Hey everyone so I just received my moto x 2014 pure edition and noticed that it only says I have 10.17GB of available space. I bought the 16 GB model. Now I know that i dont obviously get the whole 16 gb to use but I was just wondering if the phone is listing the appropriate amount of space I have. I guess I just feel like since its almost near stock that I would have more space. I dont game at all so its not a big concern but just curious.
My 32GB pure edition has @27 so that sounds about right.

ok thats cool then, its not a big issue I just wanted to make sure. I should have just sprung up the extra $50 for it especially since I used the cyber monday code.
Yes that sounds about right, I had 21 available of 32

Hey all,
I'm due for my upgrade next month, and I'm stuck between the X and the S4. From a hardware and software perspective, the X wins hands-down (I love my Nexus 7 and the X is the closest thing I can get on VZW). My main hesitation is storage space, or lack thereof, which is why I'm considering the S4 with its microSD slot; I like to have options. Do you have any storage issues, and how do you manage it? I need to keep about 1.5 gigs of stoage space for an app that I use at work that have to be on the device, otherwise a little music and pictures (maybe 2g). Ideas?
I'm having very similar concerns. I know I can't make it on 16GB alone so I will wait on either the Moto Maker site to go live for Verizon (in which case we should have the option for 32GB), or wait for the Nexus 5 which should come out (hopefully) around the same time. Also, around that time we should see a price decrease along with the option for a hard-wood back (I think they're pretty sexy). I've currently got an S3 with 32GB and a 64GB micro SD card, which I don't utilize nearly as much as I could, I just like knowing the space is there.

I wanted to post this yesterday but I was in a huge rush to get my upgrade without losing unlimited data. I was not sure what phone to get to replace my beloved gnex. The moto x seemed like a great phone with a great battery which was key for me because the gnex battery only lasted me half of a day. But Verizon does not have the 32gb version so going to the moto x is a step down from the 32gb I filled in my gnex. It was nice to see and extra 50gb of space in my drive account for getting it, but obviously cloud storage hardly compares to hard storage. Also, I had to choose from black or white when the Motomaker site makes the phone look so much nicer but its a big tease when I cant use it with Verizon! Basically, my question is- Should I keep my boring black 16gb moto x or exchange it for another phone? If it was 32gb and had motomaker it would be perfect but without them it feels kind of basic when compared to the GS4 and the HTC1. Is anyone else as mad as I am that verizon releases yet another phone without all the goodies? Thanks.
I liked my all black Moto X and figured I can work with 16gb of space. The battery is great and I can add memory using my usb stick with an otg cable.
Later after a week I returned it back to Verizon and got the 32gb Developers Edition from Motorola for Verizon. Its got a black face and a white back with Verizon Developer Edition written on it. Its nice because of the extra 16gb of space but also has an unlockable bootloader. I haven't unlocked it yet because I've been rooted using Master JCase's root method. I love this phone because it's also smaller, kinda gotten tired of the big screen if the Galaxy Note 2.
Yeah look into using a memory stick for the moto if you desire more memory. Works great and this is my first phone with an undetachable battery. So I got an 18000mAh Power pack from Limeade. So now I got more power than I can handle. Hahah.

A few people on XDA have indicated that verizon will have Motomaker and the 32gb variant by the 2nd week of November. However I guess that is too long to wait to trade it in. I'm not sure I was trade for another phone based on not getting to choose your own color. As for the storage size, that is based on whether or not you think you need that much internal storage.
I just feel really let down about not having 32gb and motomaker as options when my last phone had more storage. I bet they lost a lot of sales to the S4 and HTC1 when they have more storage. Is there any way I can exchange my phone to motorola and pay the difference for the 32gb with a wood back?
Other than music(I use Spotify so it's a non issue) I'm not sure why anyone needs more space than 16gb.all my photos and videos are auto backed up to g+ or dropbox, music and video streams. And colors... I guess it's nice if you want it to match your purse.

I'm in similar situation, was in frenzy the other night caring about the upgrade nonsense that I ordered a Maxx without really thinking about it (thinking Moto X w/ coupon would have been about half the price). Very nice phone, my 2 complaints are the hardware keys and the size (too large for me to hold comfortably on one hand). While I'm getting comfortable with it, very likely going back and getting the X.
bloatware

Does the developer edition come with the typical Verizon bloatware?

Its got a little bit of bloatware, stuff like VZ Navigator and Verizon Tones. That is about it. Not much at all.

Video podcasts, rom backups, All Access were eating a ton out of my 16gb Nexus. I probably won't be doing much rom stuff on the X but that extra 16gb is always a welcome addition.
Hello everyone. I'm interested in buying this now that the price dropped with the release of the new moto x.
In India, there is only the 16GB variant but I think I can live with that; although it's probably the main reason why I'm not sure whether to buy this phone or not..
The battery life is a little above average according to many review but some of the users in XDA find it great. So I'm a little confused about the battery life.
Also, motorola is known for its fast update, faster than google on one occasion I think, but this phone was released in 2013. How much longer can I expect support? I know no one knows for sure but I'm just curious if anyone has any idea..
Well in the end I'm confused whether I should buy this phone which is slightly below my budget or spend more money and buy another phone (e.g Galaxy S4, Z1 Compact).
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

16GB nowadays won't get you very far. App data is getting larger, even if you don't install large games. Picture messaging, video messaging all need space, and if you run out you're forced to delete. I think 32GB is the minimum I'd consider if the phone doesn't have a microSD card slot, which the X doesn't. If 16GB was my only choice, I'd probably go for the Sony, which does support external.
Battery life is like you said, adequate to fairly good. As for updates, we're getting L, and I'd presume the usual small updates to L too. Beyond that, M, who knows, maybe. But the phone is great now, on 4.4.4, and I think that's more important.

Alright, thank you very much.
I think I will forgo the moto x than. If only the 32GB model was available.. :/ Such a pity..
I'm considering buying the moto x, I've been a nexus user since the gnex and always loved them but the nexus 6 crosses a line. It has amazing specs but the colors are ugly, and its just too damn big for a phone. I really want to buy the moto x but should I hold out a few months? Think they might drop a 64gb version?
I think they will, but not soon i guess... Around March ?
But this is just a guess, they may not even do it
So far they have been having enough trouble delivering the 32. I'm guessing all of thier 64 GB chips are going to droid and Nexus. I also think it will happen at some point in 2015.
Do you guys think like last year, T-Mobile will release the 128GB version a month or so after the regular V40?
I wasted a JUMP to go from the regular V30 to the V30+. I'm eligible for an upgrade now but I don't want to burn myself again with this.
I suppose anything is possible. Was jumping from the V30 to the V30+ worth using a jump? Was the benefit just 128GB as opposed to 64GB or did it have more RAM and stuff?

I am petty. I wanted it for more storage and the black color. This year, I'd like to wait it out. 64 GB isn't bad but if I can get more, I'll do it. Especially now they've got that 36 month payment plan for these devices.

If you pull the trigger now, you can get the 256GB SD card which would give more than enough. I think if a V40+ model does eventually come, it won't be until early 2019 but it may include a 5G modem as well (rumored anyways). If you wait, you might as well wait for the S10 to be released since it's supposedly a massive upgrade over the S9 (3 cameras on the back, in screen fingerprint sensor, newer Snapdragon with a neural processor, 5G modem, etc.). That will set the stage for phones in 2019.
I'm of the mindset buy what you need now and be happy. Upgrade when you are no longer happy. Waiting for the next best thing will always leave you waiting.
