[Q] How to remove a custom recovery on the Xperia SP? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there members of XDA,
I have a question, how does one remove a custom recovery off the Xperia SP?
As in, I would like to send it back to the Sony repair center as it is still under warranty. Also, any tutorial for an unlockable bootloader is appreciated

It is easy, just flash an ftf to your phone. By that way, recoveries will be removed as stock kernel were pushed into the phone.

Oh gee thanks. I thought of that but I didn't want to experiment with it as I had a lot of preconfigured system files and apps, but since you said it thanks a lot for confirming and making my doubts go away

[Q] Sony Xperia Z bricked after custom 4.3 Rom

Hi All,
Hoping for some advise and hopefully a fix. Been scouring these forums for 4 hours and cannot find a problem the same as mine or one that seems like it would fix.
I've always stuck to nexus phones in the past so the xperia z is new to me. picked it up this weekend but i've already had enough of sony's custom skin so thought i'd get a custom rom.
I updated to the latest software version using the pc suite and then used the xperia z root tool (v16).
After this i downloaded root checker and verified i was rooted
i then downloaded cwm recovery and installed
i then downloaded the 4.3 google edition rom for the xperia z, put it on the sd card and went into recovery, selected it from sd card. said it all installed ok so selected reboot...
after this it didnt come back on and just vibrates once when you press the power button. tried the hard reset thing where it vibrates 3 times but after this it does nothing.
it isnt recognised when plugged in to pc and the only sign of life that i can see is the light flashing red when plugged in as if charging.
Any ideas? never had something not switch on at all before.
Is your bootloader even unlocked?
4.3 roms and all other roms with non stock kernels cannot be flashed on a locked device.

Easy. Just repair with SUS
or
Download flashtool, and download the corresponding firmware you need (should be .ftf format) (i.e. if your a UK generic user download UK generic ROM) and flash the firmware.
fixed
Thanks guys. Flashtool got me back up and running.
Now, just because I'm obviously a complete tool does anyone know off the top of their head if it is actually possible to put the Google edition 4.3 on here after all of that or should I quit while I'm ahead???

Backup TA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
Unlock bootloader: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2153261
Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386405
Install recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606 ( using windows installer )
Then finally follow instrustions from here and flash this rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389823
It is an advanced build of 4.3 based on CM 10.2.
Remember to fastboot flash boot.img of kernel before flashing it form recovery.
If all that seems too complicated then i advice you don't attempt it right away, read around the XDA forum and familiarise yourself before attempting to brick your phone :silly:
Dude does your bootloader unlocked? If not maybe it cause u a soft brick. Try to flash the original ftf for xperia z use the latest flash tool then reflash it. Hope it helps you. Btw welcome to the SONY world ;p

[Q Help] Flash ROM's on Z1?

Hey to all XDA Users, I hope you are in good spirit today!
I am back again!
When I was flashing my HTC HD2 everyday I was close to a Professor now I upgraded to Xperia Z1 and I am stupid again as F...!
The Z1 I think is an awesome device but I am really disappointed for many reasons.
I can't select Governors and Frequences for low consumption of energy.
I can't put data folders on External microSD and use the internal Storage for Apps ONLY. (I am already out of storage).
I can't use many app because the OS is not rooted.
I don't have many Option in Settings to improve the Phone.
It's slow.
Drain Battery.
...ecx....
So like any Android Phone the best way to make it fly is to flash some good ROM.
How?
I was reading in the forum about some tricks to put the phone in some condition to flash the available roms but I really will be glad if someone can explain to me all the process to How flash the Rom.
I know is a stupid question but flash the Z1 is not even close to what I was doing with my old friend HD2 and I want to be sure to do all well.
Thanx in advance.
You should post this in the QA section, anyway, root your device first - install recoveries - download preferred rom - push to SD card - Reboot to recoveries - wipe system, cache and dalvik cache - Flash ROM. You should be fine

Can you help me and send me the right links for:

Root the device on Z1,
Recovery for Xperia Z1
I got many threads with recoveries, what it means recovery for 518 & 526. Where I have to look on my device to know the right recovery?
bootloader link?
Er no, you do not have to unlock the boot loader to root Xperia devices.
Please just read the several threads that are in the general section and the one in this section to find out how to get root on the latest firmware version

In the above post of your you did not mention flashing roms, just rooting and installing recovery.
ALl stock based roms do not require an unlocked bootloader, and with those there is a lot you can do

Download and install Flashtool from here:

Download the rootable ROM from here:

For rooting read this post:

Download recovery from here:

And install it like describe in thread.
But, the most imortant thread for you as a new XPERIA user is doomlords thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440565
The best kernels you ca use are from doomlord. But so far I can see he did not make a kernel for the latest firmware version. In the past (on my xperia S) you where able to chage Governors and Frequences. But wait for this a while. Unlocking bootloader is needed only if you use non stock based ROMs like CM, AOSP and so on. It's your choice what you want. There is no generelly answer for any ROM and situation, it depends only to your own needs.

[Q] Question about ROMs and warranty

Hello developers and xda members!
Some months/weeks ago I asked about rooting and warranty.I got some answers that if I unroot it or use SEUS I will not loose warranty.
This time is about roms and locked bootloaders.
If I install a CWM Recovery then flash a ROM do I void warranty? If yes is there anyway that I can make it so it's like I never flashed anything so the warranty will still last?
If yes what is the best rom I can install for LOCKED bootloader(I don't want to unlock it)?
I want a rom with good battery life + camera (I don't care if it's not 100% perfect but at least better than the stock one!)
Any answer would be helpful!
Thanks

Even if you unlock your bootlader you wont loose your warranty (if that is the reason you are not doing it).Just make a backup of your DRM keys and the unlock code and keep it safe.

I don't generally want to unlock bootloader.
Even if I don't unlock it and just install a rom(e.x Existenz) would I need to backup DRM keys?
Also can you give me a SAFE tutorial about backing them up?
I also asked about a good rom that has a good battery life and camera than the stock one.
What's your opinion about roms? What is the best based on your opinion?

If you wont be unlocking the bootlooder, you dont need the backup. Here is the thread with anything needed to get started with your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701644
I've never used the stock or other based on it (I use 4.3+ ROMs ), but other forum members say that Existenz is the best one out there.Currently, I am using the leaked 4.3,but it is for unlocked bootloaders.

Oops..wrong link!Here s the right one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354704
P.S. Im not sure but I think you will still have your warranty.Back in the days, when i had my xperia x8 and it got hardbricked, I lied to my operator that it got fully discharged and it never turned on again. The trick worked and it went to Sony with a custom ROM inside of it .Anyways..today i had to revert to stock, because the tutorial for the leaked 4.3 said so, but i encountered a problem - SUS said that my phone has modified software and it didn't complete the operation.I had to flash an .ftf image file with flashtool. But after all, It was successfull.
Ehm I got a question. At the install instructions of Existenz it says
Flash the rom.
Flash NUT reboot fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2317432
Flash 12.0.A.2.254 kernel only with flashtool (see FAQ).
As I see NUT reboot fix is for Xperia Z...Do I need to install this?Do I also need to install .254 kernel only again? At the FAQ it says about How to flash 6.2.B.1.96 Kernel with flashtool <- but this kernel is for Z...What happens?
Should I flash the rom then reboot my phone and OK?
Should I flash the rom then reboot my phone and existenz rom opens and then flash the NUT reboot fix?
Should I flash the rom then instantly install the NUT reboot fix?
Should I also install the kernel (12.0.A.254)?
I am kinda confused :/

1. Flash ROM
1.b Reboot phone
2. Use .bat from NUT (I used it after OTArootkeeper failed and I couldn't mount /system r/w)
3. Flash the kernel with Flashtool
Step 1b and 2 depend on what you prefer, flashing the fix or rebooting and let the computer do the fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317432
You can use NUT for the SP. About the kernel I'm not sure. I am on LB atm.
Hope this helps (except for the kernel of course)

[Q] Need help about rooting

Hey guys. i have bought the xperia z1(from INDIA) four months back, model- C6902, firmware- 14.2.A.1.136 android version 4.3
Today i heard that the kitkat update that is coming to my z1 will not have the xperia Z2 features like 4k recording, smart call handling etc..
But i am desperate to get those features.. so i am thinking to root my phone and use those apps provided in xda..
Before rooting my phone i just need your help guys.. i have gone through many threads to know about rooting and flashing.. But as a newbie i have several doubts..
1. I found somewhere to root my phone i need to downgrade to 4.2.2.. Can i root my phone on 4.3..??
2. Which one should be done first.. Rooting or flashing..??
3. Should i need to flash any rom to use the xperia Z2 apps..??
4. How to backup the original ROM of my phone so that i can restore it later..??
5. After rooting the phone will sony provide me the update of 4.4.2...??
and the most important one..
6. I know rooting will void my phone's warranty.. But in case i do something wrong and my phone goes dead.. then..??
i have accidental damage warranty for six months.. If i break my phone into pieces and then submit it to the service center, will they be able to know that i have voided my warranty..??

1) If there is a way to root 4.4 directly then there will be instructions given on how to do that in that thread
2) If not, then you downgrade by flashing a 4.2 ftf, root, install recovery flash a pre-rooted rom. All instructions are given in the relevant threads about flashing FTF files, rooting, installing recovery and how to flash a pre-rooted ROM. These instructions can vary slightly so its best to read the instructions from the OP of the relevant thread.

There is no such thing. No Sony phones are released with an unlocked bootloader. (Please don't confuse sim unlock with bootloader unlock)
they can tell if you have an unlocked bootloader very easily when connected to PCCompanion and then PCCompanion will say it wont update your phone.
Thanks mate... Now i can feel free to root or flash my phone.. If anything wrong happens then i will smash my phone and ask for a replacement

That's a bit extreme (Not to say fraudulent)
You can just flash a stock FTF or use the official Sony program (PCCompanion) to repair your phone without the hassle of smashing your phone up and making a fraudulent claim which just bumps the insurance and cost up for all users.
Can i repair my phone via PC Companion if it gets bricked..??

No, that's the definition of a brick. But you wont brick your phone if you just root or flash roms.
You may "soft" brick it, but that's not really a brick, and in that case you can repair using flashtool and/or pccompanion
I am just acting like i have understood everything
I will only understand about these things when i will experience on it.. BTW thanks a ton mate.. you have helped me a lot.. :good:

[Q] noob question on rooting XSP

Hello everyone. I have probably the most typical question asked on these boards. I would like to root and install a custom ROM. I think anything custom will outperform the stock update I've got from Sony right now. First, my phone:
Sony Xperia SP
C5306
Android v4.3 running stock kernel
Build 0.266
With a locked bootloader
I have read a fair bit of Doomlord's info re: ROMs on LBs. (Thank you Doomlord!)
From what I understand the steps look something like this:
1 - obtain root - I think I should be able to root using Towelroot (Thank you Geohot!)
2- make backup of TA partition? - but I do not plan on unlocking my bootloader, thus this isn't required?
3- flash custom ROM using Flashtool.
Am I totally out in left field? There is soo much information! Can anyone here point me in the right direction for 0.266? I don't care about Bravia engine etc, I just want a smoother ROM.
Please be nice, as so many people have been on these boards!
Thank you from Canada!
See bro, I've seen many people say this that I'm a noob. And I've seen the same kind of thread number of times. Please search before you ask.
Just root it with towelroot and install supersu and busybox and recoveries simple. You won't lose be and other stuff

Many thanks to both of you! I now have root, will install custom recovery, do a nandroid backup, and then flash a custom ROM. I just needed the proper steps, so thank you! Unfortunately I cannot upgrade the FW because my cell provider (Rogers in Canada) hasn't given the green light yet My phone has run really poorly since the latest upgrade, hence my quest to flash it.
One question, and it may be a stupid one, but do I need to install the Sony drivers for my phone? I have installed adb, SuperSU and busybox.. are Sony's drivers required? Is fastboot required? Because when I run the install.bat script and select the '1' option it loads the daemon but just sits there - my phone never asks me for SU access. What am I doing wrong, o wise ones?
EDIT: I figured it out and now have TWRP making a nandroid backup. Am very excited. Thanks everyone!
