So I had my L90 D405N repaired (whole motherboard was replaced) and I noticed something strange afterwards. The touchscreen seems to be unresponsive, but only when I try to unlock the device. It's especially noticeable if I set a pattern unlock. I can only draw the pattern successfully after like 10 or 20 tries. The touchscreen basically does not record the whole pattern consistently. This is not such a big problem when using a simple swipe to unlock method, though still occurs from time to time. I have installed the latest available software update (I'm now running V10d firmware), also had the touch firmware updated, but the issue persists. Strangely enough, none of the issues are noticeable past the lockscreen. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the problem and the solutions to it? Thanks in advance for any answers that might come.

Oh! Sounds like the issue of phantom touches I once had.
Tiny water particles caused random touches while swiping that broke my swipes too.
The issues persisted even past lockscreen for me.
I cleaned my screen and put on a screen guard.
I dunno if this will help you, but this is what helped me.
Turn on "show touches" in developer options.
You might see phantom touches here and there when you swipe
Thanks! Will try that right when I get back home. Sure hope it works. I'll report back with results.
EDIT: tried removing screen protector and cleaning the screen, but the issue was still there. Even did a factory reset, but the unresponsiveness didn't seem to go away. I'm beginning to think the digitizer is messed up. I'll probably take it to warranty tomorrow. Again. Unless, of course, anyone has any solutions.

I am also having the same problem after replacing motherboard...
I tried factory reset and fpashed kdz again...
Same problem..
I called lg service centre who replaced motherboard..
Said that touch should be replaced....
Seeing as the issue is probably the same as mine, your phone's screen (and digitizer as well) just has to be replaced. That should not cost anything, so just have patience. My phone is working fine after everything's been fixed.

i have an LG L90 D415, and i have same issue.
the touch is irresponsive only when unlock the screen, but when i do a call and hang up, the touch works fine, i dunno why is this. i dont know if is hardware, or software.
Run an app that tests the touchscreen and/or do a factory reset (backup first, you will lose all data). If the problem persists after a factory reset using the stock firmware then you have a hardware issue.

I have the same un responsivness.. now I cant even get into my phone bc its locked and it wont let me touch the code so what can I do to get in my phone... it did just update firmware also.. plz help I dont have money for a phone
My touchscreen does not responsive and i couldnt drag even after the initial screen unlock. I solved this problem as follow: dial this 3845#*410# (my model phone is 410, if you have 405, put 405 insted 410). After, go to HW DEVICE TEST --> TOUCH TEST --> TOUCH FIRMWARE UPGRADE --> OK. Wait a minutes e after reboot the phone. Try again if not work in the first time.

Great tip
This tip also solved my phone issue.
On a friends phone we had the same problem. At first the touch gesture on the lock screen needed a few attempts and after some time it was impossible to do the gesture and we were essentially locked out of the phone.
I'm not sure if this helps anyone else, but for this L90 (405) phone the following helped: I applied hot air (from a hair dryer) onto the device screen and while the hot air was hitting the screen I was able to do the unlock gesture on the lockscreen successfully. This was repeatable because I required it a second time as the device locked itself while I was doing some data backup. As a side note: The screen had a small crack at one edge.
Though after the lock screen various other places like scrolling through galleries, pinch-zoom and swipe-keyboard did not work reliable.

After I was finally able to unlock the phone again, then this above TOUCH FIRMWARE UPGRADE from brunolcs also solved my problem (after a second try, and removing the battery in between).
PS: One thing that helped during the backup phase before the TOUCH FIRMWARE UPGRADE. I connected a bluetooth mouse and then I was able to scroll with the mouse at important places were I needed to do backups.
Turning to the community with the same issue after I've tried just about everything I could think of. The problems started after the original digitizer was shattered and replaced with a knock-off. My touch firmware is already on the latest 2.07 version, heating it with a hair drier does not alleviate the symptoms, I've already tried four different touchscreens from four different suppliers, with some claiming for their wares to be "original" (thou what that means exactly is not entirely clear as you may know!) and still touchscreen is unresponsive on lockscreen for the first ~5-7 seconds. Once past lockscreen, everything goes away. This YouTube video depicts exactly what I mean.
Any ideas? Can any of you still on the original phone firmware launch service tools (3845#*405#) > HW Device Test > Touch Test > Check Touch Panel and see what it reports for Raw Data? (Mine says "Channel Status: PASS" but "Raw Data: FAIL".)
Anyone?
Hey,
don't know if this is the same issue, but the phone of my mother (LG L90 - D405) can't be unlocked while doing a call. Started with calling the mailbox, we were not able to unlock the phone to delete the messages. Screen didn't react at all until phone call ends. As soon as the call was over, the screen reacts completely normal.
Now the problem exceeded to any call: screen does not react, ending call is only possible, if your talk partner ends it. Screen reacts normally, when no call is made.
Does anyone know a solution? Haven't tried the solution posted above, perhaps doing a factory reset will solve the issue?
Or time to switch to a new phone, as this one was heavy used...

Hi there,
I'm having a problem with my touch screen. It works fine most of the time, except, when I tap the same area many times very quickly (like when I'm backspacing a whole message), that par of the touch screen eventually becomes unresponsive. It becomes responsive again once I turn the screen lock on and off again (the top button). I've read a few threads around with very similar problems (not on here I don't think).
I replaced the touch screen a week ago, but I've only noticed this today, so I'm not sure whether or not it's related.
I'm just running standard LG software and haven't put any third party stuff on there (apart from apps). I've done a full reset using the update utility, and using the hidden menu, but this did not fix the problem.
Here's some details about my phone:
Model: LG-P970
Android Version: 2.3.4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35
Build Number: GRJ22
Software Version: LG-P970-V20C
Please let me know if I should provide any more information. I'm just interested in knowing whether it's a problem with the touch screen, or the phone's software.
Also, I'm new to forums and what-not, so if I'm doing anything wrong, let me know!.
Ok, I've realised this is in the wrong category. Was bound to have done something wrong - won't happen again!
Thanks
Hi there,
Tell me please, does the same happen on the touch keys (menu, home, back, search)?
Also, do you have any screen protector applied?
I have said this few times in other posts..iIts a strange bug, like the touch being lost.
Its fixed easy by locking the phone, thus shutting down the screeen and touch sensor. After few seconds unlock the phone and check if it is solved, or do the process again.
Thanks
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies, sorry I've been away for a while.
It doesn't tend to happen on the home, back, etc, keys. It tends to happen mostly near where the backspace key on the keyboard is. It happens in other places, but it takes a lot more to trigger it to happen in the other places. (by trigger, I mean if you tap the same spot heaps when writing a message it starts to happen).
Also, yes, I've applied a screen protector. The screen protector got put on about 10 hours after the new screen, but I can't for the life of me remember whether or not it was doing it without the screen protector.
Yes, locking and unlocking the phone does fix the problem, but it's a bit of a pain doing this a few times when writing a long message.
I'd really like to know if anyone can tell me whether replacing the touchscreen will solve the problem, or if its to do with other hardware/software. I've since started using the CM roms and it's still an issue.
Cheers.
I have a touch-screen problem with my LG P970 (CM-10 stable)
Hi,
I have been using my lg p970 for more than 2 yrs however when I installed cm10 stable i my phone it works fine for some time then touch-screen does not response properly. No solution yet, but lets gather the resources!
Another one
I'm with one of these P970h, the screen/digitalizer is cracked but works ok, I tried updating to CM10, the touch/soft buttons stopped working (they light up), also tried official 4.0.4, no luck, then the original 2.3 carrier modded, perfectly working! came back to 4.0.4, dont work anymore...
For me it is rom related...
for now I'm using NavBar with 4.0.4
Any ideas?
another one here..almost same with other members here, softkey not respon when in 4.0.4 and up ROM both stok official or custom, but working when back to 2.3.x down ROM and it not really responsive at all.try and pray for solution.

My main reason for reverting back to 2.3.4. Usually occurred when receiving a call; I couldn't answer or reboot the phone. I had to pull the battery every time.
I'm not aware of any fix, save reverting back to a GB ROM.

i think its hardware issue,,if i press and hold a little while on upper screen (right beside lg logo) touch screen became normal again. but sometimes need to hold on there when touch not work again. a member on this forum call it a flex issue of the touchscreen.
anyone know how much cost to replace it with new flex to fix this issue?

If it works with 2.3.4 and not other versions, it's a ROM issue. Changing the screens probably won't help.
This loss of touch was reported by many users, and it's always a 4.0.4+ problem. Something software-wise is crashing, or there's a driver bug.

I have a XT1068 Stock Retail Asia, untouched 5.0.2.
Lately i've been having problems with my screen, such as ghost touches. It started randomly one morning, and nothing i do seems to help.
Sometimes i'm unable to unlock my phone due to this problem. The back, home and recents buttons too stop working. Only 1 out of 3-4 attempts to unlock the phone works.
I somehow managed to enable visual feedback for touches and took a screenshot of what's happening (see attachment).
I cleared cache, factory reset the phone but to no avail. Please help.
EDIT - A screen replacement is the only solution to this problem.

i had this problem on my friends flooded moto g xt 1064 flashing an new rom to the phone seems to have fixed it but to do that you have to unlock your boot loader witch voids your warranty you may be able to reinstall the lollypop update by going in to recovery and install update from zip file
Same problem here after 3 months without any problem .
Now I got ghost touches and unable to unlock phone by swipe
I was just about to make a thread about this because I'm having the same exact issue and I really don't have a clue as to why because I've tried everything.
In my case it seems to happen when I take my phone out of my pocket when I'm out and about sometimes the touch screen becomes unresponsive or does its own thing. For me it happens when the phone is really hot so that might be something to consider. Maybe how the phone spreads the heat or a service on the phone when the phone is really hot idk.
It makes its own touches normally around, if you pop up the keyboard on your moto, in my case the ghost touches are around the m,delete, the dot or period and enter buttons.
Any progress from any of you with the problem or any suggestions from anyone?
It doesn't seem to happen when the phone is cold or room temperature, I think.
Edit: Additional info just in case: XT1064 rooted currently on stock moto KitKat though it has happened to me at least once on all the roms I've had. It has not dipped in water ever.

i have the same problem on my xt 1068, when the phone is warm it works fine, but when is cold or some place with conditioned air the screen starts to fail, the phone is stock so i dont know what could be the problem.
i'm going to dry the phone with a hairdryer, i remembered i saved up my phone on a closet during the nights sometimes and in the mornings the phone was wet by humidity, and i wasnt worried by that, and maybe that was the problem
i will post again if i find something
sorry if i wrote something wrong, i'm from colombia and still learning english

I have the same problem, it is probably a hardware problem because it happened after reflash stock firmware and in twrp recovery also.
It's a hardware problem. Replacing the screen under warranty fixed the problem for good. If you are unlucky enough to have voided your warranty (by damaging your screen physically or water damage, don't know about unlocking), then it's going to cost around 4000 Indian rupees (around 63$) to replace the screen. It's the only solution.
Apparently this problem is relatively common as I found out from the Motorola forums.

Testing with " SGS Touchscreen Booster " app.
I set value of all first four high and 5th one 0 in setting
hi,
i have a dead zone in the upper part of the touch screen, i have found multiple references to problems with touch scree, but i discovered that my issue is in software not in hardware.
if i run a diagnostics in settings->about phone>diagnostics->test->touchscreen everything works and i am able to clean whole display, so hw works, but no application including system is not able to use a rectangle with y=<150,280>
i also enabled developer options->show touches and the problem is probably in api, dead zone is there too, so no wonder that all apps have a problem.
i dont know when this problem started, but i am sure it was after 5.x upgrade
any ideas?
My phone has a similar issue, and I have only noticed after updating to lollipop too. In my case, the screen does not recognize touches in a portion of the notification bar. After trying a lot of solutions, including repairing using FTF and PC Companion, I tried to downgrade to Kitkat. Although the notification bar worked normally, testing through the service tests menu (type *#*#7378423#*#* in dialer) revealed the problem was still there, but the area affected was a bit smaller, what explained why I could lower the notification bar again.
I believe this is a hardware issue. What makes you able to wipe the screen through the diagnostics menu is the fact that the area you can wipe is large, so when you swipe near the affected area, it wipes a larger area around it.
I've attached some screenshots showing what I got using the touch screen test (service tests menu).
I also found someone with a similar issue in another thread:

My phone's still under warranty, I will contact them in the next weeks. If I can get any news I will post it here.
Sometimes when I turn on my phone the upper part of the screen doesn't work as well. Usually, turning the screen off and on again makes it go back to normal.
I don't think it's a hardware issue because I had my phone replaced (not because of this) and the problem persists. It doesn't bother me that much, however.
for last few days I m unable to swipe down the notification bar,its unresponsive over the whole notification bar. I cant even clear that zone while running the diagnostic test. please reply who has solution. I m really tensed. I don't have any warranty.
Have the same problem here. Does anyone already found a solution ?
Iam having the same problem on more than one place of the screen. Any solution?
Same Problem - Top half not working
I have about the same problem as the whole top half of the screen is unresponsive. Had it for about 3 weeks when it suddenly happened. Sent it away for repair about two weeks ago, still waiting on the outcome.
Hello, exactly the same problem with my Z3 Compact, I am sending it for repair next monday. Any updates from you guys?

In this case it s possible to have software issue
so install PC Companion and use Update option and then Repair Firmware to wipe ur phone and install fresh firmware
if problem remains take it to service center for faulty touch screen
:good:
I Have the same issue after update with pc companion 23.4.A.1.200
Reinstalling the software didn't fix the problem in my case. If so many people have this issue i'd say it's about the built quality.
I got this issue in my device also. Just paid attention to it today. Sometimes it works fine, but sometimes no. I tried the test from diagnostics in the phone me, and sometimes i couldn't reach the upper area, around 1-2 millimeter width, but sometimes it works fine also in the test. I didn't perform any software upgrades, the phone has build 23.4.A.0.546, Android 5.1.1. May be it can be solved with any screen calibration? Any ideas will be appreciated...
I've recorded screen video, so you can see the problem area: https://youtu.be/rfn4j1yGluU
Thank you
Same problem. My device is d5833 brought in Australia last Christmas day. The problem occur three ago with the build 23.4.a.1.200. It wasn't fixed if upgrading to build 23.4.a.1.232 or wiped all to reset.
This evening my another d5833 also had the same problem with the build 23.4.A.0.546. I brought them on the same day.
I no sure if the android 5.1 cause this problem, but everything is ok before I upgraded. Probably the screen sensor was broken by the upgrades .
I have contacted the store, where i bought my device (www.clove.co.uk), and they will take care of sending it to Sony service center and repairing under warranty.
I also read about this issue on other forums, it looks like hardware problem, which can be fixed by touchscreen replacing.
I sent mine back to the store (handtec.co.uk) aswell. They are currently taking care of it. Anyway, I was told that I will be able to track the progress online, but I don't see the device in my account. Tried to contact them few times, so far they told me twice that the device was already sent back to me, and once that they have just received it back from repair. Opened a ticked, current status is "your item is booked with the manufacturer as soon as we got any information regarding your item from manufacturer we will update you via email". Let's see how it goes.
If you're rooted, reboot into recovery and wipe dalvik & cache (you don't lose any data or settings)... problem solved!

10x, but my phone is not rooted. Already sent to service... Now i just have to wait...
Mine is also not rooted, and made entry in Sony for repair on 02/10, so far no response on the status.
Suddenly my xperia Z3 compact's Home button, back button or even the button which shows the background apps is not working. Although these buttons work perfectly when the device is locked which means nothing is wrong with the touch screen/display (at that time the call button, lock button and camera button are displayed respectively). But I don't understand why these buttons aren't working when the device is unlocked. I've already tested on "safe-mode". It didn't work. Then I flashed the device using flashtool and reverted back to kitkat. But still the same problem persists. I have attached two pictures so that you can understand my problem. Now someone please help me out.

Try to repair the phone software using PC Companion, if that doesn't change anything either, I have no idea what could be wrong.

Odd issue
Did you wipe anything with Flashtool?
I have a similar issue. I think it's a hardware problem.
You can try the service tests menu (type *#*#7378423#*#* in dialer), but maybe it won't detect any problem since the affected area is in the navigation bar.
I believe your phone recognizes touches in that area when the device is locked simply because it is possible to unlock the phone by swiping up starting from points a little higher than the area where the navigation bar is placed.
The complete description of my problem is in this thread, and I've also found someone who posted screenshots too.
I've attached some screenshots of my phone (using service tests menu).
Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution yet, so I'm thinking about sending it to repair.

No! It just started automatically.....But then I rooted the device so that I could use gravity box and have some tweaks over the navigation bar. But nothing works!

btw....Using "Glove mode" helps a bit.....I just don't get it what's wrong in normal mode?
And I've rooted the device....used Gravity box to tweak the navigation bar. I've increased the navbar height from 100px to 110px. So. now it works somehow but only in horizontal mode. In landscape mode it's the same as before. And this thing not works when I'm running any apps. So, It's become kinda irritating to use any apps and lately the right side panel of the status bar has also stopped working. I just don't get it!

Yeah, Unfortunately It's a hardware issue.....I went to the service center today and they told me something like the Digitizer should be replaced meaning the whole display should be changed. As I've got no warranty, that leaves me with no choice but to spend a whole lot of money right now
I want to answer like "you have 1 centimetre screen protector or something?" but you already repaired your phone. Hope your phone will be better and your money spent is paid off with a great experiences. And i also hope your waterproofness will not gone after repair.:banghead:
Sent from my D6653 using XDA Free mobile app
Root your device. Install Resolution changer. Open it, leave the width value same, and the decrease the height value, it will make the back key panel null, and your back key position will change. you can use touchscreen smoothly with no problem, even in any app or video player
i have the same problem. Then i use the phone horizontally, everything is ok, anywhere on the screen responds my touch. I think it is a software problem.
Same problem

facing the same problem second time...
This is still a problem for me. I believe it is a software problem. I tried the screen on a game that uses the screen, Piano Tiles 2. The game menu is at the bottom of the screen, right where the Home/Back button is supposed to be. But on the game, this area actually works. Whereas if you exit from the game, that same are-- that same area where it doesnt have a problem in-game-- no longer works when interacting with the sony OS.
What gives?
I also tried updating software, a different launcher, and nothing worked so far. Its been months now and it seems to be deteriorating.
I have the same problem, too. I think it is a software problem, because in the lock screen there is no problem. Using the buttons, in horizontal mode with Sony logo on the right, works.
I'm using official 23.5.A.1.291
It seems there are a lot of devices with this issue (mine is one of them)

I sent my phone to the assistance last week, I've just received the confirmation it has been repaired but at the moment I don't have any report.
I'm asking myself if this kind of issue could start again in the future... when the warranty will be expired
If any of the capactive keys ( Home, Back and Menu ) buttons don't work. The Z3 Compact has soft-keys so you could try either of the two:
1) Flash a clean ftf, wipe everything. If it works after this it was most likely just a software bug/glitch, but if it still persists..
2) Its most likely a hardware issue related to the digitizer, you could either send it to Sony if you have warranty, or get it fixed by Sony or a black market fixer if you want to save some cash
Good luck

In your opinion isn't quite strange a lot of users have the same issue in the same range of time? This make me think to a bug, not to an hw issue.
Furthermore now also the Z3 seems to have the same...

In few days I should have back the phone, will see
A solution that worked for me
Hi,
I'm no expert but the following worked for me.
It seems an app was installed or upgraded that invisibly smothered the screen and prevented interaction.
1. Goto Settings / Apps / Settings (cogwheel) / Draw over other apps / Change all the apps to "No".
2. If you have installed the "Back Button" app, goto Settings / Accessibility / Back Button / Turn off.
The above got it working again - just.
Then goto Settings / Display / Glove mode / Turn on.
Worked a treat. Good luck.
Hello, I'm a junior member here, I learned a lot from XDA as I read many threads but only have posted a bit.
My Note5 has been showing touchscreen malfunctions for a while, nowadays I'm using the S-pen. The first time I realized I tried to wipe the cache, and it didn't work. I booted into safe mode but it didn't fix it. I realized it was a hardware related thing. Then I tried to remove the screen protector, it did work, but not much later it happened again. I cleaned my screen and it worked (and start malfunctioning again minutes later).
I concluded that the oil from my finger was the problem, but unlike any other phones I've had, the touch begins to malfunction just because of a very tiny amount of grease build up.
(for example, if there's a small build up on the 'A' key on the keyboard, whenever I touch other areas, the 'A' key will also recieve touch input.)
I think tuning the touch sensitivity will help. So I asked for help here.
Was my conclusion wrong or is there any solution that requires no rooting?

Nice, it works! But may I know why did it happen? Perhaps I can prevent it in the future. What happened?
(Update) The screen malfunctioned again. I tried to update the touchscreen firmware again and nothing happened. I was thinking wether flashing a custom kernel and ROM would fix this or not, should I?
Replace the phone, could be the screen or the motherboard. Don't bother fixing it.

The weird part is it does work perfectly sometimes but most other time, it doesn't. I'm going to do a factory reset tonight to see if it works or not, or to decide wether I should flash a new ROM or not.
In my place here, a nearby retail store is willing to buy my Note5 for around $130, pretty sad to know. I love the S-pen but can't afford the Note 9 nor the Note 8. Should I buy a Samsung tablet with an S-pen instead?(it's currently on 25% discount).
Update: Is it a coincidence if the touch is problematic during heavy task (e.g. multitasking, running demanding apps, or playing games) and working fine during standby or light tasks?
