[Q] Any good kernel for CM11 Captivate? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I'm using a CM11 M12 with stock kernel, the problem is, the stock kernel is doomed with few features. I badly need a kernel with more RAM, fast charge capable, battery life eXtender, things like those. Thanks in advance

[Q] Best AOSP Kernel for Battery Life?

i'm running CM7 #51 and i was just wondering what the best kernel for battery life would be.
You could probably try invisblek #21 or #28, your sd card might stop mounting after you flash a different kernel.

The only other kernel made for gingerbread that I know of besides the stock kernel, which is already awesome thanks to slayher, is Tiamat.

[Q] Is there a better kernel for CM9 ICS?

Hi guys,
What kernel are you using for your galaxy S CM9 ICS? any suggestions? Im using the build 13 kernel but the battery is draining too fast so i want to change it. Does anyone know other kernel for Galaxy S CM9 ICS?
Thanks =)
I'm using Devil kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445214 for me it works quite well with deepidle and a little oc.
But in general ICS doesn't have a very good battery life yet.

Kernel/battery issue!

My 2x sometimes overheat and reboot and the battery drain very fast...So I want to know if I install a new kernel I have to do a full wipe...What kernel you my friends prefer to solve the overheat and drain problem? Thanks a lot! Sorry for my bad english!
Please someone help me with this
no need for fully wipe just flash it and use it
use temasek OC kernel it works really well if you use cm7 you can use it
I have the etana kernel.
Temasek kernel drains my battery.
I use the stock rom because I'm little afraid of mess with my phone again...So you guys can tell me one kernel to use with stock rom 2.3.4?
You can try HP Extreme Supersonic 12 Kernel. I'm using it with stock 2.3.4 rom. Awesome!
ciwek90 the battery is going well? And how it go with games?
lg 2x heavily drained battery when in 3g mode or gaming. This is because of hardware issue. temasek or etana kernel work great n decent battery life given limited oc.
Their standby mode battery life is wonderful
+1 for latest etana kernel! Far the best until now!
But can I use etana on stock rom?To install I need do a full wipe?

[Q] Best battery efficient cm10 kernel?

ROM & Kernels ?

I am newbie so please forgive me, Can some one please explain to me what a kernel is and why it matter?
Also say for example I install Werewolf CM10.1 ROM does the kernel also change to WerewolfJB automatically?

Yes because CM Roms run on different kernels and cant be used on stock or stock based kernels. And wise versa. And Kernels are...well not sure how to explain it. Let me try it. Is basically like a transmission. So better the transmission is so better runs and shifts the car. That's basically on a phone the same. Yes the processor is important but the kernel is what makes everything run like it should. I installed a costum kernel because the original one was so bad in battery life and this costum kernel is much better optimized. No more 10 or more % battery drain in standby in an hour. Battery life was pretty terrible on this phone now it is like a fully new phone with ok battery life.

The kernel is the core-engine all other software runs on. To make an analogy with a car:
The chassis of the car is the phone, the engine is the kernel and the body is the ROM. This is not a very accurate analogy, but I hope you get the point.
Different kernels focus on different keypoints. Some are very battery-friendly, some favor performance, some offer extra functionality to the system, etc..So there is not a one-size-fits-all perfect kernel.
ROM's are usually based on a certain structure, which the kernel has to support. So for a stock ROM you need a different kernel then for a CM ROM. Most ROM come complete with a kernel, a few don't. So if you flash a ROM which contains it's own kernel you overwrite the kernel that is on your phone. So let's say you've got the Optimus Prime kernel and then install the latest CM build, you overwrite your OP kernel and have to re-flash it after installing the ROM to get it back.In your case the Werewolf CM10.1 ROM comes complete with the Werewolf kernel.
Hope this answers your questions.
