I decided to make a thread on this as I keep seeing people reporting problems with the Samsung branded wireless charger in use with their Note 5 or Galaxy 6+ Edge. I am trying to get an idea of how prevalent this is.
What happens is this, I put the phone on the charger and it lights up showing it is placed appropriately and it charges. It then charges for a time period, and will suddenly stop and the LED blinks blue. This can happen after 1 minute to an hour or so into the charge, to not at all. Often, unplugging the charger and plugging it back in seems to reset it and it works again. Very bizzare. I returned the first charger like this and got a second one, but it does the same thing.
I am wondering if Sammy did this on purpose to get us to buy the rapid wireless charger when it comes out....
Also, I know it is not my Note 5, as my other wireless charger works fine.
Please post your experience with this charger.

This is a built in protection mechanism. They blink blue to say they are nearing the end of a charge cycle. Once complete, green. Then it wont charge again till the phone calls for it. This is only going to happen with that charger and these phones as they are programmed to work with one another like that.

But then why does it stop charging around different percentages? Like sometimes it is at say 50%, another time at 70%. This morning I woke up and it was at 74%, blinking blue, not charging, after sitting on it all night....

Mine does this as well. I thought it was the vibrations during notifications that was moving it off the "sweet spot" causing the charge to stop.

It is seeming more like a manufacturing defect in the charger. I had one that did the misalignment blinking blue and sent it back. Bought another at my office and its fine. Got the replacement one and its also fine. My first was a pre-order when the S6 edge came out. Maybe the coil or firmware were messed up. Just exchange it and see.
Yeah, I have exchanged it once already, and it still persisted. Reading reviews on Amazon it seems others were complaining of the same issue with the Note 5 or Galaxy Edge 6+, which is why I am wondering if it is something else going on.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
My S6 did not do this but my Note 5 is doing it, on the same charger so yeah there is something clashing with the new and old wireless charging tech maybe? I have my same puck I used from the S6 and it would be at 100% when I woke up, my note today was at 98%! Blasphemy!!
I was thinking we needed a thread for this too. I'm not sure what's going on. I googled it the first night and no one was really talking about it for the note5 and edge+, so I saw lots of the thread for the s6 and s6edge. I'm going to try my wife's phone on it, but I keep forgetting.
EDIT: Day Dream, and keep phone awake, neither of them will work on the wireless charger. My screen just turns off like normal Maybe this is a clue?
Adding distance between the phone and the pad, moving the pad into another room onto to floor.... Any other suggestions?
It definitely is not blinking because it's finished anything. it blinks when the phone is under 15%.
The first night, it never worked. i woke up and it was still blinking. The 2nd night, it blinked once, and i took it off, and put it on, and went to sleep. When i woke up, it was fully charged and cool. The third night, I woke up at 5 am and it was blinking (thankfully I put it on the fast charger and get it 100% before having to go to work). I don't know what I did the 2nd night!
PS: I'm testing right now, and will update soon on my wife's s6 status.
Possible it only works on the fast wireless charger???

If my memory serves me correctly, they said in the unboxed event that it was backwards compatible. Plus, it's a Qi standard, it should HAVE to work to maintain that standard. Plus, That would be messed up! But it is possible....

This is what I am wondering. If Sammy did something here to make only the fast charger work. Of course I have no issues with my Tylt wireless charger though. But I would like the Samsung one to work right if possible. It is just so random. Sometimes it works great and other times not.

To clear this up.
"One Charger, Many Devices
The Samsung Wireless Charging Pad is Qi certified by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and is compatible with all Qi-enabled devices including from Samsung: Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S 5, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 3 (these Galaxy smartphones require Wireless Charging Battery Covers, sold separately) as well as the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 active, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note5 which do not require additional charging battery doors."

Just finished charging, no cutting out on the s6. Weird. But it's not the device, because others report it's not the phone because the phone works on other chargers.

Could be backwards compatible just not with their wireless chargers. I think that's what they did honestly.

Yeah I would bet they are something that only allows wireless fast charging. I would buy a $70 fast charger if my 50% code worked on more then $49.99 lol

Day dream works fine with this charger. You just have to remember to change it to work while charging and not docking. Been using timely with it with no issues. I have had the blinling blue light a few times and also the green light. I think its more of a sweet spot issue than anything.

I did notice that with the day dream last night. After i thought I'd been through all the settings, I'm finding there's still more to discover. If it was as sweet spot issue, why would it start charging? Sometimes it charges for 20 mins, then starts to blink.
Fix for wireless charging issues
So I saw another thread on this somewhere I can't remember. But a guy who claimed to be an engineer said that he figured out that there needs to be some sort of gap between the wireless charger and the Note 5, since I was having the same issue you were I tried it and it worked fine and fast. Apparently it's designed to work better for if the phone is in a case or something I just put some paper in between the wireless charger and the phone and it worked and charged all the way instead of only a couple percent and stopping. Hope that helps!
Just an update, mine worked fine last night fully charged and woke up with it charged.
Yeah, I don't get it. Night before last it fully charged up without a problem. Last night, it was charging fine when I went to bed, when I woke up, it was flashing blue and not nearly fully charged. I mean come on. If I am going to use this, I need it to be reliable. Not sometimes charge and sometimes not. And I do have a thin case on my phone too, so there is a little space there....

I got this one from Amazon yesterday and it worked flawlessly! Woke up and the red charging led on my phone was still lit, as well as the led on the charger saying it was connected. Phone was cool, and it was at 100%. I LOVE the fact that it's tilted/angled as well.

I just got my phone on Tuesday and had the wireless charging issues both Tuesday night and last night. I have tested it some more this morning and it still goes to blinking after being on the charger for a while. I am going to try an exchange today and see if anything changes, but my hopes have diminished after seeing many people experiencing the same issue .
Got the new Samsung fast charge wireless charging puck in today, here's a couple of pictures of what's in the box.
Black puck comes with a white Adaptive Fast Charger and white USB cable (what happen to matching cables & charger?) :silly:
Wonder if you just use the Adaptive Fast Charger with the original puck would get the same results?
Will try it out later tonight and see what it does.
I believe that I hear a fan running inside of the puck. :silly:
So does it charge fast?

Yes, a lot faster then the standard wireless charging pad. Not blazing fast but fast.
So what would the numbers be? 90 mins with the wire, 120 mins with the fast wireless charger, how fast with the old regular rectangular samsung wireless charger? And are these numbers with the phone turned on or off?

2 hours with fast wireless charger with phone on, but if the environment temperature is higher than normal, it could be a little bit slower.
And yes there is a fan running inside, if you listen carefully at night, you can hear some noise.

Where did you get it from?
I heard there are slightly different model numbers from Samsung that look a like and you must buy the EP-PN920TBEGUS model to ensure it is the right one for the Note 5 (black; not sure what the SKU is for the white one for the Note 5). They look interchangeable but some of the boxes they come in say S6 and some say Note 5, and I have read that people that have a Note 5 that end up with the one that says S6 on the outside it works poorly... Where did you get yours?

It wasn't the charger it was the phone. AT&T and international devices got a s/w update that fixed it. Maybe other's can talk about their carrier's pushing an update that corrected it.

The fast puck is air cooled and the standard puck isn't. That's got to be better for both the puck and phone in terms of managing heat. The standard puck has a 5V/2A wall charger while the fast puck comes with a 9V/1.67A wall charger which will fast charge the phone on USB. I'm not defending Samsung's pricing but you are getting better features for the increased price.
I am on Verizon and since I got the phone, there hasn't been any OTA updates. Now I don't know if I should buy the new fast charging unit to try since it might have the same behavior of shutting off and blinking blue.

By cooled you mean fan cooled?
Great, something else to make noise!
I have an Echo string trimmer (58V) and that charger has a fan that's quite loud. Of course at capacity (>100 Wh) it's going to need active cooling.
And yes, it's high, there will be aftermarket ones on AMZN for under $40.
I have the stadium three coil that works perfectly now. The phone gets fairly warm with that one as it is. TBH I prefer the slower charge since that's how the battery is charged most of the time. If I need a quick pick up on a dead phone it's getting plugged in and charging by wire at 3A. This should maximize battery life in the long run which may matter for those that keep their phones for a while.
Im on verizon and no problems on the non fast charger. Been using it for a good week.

If you are talking about Note 5, actually it never caused over heating problem when i tested Samsung or aftermarket fast wireless charger, it's been the best wireless charging phone ever, with fast charging, the phone only gets little bit warm. The s6 edge+ is the phone you need to be worried about, it caused much heat when charging with fast wireless charger, it slows down the charging speed, i guess the fan inside Samsung wireless charger is specially prepared for s6 edge+. So for s6 edge+ user, Samsung's fast wireless charger acts better than aftermarket fast wireless charger without fan.
Here is what the manual says about the fan

Note, however, that the owners manual says fast charge doesn't work when the screen is on. So if your goal is to keep the phone charged while using Navigation or other battery draining apps, a QC charger may not help.

I use the Quick Charge 2.0 version of the exact same modal and it works fine. It is normal that the phone gets a little warm during charging, it gets warm while charging with the original adapter as well. You can always turn of quick charging from the settings.

Mine is louder than my entire PC (which is pretty noise-optimised to be fair).
And the fan is on all the time while charging (ive heard that its meant to turn off when its not hot) .

It's really quiet, I get more "coil noise" from some of my other fast chargers. My Surface Pro 4's fan is 10x louder than the Samsung Fast wireless charger, so unless there's a jet turbine in his I doubt it's that loud.

Just as an update. I have 3 now. Two from the same seller. One from a different seller. All appear to be legit.
All 3 are quite loud. One in particular i think is broken because of how loud it is
All have the same sn on the actual charger. rf7g80ag77acis
The box for #1 and #2 have differnet numbers, but #3 has the same one.
I am using a Samsung USB Power Plug.Do you have tried another?Tell us the bad thing so that we could avoid being defrauded:good:
I dont have another plug to try unfortunately, and the wall chargers are quite expensive.
I'm starting to think all these ebay chargers are legit, but maybe not A+ stock. Maybe the fans are loud (all 3), or the paint is peeling a bit (two of mine)
Totally guessing here.

Someone on whirlpool took one apart, along with a legit one. Components inside were identical. Also the weights matched. Packaging was identical, fast charging works perfectly (confirmed on all three of mine).
There are a lot of fakes on eBay I agree. But they all cost $15 or so. The ones I purchased were $40 and $50 from sellers many others on whirlpool had purchased from
And in reply to the guy who said the fan doesn't turn on when not using a Samsung fast charger adapter.... Yeah that's by design. Same result by switching off fast charging in the phone settings. Fan doesn't turn on

Do you have a link to the teardown? I'm interested to see what's inside componentwise.
Don't mean to derail this thread but instead of creating a new one. I've been meaning to ask: does your Samsung fast wireless pad not turn off (blue lights are still lit up) after charging your phone to 100%? I've got the proprietary standard wireless charging pad but it automatically shuts off once done charging my phone. I'm suspecting a problem with the former but would like to be sure so I went ahead posting it here..
Thanks in adVance!
Hello people,
please be so kind and tell me is this charger something neccessarry to be bought or people (we) can live without and charge our Note 8 with the included wired fast charger?
I really do not know whether to buy it or not.
It looks so cool, and to charge phone fast looks interesting.
For example, I have charged my phone via wired charger from 19-20% to 100%, in about 90 minutes.
Edit - what are the pros/cons?
Thank you in advance for your advice.
I got one free as part of the launch promo and I love it. I think the thing I like the most is the convertible part combined with the always on display. As my phone is my alarm clock I can have it charging at night with the always on display visible and when I grab it in the morning I am not pulling cables out of chargers or knocking things off of the headboard.
tldr: I love it.
I wouldn't say that it is necessary to have. It does look cool especially on my desk at work. The only downside is that even with wireless fast charging it still does not charge anywhere near as fast as with the cable. The "fast" only implies that it is faster than the original wireless charger. I had one next to my bed but eventually stop using it as I found that more often than not I would want to still use my phone while it was on the charger or I wanted to get a faster charge when I was getting ready to leave the house.
I, too, got one as part of the free bundle from Samsung. I just set it up. It does look cool, but if it is set up to use it as a dock, it won't charge my Note 8 with my Otterbox Defender case on it. So sad. It will charge if you have the charger flat with the Otterbox on. I believe the problem is that the charger surface is slightly curved. The phone has to touch it in just the right spot to charge. It probably would work better without the case. I was hoping since the box says, "up to 9 Watt wireless Fast charge" it might be faster than my last generation flat Samsung wireless Fast charger, but it's not. I put my phone at 30% on both. Both say 2 hr 2 min to charge. If you take the cable out of the convertible wireless fast charger and plug it directly into your phone, it says 1 hr 15 min to charge. The good thing is, this convertible charger comes with a USB C cable and the standard Samsung Fast charger, so it can be used as a spare. The last generation flat wireless charger came with a microUSB cable and standard Fast charger. My final conclusion is, since mine was free, I might keep it. I personally wouldn't buy one that won't charge my Note 8 with my Otterbox on in the upright position. As a side note, the convertible charger won't charge my Note 8 in the landscape position either with the Defender case on it.
If mines didn't come free with promo, I would of end up buying it.
Never use it, waste of space. Generates heat, but cable slow charging does not.

Mine either and OP it is great! I got mine for free with phone and was like I will never use this thing, well i haven't plugged my phone in at home! Goes right on there and convenient! Love having mine after months!
Rubbish. All the wireless charging naturally causes heat. It's the nature of the beast.

Wireless not necessary but what is very handy is having a couple 10 foot long cables...

It is the fact as the performance/efficiency of wireless charging is always less the than cable charging.
In mine the fan is constantly on! I mean all the f time!! I cannot wirelessly charge at night because is so annoying! Also I think is too flimsy and I don't like the leather like texture , feels like the plastic on a ps3 controller analog cap.
I find it perfect for next to the bed charging..
