Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. I have a question about restoring a backup for ClockworkMod. I recently bricked my Touchpad after trying to install LuneOS, after making a careless mistake. Before then I was running a dual-boot JCsullins CM10.1 ROM and WebOS. Since I was starting again, I decided to pull the trigger on a DM build and installed jcsullins' 1125 CM11 build, this time minus WebOS. After a while I wiped the Touchpad, installed WebOS, and then LuneOS, this time successfully. Before wiping, I had made a backup of my CM11. After TP Toolbox didn't like coexisting LuneOS and WebOS partitions when reinstalling Android, I decided to wipe the Touchpad again, and this time install WebOS, then Android before LuneOS.
Anyways, here's the main problem. On my first attempt, I installed WebOS, then CM11, but when I tried to load a backup from when the Touchpad only had Android, the process ended up wiping WebOS as well. I don't want to have to redownload and reinstall my apps all over again, and as much as possible I'd like to use the backups and not have to sideload the apps. Anyways, here's my question. If I wanted to recover ONLY apps, would doing a custom restore of ONLY data bring back all the apps and leave WebOS intact?

Hey, I've been running the stock build on my rooted O2X for a while now and tried the CM7 nightly's after having a bad experience with CM7 RC1 a month-ish ago.
I backed up with CWM(via rom manager), and CM7 works fine.
But i don't like how it remaps the external storage and for some other reasons is does not work for me.
So i'm trying to go back and its not working.
It says its restored successfully but boot stays on the LG screen with the progress bar underneath. only a battery pull gets me out, which i have probably done 20 times now.
-It was initially unable to unmount /system, but after i fixed permissions that error was gone but it did not fix the problem.
- I went into advanced restore and did each one separately, they all claim to have worked successfully. but no dice
-I used back2ext3 hoping that was the root of the problem, but no luck there.
i wipe data, cache as well as dalvik every time, but still nothing.
What is up with this? is it possible that my image is corrupted or something? but why is it saying restored successfully?
CM7 nightly installs fine, so im using it in the interim, but its not optimal.
thanks for any ideas.
I bet you have an older version of CWM.
Make sure you're on at least v4 then try restoring.
Nope, im running 4.0.0.9, which is current
Hi,
I know the touchpad isn't an android phone, so is it possible to upgrade from CM7 to CM9 using clockwork recovery, or do I have to use the same method as I used when installing.M7. I don't mind using the original method, but I don't want to loose everything I have on WebOS. Any advice will be very welcome.
Many thanks
Ian
You can, however you have to do a full reset - format /system, /data, and /cache, then do the update. You will lose everything from the Android side, but you don't have to lose all of WebOS to do it.
Hope that helps.
Use titanium backup to backup your stuff, then once you get cm9 installed, restore. I've done it a few times successfully (so far...... :laugh
I know it's not recommended, but I've flashed CM9 and gapps over the top of CM7 and had no problems at all, didn't lose anything.
It is not recommended to flash CM9 over CM7 if you did not use ACMEInstaller2 to install Android on your Touchpad initially. If you did not use ACMEInstaller2 then you will need to install your ICS ROM just like you did when you initially installed your GB ROM, but this time with ACMEInstaller2. Personally I'd rather start fresh and uninstall Android with ACMEUninstaller and then re-install Android with ACMEInstaller2.
You can use the two guides I have links to in my signature on how to root your Touchpad if you need a refresher as well links to download the necessary files.
i have hp touchpad 3.0.4 and android dual boot.. i want to upgrade my webos to 3.0.5 but it failed using OTA update (tried like 5 times)... last solution is webosdoctor.. question will webosdoctor erase my android? read it will erase my boot entries for android and CWM... how can i restore them if they are really deleted?
side question: what webosdoctor should i dload? 3.0.4 or 3.0.5? thx in advance
Quick question have ever installed preware on webos ? If not this will tell you how to. http://www.webosbuzz.com/hp-touchpad/633-how-install-preware-onto-hp-touchpad.html .
I would use 3.05 all versions are available here
http://en.m.webos-internals.org/wiki/WebOS_Doctor_Versions?wasRedirected=true .
I would first use acmeuninstaller, then in webos DL and run Android uninstall from Preware as this I believe cleans up the boot folder.
Run webos doctor 3.05 to upgrade your current configuration and finally reinstall Android using acmeinstaller 3 with the latest moboot and CWM.
yup i am using preware... do i really need to uninstall and re-install android to just ugrade my webos??
I don't think webos likes Android and may by why your OTA didn't work and it's probably better to be safe rather than sorry if upgrading causes any problems .
Unless someone else knows differently .plus the uninstall /reinstall process of android shouldn't take more than 10/15 minutes .
Good luck on whatever you decide .

If I remember correctly, you only lose moboot, which is easily reinstalled. But I would follow sstar's advice. You can have a complete clean install of everything doing what he suggested, in very little time, with the latest versions of everything.
Make a backup, just in case.
ok thx! i actually webosdoctor 'ed it to 3.0.5.. lost moboot... so i reinstalled moboot via ACMEinstaller2 and restored my cm9 cwm backup.. thx guys

Try this : run acmeunistaller, then install android again using acmeinstaller3. Then restore your cwm backup.
With acmeinstaller3 your tablet will be ready for cm10 (whenever you decide to install it). It has something to do with partition sizes. Also, upgrade your cwm and moboot to the latest versions. Here's the link for the thread where you can find those files : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080977
Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. heres my back ground. I have installed CM9 on a couple HP touchpads. My other friend who had it modded already gave me her touchpad and it is having some issues.
I can pick through the boot menu between the normal options WebOS, CM9, WebOs recovery, shutdown, restart. I can log into WebOS perfrectly fine with no problems. When ever I try to connect to my win7 laptop it will not give me the extra drive.
I have tried to log into the CM9 mod. It will go to the start up logo and stop. It will not log in any further. I have tried to re install the cm9 but I cant copy over the new file. Can someone give me some direction with this?
Getting this to a new complete new partition as if it was brand new from hp. Is ok as well. I have tried to recover and it just re does the webos partition and not the whole device.
Thanks
~Geoff.
Do you have a working recovery option in moboot? If so just download, full wipe, and flash a ROM. If you don't I would return to stock with ACMEUninstaller and reinstall with ACMEInstaller3.

That link helped and fixed the issue. Thank you
I just recently went from cm9 to cm10.1 nightly and I have camera and gallery issues. I was told this is probably the result of doing a "dirty install". So how do I do a clean install? I thought I did a clean install when I went from 9 to 10. I put the appropriate zips files in the cminstall folder, attached my touchpad to my pc in usb mode, typed the correct commands in DOS and my touchpad went through the double penguin install. Is that not considered a clean install? Am I suppose to do something with the caches? I am a little confused on what I have to do to get everything running smoothly again. If I do a clean install, do I lose my apps? Any help would be appreciated.
So I think I just backup using nandroid, use the uninstaller, reinstall 10.1, then load my backup. Does that sound right? Will that keep my apps and settings?
Anybody? I am about ready to do this but want to make sure I still have my apps with their current settings.
Well, I did a complete unistall using acmeuninstaller then re-installed 10.1. I was stuck in the boot loop. Couldn't get it to work so I went back to my nandroid backup of 10.1 that has some problems (reason why I tried a re-install). I was thinking of going back to cm9 but I don't want to lose my apps and settings. What should I try next?
