Hey there. I bought this phone today and I love it. However, I have a couple of couple gripes with it, but am not entirely sure whether it's just with my phone or the Incredible S in general.
First off, the volume buttons appears to be flimsy. I mean, yes, it's very thin and I'm not totally used to it yet, but I've noticed you can moved it from side to side slightly. This is the same for the power button, only not as noticeable.
Secondly, the soft keys. I get that they have an LCD display to make the buttons rotate, but on the search key it seems a lot brighter and a bit blurry, and I'm able to see the rotated magnifying glass underneath the non-rotated button. It's not as bright as the 'standard' non-rotated button, but it is noticeable. When I rotate the phone and the buttons rotate I'm unable to see the non-rotated magnifying glass. This is also the same, though not as bad for the back button.
And finally, the camera. I'm don't know whether this is a software/app/wifi issue, but I tested out Tango and Fring using the front facing camera and the back camera, and called my friend. He has an iPhone 4 and he came through clear. I, on the other hand (according to him at least) came through blocky and 'stuttery', with lots of pauses. Fring was worse, as the sound wasn't good for either of us, but the video seemed poor on my end.
So yeah, are my complaints common to all Incredible S'? If so, then I won't be too bothered, but I'm kinda worrying a bit because I bought the last IS in the shop, and when the salesman opened up the box to show me the phone, it didn't have any of the stickers on, and the screen had fingermarks on. He said that it was brand new, but they had used it to show another customer. I got home and tried turning it on, and there was no charge left in the battery. I looked in the box and all the chargers etc were unopened, though.
So yeah, what do you think?

Yes it is normal for the volume rocker to rock in all directions however don't let it fool you it is very sturdy and longer lasting than the power button. Never had an issue with the volume button however the power button will require more pressure to push over time.
As for the soft keys they do blur out and it all depends what angle your viewing them from.
The. Camera on. The front of the. IncS is a piece of crap only at 1mp, I'm not sure. What the iphones resolution is but I can guarantee that it's high seeing as they advertise video calls.

From my experience with both phone the front facing camera sucks on both the only way to insure video calling works well is with good lighting

Another thing I've just noticed; again, am wondering whether this is same for everyone or just me (after the whole no stickers on the phone thing with fingerprints on the screen), but the micro USB port is kinda loose. If you tap it with your smallest finger, or if the charger is in it and move it slightly, the USB port moves.
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just a bit concerned if I've paid a a fair amount of money for a 'new' phone, when it's not and there's things wrong with it.
Thanks.
Everything seems pretty normal. Bearing in mind it is not a closed case like the iphone series, therefore you have to expect movement with parts of the phone.

My phone. Came the same way dude and yes the usb port moves on all of them it adds a bit of flexibility so it's not as easy to damage.
There is nothing to worry about. There was no plastic on mine and there was finger prints on it. The sales people generally boot them up once to avoid a waiting period when setting up your phone for the first time. They boot them up than shut them down so they can boot up fast using fast boot. The less time waiting for the phones the more time spent selling phones.

Oh okay dude! Thanks for the replies. I think I look for faults when they're not there lol.
So yeah cheers for clearing that up.
When I press(with a bit more force) on the left side I hear creaking noise, is that normal or not?
I don't have raised glass problem.

I have 2 Nexus 7. My Nexus 7 has a minor screen lift, but it's not noticeable. But yea it has the creaking noise near the upper left area. But then again I shouldn't like be putting that much force on the screen so I'm not too worried. My sister's Nexus 7 has no issues with either.
One of the mine did but it seems okay. That's why I think it is the back cover. Because of mine would squeak only if I held it from the back in certain areas. If I held if from another place on the back it wouldn't squeak like holding it from the other side and pushing down then the squeak would be gone. Mine usually would squeak right where the volume of buttons were.
Mine does the same no noticeable screen lift but it will creak if you press too hard on the left side

yes.
on the left side of mine its the screen that is raised and creeks. on the right side i think its the back cover that is causing the creeking
I had the creak, it drove me nuts. My screen didn't lift at all. I returned it for a new one with no creak and no screen lift.

You had to apply not a lot of pressure if it drove you nuts right? And you RMA yours for that single reason?

I bought mine locally at Sam's, so it was just a matter of taking it back to the store. I bought a new one at Staple's first as they got a new shipment in...of only one.
There was enough movement to make me uncomfortable with it. Not only did it creak on that lower left side with some slight pressure, I could also feel movement when I pressed on the lower left of the screen. Not like squishy movement, just a weird shifting noise.
It's as if the case was a little too large or slightly warped somewhere. I didn't have to press very hard at all to make that sound and it did it naturally if I picked it up from the side. I tend to be OCD so something like that is just one of those things I would fixate on. I also had a dead pixel so the combo was enough to take a trip to Sam's to return it and Staple's for a new one. The difference is night and day with the new one though, it feels so much more sturdy without the noises.
I ordered a case to try and ignore it, but that is still on it's way so the return was kind of an impulse. Honestly if your screen is fine otherwise and you aren't OCD like me, it shouldn't be a deal breaker IMO. Unless a swap is easy, but things could always be worse.
Mine does same, no lift but squeaks with little pressure.
This squeak is because of that black tap that you can see once you open your nexus. At least this was the case with me. The sponge on the top of tape presses the tape when you press the device on left side. I fixed it by removing that foam. I am not recommending anyone to do it as that foam must be there for some reason either to cater for the flex in back cover or something but this was driving me crazy so I removed it. Please don't do it because I am saying this as you might have some different problem. This was my problem and this is how I fix it.

Mine has a slight creak but only when I apply a moderate-high amount of pressure at a certain spot, which I don't feel comfortable doing anyway. Haven't taken the back off but not sure if I will tbh, using a case can alleviate some display issues I.e. screen rising and sight creaks.

Mine has a clicking kind of sound on the left side and the glass depress's about 13/100ths of a MM with little to no force and it was an open box. I will bring mine back as soon as I find a store with another one in stock. I also didn't get the 25$ credit on my Google Play account because the person who bought and returned it took the credit...
My main concern is for dust getting under the glass. If the screen has any kind of travel like mine does I can only assume that it may suck some dust in and under the glass in-between the display and the glass. I don't know if the display is fused to the glass like my Gnex.
I've found that taking the back cover off and putting a single, small piece of electrical tape near the edges in the areas that squeek eliminates the creak. If you have creaking in areas other than the left area where there's screen lift, it's most likely caused by the back cover not fitting perfectly against he device. I put some small pieces of electrical tape in the top right corner and along the bottom right side of my Nexus 7, and it has just about eliminated all creaking.
Mine creaked around the edges til I pressed down hard on them to clip it more securely in place. I've no other issues and the screen is great.

My third replacement has creak with no lift at all.

My second Nexus 7 has no screen lift but the power button clicks loudly when depressed about as loud as a typical space bar. Loud enough that others in my office can tell when I turn the screen on. The vol. rocker does not make the same click sound it sounds and works like the first Nexus 7 I owned. I don't think the louder click from the power button is a big deal and will likely get less loud with use.
Hi!
I got my Nexus 7 yesterday and I dont have the raised glass but I have a creaking noise when pressing down the glass on the left side of the tablet. When I press the glass it creaks and after a second or so you here a popping sound. This is the only issue I have with my Nexus 7. You guys think I should return it and get a replacement or is this normal? It only happen when I press down harder than normal.

I have the same problem and am trying to decide if its screen lift or just some weird noise. Advice guys?
Same problem - I've had this issue since I got my Nexus 7 two weeks ago and so far nothing terrible has happened.

Maybe I got lucky, but my phone seems to be just fine!
Mine seems fine too, but I am waiting for my Sim card to ship. Arrives on monday. Hopefully I don't have radio/connection issues.
:crying:
Only problem with mine is the power button rattles. With a case on it doesn't happen though.
The vibration also whistles a little bit, but it just needs setting to 30ms and it will be fine.
Power button has a bit of play if I move my finger over it sideways but only noticed it now after reading the poll, so not really a problem per se.
Perfect unit here
I must be lucky also after hearing about dead pixels and loose vibrator's etc, nothing wrong with my unit what so ever
I get the button rattle if I shake my phone but that's not a normal use case for me.

I tried to rattle my power button and barely hear anything. I tried to see the light leaking and bleeding and once again nothing. I was so paranoid about dead pixels and dust lol that i spent 15 minutes examining and cleaning the screen with a micofiber cloth under a powerful flashlight to see if i found anything and nope. I'm glad to say I got one of the perfect units since I was so paranoid that my 32Gig Stormtrooper was going to have dust under the screen.
Just for people who think they have no faults, might be worth checking with a dead pixel checking app, might surprise you!
Mine actually is fault free.
No dead pixels (I can notice I returned an HTC One for dead pixels).
Vibrator seems solid, no button issues. Very happy with it.
I have a white 16GB, bought on launch day if it matters.
My power button has a little room and rattles a bit when i tip on the screen. But that's the poor mans vibration and thus saves battery, so i don't mind.
Otherwise the Phone is fine.
Mine is fine too! No faults, no problems.
Got it a week ago.

Power button loose but not really rattling...otherwise perfect, so I vote perfect.
First one dead pixels and dust.
Second one vibrator motor and dead pixels
Waiting on third.........

Slight vibration issue but other than that everything is fine.

Bluetooth Quality
The only issue I have with my Nexus 5 is Bluetooth Connection Quality. This issue was persistent from brand new out of the box, and through flashing of custom roms.
With my Nexus 4 I would connect to my speakers in the next room via bluetooth while in the bathroom taking a shower. Connection quality was always perfect. With Nexus 5 it will connect and sound great, but will get the occasional static and distortion you find when going out of range of your bluetooth receiver. The problem is that the distance this is happening over is between 10-15 feet. Never had this problem on the Nexus 4.

Used 2 dead pixel apps and a magnifying glass as well. I was really paranoid lol. Only thing is that the speaker volume actually is low and I'm coming from a Galaxy S2 and I'm disappointed in the speaker quality.
Loose power button but everything else perfect. Not worth RMA'ing for. Slapped a case on the phone and power button now firm and solid.
According to Italian website http://www.nexus-lab.com/2013/12/08/nuovi-nexus-5-differenze/, the N5 will get a slightly revised hardware soon (see pictures on their site).
Cutouts for speaker and microphone are bigger and also buttons are getting a tighter fit. Rattling buttons should hopefully be a thing of the past.
What do you think, will you RMA because of a rattling button once those phones hit the play store?

If this is all there changing then no I won't RMA as there's really noting ring with my phone with a case on the buttons don't rattle and with audio mod the sound is fine for me now if the were to acculy change some thing on the board then ya I probly would
Nope. Iv'e got 2 nexus 5's ( giving 1 to my mom for Christmas, it's time for her to retire her GNEX ) and they both have no problems.

Hoping you just got the phone & you're still within the return time frame.
If so,don't waste another day,the clock is ticking.
Otherwise, you're likely stuck w/what you have, unless you're willing to invest the time in a back & forth w/Samsung or,wherever you bought it from,to get an RMA.
All the buttons should have the same feel/amount of "clickiness",otherwise, the OCD crowd would be in an uproar, rivaling the bad PR surrounding the Note 7.

Still the same, the tightness should be uniform,at least this early in the game.
Think about it:
Have you ever noticed similar on other phones?
Probably not,unless you've moved up from a bargain-basement phone.
If it bothers you, submit an RMA or,just return for another one, with comments doubting the IP68 Rating would hold up w/loose buttons.
