Freezes, reboot and other funky things - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Sorry for my bad English
Hello friends of the forum, I present my problem. I was given to repair a S3 LTE really is driving me crazy. We'll explain: the owner did filth with ROM to the point to make it unusable. Turns on, but after a while it stops and turns itself off. I tried to flash the stock, wipe system etc .. from recovery and put back the stock, but every time I turn on the phone and get to the Initial Setup (the one that says Samsung GALAXY which allows choosing the language) crashes and off. Also known that the recovery is very very slow (both TWRP that stock that cwm). I managed to flash rom 2 including Cyanogenmod but this crashes. Sometimes the poor cell can not even start that hangs on and off. I tried to replace the battery with one that I already had and the situation does not change. I wanted to try to do an update of the bootloader because I think the problem is the. Further inform you that when it crashes but is charging if I remove the battery on the phone stays on but completely locked and I can not even press the power button for 3 seconds, because it is completely freezed. Another observation I have noticed is that if I leave him in charge when switched off the led solid red, the screen shows no signs of life and if the detachment micro usb LED remains lit sign that is completely blocked even when it is charging (WHILE TURNED OFF!). I hope you can help. I tried everything

Maybe it's power button problem.Check the power On/Off .

Captivate Doesn't Boot Properly

My phone has be working fine until it ran out of battery and now doesn't boot properly. I have fully charged the battery overnight but it still not functioning. It appears to boot, vibrates several times in a sequence(buzz---------------------buz-buzz-buzz). Sometimes it repeats this in a loop. I get the login screen briefly and can unlock, but the apps are frozen, or will open then screen goes black and I can't turn on the display. The nav buttons stay lighted. I've removed the battery several times but same result. Sometimes when I hold down the display button I get the
I rooted the phone weeks ago and running stock froyo -- no other changes and no recent changes so this doesn't make any sense other than a hardware failure.. possibly the internal SD. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Something like that happened to my friend's vibrant. His phone was completely stock - no root, no custom rom. One day it just decided to start going in to boot loops for no apparent reason. Battery pulls didn't help. He tried doing a factory reset from recovery and ended up in even worse shape.. The phone would boot into some debug screen and just die there. We figured it was probably some hardware problem, took it back to T-mo and got a replacement.
All of the buzzing was different things force closing, I would flash back to stock. And see if it still does it. Also this is not development related so I will move it over the Q&A
I was able to disable gps when the phone had a brief moment of clarity. Once I did that it stopped having spasms, so possibly a bad gps??
Did a factory reset and the phone is back to normal

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 won't work if not plugged on external power source

Hi guys,
The following problem has taken me litterally DAYS of reading XDA, trying everything I could, but still no solution. Googling and searching this forum didn't help either, and it's totally weird.
It's a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000, on which were installed, almost two years ago, the ClockWorkMod recovery, Darky's ROM, Froyo, and everything was fine for months. Then, one day, out of nowhere, it switched off, without notice. Impossible to switch it on again! I remembered having seen some strange battery behavior few days before, like falling from 80% to 30% with no reason, so I thought of a battery issue. I plugged it for a full night. In the morning, I was able to boot it, but not easily, and all apps were crashing: during boot, or when launched manually. Yes, all I tried were crashing! Then, the phone became fully not bootable: press the power button, the screen shows "Samsung GT-I9000", then switches off...
I ordered a new battery: same result.
A guy from a phone repair store told me to plug the phone, and keep the power button down for 2 minutes: after this, I could reboot the phone, and thus, wipe data (factory reset). But it didn't help.
After "playing" a bit with it, I realized that the problem is:
the phone won't boot if an external source of power is not connected (as said above, white text shows, then the phone "dies")
if started with power cord/usb, the phone will work fine, all the time
if started with power cord/usb, and the external power source removed once the phone is booted, the phone will work fine, UNTIL the screen goes black for power saving mode or by pressing pwoer button, after which, within seconds, you can't open the phone anymore. I mean: if you press the start/power button immediately after the screen goes black, the screen goes on again, and the phone is ok. If you wait for few seconds, it's over, you can't do anything, and have to reboot the phone. This said, the phone doesn't vibrate, so I suppose it's not really off. But then... what is this state??
I really tried my best: updated to GB2.3.6, bricked my phone trying to re-install the CWM and having a bootloop, installed and used Odin and Heimdall, reverted to stock kernel, etc, etc, etc.
I feel sorry to bother you guys, I was really convinced that with the incredibly huge amount of data, how-tos, explanations, etc. I would manage to get rid of this, but this problem, though I don't really think it's hardware (but maybe it is?) stayed across so many kernels, roms, etc. that it's killing me!
For the record:
Model number: GT-I9000
Micro-software (?): 2.3.6
Baseband: I9000XXJW4
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJW7-CL1125830 [email protected] #2 (problem was the same with [email protected] #2)
Version number: GINGERBREAD.XXJW4
Any help would be greatly appreciated, considering that a wireless phone that needs to be wired is a little bit of an issue...
Thanks in advance !

That's a very strange problem... let's try something, remove the battery, sim card and sd card and hold the power button for 1-2 minutes, btw when the screen is off, is really the phone off or just the screen? did you try to make a call to your phone when the screen is off?

Hi timberman thanks for the answer!
You're very right: I totally forgot to say that what initially allowed me to restart my phone "regularly" was this procedure of pressing the power button for 2 minutes (hint given by a man from a repair shop). Before this, I couldn't (kind of a bootloop).
It's a very good question! I don't think the phone is really off in fact, because there isn't this vibration saying the phone turned off... Let me try to call it!
F..k! I was redirected right away to the voicemail... so... phone was off
I'm starting to think it's an harware issue... I reinstalled lots of ROMs, kernel, etc. Same ****...
Any idea?

Hi! Answering is already nice
I tried the button pressed for 2 minutes without battery: didn't change anything.
I tried playing a sound: MAN, YOU'RE A GENIUS!!! Launching the music, then forcing the screen off with power button lets the music play, and OF COURSE, I can reactivate the screen by pressing the home button. The screen goes off normally again after few seconds, but the music is still playing, etc. So, as long as the music goes, the bug doesn't happen!
Other hints:
For some time already, when I was removing the phone from my ear after a call, quite often, the screen was staying off, and I had to press a lot of buttons to have it on again, and be able to close the call
The moment where it crashes when booting without power is the very INSTANT where the initial white text (Samsung Galaxy S) goes brighter. So, if you unplug the power cord just after this, the boot ends normally. In summary, something happens at boot just after screen brightness changes which is the same thing happening when the screen goes off for power saving. All this, only when no external power is plugged.
Hehe, we (you) are making progress

Hi again, it seems like your phone is unable to exit the deep sleep mode or something like that so, let`s try another thing, in ICS or JB there´s an option in the developer option settings that unfortunately is not present in gingerbread roms, so, you can try to switch to a ICS/JB rom and go to settings-developer options and disable the "PM sleep mode" let`s see what happens then

I tried to install ICS, with a GREAT tutorial found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493 Sadly, the phone reboots after installing the ICS kernel, and then doesn't work anymore, I had to reinstall the Gingerbread (I tried twice).
Last news: I let the phone play music (sound muted!!) for about 12 or 18h: all was fine! So I decided to pause the music, and see what happens. Boom ((c) Steve Jobs)!! The screen went black, and phone was "dead". I was expecting this, so no panick, I put back my SIM card, my SD card, and tried to reboot, with power cord plugged: it boots until the screen shows the small loader animation, then the empty battery image, but then goes black again, instead of showing the charging battery!! Download mode is still available, so I'll try to reflash the kernel, say.
It's like if each time screen was put black, phone was dying.
I can't stress enough how I appreciate your help: even if we can't save my phone, it's very pleasant to be able to TRY things. Thanks man!! :good:
Update: I reinstalled all... and it's not, even with power cord in, going further than the "Samsung Galaxy S" white text. The moment this picture disappears from screen, phone is dead. For good this time ?

Hi! No, I didn't, I used Odin. But now, I can't try anything anymore The only "results" I can get from this phone are:
- enter download mode and update from Odin (maybe from Heimdall, too, but I didn't check)
- reboot until the first moment the screen goes black, after which, the phone becomes fully unresponsive

[Q] Galaxy S3 GT-I9305 Boot loop problem.

Hi all.
So my girlfriends S3 started something weird this morning.
Last night the battery ran flat, so obviously it was put on to charge. The phone was off while charging, but, instead of the constant icon of a battery charging, the icon would come up and disappear, and reappear, and never become fuller.
When we tried to start it up this morning, the Samsung GT-I9305 screen would come on, and then just disappear and reappear, same as the battery icon.
The phone has not been rooted, no custom roms have ever been attempted, it is as stock as the day we opened the box.
First we tried leaving the battery out for about 30 mins, same would still happen.
Then I removed toe sd and sim card, removed the battery, and tried starting with and without the sim card. The sd card has not been put back. Same thing would still happen.
After some searching, I tried getting into recovery mode by pressing and holding power, volume up and the home key. This worked once, where I chose the restart device option first, but since then I cannot get the recovery mode back again.
I read something about a 'safe mode' by pressing power, home and volume down. This gets me to a screen where I am asked if I want to continue, by pressing the volume up key, but no matter what I press, the device just goes back to the GT-I9305 screen looping.
I wonder if maybe trying a different battery would help?
Any other suggestions on how I could factory reset the device?

screen wont turn back on unless above 85% battery

I have a G800F,
If my phone is below 85% and id turn of the screen, it wont turn back unless its back charged atleast 85% then everything works fine, I can use my phone till 0% if i dont turn off the screen, when the screen is off everything still works (i can hear it reacting when i press on the screen etc.
Tried different batterys but nothing changes.
Also my menu and back button wont work permanently no matter the battery percentage, the lights dont even turn on (sometimes it flickers) but my home button works.
Tried googling for answers but it seems i'm the only person with this problem.

Sorry for Late response, but in this S5Mini forum nobody wants to help.
I think you should do this:
-Go to recovery mode and look if screen goes black after some time.
If
Yes: Bring to repair
No: Install a custom Rom and / or try wiping Userdata.
Hope it works! Have a nice day.
I have a couple problems myself with the G800Y variant, whenever my phone switches off (shows the idle screen with green battery and %) I always seem to struggle to turn it on. My fix for this however is to:
1. Unplug charger (regardless of state unless like dead or something)
2. Perform the key combo to enter download mode/reset the phone: [POWER] + [HOME] + [VOL-DOWN]
3. Hold until you see something (the logo, the S5 Mini or the CM/LineageOS variant I'm using appears to take some time to perform the download mode entry) THEN release. If it hits download mode, simply cancel/use [RESET] key combo (above) to exit and the phone will automatically attempt to reboot.
As an alternative, pluck the battery out and chuck her back in, seems to be the charger initiating that little animation which causes a block on user input, or something similar, hope this helped

[HELP] Black screen randomly, have to hold power button to restart

Hi
So my phone has randomly started to die about once every other day. Screen goes black (i have always on screen) and no response from any of the buttons (power button, twice volume down button for camera). I have to hold the power button until it restarts/starts (don't know if it is dead or not). Anyone else has this issue? Only wierd apps that i havent hade before is blockada.
BR
Baddar
Troubleshoot it.
Delete the app and see if it still happens. If it does, flash a raw firmware and completely wipe your device. if it still continues, its a hardware issue and you should exchange the device.

You're in custom or stock rom?
Im on stock with no modifications.
Phone auto shuts down
Did you find any solution same thing started to happen with me twice in 2 days
The way I fixed it... go to settings, Security & Lock Screen, click on the gear icon next to screen lock, then choose the first option Automatically lock, choose "Immediately" any thing other than that causes the screen to go black. I hope it works!
@Ahmed_x this didnt work for me.
So today i was about to miss my international flight because of this stupid phone deciding to die on me while on charging so no alarm went off.
Wtf is wrong with Asus? How could this have gotten worst with the new update. Are their developers ret**ded?
This phone is being returned unfortunately. Awesome phone but if u cant trust it to give a simple thing as alarm whats the point.
It happened to me twice in three months. The smartphone got stuck/freeze in standby mode: no response from the physical buttons or touch. I use the official android 9 rom.
I managed to restart it with the power button and volume up pressed for 15 seconds.
I hope that with android 10 this will never happen again.
Happened to me today, had to hold volume-down + power for about 10-15s to get it back.
very strange using latest firmware too (WW_Phone-17.0230.2004.60)
[HELP] My ROG Phone always turn off suddenly when charge
Please HELP My ROG Phone 2.
It's been more than a month if the charge will turn off unexpectedly. This situation is experienced until today. So that every time I charge, phone must be in the dead state. I've been very frustrated. Already doing factory data reset, only lasts for one week and back like that again.
Worse, in certain circumstances the handphone suddenly dead and hard to be turned on again. When charging the battery, sometimes the phone likes to not fill. I had to unplug and re-plug the charging cable to return it to normal. Its sucks. I bought this phone in a new condition with the official warranty on January. I already did update to Android 10 when available by the system. This issue occurs after the update.
I had thought the charger that I got from the factory was problematic, until I decided to buy a new charger with the original quality with 30watt power. But it turns out the same.
Same here my phone will turn off while charging. And it will keep rebooting. Sometimes my rog will not charge
My ASUS ROG2 is starting ti piss me iff noe.. Everything I play BR in CODM alwaiz black out..every single game black out. This is not good...Is this normal? Every game has to black out?...
