Seems like no one in this forum knows about it so I'll ask my question here.
For me it doesn't work, can someone confirm? Or are there ways to make media utilities run properly under 5.0?
Media utilities is a no go, Not yet at least. Zooper pro works with some launchers but not all.
Its hit and miss... Enable notification access than in zooper make sure direct control and alternative data collection are selected.. Track, artist, and album text works... Album art does not unless you uncheck alternative data collection... But then the other stuff is broken.

I'm a bit late to the discussion but have (kind of) managed a workaround for this.
Download "Jacks Music Widget' and use the smallest music widget, which I think is 4x1.
Resize this widget using Nova, this effectively hides all the music controls and gives you a full size album art.
From there add your Zoopers on top.
I have this set up and it works great. Probably even better as Jacks music widget changes the artwork almost immediately and you have the added benefit of it not clogging up your Gallery, which MediaUtilities does.
You could just use Jacks Music widget tbh, but if your like me and need to personalise everything about your phone then its a little workaround that works.
I've attached a screen showing you my set up

Thank you both for the information! I'll give both methods a try.
Side note: Why aren't there more complaints of this problem?
Do only a small amount of people use Media Utilities with Zooper??? (unlikely)
Are only a small amount of people on Lollipop?
Is there an alternative program that folks are using with Zooper/Lollipop???
If you really need the functionality and arent attached to a launcher you could use themer which has MU built in, the same devs as MU, they've pretty much focused all their efforts on themer.

Thank you for the suggestion... :good:
Themer
The only problem with themer is that it kills my battery.
is it possible to turn off the Media Utilities notification in the drop-down window in Lollipop?
says "Zooper counts monitor active"....really wanna remove it from the dropdown.
Thanks.

Didn't see anything about this on here, so I thought I would let everyone know that flyscreen hit the market today. If you don't know what it is, the app is a locksreen replacement which boasts a number of useful widgets. It's free, so check it out.
well done app!
tweaks i'd personally like to see
1. accuweather edit to enable "current location" along with search city or zip
2. changeable wallpaper?
3. custom color for the bottom status bar.
4. it seems pressing menu OR home unlocks the app. maybe just keep it as only MENU unlocks?
5. would LOVE a fully-functional local music widget. even a streaming one. preferably last.fm
6. it's hard to double-tap to unlock the screen when on the calendar widget.
that's all for now. again great job!
Can't find it on the market. Can anyone upload a .apk for me please?
just downloaded and installed.....love it!

are you serious? just search the market for flyscreen
Anyone have any luck getting the Facebook widget? It says to go to www.myflyscreen.com when I try to add it, but there's not really any mention of it on the website.
EDIT: Nevermind, it turns out you have to login.
this seems legit!
I've tried it but I'm not a fan of flyscreen,
the feed summary stories are so short its not worth reading them and
it is hard to unlock.
I much prefer "buzz deck", kind of similar concept with the flicking between cards but it
works much better for the feeds.
but I guess if you use just the weather and messages widget then this is pretty good
i think it would be a lot better if the added a lock, something other then just pushing the menu button
I love it, but the stericson lock screen is still popping up occasionally... How do I completely remove stericson?
(Using CM 4.0.4)
its not on the market!!! I searched like 4 times and it cant find it.... wtf?
http://www.myflyscreen.com/
You can dl it from here
I like it ok...
But, I was under the impression I would be able to use widgets installed on my phone.
I can't - I have to use widgets that flyscreen has... And, their calendar widget is not interactive (can't open my calendar with it or see my appt's), there is no Gmail/Email widget, and I can't use my own weather widget instead of theirs.
Since I don't really want to use any widgets they have... It sorta makes the app pointless. If I wanted to use a widget they have I would have downloaded/installed it already!
I had this during the beta invite and liked it a lot then and the final revision is not dissapointing. I agree, custom backgrounds and missed call, sms etc. notifications are needed though.
bump
any ideas on removing stericson lock?
Installed it. One of the best app on the market easily. Running weather, facebook and 2 custom RSS feeds. Its kinda laggy and slow. And it also it takes sometime to kick in when you wake the phone up. It shows the home screen for a sec before flyscreen lockscreen appears. This is the major issue. Can be fixed with further optisations. Minor annoyances are the wallpaper. Missed call register and music widget wont hurt either. But still, great app!
This app makes any rom awesomeness. If they can get all the social networks on this app, who needs blur? Has a lot of potential.
Been using the beta for quite some time, uninstalled because of slow performance...
the release version is much more stable, really happy with it all I want is to be able to install and create skins and wallpapers
Really nice concept. Good first release. However, like others have said:
1. Needs configurable wallpaper (my gf called me gay...she would know)
2. Causes great lag returning to homescreen, whereas before flyscreen, return was instant.
I'm a little thrown off by having to give my phone# on registration but I guess that just creates a unique username. Very cool idea, I wish I could customize the background and the alignment looks a little off on the bottom (not quite centered)
Very cool. I'm looking forward to more updates from this app!
After the putchase, it was installed, and when I go to select widgets, not all of the widgets are there. No clock, no weather, not sure how many I am supposed to have.
I decided maybe I need to uninstall/reinstall. Went to market, there was no 'reinstall' option. So I went into Settings/Applications/Manage Apps. and uninstalled. Got message I had a refund.
I presume I got the correct app, as it showed the right company in the Google Checkout.
What should be the right process to get this installed, especially if something is wrong.
One thing I find quite interesting with apps for Android: looks like no way to contact many of the sellers. For this for example I went to their web site, didn't see any support or method to contact them.
This app had downloadble widgets which means not all of them come installed with it.
Further research shows that many users have trouble with this app ranging from issues like yours to battery problems.
The website for the app says that you can contact them through email from the android market. if this is not the case, I would abandon this app on that basis alone lol.
poppycock app works fine on my n1 and my galaxy s.. once installed all widgets are there you only have to download skins for weather and clock.
try downloading with wifi on.. it is much faster.

Thanks for the input, but they are not there 'once installed', if then you have to 'download skins for weather and clock'. Seems to me a clock should be a widget, not a skin. On the site, which has all of 1 page talking of features, they mention things about skins, and downloading skin kits. That implies development to me.
I went to the Market online, but that, interestingly enough, you can't even search on. On thes web site, interestingly enough, NO method to contact them there. But thanks to your tip, I do see an email address on the Market from the phone.
This is quite an interesting learning experience.
The web site that is on the Market is not reachable. Maybe trouble tonight.
I'll try the email route and see if I can learn a bit more about what I need to get this stuff working.
there are 100s of custom clock skins they cannot possibly put them all with the app it would be huge.. you add the beautifull home widget under under skins download and select the clock you want..
The widget name you want is called Beautiful Home, and when you pick that one it opens up a settings box. Down at the bottom it "save and apply." You gotta hit that button to actually put the widget on the screen. If you hit skins instead you can choose what you want, but you have to apply each time as you back out of the settings interface to make the widget "stick". Small learning curve. Once the widget is up, you can hit the weather to see the big weather popup, and hitting the menu button there brings up settings and skin buttons.
This is my favorite widget, the most reliable. I have submitted skins that were accepted, so I know they are responsive. If you still need help let me know.
Thank you so much for the details. You'd think an app that is at a cost, however small, would have at least a base level of documentation on their web page.
Question: Is Beautiful Home a different set than Beautiful Widgets, or is it just required in order to use Beautiful Widgets?

Beautiful Home is the name of the clock/weather widget that comes with Beautiful Widgets.
Thanks. I got it going.
I was thinking that a 'Home' Widget was a replacement for the home screen or something like that. Its beginning to look like a home widget must be a widget that can be placed on any screen, and is 'home' to other things you will be adding, as opposed to replacing some other home widget. Is that the case in general?
How's that for a tongue twister?
I would like to know if you all recommend this app for the Captivate?
Beautiful Widgets + Launcher Pro = Fantastic UI experience
I've been using weather and toggle widget and like it more than beautiful widget but both are nice.

Which Weather Widget and Toggle Widges are you using?
I have Beautiful Widgets along wiht Beautiful Weather LIve Wallpaper, and really like it. But I'm always interested in seeing what's out there.
I just installed another launcher (Action Launcher Pro), so I no longer have access to the HTC widgets. I want a basic music widget with play/pause, next/previous, album art and artist/song name. Basically, something like the stock HTC widget. 4x1 or 4x2 would be ideal sizes.
I have tried:
Plug In Music Widget: Perfect functionality, pretty ugly.
Phantom Music Control: No album art. Also, instead of a pause button, it has a stop button, meaning pressing play after that restarts the song. :-/ Also, it's feature of tapping the widget to open the music app also doesn't work for some reason, it says that it was unable to open the app.
Pure music widget: No previous button on any of the widgets other than the 4x4 one, which is too big.
Anyone got any other suggestions?

Very good imo, not 100% sure if it works on the default HTC player but it works fine on the Google one.

Works perfect on the HTC player. I guess it is better than the previous winner, since it does everything I need.
Ideally, I just need one that looks better because this one is pretty ugly. However, I guess beggars can't be choosers, so if I don't find a better looking one, this is the winner.
Ugly is a very subjective word, what's ugly to you may be beautiful to someone else ... Saying that, I have mine set up with a transparent background and other stuff so that it works well with my wallpaper and screen setup ...

That's not a bad way to implement it. However, you had to put a lot of effort to get that 1 specific look. What I like about some widgets, like the HTC music widget, is that it's very versatile and looks good with just about any scenario.

True, I quite like a minimal look, although for me, there's a lot going on in that screenshot I posted lol .. I agree, the HTC music widget is nice, I'm just not a fan of the background colour, I think all widgets should allow you to change the background.
Hi,
my first post here on XDA forums, so a big hello to you all. I want to create my own music player widget with Kustom Widgets and also wanna add some toggles for
quicksettings etc. As for the quicksettings, i used the notification toggle app, which worked great when installed as a system app, but i wanna control them only from one app, KWGT.
I know there is some issue with direct accessing these toggles from widgets, but thats all i know since i dont even know how these toggle- and media control functions are named.
So i cant even search to get detailed informations. Now when i try to control my music player from KWGT, nothing happens - except when i previously started the music player and press
play and pause one time. After that i can control it with my self made buttons from KWGT. As for the quicksetting toggles, none is working. KWGT is installed as a system app and also has
permission to access player functions and toggles.
So my questions are: How are these controls named excactly and are there any general solutions? Is this issue because of Sony's UI restriction? Just for the record, im using a rooted Z1
locked bootloader with DStrikers Rom 5.1.1.
Thanks in advance!
I've not tested the latest build - but assume nothing has changed - what are people's thoughts on no widgets on the desktop?
For me it's part of the essence of Android - having widgets on the desktop of things I want quick access to, quick buttons, quick news feeds, clocks, music controls etc etc.
Yes I know that you can start the Widget "app" to see them and Remix OS is a move to a desktop experience but surely Widgets could be there and maybe a switch for those that don't want them??

Yeah, I completely agree. I too am really hoping they enable widgets on the desktop instead of the "dashboard style" widgets app they have now. Like Android on mobile, the desktop should allow complete freedom to pin: app shortcuts, folders, and widgets. The joy of having an operating system like Android is making it your own. So fingers crossed they enable complete widget support on the desktop in a future release.
+1 for widgets!
Widgets are in Android forever and it's a step back not to include it (as always they have been, in the desktop screen not in a separated app).
like this widget so much
I too would like to see widgets. I use Google Calender, among others, and the widget looks and presents the information better than the app, which is rather clumbsy when resized. That being said, as my monitor and phone both share a 1080p display, widgets that take up half the screen on my phone would likewise do the same on Remix. Maybe resizing the font, so that the app can be condensed. Jide, is this something that can be done - resizing the fonts, or would this have to be something the app developers would have to start doing?
The Remix mini is the first Android PC, I would hate to see it as the last because there's not enough support from app developers. To me, the Remix mini does put Productivity into the Android market, and I would love to see that supported.
