Guys, I'm going to be launching a wireless charging phone sleeve on Kickstarter (Novelsys ampere) in January for the Nexus 6. The unique selling point will be the Smart app that communicates with the sleeve.
I'm doing research for the launch now to determine what features to incorporate in this app:
Display estimated battery life in hrs of phone and ampere
Control when charging starts
find your phone or ampere when one is missing
notifications to recharge at time or location
What other features would you like to see? I've recently posted in the S5 and Nexus 5 forums too, and I've been told not to dilute the product, which I agree with heartily. These are the features I've narrowed it down to. What other things do you think we need to bake in? It will probably be open to developers post-Kickstarter.
I myself use a Nexus 4 with Qi built in but I haven't found a satisfactory wireless charging solution yet... that's kinda why I worked on my own.
See more about the product: http://kickstarter.novelsys.co
Just subscribed on your website
Okay so this is meant to protect the phone and charge it at the same time? Im assuming there is a battery inside the case as well as a qi transmitter?
That's right. Paired with an app. And higher build quality than from your typical Qi charger. What do you think about the idea?
Subscribed as well...if you need a beta tester let me know.

Looks excellent, but you need to figure out a solution to why sleeves suck, they either have no top and don't hold the phone well or are too tight.
As long as it comes in black so I can keep it on with my uniform!
I'll beta if I need to as well!
Would you like my wallet now, or later?
Seriously, I hope this will be as good as it sounds.
Yes its black, and the internal colour has been changed from orange to grey so its more suitable for corporate environments!
That's an interesting perspective on sleeves. Yes will take that into account when testing.
aiight, im jumping on the bandwagon too. :fingers-crossed:
just subb'ed and am following you cats on instagram...
I think I'm getting a QI enabled power bank for Christmas..... But a sleeve makes much more sense! I think its a great idea. Definitely more secure and will keep the QI aligned to ensure it stays charging.
Any info about the mah of the sleeve for the Nexus 6. Would need to be enough to charge the device at least twice in my opinion.
What about a using magnets to help secure the phone inside the sleeve instead of just tension?

honestly seems like a pretty good idea, the potential problems I see for this are targeting the correct consumer base. The phone is already big, this will make it huge, therefore its not going in anyones pocket. So, who carries phones around not in a pocket? People that have other places to put them, who has other places to put them?
1. Women (in their purse)
2. Older executives in a briefcase maybe?
3. College kids who might carry a backpack?
I may be wrong, but as much as I would like something like this, its just too inconvenient not to have my phone in my pocket. There's still some clip phone people out there, maybe adding a clip would help? Just my 2 cents, love the idea, just concerned its not being designed for the right demographic aesthetically.
The problem for me as others have mentioned is the bulkiness of the sleeve. When you add in the 3,000mah battery (assuming it would at least be this size) and coils for qi charging it's going to pretty thick. I'm Ok with that because this would be on my visor in my work truck, but wouldn't go great in pocket.
if you are taking the no idea is a bad idea approach, what if you incorporated this into a car mount with the display revealed, so every day I got into my car I could slide it in, and it would charge, then I could slide it out and take it with me, or if I KNEW i was going to need extra battery, I could detach the whole thing and clip it to a belt or throw it in a pack?

Agree with this idea!
I don't mean to intercept, but in the meantime and between time...
I've received this pouch/sleeve (handmade) and posted a bit about it here:

This pouch/sleeve has a front pocket and I slid in one of the Fone Qi Stone+ wireless portable chargers I use in that pouch and boom! Portable charging on the go.
Very cool idea man. I'll back that.
It looks promising, is there rough price range for the sleeve?

That's a pretty sweet idea! Maybe that could come as a stretch goal or in the next iteration of ampere. I originally included a pocket at the back of the sleeve for cards and cash but didn't like the aesthetics/ bulk of it. That could actually have been space for a belt clip. Hmm. I could find some way to hack around it maybe.... thanks for the brilliant idea.

Please, feel free to share. I've been searching tirelessly for potential competitors too so I can learn how to improve ampere's user experience.
You know what, that's where I got the idea for ampere too, but I think I've made ampere sufficiently sexy, slim, and seamless with alignment + smart charging app that you'll at least consider it over that? If you must know, that was what I put together for the MVP (prototype) to prove product validation. So I guess you can say you just recreated ampere v1.

I thought about magnets too, but the sleeve itself helps with securing the phone and alignment. Magnets would make it harder to get the phone out of the sleeve, and would necessitate some kind of strap to lift the phone out, which in turn adds some to bulk.

Hello again, Nerdz.
This review will be for the all mighty docking station with built in battery charger and spare battery. I found it for $49.97 and received a 20% discount with the purchase of two other accessories. One of which was the Power and Protection Package that was aleady marked down by 25 dollars and I still received the 20% off of the damn box as well. I hope your experience will be as excellent as mine. (Father's Day weekend) I scored an awesome wife..
After a long hard day of work the last thing you wanna do is stare at your phone. So I give you the DOCKtor. It is your basic docking station with one micro USB port for the power pusher. It has a recessed area for the USB port protector and can also fit the phone with the expanded battery attached. The battery port is also equipped to fit the fat beast of a battery you may or have purchased. it has a light indicator for the charging battery. (Red, Yellow, Green) and a nice white LG logo that illuminates once the phone is docked. DESKHOME launches and automatically displays the digital time.
Let go of your phone and enjoy your much bigger monitor sitting on your desk. This works great with the HDMI cord plugged into my HDTV and the AUX from the sound system leading into the phone. It is a nice way to ignore the ROKU and tell it, "anything you can do my phone can do better!"

also curious about which case you got.

Very true. Just a heads up, Verizon sells it for $29.99 plus tax. Amazon? $17.00, no shipping. I love mine. I had on my phone for 20 minutes, then my twin 18 month old boys and I were playing, one little guy reached in my pocket and ran off in 2.5 seconds. Then it went across the room, and off the dining room table, bounced off the floor and out the door as my wife was coming in the house. It finally rested on my concrete patio. It was ridiculous! Phone? Perfect. Case? Barely a scratch.

I've had two different desktop docks and has anyone else noticed that when they painted them, they left some spots thin so you can see light shine thru. It was better on my second one, but there are still spots.
+1on the belt clip case with the fold out stand....works great. I got it from the verizon website when i ordered my revo.
The desktop dock is on the vzw website, amazon, etc.
Thanks for sharing.
I have that same case but I was having problems with the phone getting very hot. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this problem?
I haven't had the heating issue. My only complaint is they don't make that case for an extended battery. otherwise, I love it. fits the holster nice...Its good.
Just received this dock and have been using it for a couple of days.

It's small, feels like a decent quality piece. It's glossy black with rubber feet on the bottom so it doesn't slide around. It keeps the Note 2 supported nicely when it's dropped in. It's got a floppy rubbery insert that you can take out if you have a case.
One con is that a few times when I've yanked my phone out, the rubber piece has either partially or completely come out. My advice would be to decide on a case of not and, if you leave the rubber insert in, put a drop of hot glue or something to keep the insert in place.

Yes, it works with a slim case for me without even taking the rubber insert out. When you take the rubber insert out, there's a good 0.5-0.75cm around it, particularly the edges. A case with a big beefy back probably would not fit.

It doesn't come with a cable -- you use your phone's provided cable or anything else, so whatever those deliver. I just have a usb-to-microusb running from my computer to it and it works fine.

Sheesh guys. Think a little more outside your own world.
I have this dock connected to my computer at work. I walk in from a meeting, drop the phone in the charger (instead of setting it down, picking up the cable, jamming it in, etc) and it's immediately mounted as a drive on my computer and is charging anytime I'm at my desk. Need to run to a meeting? You just pick it up...no fussing with cables.
Nope, no spare battery. Surprise, most people don't need one. I spend half my day working at my desk, meaning my phone is charging half the day. In fact, I don't even feel like I ever "charge". It's just sitting in its stand. I never need to plug it in at home.
Nope, no USB or HDMI. Surprise, 99% of the people that use this phone care about that, so why pay for a $100 for a dock with it (that's the wrong color, BTW).
20 bucks? Wow, they saw you coming a mile off.

You can just plug the phone into the dock without having to pick up the charge cable and plug it into the phone. Same for removing it from the dock. Since we have to charge the phone everyday, I would say the dock has a value.

Been looking for something like this as well. Unfortunately most of the cradles with a high back have a slim opening at the bottom where your phone in a thicker case won't fit. Slim flip case or tpu case works fine, but when you start getting in UAG/Convert/Defender category - those won't fit. Maybe others can chime in if there is another cradle to fit Note 2 in a thicker case, but I have seidio cradle coming to me next week for review and they supposed to guarantee fitment with Active and Convert. Don't quote me on that yet, I will not know until I get it next week and test it out with various cases. Will post pictures as well. The drawback, it doesn't have a high back for NFC tag I want to see if I can stick it on top of it or a side or something. In theory, you just bring it close to activate night or whatever mode you need and then place it in the holder.
Business card holder. Got a metallic one from Staples for a few bucks. Even use it in my car since I'm low on windshield space to mount a cradle.
Oops, I might off missed the original question. Were you looking for a cradle with a charging port or just a cradle? Cause that seidio cradle thingy I mentioned about is actually a charging base that can take Note 2 with a thick case. For just a cradle like it was mentioned above, you can find just about anything that will fit
Charging port would be nice but I already counted that option out. I could probably easily just bend a piece of aluminum a few times and make it work but I was trying to see if there is already sometging available I can just order and be done with it.

Hey all I'm still looking for something that will work. It has been a while since anyone responded to this thread, and also since it's been out, but Maybe something has changed in that time. Any new news? The Seidio Dock works for the Active, but not for the UAG
Found this by Kidigi, http://www.gadgets4geeks.com.au/pro...er-usb-sync-samsung-galaxy-note-2-n7100-n7105
Seems quite amazing, pretty much covered the requirements needed to accommodate the note 2 with a case. As to whether it will actually accommodate the Note 2 with a UAG case, I can't say for certain.
It doesn't have a high enough back support to allow for the use of a NFC tag, but perhaps one could glue a piece of wood/plastic to the cradle in a way that acts as a back support and slap an NFC tag on it. (probably won't look as nice though)

Not 100% sure, but it states that it is capable of data sync and charging output at 1A.
If you wanted to trigger 'dock' mode, then best bet would be to use a NFC tag or learn how to trigger dock mode by modifying the micro usb with resistors.

I was bored on a long weekend and decided that the universal car mounts with the arms (you know the ones I'm talking about - these pieces of junk http://i.imgur.com/f2zZcCs.jpg ) plus the necessity of plugging the phone in manually was ENTIRELY too much trouble.
Ok, not really... but that was my excuse for putting together a little DIY project!
It turns out that the LG WCP-300 wireless qi charger fits perfectly inside a gutted Schosche Vent Mount (this guy: http://i.imgur.com/rRpZO78.jpg ). I had to cut out quite a bit of little plastic pieces, but the charger is held very securely once the mount is gutted.
Next, I bolted a secure, flat platform to my A-pillar trim piece (the pillar to the left of the windshield) and mounted a flexible arm suction cup mount.
From there, I hard-wired a 2amp usb charger using a fuse-tap and ran the cable up through the dash and out between the A-pillar trim piece and the dashboard. This cable is plugged into the wireless qi charger.
So now, when I get in the car, I just set my phone on the charger, the magnets hold it securely in place, and it charges wirelessly!
It's totally awesome and is definitely the most expensive car mount I've ever had - but it's SO cool!
Total cost: Around $40 for the mount, another $40 for the LG WCP-300 wireless charger.

I purchased some neodymium rare earth magnets from Home Depot. Not sure of the exact ones, but the ones on the phone mount are fairly large, while the ones inside the case are, by necessity, much smaller.
There are no magnets in the WCP-300 - I found that putting magnets on it - at least in my case - made charging not as consistent. It may have just been some other factor during my testing, but there you have it. The magnets are around the WCP-300 and around the wireless charging coils in the phone itself (I popped off the cover attempting to place the magnets inside the phone initially).
Hopefully that answers your question!

nice car mount dude. hope to get this one also.. :good:
do the magnets interfere with your gps/compass?

Great questions. The ONLY thing they interfere with is the compass... the phone always thinks it's pointing north. However, I only use navigation, and direction is determined by GPS, not by compass, so I don't notice the difference.
well nice try indeed.
but i have my doubts about those magnets corrupting the flash storage and the compass alignment during use. imagine s.o. putting stronger neodym there. that blows the electrons into space lol. also destroying the carinterior is bad ....

Well, it's a good thing he's not forcing this on the general public then. It's only one option. Looking forward to seeing your solution.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

Well, the car interior was not destroyed. I used a trim piece that costs $24 to replace.
If you could point me to a study or some proof that the magnets are bad for my phone, I will take them off in a heartbeat! As it is, I can deal with the compass not working.
I doubt these guys would be in business if magnets were bad for your phone. http://www.amazon.com/Cradle-less-Q...e=UTF8&qid=1382805684&sr=1-1&keywords=imagnet
Nice work OP.

well i dont know the physics behind very well, but i think when bad things come together and somebody uses a very heavy magnet the induction voltages could outrage and lead to misbehavior or destruction. but it seems like the have to be really strong to do even little damage.
But neodym magnets can of course cause severe damage to other sensors or metallic parts in the cellphone. Like the vibrator e.g. ... :silly: i think as long as the magnetic fields arent moved with high speeds nothing should happen to the flash memories.
the car interior wasnt destroyed ? didnt you cut or screw the A-pillar of the car ? ....
Look nice :good:

I guess you missed it. Yes, I bolted it to the A-pillar TRIM PIECE, which, as I pointed out, is $24 to replace if I ever decide to get rid of it.
Not sure how magnets affect the phone in the long run (so far, nothing out of the ordinary), but I guess I'll be the pioneer and let y'all know if something goes wrong!
Does anyone know when a wireless charging enabled back cover is likely to be released and any pricing?

I'm also curious to know about this. I keep searching Amazon, but haven't seen anything yet. There is a thread talking about a wireless charging sticker or something, but I'd rather wait till something comes available on Amazon rather than order on some site I've never heard of.

On the G3 there were (supposedly) OEM stickers, or you could buy the back covers with them already in (supposedly also OEM) I got one and put it in myself and it worked great. Just gotta wait for then to come around. probably wont be long.
Yeah there's a post on this section about some stickers already available from China, but nobody has reported back yet on how they work. Plus I think I'll wait till an actual back replacement comes out. What I'd love is a good sturdy case that protects the phone while replacing the back at the same time. You'd have the benefit of a strong case, with a slim profile. Kind of like the quick circle, but beefier, and without the flap.
I know that the Quick-Circkel case has Wireless charging in it.. But you probably don't want a flap on your phone.. #flapphone..

Yeah you're right. I wouldn't mind something like the quick circle, minus the flap. Because it seems like it's about the same thickness as the normal back. Then i could put a case on top of it. But yeah I don't like the flap, and I want a sturdy case. And I want wireless charging. I want it all! :silly:
I gave up looking for the LG G3 and then they apparently came out. LOL. I had a sticker for my S4 and it worked nicely, but did add a little bulk to the back. There wasn't much room for it.

Well hopefully in the next few weeks something might come out. I may end up having to try a sticker, but worried about frying my $600 phone with an $8 coil lol.
I don't trust things from weird websites. Even eBay can be a bit fishy for me. I'll wait until I see them on Amazon and purchase them from there. At least I would have some recourse if there were an issue.

Yep, I'm with you. I'm going to wait for something on Amazon. They always take care of me.
There have just been too many horror stories for unauthorized 3rd-party accessories (especially with iPhones and iPads), but not unheard of with other brands where damage was caused by unauthorized adapters, chargers, wires, etc. Not taking any chances!
Agreed 100% here.
I would love the new G4 but the lack of Qi is pissing me off. I can't understand why they don't make this standard. If you have never used Wireless Charging, you may think it is a stupid perk, but let me tell you, it is not. I have wireless charging pads on my desk at work, home, and bedside. I use the Nokia Qi Charger with multipoint that allows me to pretty much plop it down any way and it starts charging.
Sure it isn't a QUICK charge (which sucks btw, slow charging is better), but amazing... especially bed side.
I am looking online and only see the Folio cases which are absurdly expensive. NO Way am I spending $60 for a feature that should be there in the first place. The little QI coils are basically a single thin strand of wire.
Plus I want an OFFICIAL backplate... and it also (hopefully) doesn't add additional thickness because I want to use a Feather case.
Guess this purchase is on the fence. My G2 is still rocking. I am in no hurry to get rid of it.

I'm coming from the Verizon G2, but can tell you first hand the G4 is 1000% better, faster, strong, and lighter. Better camera, better battery life, better screen, etc, etc, etc.... Sure I miss the wireless capabilities of my G2, that's why I've ordered a wireless sticker from China!
Thread on the stickers here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/wireless-charging-sticker-available-t3119594

Man you are preaching to the choir. I decided that wireless charging is a must have with my next phone, partially because the charging port on my old phones always wear out from my incessant plugging and unplugging, but mostly because of how frigging convenient it is. And like you, I was also pissed to find out the G4 was not coming with it so I was seriously considering the Galaxy S6. But I was still on the fence because of other features on the G4. But the free 128gb SD card and free battery, cradle, and 32gb SD card threw me on the G4 side. And I am glad I did. Loving the phone. Typing on it right now. [emoji3] But I will not be set back. I WILL have wireless charging, I'm just going to have to wait a bit. Even if I have to buy the quick circle and hack off the stupid flap. Wonder if a normal case would fit on it then? Also don't want to spend $50 on a case only to rip it apart lol. Anyway. C'est la vie.

Ah crop just realized NY user ID changed cause I posted with Tapatalk. I'm paqmanbiker.
Wow autocorrect. Anyway, natepacker, paqmanbiker, call me what you want, it's both me lol. I've got Tapatalk figured out now. It's near impossible to type in desktop versions of forums on a phone. Is it just me? The cursor jumps all over the place and types words in weird spots? Not just on my G4, any phone. Tapatalk is nice though.
I'm in the same boat... Coming for a VZW G2.... I need wireless charging on my G4!!!!!!!!!
I also have a VS980 and want the G4 but would be really annoyed not being able to use the 4 wireless chargers I own!
Wireless charging backs and stickers will be available soon. Just be patient. The phone just came out in the US.
Did they ever come out with a back for the G3?
Yes. Just did a simple list on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...ords=wireless+charging+back+for+lg+g3&x=0&y=0
