Hi folks, I liked my HTC One M7, I've been using it for 1 year but recently it has to go to to repair because the camera went purple-tint and vibration motor is dead. Based on my experience local technicians has notoriously sloppy work, so I don't expect this phone will be running trouble-free until my biannual upgrade cycle. So I want to sell my One for a new phone while it still has considerable resale value.
I don't think I liked the bigger-is-better screen hip (One is my biggest phone so far), Being able to operate phone with one hand is definite must for me. So HTC One M8 and Nexus 6 should be out of picture. After a bit of research among the crowd of mini-edition of flagships I think Z3 Compact would be a good candidate.
I used Xperia Pro in the past and I liked Sony build quality mostly.
So HTC One former user, what do you miss when upgrading to Z3 Compact?
I have already thinking about a few downsides:
1. (1080p 4.7 in vs 4.6in 720p), also reportedly Z3C compact has issue with collor accuracy and viewing angle
2. Metal vs plastic -- boy I love my One metallic feel and look, but I guess tempered glass and polycarbonate plastic are classy in its own right?
3. IR Blaster - absolute gem for the lazy me. AC, TV, Stereo with One phone to rule them all (pun intended)
4. Speaker - Both has front firing stereo speakers, but it appears One gain the upper hand?
And of course a few niceties:
1. Waterproof.
2. Smaller footprint with essentially same size of screen.
3. Better processor
So what do you think folks? or should I wait for Z4C which basically will come to my country in mid 2015 (back to bi annual cycle)?
Honestly if you don't need the waterproofness then you are just as good staying with the M7 (all though the camera on the Z3C is better)...
I had the M7 for a year too and in everyday use the M7 is matching the ZC3. I like the size of the Sony better though and you will not miss the full HD screen should you choose to do the change anyways...
Put it in respective for you. I had the m8 and was unlocked and s off. Speakers where giving trouble due to work conditions with dust. Changed to the z3 compact and thought I'd miss having root and customs roms. But I'm not I love the size and feel of the phone. And I'm getting 2 days use of the phone which never happened with any android I have. I'm a heavy user though.
Cell reception and WiFi is better than the m8 as well and both are unlocked from factory

Hi mate,
i "upgraded" from M7 to the Z3C. here some infos:
1) i personall find the diplay quality and resolution great with the z3c, i have no complains about the angle or colours, it looks perfect for me.
2) the z3c feels very quality, the "plastic" at the sides looks good and fits perfect with the glass front/back. if its too slippy for you, just buy a cheap rubber case.
3) i didnt need it, as i use a app via wlan for my receiver from the provider
4) the speakers from the M7 are definitely better, the speaker from z3c cant get be that good, as they more turned inside for waterproof. its its loud enough. you have an build in equilizer (the m7 just a switch for Beats Audio), with z3c you have multiple surround modes, sudio modes, effects, bass boost, profiles etc.
The Z3C seems to be more fluend in the user interface, buts that personally. i bought it because of his size.
Only buy it if the size of the M7 doesnt fit to you and keep it mind that the M7 has plenty ROMs and Kernels, but the Z3C has near nothing and you risk lose of DRM keys if you unlock Bootloader.

Z3c is the phone that never gives you anything to think/worry about. It's just there, always ready (up to 3 days use for me) never too big to hold, never too small to read. It never annoys you with unlock lag or stutter while using it, even the camera with its dedicated button feels just good...
With my previous phones I always tried to tinker around and improve this and that. With my z3c I never had that urge. It works just the way I expect it to. If I haven't made myself clear enough: I love it.

Though i would not consider it a necessary upgrade as you already have a nicely running, fast phone.
In your place i would wait at least for the announcement of the new Z generation. If there is a Z4 Compact, i would take a look at the specs and see if it fits your needs. Maybe it gets a metal frame again? Maybe it will get an IR blaster?
I dont think Sony will make their compact series much bigger.Maybe thinner and lighter?
Also the waterproofness will probably stay as it is heavily advertised as such.

I cannot handle the One with one hand. So in handling and feeling the Z3C wins by far. Just using one hand and being able to do anything is just plain awesome.
720p is enough for this screen size and will consume less battery. you cant have it all . Compared to the M7 I only notice the slightly bigger screen.
The screen is bright and sharp, i dont know why anybody really cares about color accuracy on a smart phone. Hell im not doing photoshop with it. Viewing angles are okay, not the best but again , most of the time you are the sole consumer of its content. I dont find myself looking at videos with another person often enough that this may in any way pose a problem or annoy me. Only funny thing i noted is that the screen turns black when i hold my phone in landscape mode and look at it with polarized sun glasses. Funny, must have to do something with the screens technology.
Battery life is very good, like twice the One (though i dont know how his phone is configured, if at all).
Speakers are totally fine but again you have to question what you really need them for. Calls? sometimes. Gaming? Jeah but who REALLY listens to the (mostly annoying) sound when immersed in some heavy gaming. Music? Hell no, I would start to hate my own music, but ppl are different. But in the end you are right the One delivers better especially at higher volume levels.
Phone fells well made and classy, no downside to metal except the One fells more sturdy, the Z3C a bit more need-a-case-fragile. I wont do the real testing though .
As the announcement will happen in the foreseeable future, I would at least wait until you get your phone back from the repair . In my country HTC gives away new phones pretty quick under warranty repair, so maybe youll get a new one. This again could give you a nice resell value.Though i dont know if your repair is under warranty or not.
In the end if I were you i would stay with the M7 a bit and see what the future brings. The resell value of your M7 will drop but so will the price for the Z3C. The ONLY reason i see for you to switch to the Z3C is really the footprint/size and only then when it really, really annoys you. I would never go back and consider myself having found the perfect size in a smartphone with the Z3C.

Cool, I had trouble getting a consistent signal with my One on certain sport, whereas my old Xperia pro is doing just fine. Battery would be a plus

Agreed, when I say "upgrade" it means switch to a more recent phone; built it OEM equalizer sure is nice, I have been fan of Sony's customization since the Mega Bass Era.

Yeah the problem is in my country there is no such thing as "new replacement" (we have weak to non existent consumer protection law). Everything is going to be repaired if possible, even 1 weeks old item. My repair is still covered under warranty, but the problem is loca technician works are sloppy, this is not isolated to HTC, I have experienced this kind of service with various official brand-name repair shop (laptop, tv, phone). In fact my HTC one is returned with a faulty volume button, just yesterday. (I kinda have predicted something like this would happen). So I have to return it back for re-repair.
I hope you get the idea, say if If I wait for Z4 compact I'm honestly afraid if my One decided to act up again in the future (which is likely thanks to imperfect repair job). The repair cost would diminish the resale value! So better be safe than worry, get a new phone, be it lower spec but I have peace in mind.
I can't agree more with using a phone one handedly and doing another things with the other hand. That said I can handle One with one hand just fine.
It isn't terribly nice coming from a good screen to less than good screen, IMO. Regarding speakers in some emulated console game such as Pokemon and Zelda, music and FX are awesome elements.. so nice speaker is nice

I think you are good to go. I also think you wont notice the "downgrade"as regards certain aspects as screen and speakers except in described scenarios. Ignoring the Ir blaster issue of course. Get Nova launcher to get rid of the Sony ui, get a tempered glass Front screen protector a magnetic charger (the "annoying " flap opening for charging was not discussed) and a micro sdcard if you need it and you will be fine. And ensure your phone is water proof with the pressure Sensor Test right when you get your new phone. At least that's what I would do.
Would be Nice to hear your impressions afterwards (since I think you already made up your mind about the switch )

The M7's display is still one of the best. I definitely notice a difference, but the Z3c's is sharp enough that I dont miss the extra pixels. The Sony's DPI is better than my Nexus 7 (2013), which is more than fine for me.
Metal v. Plastic, meh, I prefer that the Z3c doesn't have the sharp edges of the M7. The Sony feels MUCH more comfortable in-hand. As for durability, just don't drop it and you'll be fine
I do miss the IR blaster, but I only used it occasionally. Besides, I have a Harmony, so I'm ok with the loss. You might not be though!
The Sony's speakers are really good, even great, but the M7's are in a different class. On my Sony, the speakers are close to if not as loud as my M7, but the M7 is definitely clearer, with more bass. However, I rarely listen through the speakers. In most situations there are others around me, plus earphones are just so much better anyway, so not a big deal for me.
For me, the SD slot of the Z3c outweighs the better speakers and screen on the M7. 16 gigs is enough for my music and apps. I use a 64 gig card for videos/photos. Feels great! I know the M8 has an SD slot too, but it's just too big for me.
Another big thing for me is the waterproof rating. With kids, being able to take pictures anytime, anywhere is a huge benefit. Now, I can do it with my phone instead of having to carry a waterproof camera.
The only regret I have after making the switch, is that the M7's flashlight app is better, with the 3 brightness levels. Seriously. That's it. For everything else, I'm loving my Z3c!

just wanna ask if the lousy build quality is normal for the Diamond. I've yet to see one that is problem free - and I had half a dozen in hands.
Mostly the dpad is not level and one edge lifts up.
Then often the power button is not level.
Then I've seen that the stylus does not get sucked in completely as it should be by the magnet.
And finally I've seen that the battery cover does not close completely (leveling at the top end) and come off very easily?
Given the fact that I only paid 290 Euros for my brand new Diamond and the features it packs I can endure a lot.
But given the fact that I know HTC from devices like the Qtek S110 I'm really dissapointed.
The build quality of HTC seemed to have gone downhill by a lot - Diamond problems like the one noted, Touch HD color peel off, Xperia X1 cracks and color peel.
What the heck are those chinese doeing? Do they think because they are the only ones building WM phones these days customers are willing to put up with such crap???

I know for a fact that all brands are not built in the same plant. Having said that, the quality should be equal where ever they're built
i have the MDA version and the build quality on it is good. Nothing sticking out of uneven.
I've only tested HTC's own devices. And I've yet to see one that is free of flaws. Even the new D2 has problems like dust under the screen etc.

All I can say then Mr Cowboy, is that you've been damn unlucky. I've been using HTC devices since 2001, and I've had one device in all that time which I could fit in your 'duff' catergory?!
Actually, HTC are Taiwanese.
Apart from the obvious xenophobia, I have also noticed that one edge of the D-pad is raised, allowing the light to leak through. I'm a bit disappointed - the Diamond is my first HTC device, and one of the reasons I bought it was hearing how good the build quality generally was on HTC phones.
Well some say Taiwan is still China. Besides that I've used HTC devices for quite a few device generations. The best one prolly was my magician - rock solid and still runs strong with no signs of any wear.
The Diamond on the other hand simply does not feel solid and clearly shows what I would describe as cost reduction effects. If you treat the Diamond as a ... device you prolly don't care. And I don't do either very much because I got mine recently very cheap (because the D2 was sitting right besides the D1 in the store the D1 was sold for less then 300 Euros).
You get a mighty good load of features for less then 300 (my old Eten X500 had cost me double that) so I don't wanna complain too much. But I feel that I'd be prepared to pay another 100 for solid build quality (metal casing etc).
I've taken a very close look at other HTCs on display in various stores around town and all of them had at least minor flaws. The black X1s already showed color peel off like the Touch HD and even the display unit of the D2 had visible dust under the screen - and I don't think it was on display for very long.
That said I think the Diamond will be my last HTC. The features are great but I simply like a bit more solidity. I exchange my own Diamond twice to end up with one that I can half way live with - first one had a stylus problem (not sucked in properly) and a power button problem (wouldn't turn own sometimes - maybe because the power button was not level and did not press properly), the second one had a royally screwed dpad (bent inwards on the right side and lifting up on the left side) and non-fitting battery cover and the third only has a bit of the pad lifting up on the right side (not as much as the second).
I looked through 6 stores in town and my percentage of a 100% perfect HTC was - 0%, none, nada.
Maybe german stores only get the crap productions because germans usually don't complain much, who knows. ;-)
I even have a X1 lying around here (ordered because I was thinking about returning my Diamond) but I'll return the X1 instead. The X1 is also HTC meaning it's disaster (cracks and/or peeling) in the making and I'm not prepared to pay a 170 Euros on top of my Diamond for that.
On the other hand build quality in general has gone downhill as it seems. Even coworkers of mine complain about the shoddy build of there iPhone-Toys. And they paid much much more than I did for my Diamond. Maybe the X2 will be what I'm looking for given the fact it's made by Foxconn/Asus.

Prove it. Carrier brand snobbery is not going to get us anywhere.
I don't believe that either. For one HTC might be THE defacto PDA-monopolist but generall they are a rather small company. I don't think they have a lot of plants all over Taiwan.
And why should carrier devices should be build with higher 'tolorances'? Some carrier devices can be built a bit more solid - like the XDA Diamond given the different back cover - when they are changed from the original.
Now that I had enough time to play with the Sony Xperia T, I can give you my impressions about the new flagship phone of the Japanese manufacturer. There are already a lot of reviews and comparisons on the Internet so I will just tell my personal feelings about the phone. From the beginning I have to tell you that I am not a Samsung fan (although they do great hardware, the design is crap and the interface is ugly) nor an Apple fan (as some say it is built for people with average to low IQ).
Coming back to Xperia T, the size and weight are OK, even though some people are complaining is heavy, I don’t have that problem, it fits well in my pocket. The material on the back side is also good, having good adherence with your hands. Power and volume buttons are placed on the right side (well placed for right handed people, I am not sure if left handed people are confortable with this).
Camera is one of the best features the Xperia T is having, you can shoot great pictures in 13 megapixels. What really stands out is the speed of the camera: in lock mode you can press the camera button and in less than 1.5 seconds you have the first shot. Don’t worry, the camera button is not easy to press in the pocket.
USB port supports also HDMI output and I was able to connect a USB to HDMI adaptor from Samsung to connect the phone to the TV (your TV must support HDCP). You need to connect the charging adaptor in order for this to work (but I guess this is the same for the Sony TV dock) and will keep you the phone charged. The good thing is that I have a Bluetooth keyboard (with touchpad) that I can connect to the phone and while connected to the TV i can really use the phone as normal PC! This feature probably works with other phones as well. Video output is 1080p so the quality on phone screen and TV is great. If you want to connect the phone to the car USB (for charging the phone or playing the music) you need to set USB to Mass Storage mode (MSC) in Settings - Xperia - Connectivity - USB connection mode.

I have had my SXT since saturday now and I think it is a great phone but there is quite a few negative points it has.
So let me get to them:
*the camera still has that issue of being slow to focus sometimes and in video aswell which means you still miss shots which really jarred me when i had the sxs.
*the speaker for earpiece and loudspeaker should have been louder as outside you cant hear the phone ring and you can barely hear what people are saying on the phone
*you can barely see the notifcation light unless the phone is directly infront of you
*Battery life is average, doesnt last a day under moderate usage, lasts about 20 hours

I actually like the fact that notification LED light is low with my Arc it was like a night lamp.
20 hours are enough for one day. During night I'm always charging the phone
For the earpiece and loudspeker I have to disagree, at least I didn't have such issues. for ringing I am using also vibrating mode
Earpiece and speaker seriously could be louder and the notification light could have been better, in these three aspects they have taken a backwards step from the xperia s imo.
As I use headsets for calls anyway phone calls isn't a issue.
The ARCs notification light was stupid as it was on the side of the phone which imo was pointless also.
Other than that I really enjoy my SXT.

I agree. I also barely see that notification light. On XPERIA S when I put it on charger notification light was lighting like flash. I had to cover it over night because notification light was so bright. Maybe something between notification light on XPERIA T and XPERIA S would be good.
When the light is poor camera is slow on focus almoust every time but outdoor over day everything is OK.
Everything else is excellent and no complaints.

Thanks for the info on the camera focus, however I wish SONY would fix that because my HOX focuses straight away in low light and so did the S3. Also I didn't mind the brightness of the LED on the xperia s, the sgs3 or my hox. I like it like that means I can just look over at my phone and see if i have a text or something at night as my phone has to be on silent as not to wake my daughter. As it is I have to pick the phone up and check.
Aside from that yea I really love my SXT and am looking forward to the Yuga or whatever it is going to be called.

Im currently using HTC One V and planning to buy HTC One S, but unfortunately HTC One S in my region is theSnapdragon S3 version. so I'm thinking to buy this phone instead. one thing that bothering me is that it doesn't have a Gorilla Glass display (plastic body is OK). so my question is the Shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass on it's screen is as durable as Gorilla Glass screen? I like the phone in general. the other things that I like about this phone are community suport, official CM support etc.

I like the phone in general. the other things that I like about this phone are community suport, official CM support etc.

It sort of is. The screenprotector (shatter-proof sheet) that is on there by default scratches easier than Gorilla Glass, but the glass itself is really quite durable!

thanks for the reply. do you think the phone still requires an additional screen protector? and what about a case/soft jacket etc, since the back cover is plastic, do you think it needs a case? (I'm afraid to squeeze it in my jean's pocket), but I can put this on my jacket though to prevent that. I'm going to buy it tomorrow (3 youtube videos make me love this phone):good:.
The Xperia T is the first phone where I've ever used the stock keyboard it comes with... I think its brilliant and so easy to type on.
There's lots of things I love about the phone, I do wish the notification LED was bigger however but meh... some phones don't even have one!
Thanks for the mini review of the Xperia T. I'm itching to purchase this baby, but will wait a few more days. The Xpera T will be an upgrade in terms of smartphone OS transition. Coming from a Nokia N8 handset, I don't feel the XT will be a huge upgrade seeing how the N8 is still the best camera phone as of this day and the 13MP on the XT, as stated by many reviews, just isn't that great (camera quality and dedicated camera button are huge decision makers for me).
Heck, every friend who played with my N8 thought it was running Android OS. :victory:

Hi. Wellcome aboard N8 refugee. Been using it for about 7 hours now. You will not notice any lag whatsoever. The Krait processor is awesome. I bought this phone just because it has Snapdragon S4 processor, I don't use camera that much. The notification light issue is not a big deal for me.

My Xperia T still hasn't arrived (FedEx ) but my Xperia S has the same display type and I'd never cover it with yet another screen protector.
Just use it as it comes. The default screen protector will last you quite some time. I've had my Xperia S since the day of release, 8 months now and my display is still near-perfect. When you've got scratches on the display you just remove the "shatter-proof sheet" and replace it with your own screen protector and your display is as good as new!
Again, no experience with the T, but on my Xperia S the (probably significantly less rough) back got some glossy spots from the friction in my pockets. But the material is completely different so I can't say how the T will fare here...

Guys,
My wife is still using the X10 with the original screen protector. It is very good. I did the mistake to remove it from my old X10 and no other screen protector was good enough. But the screen was excellent even without screen protector. My advice is to keep it there, I have it on the Arc since 1.5 years and it's still OK.

You see, I currently have an LG G2, because I felt it was the best phone I could get at the time. But recently, after many drops, the screen finally cracked and half the touch screen doesn’t work.
I guess many of you would call it “normal”, especially if I drop it that much but, well... the thing is I hate myself for buying such a big phone, as slim as it is. Seriously, I was blinded by ALL the other cool stuff, and forgot I got kinda small hands. Even after several drops I didn’t want to believe it, but when the screen cracked, at that moment, I knew it. That phone is awesome in all senses, but the size is definitely against me.
Now, I’ve been reading about the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact a lot, since it’s practically all I will ever need, but I’m curious...
Since It’ll be released in my country at the beginning of December, should I get it? I mean, I’ve also noticed these companies got a hell of a short release cycle now, and I notice these chips it comes with have been out for a while, so... should I wait for a revolutionary Z4 Compact, or should I get the Z3 Compact now and be done with it? Once I get a phone, I’m practically married for life with them. I even barely change their ROMs because usually I get much better battery life and stability with Stock. Even for my HTC Desire I only started flashing it after year and a half.

PS: I already bought the repair kit for the LG G2, but I will end up giving the whole thing away to a cousin, that’s why I’m looking for a new option. I never bought protector because, well, the phone would lose its slim profile.

you need a new phone, so buy the one that appeals most and is available now. Don't get sucked into the tech waiting game, because there will always be a new and better model just around the corner.
i have to agree, do not get into the tech waiting game, waiting for the next greatest phone. i will tell you after having this phone over a very short time, i;ll give you my thoughts...
- it's slippery as any phone in the history of phones
- the battery is a beast. the only reason i really left my Moto X (13) was because i need a full 16 hours of full on use without having to run back to a hotel to charge for 30 minutes. forget what any one says, take it from me, i use this phone for work and the battery is a beast. i would be at 14% on my Moto X by 8pm, it's now 11pm and im now at 63%. a beast.
- it feels rough and smooth at the same time. it definitely feels high end.
- camera quality and the video quality (even the 4k) is well... it's fine, just fine. it's definitely above and beyond any camera i have ever had on a phone. probably the best phone-camera you can get without going iPhone.
- sony pre-installed apps are not a problem and the 75% of them can be removed. i bought mine straight from sony so, no carrier logos anywhere and no carrier bloatware.
- i got mine in black. it always looks like it's doing something even when it's sitting still.
- i miss the 'always on' of the Moto but, not a big deal.
- speakers are decent, thought they'd be a bit louder, but call quality is exceptional. exceptional. (im on ATT in a big city on the east coast). i just yanked my nano-sim out of my Moto X and dropped it right in and instant LTE.
- i love it. and i've come from multiple HTCs (Desire, Sensation), the Galaxy Nexus, the Moto X. i've been waiting years to find a reason to get a Sony phone (i really want a Nokia Android). this model is everything i wanted.
- perfect size, did not want a 5"+ screen phone.
- again, the battery is a beast.
and the only real con so far... the Sony dialer just sucks. heh, it's really bad.

It really is terrible. Every time I have to make or receive a call I cringe when I see that clunky design :crying:
Alright, just ordered the White one. I was going to go Black, but in a lot of videos you could clearly see all nudges and fingerprints.
Offtopic question: isn’t there something to avoid fingerprints and such to appear all over a surface? I’m curious as if the anti-liquids sprays that are sold these days would repel them.
no. you'll get used to always having fingerprints. that's the beauty of this phone. it's too sexy to hold...
There are sprays, but didn't read anything positive about them.
I have not used it on a phone but it stops fingerprints on
Stainless Steel and is a coating for glass.
It's called Raindance sold in Auto Stores it comes in a
Non Aerosol Spray
BUT do not spray onto phone, spray a little onto a lint free paper towel then rub on let dry buff lightly.
It's made for auto windshields, will work.
But DON'T SPRAY IT ON THE PHONE.
and close the Ports.
Put it on like a Polish.

Yeah , I have not bought the Z3 C yet either and I noticed that dialer screen is very stark and plain and.ugly...lol.
Can that be changed in Android L ?
Also on AT&T -(I would be on Metro /Tmo) are you getting text and MMS messages quickly ?
Alright, got me a White one.
Even with Wi-Fi enabled, it almost hits the two days mark. I’m trying now with just LTE all the time and Wi-Fi only for application updates and stuff like that.

Glad you got one. I too came from an LG G2, though mine isn't broken. Well, it was stuck in a boot loop after I tried loading a custom ROM, so I got the Z3 Compact. Now that I've recovered the the G2, I'm going to sell it off.

I don't have a Z3 C .....yet
BUT I strongly suspect that the Windshield Repellant Hydrophobic coating sold at Auto Stores called
Raindance will work well.
Spray on Lint free paper towel just Damp.
Do not wet down phone with it, use tiny amount, then repeat.
Again do not put liquid on the Phone.
Put on rag lightly or paper towel, then onto glass, wipe on, let dry, then rub with clean rag or paper towel.
It repels water and fingerprints .

I'm looking for a new device, as my Note 1 looks like it's about to join the big charger in the sky.
I know the basics - large screen, good battery & processor, meh resolution etc. Judging form the specs and reviews I've read, it looks like a good fit for me.
What I'd like to know is if you'd recommend buying it for long term use (I'm not one to change phones every year), and if there are issues with the phone you think I should know about.
It's a great phablet. Fast, comfortable and bug free. Battery seems to last forerver. Feels solid yet slippery in the hand, and close to impossible to use one handed. You won't feel the difference made by the 720p resolution after a few hours. Color reproduction is great and the screen is sharp and bright.
Coming from the note 2, i see only 3 downsides In the flex.
1. The camera. Real slow to focus indoors, produces lots of noise in dark areas... Sometimes i cant determine where the focus point is. Perfect daylight and closeups though.
2. Lack of development. This phone is locked down tight, so if you love to flash like me, it's a disappointment.
3. No cases, no glass screen protectors. Almost. You can still find them around ebay and amazon, but not as much stuff a samsung would have.
On the bottom line this is a great mid-high range phone, and for the right price, and the right mind it will do.

Oh, one more thing - some users had an issue with ghosting or after images on the screen. Anyone had this problem? How widespread is it?

It really is a matter of luck... Some of the phones were bad from factory.. You have something like that, you'll get it replaced with your warrenty.
If you want to keep it long term and lack of updates (and also latest apps) will bug you then I suggest Nexus 6 over it. My dad has this phone and I have the nexus, dont get me wrong g flex is a nice phone but starting to fall back in technology and will likely not get updates for 2+ years
hi, after two years of good service my z1c screen has a crack in it which makes upper part pf my screen unuseable. So i am thinking of buying the z3c but then i read all the reports about (spontaneous) cracks on front and back. I try to get an objective view on this but this is quite difficult. How often is this happening? If i read amazon.com comments most people seem happy. If i read german amazon comments, much mure people complain about broken screens... What do you suggest i do? I was looking at alternatives like htc mini 2 but one of the things i really dont want to give up is the battery capacity! Your opinion?

I was in the same situation 1 month ago. Galaxy alpha was the only compact alternative, but i didnt want to give up my almost 4 years old sgs2 with 16+32 gb storage for fixed 32gb, not to mention battery capacity. So i called a service that replaces the fronts and backs of new phones, and they told me not to buy sony, because they are overhelmed with their handsets. So, i went and got myself a Z3C
I ordered 0.3mm glass for front and 3 different cases for back (using cheap silicon case with screen protection atm) to make it as safe as i can - so far everything is working as it should, and i'm very happy with it
Btw, glass on the back is 13$, front digitizer is 33$, and whole front with display is around 170$ (parts only)
Camera glass (which is plastic actually) is 4$, but its not easy to replace any of these. I also got myself a magnetic cable to minimize the use of flaps for usb port.
Thats about it... I also read many bad reports about spontaneous cracks, but decided to try my luck... As i said before, so far - so good

You get the gamble of an issue with every phone, but there'd be a call back if there was a wide spread complaint that exceeded a high enough number. That said yeah, there's a fair number of reports but most people are happy - it's unlucky people that aren't for obvious reasons.
I cracked my Xperia Z (C6603) and wondered if it was time to upgrade, or repair it. The repair cost would've been 280$ for a legitimate repair (I don't like buying third-party materials), and buying a new one would've been 350$. Since the Z3C was out and I found the Z too big for my hand anyway (Barely reach notifications when holding it), I figured I'd sell my cracked one (the current eBay est was roughly 100$), and 550$ for the Z3C in my country.
Since the Z3C was pretty much a no brainer if you want quality + hardware (All 'compact' variants don't compare spec wise) so I jumped in, and about 2 months I think now and my phone has been perfect to me besides the Cyanogen I'm using.
Figured the 100$ of selling the Z could effectively 'make up' what I paid for the Z3C... if I'd sold it. Still on my desk.
So maybe you can sell your old, cracked phone and 'save' with a Z3C. If you want compact, honestly there's no better choice if you're looking to upgrade.
If you want to save then you can always just get a repair or sell and rebuy a new Z1C.
If I were you, I'd assume that you'll get a perfect phone that wont ever crack unless you drop it. Weigh the other factors; Save Money or Upgrade.
If you aren't having any performance issues with anything like games, why bother upgrading?
Just like with any device, if something goes wrong, people write about it. I've had zero problems with my device, and I have not started any threads stating so. If the screen does spontaneously crack, you should be able to get it repaired or replaced under warranty, so why avoid it?
This is the best phone you can get under 5 inches. The performance is top notch, the battery life is amazing, the camera is just okay, but its waterproof and isn't bogged down by a heavy skin like Touchwiz. It's not a flawless phone, but none are! Even the fan favorite iPhone has it's issues (too slippery, camera lens that sticks out, large bezel around screen, poor battery life).
Get what works for you and don't look back!
