If Verizon doesn't get this for some reason, you'll most likely never be able to.

Verizon phones used to be able to do this, but with changes going on in the networks and different radios now days it is not yet possible on any modern smartphone that I know of until Verizon re-activates the ability.

Hopefully temporary because voice and data work great on my N4.

Im using a Nexus 6 on Verizon and i am able to go on the internet while on a phone call.

verizon has volte enabled in a very few markets. if his volte is enabled, then he can get voice and data over wifi at the same time. volte = voice over lte.

Right but only if he's using wifi (which you can do even without VoLTE). Even in VoLTE markets you can't get voice and data over the air at the same time until they give you the all mighty Advance Calling 1.0 update.

Has anyone added the feature through the Verizon website to see if it works at all? I now have the option of adding Advanced Calling 1.0 to my line with the Nexus 6 but all the other phones say not compatible (Moto X 2013 and iPhone 4)

Yeah I was surprised to see the option for "Advanced Calling" show up, considering the phone shows up as "NON-VZW" device. I tried adding the feature on Verizon's website but it doesn't do anything. You'd have to enable VoLTE on the phone as well, which AFAICT the N6 does not support yet.
I enabled Advanced Calling for my wife's iPhone 6 on Verizon and it worked as advertised -- you can do simultaneous voice and data even when not on wifi. I also had to enable the setting on her iPhone to get it to work (changed some LTE setting from "Data only" to "Voice and Data"). Note the iPhone 6 is listed on Verizon's site as a supported device:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/landingpages/advanced-calling-devices/
Presumably Verizon will add Nexus 6 to the list after they start selling the device. The big question is will Moto and Google purchased devices work as well, or only those purchased from Verizon?

I wonder what's the chance of getting the droid turbo image to run on the Nexus 6?

Ok...well I have a N3 waiting on my N6 and GPS is critical for my driving and travel. Many times I am on phone leaving airport and using my Note 3 to navigate while I talk.
If N6 can't do this I am dead! Google maps need data but if I get a call then I am in trouble.

Actually you should be fine you will need you will need to start your navigation before you take the call but once you start the navigation if you stay to the prescribed route google maps does not need more data try it out start a navigation and turn off mobile data it should work just fine is long as you stay on the route that it tells you it won't be able to redirect.

VoLTE is the same as Avanced Calling 1.0... All markets have Advanced Calling.. Its the software upgrade on the device that is behind.. After the software is available it will allow the feature to be added.. VoLTE will be able to support both voice and data..
Moto X, Turbo and N6 are experiencing the same on the VZ Network

Had this feature on my Verizon G3 and I do miss it. Not a deal breaker by any means for me but still very cool option to have

Yes, as soon as I make a phone call my GPS stopped tracking my progress. When I hang up, tracking resumes.
I have not noticed this with the OG X. I do use GPS and have calls at times.
I wont get my new 2014 X till the 29th
Voice calls and data connection currently don't work together. There's an update planned for "this fall" that will fix it.

Update - it seems like the GPS is still tracking, but my nav app begins searching for the data network to provide additional info (traffic, accidents, etc.).
So, not as big a deal as I thought, but still annoying and seems like a step back from my RAZR M.
not an issue on ATT.

I didn't have the same behavior on my RAZR M that I have with the Moto X. On the X, my navigation app, Waze, begins searching for a connection (though the GPS tracking continues). In addition, a box pops up to warn about the lack of data.
Verizon's CMDA/LTE can't do voice and data at the same time (with the exception of the Rezound and the Thunderbolt), it's a problem with CDMA. GSM networks like AT&T and T-Mobile have no problem with this.

Verizon Advanced Calling 1.0 for Nexus 6

I have yet to switch my Verizon LTE Nano SIM to my Nexus 6 but I was wondering if Advanced Calling 1.0 is functioning, particularly the HD calling feature. Pretty hard to go back ever since having it with my iPhone 6 Plus.

Greetings from the Bay Area. I stuck my Verizon SIM in my T-Mobile Nexus 6 and I couldn't figure out how to tell if HD Voice was working (since it was too early to call my wife), though when I made a call it switched to 1x in the notification bar. That's a bad sign. I'll do some more testing today and report back. I was especially curious about this as I too I find HD Voice to be awesome on my iPhone 6.
-Collin-
if its anything like tmobiles hd calling, which works on the n6 btw, both phones have to have it before it works. if only one of the 2 phones in the conversation has it, it wont work.
VZW user here. I can confirm that all of the advanced features are not working at this time. In fact the phone is not even capable of simultaneous voice and data.
This is true of several new phones on Verizon including the Droid Turbo, which of course is the carrier locked 5.2 inch version of the Nexus 6. In all likelyhood the Nexus 6 will not see VoLTE or simultaneous voice and data unless Verizon finds it in their hearts to get an update to us N6 users that will turn those things on for us.
I knew all this going in but i hold out hope that Verizon will carry the phone, which would mean an update will eventually hit.
However, should they not carry it I will be ok with the phone as is.

the phone is very capable of phone service and data at the same time. and the phone is compatible to volte. on all other providers besides verizon, it can get voice and data at the same time(verizon is cdma and doesnt support it). that said, verizons volte is just starting to make it out. when you get volte in your area, you will be able to make calls and get data at the same time.

odd, ive talked to a few using their lte lines to connect calls over volte.
Until Verizon issues an update for the Nexus 6, the feature won't work, period.
I'm assuming Google will push out an update that enables it if you are using a verizon SIM, but who knows.
Just wait. If it's a feature you need, you'll have to wait until Verizon officially supports the device.

Verizon phones have had data and voice at the same time in the past, but some newer android phones (Nexus 6, Moto X 2014, G3) don't have it, yet. VoLTE is a bit different, but also limited to certain devices.
This article might help a little:

It it software based e.g. is there an .apk on the droid turbo that allows for it to work? or is it on the core android [system] level that needs to be baked in at the time of building the rom? Obviously where I am going with this is if it's something installed, on the droid turbo for example, can we just lift off those files off and work to get it work in AOSP land?
No there isn't. The Turbo doesn't support it yet. Unfortunately you're going to have to be patient.

I have not tested this, but usually "ro.ril.enable.amr.wideband=1" in build.prop does the trick.
Coming from Beans I would Like to Know When they begin building a rom will they be able to port this in from something like the new Droid that has this feature working. I Know the Alliance team has the N6

If the N6 supports volte and we are using it before vzw sales the device directly, is Google able to help us activate this feature? Bc i dont see vzw giving an update to phones that are unrecognized and showing as non vzw devices.
Sooo.... I am wondering if volte support will ever work on those of us who chose not to wait til vzw releases their version of the nexus 6?
May be the price we had to pay to get a non tramp stamped nexus without any carrier customizations and bloat.....

I'm just happy my Nexus 6 hasnt been violated by Verizon. They never got their dirty little hands on it. It's so nice having a phone with No bloatware.
Verizon will eventually carry the Nexus 6 and will eventually send out the Software update which enables VoLTE. I'm not sure if we will get that update? But we shall see what happens

[Q] Verizon Xlte and Verizon volte

Knowing that the nexus 6 include the xlte bands required on Verizon, I assume xlte works on the phone of of the box?
Also, does anyone have information about possibly baking in volte into this phone from looking at other Verizon variants that have volte?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
First one is sort of, need trimmed sim or nano, but it is hard to get the nano activated. I don't really consider this working out of the box
Second one, that is Verizon. We've heard different dates and had photos leaked. It will most likely come, but volte is something on Verizons side, not ours. So you can't do anything about that unless they end up supporting it.
Is the volte options Sim based or ROM/kernel based or both? Anyone know that?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
It is network based option. I'm judging based on what I've seen on my iPhone 6 Plus. The second verizon sent out an email stating they've enabled volte here, I had a new option upon network settings reset.
I have a nexus 6 on the business line and I've been very tempted to use that as a main device. Unfortunately, experience with it on verizon isn't as good as the iPhone. Voice + Data is a big one to me, it also doesn't seem to keep LTE as well in poor coverage areas. Also, verizon is odd... I either have 2 bars or 4 bars of LTE most places. With 2 bars I'm upwards of 60mbps and about 10 with 4. That switching happens most places I'm at. I'm guessing it is due to the bands that they use. On the nexus, anytime this switching happens I have just grey bars and service can be wonky.
Has anyone looked at there options on the Verizon website? I was able to add Advanced Calling 1.0 but I can't figure out how to turn it on on the phone. I rebooted but there are no options for it. I am stock rooted 5.0.1

Where did you find that menu? I logged into my account online and can't find any reference to advanced calling.
For me it is listed as HD Voice on Verizon's Site. To verify on the site I go to Add Change Features --> Manage Your Products --> It should be listed there.
Though as of right now Verizon has not enabled it on their end for this phone. http://www.verizonwireless.com/landingpages/advanced-calling-devices/

I need confirmations about if that is normal not not with my N6?!!

I got my N6 (CW 46Gb) from Moto last Friday. I was amazed and exciting at the beginning. However, now I started noticing things that I am not sure if all Nexuses are like that or just mine. FYI, N6 rooted and unlocked bootloader on stock.
1. WiFi will not connect very quick. It will keep trying with "Authentication Problem" couple of times until it connects. It will take a while until it connects.
2. I can't use data mobile while I am on a phone call. I am with Verizon and I do have LTE in my area. I know for fact that I can do that because I used to do it my Galaxy Nexus and S4. (screenshot attached from N6)
3. call sound: the other end sound like "muffle" or "hollow" I don't know how to describe it, but it is not normal and not pure.
Any feedback or inputs would be helpful.
Thanks,
1. i personally dont have an issue
2. first off, you cant use both data and phone calls on verizon, its a cdma carrier. now the possibility exists to use data and voice on verizon, with lte, and only if they rolled out Volte into your area. if not, you can not have both voice and data on verizon.
3. sounds perfect here, and especially awesome when im connected via tmobiles hd calling.

only if verizon rolled out volte in your area. and they just started at the end of this summer. without volte, its impossible to have voice and data on lte, for any network. if using a lte phone on tmobile or att(gsm networks), when you make a phone call when on lte, the signal drops to hspa or 3g automatically. as voice calls cant go through lte when not on volte. there is one exception, if you are making an internet phonecall(that doesnt need a phone line).

There are only some phones that can use voice and data on Verizon without volte and only because those phones have 2 radios, I can use voice and data on my note 4 but my wife cannot use it on her turbo. The nexus cannot use voice and data without volte.

yours makes more since. Now, have you tried N6 on Verizon LTE and didn't work like Turbo?
Edit: never mind, from Reddit "This was known. Droid Life's test showed no data while on call. There will be an update that will enable VoLTE on carriers that support it, when that goes out, LTE will work while on call on supported towers."
So, it is a matter of time.

Just the opposite for me. 5.0.1 seems to have caused it, plus connecting to data at boot up seems to take a lot longer
OK so, I don't understand. From Motorola's page:
Americas Model (XT1103)
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
CDMA (800, 1900, secondary 800 MHz)
WCDMA (1, 2, 4, 5, 8)
LTE (2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 29, 41)
CA DL (B2-B13, B2-B17, B2-29, B4-B5, B4-B13, B4-B17, B4-B29)
It says "secondary 800MHz". I know I have the 1103 model, I have the box. Why on earth can the device not use the "secondary 800MHz" to make the call??
Usually the carriers roll out an update to your phone which will allow you to use data while calling. At least that is my impression of big red. I haven't had Verizon in a while so I don't remember exactly but I think it has to do with the volte update that should be pushed out to the N6 for carries that support that and WiFi calling.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, the Galaxy Nexus has two radios. Two radios = two connections.
I don't understand how this is still a question. Lol. It has been stated in this forum that the Nexus 6 is still handicapped on Verizon until Verizon rolls out the VoLTE update for it. Until then, the one radio in the Nexus 6 will only use voice OR data at one time, not both. Older phones on Verizon usually always had two radios for simultaneous voice and data. Newer phones will now usually only have one radio, which I personally think is kind of silly.
Can't say whether the muffled and hollow call quality is a bad unit though. Mine sounds clear.
@ataris_kid... I am well aware that the gnex has 2 radios. My comment was made to drive the point home to someone posting in this thread that it wasn't possible; when in fact it is. Just not with the N6 at this point in time. I just hope that volte on vzw doesn't go the way of the pogo pins on this toro gnex with the N6.

[Q] Nexus 6 on Verizon

I got my Nexus 6 from Google Play yesterday YA! i put my SIM in it and bingo 4G and service on Verizon! the one problem is I have no Data when on a phone call, I feel like I just went back a few years in time I'm reading i have to have advanced dialing 1.0 turned on, I was able to find this setting on my Verizon account and turned it on but 24 hours latter still no data when on a call
Thoughts?
Next question. Since I bought this phone outright from Google (ouch on my checking account) I have the freedom to move to any company. Sprint is out of the question since there service in Denver area is real bad. Dose AT&T or T-Mobile support Data and calling at the same time if Verizon dose not work for this?
Advanced calling 1.0 is not yet supported for the nexus 6 even if you turn it on in your account. Have to wait for vzw to enable it for this phone.

Sprint is out of the question since there service in Denver area is real bad. Dose AT&T or T-Mobile support Data and calling at the same time if Verizon dose not work for this?

The Nexus 6 does not support Advanced Calling 1.0 on Verizon (yet). On AT&T and T-Mobile, I have confirmed that it works fine on both. Bummer, huh? But many of the new Android phones do not support this on Verizon (again...yet). Patience is not my greatest virtue, so I'm back to using my iPhone 6 on Verizon and my Nexus 6 on T-Mobile for that reason
Cheers,

It's fine near downtown, but gets crappy the further you go out. Head to the mountains and it's terrible.

Should i try AT&T first?
For Colorado I'd stick with VZW and ATT as they are the two reliable outside the Metro areas. Yeah, I'd try ATT before TMO.

Does anyone know if a specific app or firmware will be needed to be pushed to the phones to get their advanced calling feature, data and voice at the same time? Or, do they flip a switch and it will work already on the unlocked nexus 6? I am concerned that if I buy a job Verizon nexus 6 that it will one day not have a chance of going to me.

A software update will be required in order for VoLTE calling to work. No saying if/when that will happen.

I switched to T-Mobile from ATT and I couldn't be happier. Before that I had Verizon and so far I have no regrets my service is 7x faster then ATT LTE where I live. I tested my wife's S5 on LTE (ATT) it had 5mbs down and 1mbs up. My Nexus 6 on T-Mobile had 40down and 20up. Plus I can still use data while calling and its unlimited. These speeds aren't perfect, but I live in the middle of nowhere.
This should all be resolved once Vzw gets the N6 in stock on the 26th.
