Is it just me or the bottom ir sensors actually glow a little red in the dark?

Not just you, I can see mine too. They aren't sensors, there is only one sensor and it's on the top left. The other three (there's actually another one to the right of the ear piece) are emitters and their sole purpose is to emit IR for the sensor to pick up. So that's what you are seeing, the emitters lighting up. Was just talking about this in another thread- http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/help/ir-sensors-t2963401

Alright. I was just a tad bit worried

They look like 730nm "far red" LEDs. It's a slightly past what a human eye sees well but it's compatible with visible light optics and it's reflected by skin well.

Does your hob get hot? If so the camera is most probably imaging the infra red radiation from the heat. Point the camera at a remote control LED while pressing a button and look at your phone's screen.
Yeah I got a light with my camera from my optical gaming mouse, but it isn't visible to the eye! Very cool (sort of)

What you're seeing is near-Infra-Red (nIR) radiation. CCD and CMOS image sensors are sensitive to a much wider range of EM wavelengths than the visible spectrum. Due to the size and cost of compact sensors, filters to remove these unwanted wavelengths are not perfect. The Bayer Pattern (RGBG) colour filters on the sensor itself have different band passes; ranges of wavelengths in which they will allow light to pass. The red filter will allow a small amount of nIR to pass, as red is the closest in wavelength to nIR. The green filter blocks IR fairly effectively. The blue filter's transmission spectrum blocks red and green effectively, but is fairly transparent to nIR.
That is why nIR appears purple on CCD and CMOS camera.

Hard-to-see LED notification light

Hi. Have had this gorgeous phone for a few months now. Is it me or are the red and green LED notification lights less easy to see now?
In a dark room in the middle of the night, it is not a problem, but during the day (office and at home) I can't really see these lights at all... So I have to unlock the handset to see if I have any messages.
Anyone else?

same here but getting immune to it coz the batt the sound/music output and overall performace is class apart.bought this sleek gizmo just 3 dayzz bck simply luving it.
I agree that I find the red/orange LED a little dull, hard to see.
But the green LED is so bright and it looks so good imo. When that green LED starts flashing sometimes I just sit there looking at it :silly:
I have a kernel that flashes the capacitive buttons when I get a notification. Have a look for a new kernel

Clean the grill with a dry toothbrush small particles of dust will inevitably get stuck I'm the grill clear it out and You should notice a big diffrence in the light intensity, and also in the speakers.
yeah and make sure u use colgate to make it shine
I agree. The notification light is pretty hard to see, especially coming from a BlackBerries and then a Galaxy S3, in which the LED notification lights can be seen from just about any where.

I guess that the way to solve this problem is flash the kernel that inclubing button light notification~
Samsung and blckbery hav better and bright led notification led.....its funny tht htc had put two led lights on droid dna but both were so dull....almost invisble.......the company shud fix this...

Glad to know I am not alone in thinking this.

This seems to vary per device (possibly per rom) as other people I know with a One complain that its too bright, but for me on mine it seems (and always has done regardless of rom) very dim. In a dull room it is easy to see, but in my bright office I struggle.
Exactly, at night, I can see a faint light, but I the daytime, forget it!
One more thing I noticed, when I am charging and whilst connected to the mains, I turn the phone off, for a fee seconds the red notification light is proper bright again... Then after a few seconds it goes back to its very dim state again.
This therefore eliminates problems with the led itself and things like dust in the grill, etc.... It must be to do with the software I reckon.... Either in the system instructions or some side effect to one of the many settings in the options........ Need help please!

I used a toothbrush, maybe I need one that is firm or hard. I got a better audio from using it the the loudspeaker on the back underneath the BeatsAudio logo so very pleased with that. I can now see 1 tiny speck of light on the rear LED and 1 tiny speck of light on the front where the ear speaker is, other than that I cant get it cleaned. Any other suggestions

[Q] Camera problems

So I've received my HTC One and I am extremely pleased with it, there's just two questions that need clearing up for me.
The camera lens cover is a bit tilted. I have no idea if the actual sensor is also tilted or if it isolated to the glass. It seems off to me but does not seem to impact image quality, but should I get it replaced?
The camera also seems to make some sort of a click noise when I start it. Is this normal or is my One further defect?
Thanks!
U not the only one man..till now I still don't now is it a factory difect or what.

That's not right. Get it replaced.
I always have this purplish hue surrounding the edges when in the camera app. It's specially noticeable when I'm taking pictures in low light.
Plus when I cover the lens with my hand, rather than going black. It becomes red :/

I have the exact same issue in low light. Would be great to hear if that's normal for most or not.

It's an already known issue, has to do with the sensor being extremely sensitive. No need to worry
My brother has the One as well and it doesbt happen to his one. Plus when I do side by side shots of the same thing, his Camera takes better crisper pictures :what:

[Q]Auto Brightness problem

Is anyone having issue for the auto brightness?
The screen brightness adjust automatically, but is too dim in a dark environment.
Wanna know if anyone have this issue? Or my Z3+ have problem with the sensor.
Does it get bright enough under direct sunlight? If so, the sensor is probably good. Now in my case, it does get quite dim in a completely dark room. It's a good thing. I wish it could get dimmer!
You could also run a service test on the 'ambient light sensor' by dialing #*#*SERVICE*#*#. In a fully dark room, mine reads 0 as it should.

Yes. Bright enough under direct sunlight, and 'ambient light sensor' also reads 0 in a dark room now (not fully dark, with PC monitor screen on).
I think mine is too sensitive at the dark environment. I was on the street around sunset yesterday, and the screen go very dim.
I will test the 'ambient light sensor' tomorrow around sunset time again.
Did you remove the screen plastic. Sounds silly but I didn't for a few days. I didn't realize it was there and i can now reduce my brightness level a lot which will also help with battery.
There are 2 covers one you remove and one that stays, I think

That's good to know. I thought the second one (factory screen protector) might come off with the Sony logo like it did on Xperia Z
http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/03/2...-the-xperia-z-screen-protector-sony-logo-too/
Btw, did you try to slide up the 'Brightness Level' under display setting even though the 'Adaptive brightness' is on? It should set the minimum brightness level higher. It's more like semi-auto brightness on the recent Android version. So try it out when it feels dim to you next time in order to find a suitable 'brightness level'

Do you know if the original screen protector is also shatterproof? or is it just some cheap crappy one?
It does not bright enough under direct sun.

Seems it is a cheap crappy one.
BTW FYR I only removed the upper one.
The upper one with texture should be removed the second might as well be left in place until it gets scratched, its pretty okay and does the work. As for the back I taped on the texture one until I get a back protector. Kinda silly to not include one from Sony's side

Light bleed

Does anyone get any inconsistent light bleed at the bottom of the screen, I know light bleed is normal in current screen technology, i'm just curious, top and left/right side looks fine on my unit, it's just the bottom, I will not return my unit as it isn't realy consider a defect.

Come to think of it, you can only see it if you are on the lock screen using the white, rose or white background, I did notice this as well on the other units before I chosen this one as my final one.
I have a slight light bleed on the bottom right hand corner. i only notice it if i really look for it,. it only shows on brighter colors. Only thing im afraid of is it getting worse.. my xperia z3 compact had the same issue, but way worse. it was yellowish, so i think it was the glue melting or something. whats crazy about the z3 compact having the issue is; i bought the phone with a cracked display and sent it to Sony to fix/replace everything that was broken and i received it like that. i havent owned one IPS display device without having light bleed.
PS. i have the xperia x, non performance.
No light bleed here. You're talking bottom of screen above speaker?

im talking about the very bottom right part of the bezel. think of it as if you had a white tool bar at the very bottom, you would notice it on the right edge of the screen, on the bottom portion. it goes up about half an inch. I would get it replaced, but then id be without a phone and i only really notice it if im looking for it.. still bugs me with my OCD though

I'm looking and don't see it. My only issue which doesn't affect functionality and that I ignore is that my front camera isn't quite centered in the opening. It's slightly shifted to the right. It's weird because when I check the phone I don't see any gaps even with a flashlight. But no big deal.

All I have is a row of very faint light dark light dark light....... along the bottom from one end to the other, I think its just the row of LED along the bottom, I have check many units from friends and display model, they all have this.
But since it's very faint and only shows with white or beige background, it isn't important and I don't think its a defect.

If you open diagnostics, screen test and look at the full white page.. Do you notice light in the bottom of each corner? (not the top ones, but bottom). I just got my replacement because it was bothering me on my last unit.. this one has the EXACT issue, in the exact spots (more noticable on the right side). a pure black screen looks perfect though? i just think that is so odd.
also, i do notice the black strip you're talking about, i think it has to do with those leds being visable

This issue isn't bothing me, but there is a problem I have noticed, not sure if it was their during my purchase or it suddenly just popped out, but in a white screen I do have a patch about 3mm-4mm which is white that shows up, it's much whiter than the actual screen if you have white and also shows up in a biege background, I think it's what people are calling a light bleed I guess, it's on the bottom left corner about 10mm from the left and 15mm from the bottom.
I took it to a local xperia service center yesterday, and they say it could be two reasons behind it, either something is pressing on the back of the screen or a defective LCD panel, either way they say my warranty covers it, it's a shame as It was sort of a perfect screen free from any pixel problems that I find with many xperia phones.
I will have them to service it after my holiday in early October.
