and in place in order to tell the dialer to read from there. I've already tried inputting my GV number instead of my Sprint # but all that does is change where the activation texts are sent.
From what I can tell, the Google dialer does not have some VVM server of it's own that it can call on. Nothing in the manifests or code that I could find. It basically only has the ability to piggy back off of a carriers server and relay it into the app as a duplicate (think pop3 / imap).
I believe this is the case because I've seen people post that their dialer absorbed all of their current VVMs but wouldn't find new ones. This probably means that the app is pointed to the place that Vvm are stored either on the device on their carriers server, but they won't get new ones because the app is not authenticated pull data.
So if we can find someone whose Google Dialer pulled in their current batch of VVM and see what their settings look like, we can see what it's pointed at in order to read that data one time and transfer it in. If we can figure out the corresponding file in the GV app, then we ate half way there!
If we can then take that info, and combine it with some knowledge of GV/Google/ and their usual servers ports etc. I think we can create a work around that would allow everyone to get free VVM by setting up a dummy (or real like in my case) Google voice number to use its transcription service instead of the carrier.
Side note for anyone who wants to hear my little conspiracy theory....
Sprint until very recently let you integrate a Google voice account. It's slightly different than just having the Google voice app. Not going to go through all the differences, but basically it was possible to have you GV # carrier integrated until recently.
I think the reason Sprint no longer does this is because Google's VVM rollout. I.e. if GV was still integrated, a quick change of the settings above and it would have properly activated Google's VVM service to work instead of the Sprint version.

I know with a custom ROM on T-Mobile, the visual voicemail in the Google phone app works with no issues.
Also found this. Any ideas?

Interesting. Just so we can start to trial and error our way to a better world, would you mind sharing a couple details? I may ask everyone to answer a few of these and see if we can start to work our way through this and get to some working versions.
Your Carrier:
Current Carrier VVM status: (i.e do you already have a vvm app o your phone that works, do you pay for it, is it the stock carrier app, etc.)
Since you did the GDialer Configuration Update(the steps in post 1)...
Is your Google Dialer VVM working now?
Have you received provisioning texts? No (you already answered this one)
If you already had a VVM service, did you have transcribed messages in your carrier VVM app?
If yes, did they transfer into your Google Dialer VVM tab?

Good find! I would venture a guess and say that you found something useful there.
Since it looks like that grayed out image is pointing to your TMO VVM box, I would suggest using the two ports listed there and trying them in the Google Dialer Configuration. Meaning the 443 and 8082 #s. I am not sure which is which, but if you try them both maybe it will point the dialer at the stored VVM data.

Hopefully some more people will post their configurations and we can make some progress. Thanks for trying.
