I paid unlockitnow.com for an unlock code for my g1 3days ago, and I have yet to receive anything!!! I haven't gotten any response from the many email tickets I've sent either. On the site it says it only takes 6 to 24hrs for delivery, but i'm past that point. My imei number for this phone is MOD EDIT and the only reason I chose this service is because I thought it would be faster than contacting Tmobile and wait for them to send me an email. If anyone knows how to get results from unlockitnow.com, or have a better idea as to how I can get this thing unlocked, I'm all ears. THANKS
this has NOTHING to do with development of the G1. If you post in the general section you might get more of a response.
Q, why pay for an unlock code when all of the info is here on how to unlock your g1 for free? lol
I've been looking
I've been looking all over the site, but there is so much information on a lot of different things, I tend to get lost. Please point me in the right direction PLEASE! I'm not new to unlocking phones, but this one is something totally different.

This is a SIM unlock....not an unlock to be able to root and install modded ROMs. But, regardless, this should not be in the Development forum. It would be good if this thread is moved.
You can get the unlock code from tmobile for free,
Please read.
Mod please move this thread.

why bump this?
just more clutter
your beat dude should never pay for something you can get for free. and why is it xda's problem cause you went to an unauthorized site to unlock your phone when you could get one after 90 days for free from t-mobile?
you don't even have to wait 90 days
just call cust. service, tell them you need your phone unlocked because your going to europe/asia/wherever..international, and your trip is in a week or 2, they'll ask for your IMEI, and in a few days (I've always gotten it within 24 hours) you will have your unlock code.
just make sure they wrote down the correct IMEI, with my last phone they ****ed the numbers up and I had to find a supervisor to get my request through since once you request an unlock code you can't ask get another request for 90 days.
I never understand why people go through those unlock sites when you can get the code straight from your provider, it may take a bit of social hacking but that's not hard at all.
just to let you know how easy it was i called t mob for mine yesterday and it went like this
me: hello i would like to get a sim unlock code for my g1
rep: please hold let me get you to the right department
me: thank you
2nd rep: how may i help you

I have what I hope is a quick and simple question. I recently purchased a lightly used Developer Edition and have been going through the steps to unlock the bootloader. Everything seems to work as one would expect, except that I never get the email from Motorola with the unlock code. I called Motorola and talked to their Level 2 support, which did not impress. They seemed to think that it would take up to three days to get this unlock code email, which seems a little absurd, especially as there is no indication that I can find on Motorola's web page that it should take so long. So how long should it take for me to get this unlock code email?
Check your junk mail. When I unlocked mine, it went to my junk folder. I requested code on a Friday, but did not receive it till the following Monday.

Thanks! I checked those folders, but will continue to check over the next few days. The Moto website did not seem to provide info on how long it would take to send said code.
-- UPDATE --
Started drilling down into all of the folders on my gmail, only to find that (a) the code was send three hours after my request, and (b) it was not in the "junk" or "spam" folder, but in the "promotions" folder. How strange. Giving it a try right now!

Bootloader unlocked, phone now rooted, running migration process. Almost there!
I think when you unlock via the website it does tell you it can take up to three days to generate the code. I got mine within a few minutes. I just think it depends on how many requests they get.
Has anyone else noticed that their IMS status is 'Not Registered'? IMS is what allows SMS and MMS to go through LTE. Does anyone have any more insight into this?
Mine says registered
Sigh... I wonder why my IMS isn't working...
OP, mine also says "Not registered". I haven't had any issues, though. I did not take the OTA.
I also haven't taken the OTA
Taking the OTA fixed my IMS issues.

I am naturally hesitant because I don't want my chance of root to be patched. Currently, it is not negatively affecting me.
Just change the Global network
You just have to change from Global to GSM/UMTS. It's going to work flawless.
Why would you bump up a 2 year old post?
why not though?

Because most often there's current information in newer threads. A post 2 years old and dead (now FOUR YEARS OLD) 99.9% of the time is not relevant whatsoever. The phone was on Kitkat back then and not even rooted.
The first thing you should do is ask yourself WHY this thread has had no activity for over 2 years.
The 2nd thing you should do is look at the most recent threads (top 5, top 10 even).
The third thing you should do is search for that topic in the threads. Key words.
Most of the time if it's something important, it's already been answered 20 times in those top threads.
Over in the LG V30 forums I see people bumping up threads (they had to dig DEEP!) from a year ago. Asking stuff about root and bootloader unlock. Arghhh. Those people are just polluting the forum and confusing people. Their questions are already answered in current ongoing threads -- over and over -- but they're just too lazy to look.
Most DEAD threads should stay dead.
Jeez chill
Right?
It's not like it's 6 and a half year bump.
Alright dudes, here's a thought...
On the old moto x and the new pure moto x's, you enter fastboot oem get_identifier_token to get a nice long string of characters.
On the moto x website, you are presented with a 20char unlock unique code upon entry, and agreeing.
just for fun, i was playing with my ATT Moto x in fastboot, and it doesn't seem like there is a limit to how many times you can enter "fastboot oem unlock 20charcodehere000000". infact, i spammed the **** out of it with no negative repercussions...
So, my thought process is along these lines...
Use a scripted fastboot to bruteforce the OEM Unlock code.
We know its alpha numeric, and 20char... so it might take a while, but hey... its a open door to more exploration if one is unlocked.
Anyone up to give it a shot?
strings of length 20 from the alphabet {A,B,...,Z,0,1,...,9}, then: there are 36 letters in this alphabet, and you can choose any one of them for each of the 20 characters in the string, so that leaves 36^20 possible strings.
That's a lot of strings. 13367494538843734067838845976576 to be more precise.
Good luck with that.

Just a thought, Hoss.
I don't see any other ideas about unlocking carrier devices.
Alright "hoss", I'm not throwing it out but I don't think people really understand big numbers. If you run 1000 entries per second you'll find your answer on average in 2.12E20 years or 2.12 hundred quintillion years. That's more than a billion billion years. And the universe is how old again?

Assuming the unlock code is hexadecimal and you can give it a million tries per second it should only take you 38 billion years, if it's full alphanumeric it might take a little bit longer

yeah, but given that everyone has a different unlock code, the chances of _someone_ hitting get higher.
I mean, whatever, i guess its a bad idea, but at least i'm suggesting.

just a kind request, unless its something specific you are calling to someone's attention, dont @ their nick, i get so many of these per day. I know people want the motox 2014 unlocked, im well aware. But the dozen emails/pms/notifications I get a day do NOT encourage me. It just takes additional precious time from my day.

If your time isn't being used unlocking MY phone, then it isn't precious at all.
I purchased a G6 Project-Fi edition.
Re-flashed it to stock. Now my software channel is "na"
The phone is stuck on the May update (OPS27.82-72)
When I try to update it says it's up to date.
What does the software channel "na" mean?
How can I get it to a software channel that receives OTA updates?
Also how can I do this all without data loss?
first: why did you re-flash to stock and how did you do that? what's your phone model and what was the build number before you re-flashed it?
If you use a Project-Fi phone as an unlocked phone, text and other features do not work.
I used build OPS27.82-72 found on XDA. Still does not answer what the "na" channel is or how I can flash to another build without data loss.

You really should answer peoples questions. They are trying to help you.
As for the phone, again, why are you flashing stock? The Project-Fi variant is most likely stock anyways other than a Project-Fi app possibly(pretty sure there is one to manage your service but I may be wrong.
What is the software channel? It tells carriers what region of the world your phone is designed for. For example, if it is set to retla, this is a Latin American channel and would not receive carrier updates if you were using it on a US-based carrier. I am pretty confident a google search for "software channel android" would have answered your question about 7 hours ago when you asked it. Why wait 7 hours for a response when Google can instantly answer your question. Even if you have to check out a few sites to get a proper answer, it is faster than waiting 8 hours on a response.
Now with that said, you can try booting into your bootloader and execute this command:
Code:
fastboot oem config carrier retus
Reboot and see if that changes anything.
It would be a good idea to link to the thread containing the firmware you flashed as well.

Man, between you and the first guy, I'm not even sure why I bother to ask the question. Last I checked the title of the forum was Questions and Answers...
I've got the question part down, but seems like I cannot get a straight answer.
My question, what does the software channel "na" mean? I know what a software channel is and how it works. I'm not asking that, what I am asking is what does the channel "na" represent.
If your so confident in Google, use it to answer my question... I tried with no avail. I got close with this article, https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/help/identify-software-channel-t3555285 , but na was not listed.
Also I can wait, 7 hours, 7 day, who cares as long as I can get an answer and not some snarky comments.
Now to answer some more questions that do not help to get me an answer...
The Project-Fi version is more than an unlocked phone with an app. I thought the same as well, but when you put in a SIM card from another carrier text messages do not work. (Even with the correct APN settings). My guess it has to do with the way the service bounces from one carrier to another.
I don't remember the firmware I flashed, it was months ago. I do know it was signed and official Moto firmware.
Thank you for the fastboot command, I will try that and see what it does.

You don't see it listed because it's not a an actual channel. It means n/a as in not applicable. Given nothing works somebody such as yourself should be able to figure this out and realize something is wrong with your radio software or hardware wise. Maybe it's because you swear the Moto G6 fi is different than all the others G6's and you flashed firmware from a standard G6 which has different hardware? But if that's the case tell me what the specs are of the G6 fi vs the G6? You only need to list the differences.
There is a number of reasons I asked for the link to stock. However since you want to be have an attitude, and you have all the answers(research the G6 fi vs the G6 and you will understand) I guess you don't need to post here for help. You should have all the answers already.
BTW, how'd that fastboot command work out?
Sent from my Moto G6 Plus using XDA Labs
I never said "nothing works", What I said is the Project-Fi variant does not work as an unlocked phone. Calls and data work, but messages do not. It's even on its own Project-Fi software channel. Hardware wise its all the same. I would love to know how the Project-Fi phones handle SMS that is different that an unlocked phone, but that wasn't the question asked.
Now, once the phone was flashed to a non-Fi firmware everything works. Well, just not updating. My guess is since the phone does not have a valid channel it cannot update.
Phone is out of my posestion at the moment, hence why no update, but as soon as I get it back I will let you know.
Quick question, the bootloader is locked, I assume the fastboot command needs an unlocked bootloader?
