Just an FYI for anyone else in the same boat.
After going round and round with several local shops to try and replace the rear camera lens on my Note 4 I have finally given in and shipped it off to Samsung. I used their Facebook Customer Service portal. All communication were done through email afterwards.
The first shop ordered the "part" only to finally receive the housing for the lens and not the actual lens. Oooops. That was 17 days wasted. Two other shops swore they could get it fixed but turned up empty handed when they looked in the computer. Samsung just hasn't made this part available yet.
I found the entire chassis (including lens) on eBay for $80 but it ships from England (I'm US) and would take 10-15 days. Plus the hassle of swapping out the components would lead me to outsource it. Which would be yet another sum of money.
The total cost from Samsung (and they paid for priority shipping) is $70 with a promised return of 7-9 days.
Luckily I have my trusty old HTC One to use as a temp. Man this thing feels small.
As a follow up....I received my email from Samsung saying that the phone had been received and repaired. Total cost is $70.65. It does state that phone is OOW (out of warranty) as they most likely discovered it was not a stock ROM or that KNOX had been disabled. Hopefully that doesn't haunt me over the next year.
They show an ETA of 12/19 for return shipping. That would put it at 9 days turn around. Their window of 7-9 days seems legit.
What was wrong with the camera?
Interesting that they said it was OOW, clearly it is not a year old, so are they looking at Knox and considering that voiding the warranty now?

If you send it to Samsung of coarse they gonna power the phone and when it has something out of sack they will look to see what's up. No reason ever to go to Samsung. I rather get a refurbished device

Scratched or cracked camera lense is not covered under warranty. I'm pretty sure at least.

After looking at the info they provided in the email they did not specifically say that the phone is now considered OOW or if the repair was an OOW repair. Once it arrives I will investigate further. They did say, however, that the phone would be factory reset so perhaps this is where they noticed the different ROM. Either way it doesn't matter to me. Its still cheaper than the JUMP program would have provided.
And $70 for a repaired phone vs. $650 for refurbished? I'll take the $70, thank you. I couldn't care less about factory warranty. Its only one year and I'll own Note 5 by then anyway.

I would of paid 5 bucks shipping and had phone next day with full warranty. Jump insurance pays for itself and TMOBILE swaps out devices.

But its not covered under "warranty". This was not a manufacturing defect. It was accidental damage and thus incurs a deductible. And I doubt it would be less than $100 as its entirely internal and would require full unit replacement.

Haha. You're right. I guess its been such a personal quest for me that I instinctively assumed everyone knew what I was talking about. But yes, the camera lens on the rear shattered when the phone was dropped 16" without a case. Funny thing is I didn't even see the shatter as I only looked at the edge when I picked it up. After seeing ZERO damage around the edge I just assumed I got away with it. Nope. Discovered the lens was shattered two days later when I tried to take a picture and the preview screen showed a foggy/hazy shot. My stomach just fell out when I turned the phone over.

I would assume this will be a very common part replaced. If I were a conspiracy theory guy I'd say it was intentionally designed that way. But now I have a case so if the camera lens breaks again its because the entire chassis was crushed. Or it again fell 16" and landed lens first on a pebble. Which would be my luck.

The protective lense for the camera has a crack in it..... so I want to replace it, I did look around a little and even tried google it... but all I see on ebay is hong kong stuff.... and the only online store I seen is sold out. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

Call HTC. They just sent one out to me for free when I asked about buying a replacement for a cracked lens. They said that cracked lenses are uncommon but somehow a known issue. They wouldn't give me any other details, such as if the defect causes it to break without provacation or if it's not as rugged as they intend. The rep sounded surprisingly concerned though, saying that "we'll get that to you ASAP; we don't want anything bad to happen to the glass lens under the cover!"
So far, HTC has been awesome and has done everything in their power to deliver me a perfect phone, after two screen dust swaps a dead pixel swap, and a free headset because "we don't have a parts sales infrastructure set up yet." Some might say that those things should never happen, but at least they're going to great lengths to keep happy customers. Unlike some other manufacturers who don't want to fess up to their shortcomings.

Im also in Canada. I dont want to exploit or rip off HTC... but, I got a new back cover for free because mine did not line up correctly (new one didnt either), maybe just tell them that and youll get yours for free too.

Hmm. When I wanted to get a replacement, I was quoted a price plus shipping and handling. I did hear stories of people receiving free replacement accessories but I haven't had luck when I had my phone. I even called during different days of the week to speak with different representatives.
I called about the door twice. First was a couple of months ago because I scratched up the paint around the headphone jack with my Sony MDR-V6s. I was quoted $27 after shipping and tax (HTC's dist center is in my state) and decided it wasn't worth it.
When my camera lens broke, I was grudgingly willing to drop the money, but was told after the rep took my name and address that I wasn't going to be charged and that the crack was because of a defect of some sort. I'm not advocating that anyone scam the system, because that's only going to make HTC be less forthcoming with support in the future.
I got my One just last Tuesday. I have been keeping it safe all the time but today while I was sunbathing I fell asleep for just 2 seconds and phone slipped out of my hand and fell from about 15-20cm on pebbles. I was hoping that screen will be fine but I have noticed a small square with about 4 tiny scratches right next to each other. They are very light but noticeable. It looks like I have a piece of dust on it but it's a scratch
Since I got the phone last Tuesday, do you think I'll be able to get a replacement?
It's ridiculous that screens from 2013 still scratch dead easily, I've dropped my One X numerous times and screen is in perfect condition looking brand new. Same with Desire HD...
Could it be possibly faulty?
BTW: It didn't fall directly on pebbles, it slid from a sunbathing chair and fell on pebbles so it really fell from only about 5-10cm. I am gutted
Pebbles/stones/sand contain quartz, a pretty darned hard mineral. Gorilla Glass is rated a 5-6H hardness, while quartz is 7H. It will scratch your screen every time.
Ah, I might give T-Mobile a call and see if I can get it replaced.

No need to be harsh, I have been having several issues with it anyway including 3 or 4 dead pixels with which I was fine. I agree that it was my fault but since the device hasn't been in a perfect condition anyway it's better if it goes.
Thankfully they have this 14 days warranty which covers accidental damage as well so I should be getting a new handset later this week or early next week.
If you're still under the 14 day return just return it. Then buy a screen protector

Mine scratched after 2 days which was my fault however when I got mine the tmobile worker was very reckless with mine and she messed up the SIM ejector and sold me a refurbished one, so when I went for the exchange I was told about the 50 dollar restock fee but didn't have to pay (maybe because of the way the worker handled my first device) oh and proof she messed up the SIM ejector was he couldn't get my SIM card out for me! Lol so he activated the one in the box

Good stuff I have already ordered a new case and screen protector so I am prepared when the new one comes later this week. I gave them a ring again and guy from T-Mobile was extremely nice and he told me that I am paying £5 a month for for insurance anyway which I didn't even know since I get first 3 months free but because it happened between those 14 days he would have replaced it anyway.
I've been in touch with HTC and they said that every retailer has to take your old handset back within 28 days even if it's not faulty which is a good thing to know as T-Mobile said they only have 14 days.
So far my second one is good, every here and there I hear a crackle in speaker for brief moment and top front plate is a little separated but just very very slightly but it's better than that horizontal scratch I made which was deep and the jacked up SIM ejector refurbished one I had before

looks like a bullet hit the lower left corner over the phone icon.
The phone is fully functional and you cant see the cracks but you can see where the bullet type crack is.
In the past I had an iphone do something similar. I took it to apple got it replaced free based on how the crack was.
This crack is similar.
Where would I take it to? AT and T? or a Samsung kiosk at Best buy?
I called a local repair place that fixes phones and tablets he wanted 200+ to fix it. Said to not just replace the glass but the lcd as well because to fix the 20$ glass he wouldnt guarantee his workman ship. I saw a youtube video where the glass is glued to the LCD apparently.

If you still have warranty from At&t, take it to them. Call them up and see before going there to waste your time. I did some research for you and on ebay the lcd/screen replacement costs about $189. On a wholesaler place known for parts, it costs about $236.

Yeah, call up At&t from where you bought it. I don't know about physical damage like a cracked screen though. That's all you because you can't really prove it magically cracked on it's own. So it comes down to luck basically if they allow you to return it for a replacement. Try and see.

Yes, it's still under manufacturer warranty. But the warranty doesn't cover breaking the glass. (You can always try, but I'd be surprised if they go along.)
If you bought AT&T's insurance, then that will cover accidental damage such as this. But there's a $199 deductible.

Lol yeah and at that point you might as well pay a repair shop.
To the OP, they are not going to warranty anything that has physical damage. Unless you have insurance I can promise you it's not even worth your time to talk to them over a broken glass.
I broke my LCD about a week ago and ordered the the front assembly for about 200 and installed it myself. But patients is the key if that's something you don't have let someone else do it. But I wouldn't only do this is your outside or your warranty which in my case I was.

i repair the galaxy phones. its gonna be pricey to replace the whole lcd assembly but much cheaper doing glass and adding the glue to it. you can see my video on it. if you think you can do it, itll cost you around 40-50 in materials.

My very late, in rush butt started running without realizing that my phone fell out. I got the phone back from a stranger after multiple attempts to unlock my phone and keep it. Anyways, my friends and I, we came to conclusion that my phone was ran over by a car, face down on the asphalt. Tech21 screen protector on it has multiple holes and dents from the surface of the asphalt. Luckily enough, everything is fine but the screen, of course. It cracked every where. Every tallest bumps of the road left a crack on the screen. I can barely read but actual screen is FINE. THANK GOD!!
SOOO end of story. I ordered repair kit on eBay but I was wondering if anyone went through changing the glass on Note 4 yet? am i the first one?? T.T
Edit: it's my first time replacing the glass but I've dealt with similar stuff before. If anyone would like a video of it, I could try to record it. If I crack my screen, people could cry with me or laugh at me.

It would work better if you had the machine to separate the glass from the screen. I will say if the screen is badly cracked up you might have a really low success rate.
why not just buy a whole screen? they are under $200 the last time i checked on ebay. less risk and less headache.
you can even try just the glass after you replace the screen just to do it and if it works you have a back up, if not no loss.
i have a machine and hardly use it cuz how bad people break their screens today, whole screen is the safe bet.
i don't know if its the same in your area but most places charge $100-150 to replace the glass and most places don't reapply new adhesive to the digitizer and glass . so the glass is being held onto the phone by the frame only.

Like your signature says, it's a badass Note 4. I've been handling android phones since MotoDroid and I can guarantee you that there's no internal damage to Note 4. Im still a flashaholic and my phones battery life and performance hasn't been effected at all. Yay me

I agree completely. I dropped the phone on the road while riding and except the top right corner crack on screen there is no damage. Somewhat surprising because i must be atleast 30 mph and the force with which it fell, should have broken into pieces. Not even the back cover came off the phone.

My screen cracked while snowboarding and Repairs Universe offers a new glass/digitizer assembly for $189. I contacted Samsung and they offered to repair it for $197.77, so for an additional $8 someone will do it for you. The only downside is you'll be without a phone for about 1.5-2 weeks.
I was worried about the stuff from Repairs Universe being genuine Samsung parts (wanna make sure I get a real 1440p screen and not Chinese knock off crap that's only 720p), so I contacted them. They assured me that it is a genuine Samsung screen, but they could have been lying to me just to get a sale. For that extra $8 I'll get genuine Samsung parts and it'll be getting done properly by someone that know what they're doing.
So for anyone that needs a new screen those are two options for you.

I went to their website on my phone, clicked on contact us, and did a live chat with one of their customer service people. It'll ask you to choose which product you're contacting them about (phones, TVs, appliances, etc) then what kind of phone. They'll ask for your IMEI number and all that jazz. I found them to be quite polite and helpful.
The only down side is you'll be without a phone for about 2 weeks, so make sure you have a backup phone to use or prepare yourself for terriblewithdrawal from not having your Note...
Guys the people you want to contact isn't Samsung. It's their only authorized repair service in the United States. The name is RSI found in both Plano and Hurst, Texas. Here's their website: www.repairsvc.com

FYI I just called these guys and they only replace the whole screen component for a flat $193 and it takes 5-7d.

$175 deductible through tmo/assurance. Overnighted brand new phone BNIP, done.

Yes, that's the price they charge. I was letting everyone know that these are the guys that Samsung uses. They use genuine OEM parts and are the only repair center in the United States authorized to do Samsung repairs. If you look earlier in the thread, someone said that Samsung charges $197.77 with a 1.5-2 week turn around. As you just said yourself, this method would be $5 cheaper and 2x faster than going through Samsung to get the same place to repair your phone. Just was putting it out there if someone wanted 100% assurance that they were getting genuine OEM parts but didn't want to wait 1.5-2 weeks that Samsung quoted them.

Yup same reason I haven't cancelled the tmo 'jump' subscription. You do have to factor in the $10 per month subscription price though, so if you break your phone in 10 months, it's $275.
T-Mobile insurance to replace phone is $175 I just filed a claim on Saturday and got a new phone not refurbished today. The only problem is I had a Note 4 in White but they sent Gray since White was not in stock. I called T-Mobile and complained and got a $30 credit applied to my account so I really just paid $145
So apparently my S6 Edge's screen cracked, edge to edge, precisely, diagonally UNDERNEATH THE GLASS..
This blows as basically Samsung won't do anything about it, ATT won't do anything about it. I won't be able to trade it in for ATT Next, and basically screwed the 914 dollars for this phone.
Sure the phone still works, there are no issues, but the crack is horrible to the eyes.
I can tell you as a first time Galaxy buyer, I already bought a LG G4, and plan on doing an insurance claim which will cost me 200 dollars and try and sell it or something, then I will never think about buying a Samsung device again. Poor quality control.
I am just saying, very disappointed with Samsung on this..

Yes, it just costs 200 dollars to use. I remember when insurance was only like 50 bucks.
I got an LG G4, Samsung agreed to replace the screen, so once I get that done I'm just going to sell the phone.

I thought if you didn't use insurance in 6 mk month's or a year it drops down to 100.. Might be in your best interest to call and double check

Mine did the same, att didnt do anything for me and samsung wouldnt either. I just gave up on it and ate it... Cracked screen after 2 weeks and no drops lol

I have a hard time understanding how this is possible. I've dropped my phone several times and never cracked the screen. Stop putting your phone's in skinny jeans lol

Man idk. Im sure youve seen me around, im a phone whore and buy pretty much every highend android phone that drops and somehow this s6 cracks in my pocket. Blew my mind.. Whatever ill be off to something new soon

My phone was not in my pocket.
It was gently resting on a solid surface. I picked it up, used it, was fine, set it down, picked it up again, cracked screen. The screen looks more like a tension crack than anything.
Samsung said they might be willing to cover it under warranty since there is NO impact marks at all. So I shipped them my phone and I am waiting. If they don't fix it, I'll insurance claim it. Either way after all is said and done I will basically sell the phone as I bought the G4 and its so much better.
I'm a union laborer and keep my phone in my pocket at all times with just the slim grinke case and every once in a while I lean on it hard or something hits it I get worried look at it and it's always good
So Samsung just told me that YES the crack is only on the inside of the screen, that the screen itself does not appear to be damaged. However, they will not cover it under warranty.
I shall vow to never purchase a Samsung product ever again. This phone has been a nightmare when it comes to quality control.
Original cost was 235. With enough complaining I got it down to 108.
My S6 glass did get a thin crack from the right side of the home button to the edge of the screen after one day of use. Did not drop it, or any abusive treatment, the day I used it.(Kept in my jacket pocket when it was not in use)
Returned it to be checked and hopefully repaired, but no such luck. Got it back unrepaired and had to pay the cost for the check. (Explanation from the workshop was that the glass on the S6 does not break, and this was their first case, so no warranty repair)
Will check with Samsung directly, but based on the other posts in this tread i'm not to optimistic.

Just a comment to those with this phone that *haven't* had this issue, you have to remember that engineering and QC are essentially a numbers game. Areas that might have problems aren't going to go bad 100% of the time, even under duress.
If anyone remembers the days of bad pixels, they didn't happen to every screen. And the manufacturers were basically balance the cost of the technology, QC, and warranty claims. It didn't serve anyone for people to say, "But *I* don't have bad pixels," when others users are reporting that they are not only having bad pixels cropping up with new devices *and* the manufacturer told them to pound sand.
The edge screens are a new innovation and are going to have some sort of failure rate. Samsung can't produce hundreds of thousands of devices and not have at least one failure that had nothing to do with the end user.
This probably didn't pop up frequently enough (or at all) during testing and QC didn't have adequate means to identify devices that might experience this failure (perhaps due to the way the screen or display is mounted to the phone chassis) and, now that there are enough numbers in the wild, people are experiencing a problem that is clearly the fault of the manufacturer.
Samsung then compounds the issue by saying they won't fix or replace it under warranty.
That's pretty shameful. I say this as someone with a lot of Samsung devices.
Also, remember that Samsung has a pretty long history of defects that they wouldn't deal with under warranty. The original Galaxy S had GPS problems that essentially rendered that feature unusable on a large number of devices and Samsung did nothing and offered no warranty service despite it clearly being manufacturer defect.
Let's focus on the problem rather than tell people that are reporting it to stop wearing skinny jeans.
This same thing happened to me, I have a hairline crack going from the top left of the phone all the way down to about 1 inch from the bottom left, from the edge to just past the edge in a curve.
I never dropped the phone, and it's in a case... no marks on the case nor on the phone that would indicate it had a fall and I know I didn't drop it. And I don't wear skinny jeans either.
I am thinking there must be a design flaw on these curved screens (I notice the phone does get very hot when charging, and am thinking if there was a fault in the glass the heat from charging could have caused it to crack?) - anyone hear anything more on it, is it any more rampant than what has been discussed here, any signs of Samsung admitting there may be a flaw in the design and that they would cover it under warranty?

I had the exact same thing happen to me. It was only about a month after I bought it. Mine was just sitting on the table (face up) and I actually heard it crack. Made a "tink" sound. Never dropped it before and I'm very careful with my phone.
I do have insurance, but I'm not spending any more money on this POS ..
