[Q] Stuck on HTC dec screen - Sprint HTC One (M8)

I have an HTC once M8 HK edition. Running the philz version of cwm. I tried to install a wifi hotspot enabling zip file and this caused my device to be unable to access the sprint LTE network at all. since the .zip was flashed, the factory data reset through cwm wont fix the problem. I tried reinstalling the rom but now cannot get past the HTC dev only startup screen. Fastboot/ recovery options are however still accessible. I think the problem could be easily solved by flashing a backup via sdcard. However, I do not have a working backup for cwm. If someone has a solution or a backup I could use that would put me back to cwm stock that would be awesome!

Hold power+volume up. When the screen goes black release power+volume up and hold the volume down button until the bootloader menu appears. Load a ROM onto your SD card, then boot into recovery from the bootloader menu. Reflash your ROM.

I tried doing that. That's what made it worse. Perhaps I went about it the wrong way or used a bad rom. Suggestions for a good one would be appreciated.

It has worked great up until today. fully unlocked with SU permissions. All I really need is a rom/ clockworkmod recovery backup file that works.

Try a TWRP recovery and see if it fixes your problem is what im asking, not debating which is better or how well it functions

oh sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm also having an issue because since i updated my computer to windows 8.1 my htc drivers are no longer working to allow usb debugging. So far I'm having to operate purely from an sdcard. Is it possible to flash a twrp or a stock rom from an sd card and if so could you walk me through it? I've tried finding updated drivers, but cannot find a working link. Im currently downloading the odexed hk rom from androidcentral to see if that fixes things.

Download correct recovery.img from Teamwin then find the correct android.txt and zip the two in a folder which you will name 0P6BIMG put on root of external sdcard and boot to bootloader, itll recognize the zip folder and ask you to update, press vol up to update it, reboot phone, remove zip from external sdcard and then boot to recovery

These are the drivers I use and recommend.
I would be kinda leary of using roms from another site...not because they might be bad but because you will most likely get better support here on XDA if something goes wrong.

First off are you s-off? If you're s-on I know what your problem is.
Secondly the recovery of your choice is fine. It's highly unlikely that that is the cause of the issue.

I managed to get a version of 4.4.4 installed via sdcard but it is not a good version. it still has a lot of quirks. namely
it stays on the "htc powered by android" screen until it fully boots and you unlock it (which is rather difficult as it is on the wrong screen) and then the screen times out (it does not allow you to manually shut off the screen with the power button until first timeout). After the timeout everything is normal from what I can see barring that the wifi will not turn. Also I believe I am s-off.

Thank you guys so much for your patience. I have confirmed that I am s-on (thought I went s-off but I guess I never got around to it). I've downloaded the firmware you recommended. I will be switching to s-off and updating hboot/ firmware within the next few days. Hopefully that fixes things. Thanks again!

3.41 bootloader info from google support

Well I decided to call Google about the boot loader recovery not working as it should. I was hoping this call would help them to work on another update but they say that's the way its supposed to work. Here's the email Instructions:
1. Power down your device
2. Press and hold both volume keys and the power button to enter
Bootloader mode
3. Press the volume keys to cycle to the Recovery mode option
4. Press the power button to select Recovery mode
5. From the Recovery mode screen, press and hold the Power button then
press the Volume up button.
6. Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset.
7. Select Yes -- delete all user data.
8. The factory data reset process will now start. Once its finished,
select 'Reboot system now.'
The only option we have in the new recovery is to wipe data. Maybe for those having problems accessing twrp or cwm will be able to a access it with step 5. I don't know haven't rooted yet. So I decided to ask about nvflash and they said they're not going to release any nvflash tools or files.
um, yup. thats how stock bootloader and stock recovery work. lol
whats the issue? if your not even rooted, you wouldn't even know if you have an issue or not with the new bootloader.
Are you saying that you can't flash a different recovery? Or that when you do you still get the same stock recovery? I'm not quite sure what the issue is here, because that is exactly how the stock bootloader, and recovery are supposed to work.
Are you making sure to unlock fastboot before trying to flash recovery. I don't recall seeing or hearing anyone say anything about not being able to get to clockwork mod once its installed.

No. I saw people posting they couldn't get go cwm and could only see the red exclamation point. And I was just saying maybe after choosing recovery then holding volume up and power it would then go to cWm or twrp. I was hoping for someone to try it who is still on 3.41 Recovery. A lot of people downgraded back to 3.39 or whatever version it was

I can confirm that to get in to the stock recovery you hold down 'power' and then tap 'vol up'.
At present I am running the latest CWM touch recovery. This boots straight into it from the bootloader without any extra button presses.
My personal preference to go into CWM is from either QuickBoot or ROM Manager.

I wonder why some on 3.41 can't go straight to twrp and some can. Sorry for the ahole comment I thought you were trying to be a smartass towards me. When I first flashed TWRP onto my Nexus 7 after that official 4.1.2 OTA update, I wasn't able to boot into it. I then flashed it again via fastboot, and then booted the TWRP image that was on my computer, and then TWRP loaded.
I believe TWRP does work normally now as well (I can boot into it and reboot into it).

Well if I was you I'd just use mskips toolkit, its absolutely epic it'll save you a lot of farting around. I take it that your fully updated? ( Not that it matters) You seem to know and understand your way around adb so just go for it and enjoy.
Its works smooth as silk and save you a lot off time. The options available to you are just staggering!

going to recovery from bootloader works fine after 3.41.....wat r u talkin abt? (i m stock rooted+twrp)
oh yea...u hav 2 remove that recovery stock.p file thingy first.
There are plenty of people that are having issues with recovery on 3.41 bootloader.... Its confirmed some have it some don't.
The issue is that with 3.41 bootloader on some Nexus 7 Devices a custom recovery is unbootable no matter how you try, every time it will try to load recovery and fail at a black screen then reboot into the OS. It does not matter how you try from ADB reboot to recovery or from bootloader with USB attached or not.

In your system folder there's a file called 'recovery-from-boot.p'
Go into a file manager with w/r access and rename it ' recovery-from-boot.p.bak'
When the system boots it reads that file and resets the recovery to stock, by changing the name you remove the problem.

[Q] HTC One M7 stuck in boot loop

Hi,
I used Hasoon's all in one tool to successfully unlock the bootloader on my One, and flashed a recovery (TWRP).
When I went to install a kernel (Bulletproof) I messed up and installed the boot.img file from bulletproof instead of loading it through recovery (dumb i know).
Now my phone just constantly reboots itself, it gets to the HTC splash screen for less than a second, and then reboots again. Holding down power + volume down does nothing either.
Can anyone help or suggest anything please?

Try holding just volume down. Do you know how to use ADB? if you time it right a fastboot reboot-bootloader will get you to bootloader or you can do it through the all in one toolkit you will have to close the first window at the right time and it will send the command for you.
And some light reading pertaining to your issue

Well looks like it's time to learn.
First thing that just might make this easy. In the all in one under commands there is Erase Cache. Click on that hit the ok button and then close the first window. Next windows will say waiting for device now with a little luck upon one of the reboots it will catch the device and wipe the cache. That should then allow you to hold volume down and get into the bootloader. If not let me know and we will proceed to option 2
Read through those threads and the first one was the closest to my problem.
Tried the Boot into Bootloader and Erase Cache commands from the All in One tool and both just give me "device not detected" errors. Tried them multiple times during the phone booting up, but its not even being detected by my PC.
I can't even turn the bloody thing off it just sits there on my desk buzzing every time to restarts itself.

Sorry watching the google IO man some cool new things are coming :good:
Ok now down to business. I am guessing your computer is all set up and you have drivers as you already installed a recovery. So do to the all in one toolkit then go into the data folder once there hold down Ctrl and shift and right click on empty space. You will get a option to Open Command Windows Here do that. A black dos command box will pop up. type
fastboot reboot-bootloader
it should say waiting for device
Nevermind that's not going to work. Try this when your phone is starting up hold the power button until screen goes black then immediately hold down volume down and don't let go. Try with the phone plugged in to computer and without

I left the phone in the office overnight and it must have drained the battery enough to kill the boot loop. Was able to get to the bootloader screen this morning when I checked before leaving for work.
So reflash recovery you think or should I factory reset it and start again?

I would reflash custom recovery do it a couple times and after that wipe the cache. Power down the device and then turn it back on and go to recovery.
Make sure it has a decent charge on it like 30%, 50 would be best.

Use CWM because at this point you are going to have to sideload the ROM. So find the ROM you want and download it. Then rename it to rom.zip then from the all in one go to side load a rom and in clockwork mod go to the same thing might be under advanced.

Installing a custom kernel on top of an unmodified stock ROM is a very bad idea. You don't have to go full custom like TrickDroid or ARHD, but there are rooted/somewhat modified stock ROMs available to use.

If that's what you originally did then that's what caused this to happen. You can not install a custom kernel on a stock Rom. Unremarked is 100% correct. Also check the Rom to make sure it supports a custom kernel. Trick droid is nice coupled with a custom kernel you can use the HTC logo for a menu button

So....

Been doing some more reading and I think I'll go with the Renovate ROM, so I should just need to install a recovery again and then sideload the ROM?

[Q] HTC One, transfer problems

Hey,
I'm completely lost at this point. I recently got a new HTC One from Bell in Canada. Everything was fine before I decided to root it. I followed all the steps thoroughly in Mike's guide and everything was fine. My phone was rooted, unlocked and had a custom recovery. I ran into a problem when I tried to place a Custom ROM onto my phone. First, Windows kept giving me the error that the device stopped responding when I was trying to place the .zip onto the virtual SD card. Then it began showing a progress bar which did not move at all and the file wasn't being transferred. I've tried to troubleshoot through several other threads but unfortunately found no answers.
HTC One displays that I have zero available storage in the "Storage" section of the Settings app. I have tried to transfer files with both HTC Sync Manager and uninstalling it while just using the Windows drivers. I have also tried to do it with USB debugging on and off.
I'm hoping someone can help me, thank you in advance.
settings app?
just right click the file and select send to htc one
I can't. Like I said in my original post, Windows either says the device isn't responding or the progress bar just doesn't move.

[Q] I think some help is needed in urgency and wisdom

Hi everyone
After a lot of reading i decided to install a ROM. Now i was able to try to but none of them worked, so i ve been trying now for 3 days. I think i did it all as stated in this forums, it launched but never go to really open the OS, used to get stuck at the motorola or nexus logos or what ever logo from the different ROMs i downloaded.
I was able to go back to the original ROM but today im not being able to do so...
What can i do? Im at recovery and im able to restore boot but at system it says:Error while restoring /system!
I had it backedup at pc so i have also removed the one at sd card and tried with the one from PC.
What can i do (that doesnt involve getting another phone)
You can try RSDLite to flash back stock ROM just be careful and flash right ROM, otherwise you can brick your phone. You can't flash custom ROMs with RSD.

Boot the phone into bootloader/fastboot?
You have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed? I assume you have both since you were trying to install custom ROMs.
I have tried to the fastboot... im trying AP fastboot and theres where i am stuck right now.
Yes custome recovery and unlocked bootloader there. I had the phone moved to another couple of roms but the never loaded correctly so i went back to my original ROM, i tried a few other ROMs and none worked so this time i try to go back but it doesnt come back anymore...
Try downloading PhilzAdvanced CWM Recovery. It is based off the latest CWM and should be able to flash your backups or ROMS. Maybe not your backups unless you made them with a CWM based recovery, but it should get you booted up.

1. Read the Myth Tools OP
2. Download Myth Tools
3. Download Philz CWM
4. Download a stock fastboot
5. Place the fastboot zip and the extracted recovery/cwm.img in their respected folders
6. Run Myth's executable and follow the instructions
7. If that doesn't work then read the faqs here and in the RAZR HD forums, all your questions have been answered already.
Still with same issue...
Phone is not recognized by the computer (tried 3 different laptops)
Cannot download the Drivers as its an automated process that begins when you connect the phone...
Does anyone knows an alternative to install AHD drivers ?

Again, my main issue device not detected by pc... so i cant download drivers using automatic tools that detects the phone because again phone is not detected and mythtools goes straight to the motorola device manager which needs a phone connected to act... so in a very bad circle i am... and i would try to use someone else phone but here in Costa Rica i know of noone else with a Motorola phone... everyone thinks it no longer exists... and i havent found a way to download the specific drivers for my specific device in a way it doesnt require to be connected.
You can boot into recovery? If so download the latest philztouch cwm recovery, put it on your sd card, and flash it from recovery. Then flash the ROM you want.

Nice i managed to flash the philztouch recovery... the damn phone doesn't want to accept any ROM... keeps aborting them. So far thanks a lot... ill read like crazy today again and ill ask for help if failure salutes me again!
:highfive:
If you made a backup of your stock after rooting try flashing that and then hooking your phone up to your pc

It finally works
It works... i think somehow the recovery stopped working at some point... now with Philz phone was recognized by pc and i was able to use Myth tools to do the job. I think this will be my last Motorola...
Things to highlight:
1 i did read a lot before doing anything, still somehow screwed up, did read lots before asking here, still needed to ask... got answers, still needed to ask more... it was fun as everyone at work said: " its bricked fool buy a new one and stop playing to be good at something" but hell yeah its fixed!
2 i will try again to install another rom, i wont give up damn it!
3 i might begin with my wife Note 1, its old so its ok to brick it ha ha ha
4 damn it guys you are cool... wish i were 10% of you guys!
5 I think instead of all those different options out there we should recommend only to use the myth tools, its a complete package and its easy to use even with examples for newbies like me.
Again thanks and questions on friday after i brick it again e he he he...
The other stuff is there so you can understand what the automated stuff is actually doing.

Ok so i have started the process again. I cant tell what i am doing wrong. I have flashed 2 different roms and none worked... its like im missing something.
I root the device, unlock bootloader... set the recovery with cwm... flash the rom... and it goes to moto logo and then black screen... am i missing something?
I did the exact same for the stock rom and it did work... also i did it all exactly the same using now myth tools... so any ideas? Should i leave the phone alone because its just simply not going to work or am i missing anything?

I have a paperweights, help...

I have root and unlocked bootloader. I did an update of lg and thereafter blocked, do not know if this was the problem.
Install the CWM by room (room enox iodak08 +), I can enter the bootloader, installing, when reboot the sistem entering the boot but does not start with the system and back to CWM after being taken. I can not get into the room and I can get into CWM. I've done factory reset and wipecache, I returned instal to the room, and nothing, enters the boot but does not start with the room.
I'm in a tricky situation, I stopped to have a mobile phone and I stick one paperweights. Need a little help.

As always - flash a kdz and start from scratch if you can't get it working. And ... SEARCH

Install or reinstall latest drivers from LG and try again when it does'nt work change usb port or try it on other PC.
Good Luck..
as I am in CWM recovery, removed the sd card and put a room.zip and flash. Did the installation but when "reboot sistem" back to cwm recovery.
The problem is that the Phone was locked into CWM recovery. And I have no way to recognize the phone on PC. Is there any way to unlock the CWM recovery v6.0.4.5?

no. boot into s/w mode and flash kdz. there are plenty of guides. if your pc cant detect your phone while it's in s/w mode, then reinstall drivers

It has been stated time and time again that your must NEVER carry out a vendor OTA on a rooted or modified device. It causes a problem 90% of the time as the OTA has no flexibility to deal with something it isn't expecting to find - so you get exactly what you have.
Just be thankful that it is almost impossible to hard-brick our device or you really would have a paperweight. Instead you just need to search and read a little to get it back up and running.

You need to get your PC to recognise the phone, thats the first step in this repair (unless the usb port is broken, there's no reason why it wont recognise, whats your OS and version, usb 2 or 3?)
why not put cm10.1 on a microsd and flash it from there?

it still won't work, after upgrading it ota while having custom recovery installed, a person will be locked to recovery for some reason (atleast other people were). the only way to fix it that i know of is to reflash a kdz

cmon, pay some attention you don't need to turn on the phone, or boot into the system itself to boot into s/w mode. now, there are tons (like 3 or 4 guides, plus many other topics opened by people with exact same problem like you) threads that tell you what to do (hint: figure out how to boot into s/w mode), so i'll let you search around for the guide.
I suggest using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2682146
It's easier, faster and safer than flashing a .kdz file. (Plus, it tells you how to get into the s/w upgrade mode!)
Greetings from my Nexus 7 FHD!

I think this method also flashes a kdz, but does it automatically for you. But yeah, this one is easier than manually flashing. Thanks for posting it
Also, thiy method will format internal sd card. My suggestion is to do a data/system format from cwm before you go in to flashing a kdz, either manually or automatically, so you don't end up with formatted internal sd card
A big thanks to SimonTS, JoinTheRealms, Flying_Bear and balloon27. This is a fantastic forum and you guys are spectacular. Due to professional reasons only going back to the forum after seven days, I go to the sea and I'm without net. Got this getaway just to thank you for the care provided, the mobile phone is the same and will just touch it after a week. Once again, thank you very much.
I just make the process advised by balloon27 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2682146). I have my 4X hd back .... yupi, yupi, yupi, yupi, yupi, ..... you guys are just the greatest. Once again a big thank you all of you. The 4X HD is working like a charm, a thank-you to the forum.
