Resetting rooted Chromecast to defaults - Google Chromecast

Turns out I like the Amazon Fire TV Stick better than my Chromecast, so I'm considering selling it or giving away to friends.
How can I reset the settings on the *rooted* Chromecast to defaults without losing root?
Thanks!

By same methods, that you are resetting not rooted CC.

Yes, I am. I personally reset my device to stock settings like a week ago, with pressing CC button for 25 seconds. And CC is still rooted.

Still worth to root?

I have a release date Chromecast sitting on my desk, never opened. but I dont have a OTG cable to root it. with all these new apps supporting Chromecast, is it still worth to buy a OTG cable to root it? thanks!

I guess it depends what is out there and what you are trying to do. I live outside of the US and rooted mine so I can use a DNS server hack. Who knows, maybe there will be other incentives to do it so still probably a good idea. It is easy to go back to stock if you decide it is not worth it.

You don't lose anything if you root but as far as I know there's no stock image or way back to stock but I could be wrong.

I think there is a flashcast mod that allows you to receive Google OTA, pretty much meaning that it will overwrite any mods and get you back to stock.

There is a switch to receive the Eureka ROM OTA automatically or not and another use the Eureka ROM or Google whitelist but nothing else.

Correct. Full-stock Google ROM is not posted because it's too easy to make an error - and that particular error would mean losing root with no (current) way to get it back.
tl;dr: Too much danger for people not reading and flashing the wrong one, losing root, then they would whine hard - it's almost as bad as bricking a phone.
In my opinion, any piece of hardware that you own, if you feel confident enough to do so, should be rooted / jailbroken / hacked / cracked open / etc.
Sure, there are a lot of sanctioned apps appearing now that the CC has been thrown wide open, but Google will always have their fingers in the mix. Who knows what some bright developer might stumble onto with a rooted device.

Could not setup Chromecast after factory reset

Hello,
I decided to reset my Chromecast because none of my devices recognised my Chromecast.
So I did an factory reset, but when I set my Chromecast up again it can't communicate with my Chromecast for some reason.
It looks like the last step to connect with my WiFi router is the problem, but I don't know.
How to fix this?
What are the exact messages you're getting?
"Could not communicate with your Chromecast"

This is from the Chromecast setup app, yes?
What does the TV screen show?
The Chromecast setup app has never been 100% reliable for me... The last time I factory reset I had to run through setup 2 or 3 times before it applied properly.
You may want to try the manual setup instead.
+1 also try setup from a different device if you have one. (Laptop, tablet , PC)
One other thing to try is to disconnect from your AP before you try and connect to the CCast.
It is possible on some devices and versions of Android that being connected to an AP interferes with finding and connecting to the CCast AP.

This is from the app, yes. The TV is showing that it is connecting to my WiFi network. I already tried it couple times, but every time the same message.

I'll try this also, thanks. EDIT: Tried it from my N7 2012, got the same message.

Go into the app settings and clear the data. I had problems during a setup as well and that fixed the problem.
I managed to set it up with an iPad. But it's still not recognisable.

So... any differences between the WiFi connection setup on the iPad vs the Android devices?
You don't have your 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands using the same SSID, do you?
Sorry I didn't answered your question, I was on holiday for a week.
I think our router has only 2.4GHz band.
I made some screenshots, maybe it can help, don't know.

Hmm, well at least from Chromecast's perspective it's operating normally.
What's shown on the bottom right of the Chromecast desktop screen?
Only the time, why?

It used to show the SSID of the AP it's connected to, but I can't remember offhand if it still does in the newer (build 14xxx onward) desktop display.

Yes thank you. Something seems wrong though... It's like the device is in a "half" set up state... It doesn't think it needs to be set up, yet isn't connected to wireless.
I would factory reset it again using the button. Maybe the first reset didn't completely reset somehow.
Thanks a lot! I manually reset the Chromecast manually with the button as you said and set it up again. It works now.
A little late here but I can confirm that My Ccast IS connected and yet does not show the SSID or indicate it is connected in anyway on the default screen.
It does indicate when it is in the process of connecting and for some time after it connects but after awhile that indication goes away.
I suspect it has to do with how many pics have changed.
What it does do though is indicate when it does NOT have a connection.
Which wouldn't help you if it managed to connect to the wrong router.
Problems are back again... Today I switched my Chromecast in another TV (Philips), again he saw no network, not recognisable. So resetted my Chromecast again but I can't get trough the setup process now, so I keep trying right now.
Edit:
Do you think to buy a new Chromecast to solve the problem?

Can anyone help me with "cast screen" please? I don't know what's wrong!

Okay, so I have a Chromecast that I bought about a week ago and it worked awesome. I bought it primarily for the screen mirroring on my s4. So it worked for a while but when I go to use it last night, the option to cast my screen is missing entirely from my menu. I tried uninstalling the app and factory reset of my Chromecast. I can't find anyone on the Internet that's having the same problem as me. Can someone please look into helping me fix this? It works fine on my mom's galaxy s4. Thanks in advance.

Go to device settings-apps-all. select Google services framework. Clear data. Clear cache. Reboot phone. Reinstall chromecast app. Go to settings-apps-all. Selelect Google play services. Make sure it is v5.0.89. Launch chromecast app. Do you see cast screen option?

Do you have a backup from when it was working? If yes, restore from backup. If not, take it to your phone provider retail store and see if they can get it working. Your phone is not rooted I hope. Otherwise they won't work on it. It's weird your mom's same model phone works to cast screen and your's not.
Yeah, it's rooted. I'm done. I'm going to flash the stock ROM on it because root has done nothing but mess up my phone. I'm not smart enough to fix things I tinker with. Haha.

What rom & kernel are you using? AOSP based or TW
I'm using stock. I don't know what the other things mean. I haven't changed anything except the status bar using the build prop hack. I even tried reverting to the original build prop and it didn't fix it.
Try power cycling your Chromecast, then go and do the Google Play services flush again after restoring your original build.prop
Alrighty. I'll try that and post my results. Thanks in advance.
Oh my God!!!! That worked. Thank you so much, man!!!! I love my Chromecast.

That is terrible advice. Clearing Google Services Framework can have bad consequences. Especially since it will break any apps that use google's messaging services. For instance, it will stop Gmail notifications for days. Luckily Gmail is one of the few apps that will eventually recover from the key being changed.

Hi, im having the same issue on LG D802 on CloudyG3. could you please explain more about "power cycling the Chromecast" does this mean factory reset my Chromecast device? and how do i "flush Google Play Services"? Cause i still cant find my cast screen option on the app till now
Power cycle means remove power, count to 30, reconnect power.
You shouldn't need to mess with Google Play Services these days.
cant download

Please help
my galaxy s4 is doing the same thing
My casting screen option is gone and I don't know how to get it back either. This is horrible!
+1 on a D801 in the US. Was working on ClloudyG3(1.5?) and I upgraded to 2.1 and had the issue. Was not device specific as my wifes M7 suddenly had the option removed also. Hers came back and mine has not.......
Definitely check the wireless connectivity of Chromecast.
speed4cast can help you benchmark that. If the connection is poor (like in one of my rooms) then Chromecast will intermittently drop off and streaming performance will be very poor, if it works at all.

Can't cast to chromecast

I've tried 3 different Roms, all stock based and one stock and whenever I go to cast to my Chromecast it connects then immediately disconnects. Any ideas? I can cast my nexus9 to it no problem. Also, I cannot connect to android auto. Plug the phone in and all it does is repeatedly flash google play services has stopped until I unplug it. This is on multiple roms stock and AOSP based. Thanks.

Do you have root on your chromecast? I.e., running community modified firmware... if you are, then I have an idea what the problem probably is
I didn't even know that it could be rooted. I don't think it is the Chromecast because my tablet casts to it fine

Ok, then that theory is out the window.
Yes, chromecast can be rooted, IFF you do so *BEFORE* exposing it to the internet and allowing it to update.

Two questions;
1) Have you tried a full wipe of the Nexus 6?
2) Is your N6 properly connecting to your wifi network?
I have not a full wipe, I've been flashing Roms and wiping all but user data in between each one. I've tried to connect before restoring any apps and it still doesn't work. When I get home today I was going to try and do a full factory restore and see if that works. And yes, it connects to my WiFi network just fine.

[SM-N920C] Bluetooth & wifi issue after updating to Marshmallow

Hi,
I have a Note 5 [MODEL SM-N920C], my problem started after updating to Marshmallow. It started with my Bluetooth headset intermittently disconnect from the Note 5 and then noticed that I am connected to a wifi but cannot browse or do anything that needs internet connection.
I tried to research an saw a mention of turning off the Bluetooth to get the WiFi working and it did work. Now the problem is I am stuck with the option of having only 1 (WiFi or Bluetooth) being on as the issue comes back when I use them at the same time.
I tried to reset all network settings to no avail.
Hope someone can help me with my issue.
I did a factory data reset and it work for some time and the problem is now back, :crying:
Is there a way to roll back to Lollipop without tripping Knox?

Hi,
Thank you for the reply, I am also thinking that it might be software related. I am tempted now to do a factory reset and install back the apps that I have 1 by 1 to see which is causing the issue. I might probably try not install anything first to see if it works Ok (probably for 2 to 3 days) then do the 1 by 1 installation of the apps.
