Hi,
I got the moto x xt1058, can I flash the developper factory image for the xt1053 so i get the developper edition and get the update faster?
Thank you.
Sure if your bootloader is unlocked. All Moto Xs are technically developer editions, the one difference is the unlock codes will not be provided for the Verizon and AT&T versions.

A few things to consider...
The Developer Edition does NOT get updates faster than any other model X.
The "unlocked ships with XXX Sim" Moto Maker editions are also XT1053 and get the updates at the same time as the Dev Edition XT1053.
Moto seemed to be rotating what model/carrier got the 2013 X updates in the past (going back to the 4.2.2 w/camera OTA, 4.4, 4.4.2 and 4.4.4). Its likely that Moto will continue this pattern.
The XT1058 and XT1053 support different frequencies (mostly LTE), and have different radio/modem files, that could have an impact on you depending on what frequencies your carrier uses.
the CID of the phone wont be changed. There is a chance this may or may not impact installing OTA's.
Your bootloader needs to be unlocked to do this. (You don't mention who your XT1058 is from, and if its bootloader is unlocked.)

Thank you,
The reason I thought it would update faster is because I saw that the new moto X pure edition got update faster than the verizon for example. So I tought it would be the same thing for the moto x 2013 and the xt1053 version is the developper edition.
Thank you

You can't assume that one device (2013 X) will be the same as another (2014 X).
And for the 2013 X, there are TWO Developer Editions. XT1053 and XT1060. They use the same rom as their retail and motomaker counterparts and got their updates at the same time as their retail/motomaker counterparts.
Example: The GSM Dev Edition is the XT1053, but so is the "Unlocked shipps with T-Mobile SIM" version sold on Moto Maker, same with the "Unlocked Ships with Net10 sim" sold on Moto Maker. They all get the updates at the same time.
And The Developer Edition for Verizon is the XT1060, but so is the Moto Maker or Retail 2013 X for Verizon. They all get their updates at the same time.
There was a thread somewhere that listed the order Moto was rolling out the OTA's. It showed each OTA, and which model X got that OTA first. For one OTA it was the XT1060 (Verizon), for another OTA it was ATT (XT1058), for another it was Sprint (XT1056), and so on.
Wouldn't the GSM dev edition get OTAs faster than an At&t or Verizon (including Verizon dev) editions since their updates have carrier bloatware and need carrier approval?

Actually the xt1053 was dead last to receive 4.4.4 and was first to get 4.4.3

Not necessarily. Take 4.4.4, XT1053 was one of the last to get it.
Verizon XT1060 got 4.4.4 in last few days of July.. http://www.droid-life.com/2014/07/2...e-now-available-to-all-here-is-the-changelog/
ATT XT1058 got soak in early august, I can't find when they finally pushed to users -> http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...pdate-now-rolling-out-to-soak-testers-on-att/
Sprint got 4.4.4 End of August -> https://community.sprint.com/baw/message/837886#837886
XT1050/Unlocked/T-Mobile/DevEd got soak in end of Sept, but I can't find when it started actually pushing to all users -> http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...finally-getting-its-android-4-4-4-ota-update/

I know both ATT, Tmobile, and Verizon have already pushed out 4.4 upgrade. However I cannot find any information for the developer edition model. Does anyone know if Google has started to push out official 4.4 upgrade for Moto X Developer Edition?
I got it from Verizon a week ago

All XT1053 's are unlockable
All XT1052 's are unlockable
All XT1050 's are unlockable
All XT1055 's are unlockable
All XT1056 's are unlockable
All XT1058 's are unlockable EXCEPT AT&T
Only the DEVELOPER edition XT1060 is unlockable
NO XT1049 's are unlockable (except nTelos)
Basically, they can all be unlocked EXCEPT Verizon (though the DEV edition can be unlocked), AT&T, and Republic Wireless.
You can NOT use CM or any other non-stock-based custom ROMs with safe-strap. Safe-strap is for stock based ROMs ONLY.
This is all completely accurate with the exception of the services of the "China Middleman" (use search).
The middleman sells unlock codes for some of the locked variants. While many are successful at unlocking, many are unable to receive codes as well. See that thread for further details.
You are an absolute legend thanks so much, i spent ages looking for that info
Hi again,
Is it possible install a Dev Edition ROM on a "common" Moto X?
Thanks!

The Dev edition Roms aren't one byte different from the regular ones.
The vzw Dev edition uses the regular xt1060 ROM.
The GSM Dev edition use the T-Mobile xt1053 ROM.
What are you trying to accomplish?!?

There is no hardware or software difference besides the unlockable bootloader. When the bootloader exploit gets released, unlock your device, and it will be nearly the same. (I only say nearly because I feel like i'm forgetting something.

That really doesn't make sense....but no. You can't.
There are SEVERAL XT1058s. Which do you have? The AT&T Variant, or a different one?
If you do NOT have the AT&T variant, you can already unlock the bootloader which basically "transforms" it into a DEV edition without doing anything else.
Any phone with an unlocked bootloader *IS* an un-official "DEV" edition. There is nothing "special" about the Dev editions except for their unlockable bootloaders, or rather the fact that they retain their warranty after being unlocked.
I'm not understanding what you intend to gain?
ALL Moto X's have unlockable bootloaders *EXCEPT* for the Verizon, AT&T, and Republic Wireless variants.
The only thing "special" about the dev editions is that they keep their warranty intact after unlocking the bootloader. But if it isn't a device SOLD as a DEV edition, you will void its warranty anyways.
And if you happen to have the AT&T, Verizon, or Republic Wireless variant, see the thread in General titled "China Middleman Back" - that guy sells codes that unlock the bootloader on the locked variants. If you pay him and get a code, your phone will be a non-official DEV edition. If you DON'T have AT&T, Verizon, or Republic Wireless variant, you can *already* unlock it *FREE* from Moto's official unlock website.

@samwathegreat can i flash a Galaxy Note 3 rom? I want to transform my maxx to a note 3. I really like the bigger screen.
Wut?
Is it just me or has Moto never rolled out 4.4.4 to the unlocked GSM editions? My mom bought an unlocked phone straight from Motorola and yet she's still on 4.4.3. We're using the phone on T-Mobile if that makes a difference.

It's not just you. T mobile version got 4.4.3. A bug was found after they started rolling it out, so they fixed it for the other models (that's the main difference between 4.4.3 and 4.4.4). Most of the other features/upgrades were included in 4.4.3, so they didn't make updating the t-mobile edition a priority. It'll probably get it after they finish all of the others are done unless android L is ready to go by then, in which case, it'll probably just get that.
Moto X 4.4.4 Official T-Mobile Firmware
My Moto X got messed up after some rooting and flashing...
I would like to request the official T-Mobile US firmware on sbf.droid-developers.
Thanks a bunch!

The T-Mobile 4.4.3 sbf is available:
Moto Firmwares
Oops, looks like the site is down.
I got 4.4.4 just a week ago on Dev Edition
I got 4.4.4 just a week ago on Dev Edition, although its not TMobile,
So might be possible, yours on the way.:good:
4.4.4 for t-mobile version (any XT1053 model) was delivered a couple of weeks ago. Go to settings/about phone/system updates and you should update if you have a factory phone - if you have unlocked or rooted, go back to factory spec before trying to update.
I have an AT&T Moto X with an unlocked bootloader. Android L is coming out, and I wanted to know if it's possible to convert my AT&T device to the international model, in order to receive updates more quickly.
For example, if I flash the XT1053 software, which according to Wikipedia is the "GSM Unlocked US, GSM Dev Edition US, Nextel México" edition, on my XT1058, will it work, and more importantly, will I receive OTAs designated for the XT1053? Thanks.
