Another 'I'm an idiot' thread - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

And not my first! You'd have thought I'd be great at fixing this by now, although this one is new to me.
So.
I accidentally wiped everything clean on my phone, including my backup.
Now all I have is TWRP v2.6.3.3
I've tried to sideload various files onto the phone, but nothing has worked. I suspect that this may be because my pc (win 8.1) is not recognising my phone, but I may be wrong, I'be been wrong about everything else these last 20 odd hours.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks
Chris

Windows 8.1 only really has problems with hboot 1.44 ..are you on that old hboot ?
see post 2 faq 2 on how to get your drivers installed

be sure the rom your sideloading is in the same folder as adb

Thanks, I'm on hboot 1.54, do I need 1.44?
I now have 'my htc' showing under devices, thanks
The rom I'm trying to load is in the same folder as adb, I'm on adb sideload on my phone, I type 'adb sideload One_4.06.1540.2_odexed' and it said that it couldn't read the file?

Right, I tried to sideload the latest android revolution rom, but it failed, it said:
Starting adb sideload feature
installing'//sideload.zip'checking for MD5 file
Skipping MD5 file check: No MD5 file found
Verifying zip signature
E:Zip signature verification failed: 1

If you don't want to mess around with drivers, I'll recommend getting an OTG cable. Put your rom in a flash drive, connect it through the OTG cable. TWRP can manage it from there.

use an md5 file checker before you sideload it to the phone

[Q] Sprint HTC One UNFIXABLE! HELP!

My Sprint HTC One was working fine until i flashed the latest AOKP build and a kernel that must not have worked. The phone started rebooting and wouldn't stay in the system for longer than a minute. I decided to wipe everything, even internal storage so that I could adb push another rom onto it and install. I did this before but for some reason this time it didn't. My computer recognized when I'm in adb or fastboot but when I try to push a rom from adb or flash a rom from fastboot it says it can't mount data, cache, system, blah blah blah... I know I'm a noob at this rooting stuff with HTC but please could someone help me? I also tried RUU but my image version was higher then the RUU image version so that wasn't an option as my image version is 1.31.651.2 and the latest image version for RUU is 1.29.651.10. I don't have s-off and I am not able to obtain it because I have no OS and it can't mount. Can someone PLEASE HELP ME?
You can get into twrp..... try re installing the htc drivers or generic Android drivers. perhaps maybe installing the drivers on a different pc and or using a live ubuntuu disk and pushing the files over to twrp.

Your internal memory is corrupt. Flash a different version of TWRP. It should fix the errors. You will then be able to mount everything.

[Q] Help please stuck on HTC boot screen

I've recently done the conversion to the Google Edition but since my headphone didn't work with it I wanted to go back to Stock.
Unfortunately I completely screwed up...
The current state of my phone is:
I can't boot, only end up at the white HTC logo boot screen
I can't recover my nandroid backup because CWM says "Can't mount SD card"
I can't flash the RUU I found because my firmware is too high...
I can't root / flash a different because I can't transfer any files to my phone
I can't S-off my phone because adb doesn't see it... (Using rumrunner)
I really have no idea what to do and I don't even know how I reached this point. I just flashed the Rom for stock HTC M7 JB and had multiple errors occurring decided to try flashing KitKat which didn't work and suddenly nothing worked anymore.
Does anyone have an idea of what I could try?
Thanks a lot for our help!

Thats great !!
install the HTC Sync and then uninstall it but leave the drivers
next step is boot to recovery
and from their try
adb devices
if it works
adb push this file to your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2481786&d=1388342684
adb push TWRP_2.6.3.3_m7.zip data/media/0/
make sure TWRP_2.6.3.3_m7.zip is in the same directory as adb before push
you flash that from recovery the same you do a rom .. then reboot to recovery to see it
Also note that your s-on and cannot use a kitkat rom
find ARHD 31.6 here and push it the same you did the recovery

if you know how to manually install drivers from device manager you can use these
Flash TWRP recovery and push ROM with ADB.
Reboot into TWRP.
Press mount and just choose DATA
Leave it and then push your rom file with "adb push rom.zip /sdcard/.
When its done you will get a message that files are transfered, Now flash rom
Thanks, that worked.

[Q] No OS, Sideload not working, RUU toolkit can't find device....Stuck!

I had a ton of problems with my CM11, It would crash everytime I tried to download something and playstore would crash. I tried restoring a few backups I made before Gapps ect...but it kept reverting back to the same problem.
I didn't make a stock backup and was pretty much stuck. I planned to do a wipe, and sideload Viperrom so I could at least activate my phone since it is Sense based.
That didn't work, so I downloaded the RUU toolkit, and it keeps saying device not found, even though it is showing up on Windows, clearly it's connected. Drivers are installed, though Squibbys toolkit. Adb sideload won't work and Squibbies can't find device. I can't access the CMD panel on my Winodows computer because I'm staying in a hotel for a trip and they have it blocked, and all I have with me is my Macbook.
Is there a way to download Viperone or Viperrom, and load it onto my phone with my mac? Twrp is running and working fine, I just need an .img on my internal storage so I can install it.
I hate these stupid phones

This ruu is for dev edition. From what I see on post #3 you have the sprint variant recovery (WLS). Unless you have made an error downloading the wrong recovery, I assume your phone is a WLS variant and the dev RUU can't be used on your phone as all M7_U/M7_UL roms.
Like SaHiLzZ said, post your fastboot getvar all before proceeding any further.
Open a terminal windows
Change directory to your adb/fastboot folder i.e:
Code:
cd [COLOR="Red"]desktop/some_folder[/COLOR] [COLOR="Orange"]<---- replace red characters to match your fastboot
folder path[/COLOR]
then
Code:
fastboot-mac getvar all

./fastboot-mac getvar all

[SOLVED] Can't sideload a ROM because it adb doesn't show device?

I have the device attached, it shows up in fastboot, but when I do "adb devices" it shows nothing. Therefore I cannot sideload a ROM. The reason I have to sideload is because there is currently no system to boot into.
Is it because I have to find the correct drivers or something? I tried installed HTC Sync manager but that didn't install the drivers. Is there anything I can do to get my device showing up to ADB? I have CWM installed and I went into recovery, enabled sideload and still no results.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
I have a ROM on my sd card already but it won't install. It says error in data/media/0/paranoidota/ROM.zip when trying to install.
Edit: The phone is S-OFF and all that, as I said, the device shows up via fastboot, is there something I can do there?
This had me stumped too.
Look in the device manager and you'll see a device called one. Manually force the drive to android device bridge and try again. Adb devices will return sideload next to the device id

you're in the UK, so safe to assume you have an m7_ul model, did you switch to TWRP 2.6.3.3 or .4?

Yeah it's M7_ul, I put on TWRP 2.6.3.3
Delete the file and sideload again. I couldn't flash a zip, but sideloaded again and it was fine. I assume md5's are correct in the PC

Still no results. Same error. Deleted the file, tried a sideload again.
This is the full script of what it shows:
"Installing /data/media/0/sideload.zip"
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: No MD5 file found.
E: Error executing updater binary in zip /data/
Sorry, what i meant was have you checked the md5 of the file you're transfering on the pc against the download site? It sounds like either the file is corrupt or your recovery can't process it

I tried a different ROM where I did an MD5 check but with everything OK I still get this error. This is the ROM I tried :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472604
Edit: The guys in the Paranoid Android ROM thread say I need a 2.7.0.8 TWRP, That was the ROM I was initially having trouble with and trying to sideload.
I used the most recent twrp available. Think its 2.7.1.1

Yeah I just put that one on. Now we're back to the original problem, it doesn't show my devices when I try to sideload. This is a right pain.

If it shows up in the device manager on your pc, try go back one version of twrp. It should come up as an adb device

I was able to 4.3 B-ETA2 of paranoid android installed and working. On the TWRP suggested in this thread, the Paranoid Android thread lot are saying to get 4.4 I need the most up to date TWRP, so I guess now I can update twrp and load the latest version onto the phone without needing to sideload, hopefully.
Edit: Yup that's what happened. Worked perfectly. I basically needed to update TWRP to the latest version, after flashing an old ROM on via a sideload beucase ParanoidAndroid 4.4 needs the latest TWRP. Thanks for the advice in there. Will hit the thanks button in a sec!
Edit: Limited to 8 thanks a day, how terrible!

If you had a normal nandroid back it would be simple enough, but I have no Idea what a HSMBackup is.
I did it with HTC Sync Manager

Then I would assume you restore the backup with the same program

Right now My phone do not boot the OS at all .. although I can go to fastboot and twrp recovery mode ..
1. I rooted my phone ..
2. I tired to unroot it after few days but failed .. got sucked in the middle
3. After that I tried to flash an ruu stock rom .. but failed ...
4. then I tried to factory reset but by mistake also formatted the phone after using wipe delvic data in twrp ):
Now my phone get stucked and dont go beyond "HTC Quietly Brilliant" Screen ... ):
I guess I should flash stock rom but I have no clue .. as in my previous attempt I used to get "Signature Verify Failed" error .. Probably I was flashing wrong rru or maybe its something else ..

Can you post output of
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Please remove imei and serial numbers before posting.
You can flash a stock Rom with custom recovery and maybe then your sync manger backup will work.
If you found my posts helpful, no need to say thanks. There's a button for that

Yeah should have waited for getvar before adding that last bit. There is no stock Rom for that cid and firmware.
You'll need to flash the full Rom with twrp. :good:

There is no RUU that will work for your device with s-on. You need to flash a Rom with custom recovery.
Unfortunately there's no stock Rom you can flash with a custom recovery that matches your device so you'll need a custom rom.

Download Android Revolution HD 82.0 from the above link. Put it in your fastboot folder and rename it rom.zip
Flash TWRP 2.6.3.3 With fastboot. And boot to twrp. Connect your usb while the phone is on the twrp home screen and in the command window type
Code:
adb push rom.zip /sdcard
The command window will appear unresponsive until the push completes (several minutes) when it's done install the Rom with twrp recovery :good:
Unfortunately your HTC sync backup probably won't work but altleast your phone should
