Wi-Fi hotspot not working - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I try to enable the Wi-Fi hotspot, it does not create the hotspot when I am on EDGE.
If I am on 3G or 4G the Wi-Fi hotspot used to work normally.
I have recently expired my data cap on Vivo Brazil, but I still have conectivity, but the Wi-Fi hotspot has stopped working.
The Wi-Fi hotspot should work even if I have a low bandwidth, since I need to share my connection, even if is low.
It happens on Android 4.4.4 and 5.0.

[Q] No data when wifi hotspot is on

Hi all,
I have the international version of HTC One.
My 3G data works well. However, as soon as I create a wifi hotspot, the phone disconnects from the internet (the data icon disappears from the notification bar).
As soon as I disable the hotspot, I go back online.
Has anyone experienced this issue?
Thanks!

[Q] Wi-Fi Issues on Galaxy Note 3

Wi-Fi will not work unless I turn off my mobile data. I didn't have an issue with this prior to the update, is there a fix?
It seems to prefer 3G/4G for the initial connection, but it I turn data off, connect to my router, then turn data back on, everything works fine. The Data ON-OFF widget makes that easy.
You don't have the option checked in WiFi settings that says automatically switch between WiFi and cellular do you?

WiFi and WiFi calling to turn on/off simultaniously

Is there a way to have WiFi calling turning on automatically if the phone connect to WiFi and have it turn off when the WiFi connection is lost?
I read something in the S5 thread about changing some settings by use of ROM Toolbox, unfortunately it breaks the link to the WiFi calling app. Besides, it didn't seem to work on my m8 hk stock.

Wifi do not switch to better signal

I use wifi network with repeater at home.
OOS 5.0.1, now with original kernel.
wifi refuses to switch automatically to better signal when going from one room to another.
Even when there is no signal at all, wifi stays on channel.
Previously it was working well, but with 5.0.1 not working?
I have to manually switch wifi off and on again to get best wifi connection.
Is this normal behavior of 5.0.1, or something wrong with my settings?
Thanks for advice.

Enable hotspot with WiFi remaining on disabled after update

Hi All, I have an Exynos Note 8 SM-N950F. I have finally updated the software to android 9.0, and now whenever I turn on the hotspot, it disables WiFi.
Can anyone point me to a rom or fix to enable both WiFi and hotspot, so I can share my WiFi connection with the hotspot? If not, I assume I have to install the stock 8.0 rom for the SM-N950F?
I'm not sure that's possible. By enabling hotspot, your phone becomes the local wifi for the devices you want to share it with using your data. If you are receiving wifi from somewhere, why cant the other devices you want to use just use that wifi as well? If wifi is available to your phone, I'm not understanding why you have to activate hotspot to provide wifi to other devices when they could just obtain wifi from the same place your phone is getting it from already.

Thank you for the reply! I didn't believe so as well, but at least the Exynos Note 8 had this ability. I could hypothetically be on a plane, join the paid WiFi, and share the connection to my laptop. I used it to join a VPN on my phone, and share with my laptop. I also used it as a network extender while traveling; I'd place my phone in the area that got the best WiFi signal, and use it as a repeater for my laptop. IDK if this is a general android 9.0 disabling, or specific to Samsung, but I need this feature on my phone. The note 8 was close to perfect, except for these software limitations, including the slow charging bug. I specifically imported the Exynos version when I bought it so I could roll back the software if I had to.
Ah , ok that makes sense..
