I wanted to root my new Sony Xperia T and I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460.
However I needed to install the ADB drivers and I am having extreme difficulties in doing so. From my limited knowledge on the subject I guessed that the ADB drivers are installed when I plug my phone into my computer. When I plugged my phone in windows installed two drivers. When I then went into device manager to see if my phone was registered as an android device but it wasn't. It was instead listed as a portable device. I also tried running

adb devices
but this ended up with an empty list. Despite this my phone appears in My Computer and I can transfer files to and from it easily.
After looking on the internet for a while I found I needed a few things installed. So I removed the drivers, installed the Android SDK with SDK-tools and the Sony PC companion as well as turn my phone to USB debugging. I then retried windows installed the same two drivers and it again was listed as a portable device.
I looked up this issue and found suggestions to restart the SDK-tools ADB server, restart my phone, update drivers, unlock my phone and install PDaNet. These all ended with the same result. I also found a suggestion to update the drivers by going into the Android SDK and using the driver in there. This didn't work though as Windows said the current version of the driver is the most up to date. I tried various techniques suggested to get around this but I was unable to.
Any help on how to install these drivers is greatly appreciated. My phone is about a month old, unrooted, Sony Xperia T (LT30p). My computer runs Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

Download flashtool and install the drivers from the driver folder in there. They are the only drivers I ever install.

It was kind of nightmarish to get the phone recognized for me as well. I managed to solve it (after may trials and errors) by manually "updating" the phone drivers once it was connected with the ones in the pccompanion folder; specifically the ones called sa0105...

I found the drivers in the PC Companion folder except I was unable to install them either by right clicking on the inf and clicking install or by going into device manager right clicking on my phone -> Update Driver Software... -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Enter in PC Companion drivers folder -> Next -> Windows Message (attached file). Is there another way of installing the driver? I also previously tried getting windows to not install the drivers when I plugged my phone in but nothing I could find on the internet worked.
Download flashtool and install the drivers from the driver folder in there.

Sorry for being a bit of a n00b but what is a flashtool and where do I get it? Also, same as previous, I can't find anyway of overriding drivers (I have gone through about three pages of google but can't find a solution that works for me).

Flashtool is THE tool for use with xperia devices. Look in the first thread of the development section.
It should be the first thing you download when you get an xperia device.

The way I did it was to plug the phone in, wait till the automatic driver installation failed, and then in the device manager I selected the phone and went thru the "update drivers" procedure. You must select the specific folder where that driver is, not the parent, or windows won't detect it. In my case that folder is named
C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Sony PC Companion\Drivers\{2CD1390C-A74E-434A-B652-73D3683B3BEF}
which is quite a weird name; just look for the folder with sa0105* drivers inside, and that's the one.
By the way, I never had a "WPD composite device". This is how it is shown now in device manager:

¿Could it be that you have two phones detected?, as my pc only shows "Xperia T", no trace of "LT30p"; and the adb driver is in a category of its own.
I have no idea. I only have one thing connected to my computer which is my phone. I don't have an adb, Sony or android node in device manager at all.

I don't know what else to tell you then. You might try uninstalling the LT30p, and forcing the upgrade to the pccompanion drivers I talked about before. But this is a wild guess, I can't really help you any further.
It's your adb installation correct. Have your added it to the path in environment.
Do you have usb debugging on in settings on your phone.

What dies flash tool say when you attach the phone whilst it is open.
As the post above says, you could uninstall all phone/Sony/adb software and drivers and re install them.
I have never heard of this issue and just installing flash tool and/or pccompanion is enough to install all the drivers

I am not sure. Is the adb installation part of the Android SDK platform-tools? If so I think it is. I can use all the commands such as adb devices but this returns and empty list. And yes it is in my PATH environment variable.

When you say install, what do you mean? If you mean the process I described in a previous post then I get the message attached (untitled2.png).

Is the flash tool called EMMA or something? I downloaded it of Sony's site here: developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/. If so I can't get in because I am still waiting for a confirmation email.

When I uninstall them and plug my phone back in the drivers on the phone install to my computer. Pictures attached. These drivers have nothing to do with ADB and only allow Windows to transfer files to my phone.

No, flashtool I'd found in the first post in the development section.
Please download it, install it, and ruin the driver.exe found in the driver folder of flashtool in the installation path.

Xperia T - adb problems
I also tried all sort of things until this:
- you must put your phone in Mass Storage mode, as default is MTP mode.
As simple as that.
On your phone (unpluged) - Settings / Xperia / USB Connectivity / USB Connection Mode - and select MASS Storage, not MTP. I did uncheck Install PC Companion. Plug USB back, put your phone in debugging mode - It work right away. No need to Update drivers, no need to change the android_winusb.inf. You may need to kill adb.exe before trying again adb devices.
That was it for me

Installing drivers 8.1
I am trying currently to update my T, it has an unlocked bl that I did when I first got it in Dec 12.
I am running w8.1 64 bit.
Tried both mass storage mode & mtp mode.
I have the latest 64 bit version of flashtool installed.
I am trying to flash the 295 generic ce ftf android 4.3 update, no problems with the ftf itself.
The error flashtool spits out is that the drivers are not installed, either the adb or flashmode drivers.
I have repeatedly tried to install the drivers that come with flashtool, and it appears that they install, but
there are a few that won't, I think namely the above.
I note that when I have device manager open, it detects the T, when plugged in in flashmode (i.e. turned off, with volume down)
as an s1boot device. I have intercepted device manager several times when it does this, in order to try and update the drivers
by hand, but no luck.
When I first plugged the T in in flashmode mode, it installed some drivers automatically, however, not ones that will allow flashtool
to work.
In truth I am now scratching my head as to what to do next.
I never had any problems with w7 64 ultimate flashing the T, solid as a rock, all the drivers would install as required, and I am
thinking the easiest way to update my T would be to use a w7 based machine, however, if anyone has any more ideas as to
what might help me flash it using 8.1 then I would be very grateful to hear them.

I put an 8 gig micro sdcard in my phone, the phone uses it ok , I plugged the phone into the pc via usb and it connected properly, phone showing in My Computer but the micro sdcard is all that shows and not the phone.
Any help would be greatfully appreciated

Thats abnormal use pc companion.... Should work
Is it because you switched to MSC mode?
Try this:
Go to settings->Xperia->Connectivity> USB Connection Mode
If "MSC" mode, select "MTP" and try again.
If u get problem even in MTPA mode
Restart phone - disable / enable mtp driver on pc and check for update of it manually
If problem remains uninstall driver and pc companion then select to install pc companion on phone in connectivity option. Then w8 for installation of pc companion and drivers

Looks like I spoke to soon, now my PC isn't seeing the phone at all, device manager says the adb drivers are installed and ok but when I plug the phone in device manager shows an ion for the plugged in phone with this message "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)". I have repeated the steps like mentioned above but PC companion doesn't finish installing it's apps cause it doesn't see the phone.
Funny thing is using ES Explorer in the phone I can copy stuff from the pc to the phone
For the past week I've been trying solution after solution found from the net to try and get my HTC One to connect to my computer and show up as a portable device. I'm running Windows 7 x64 SP1 with all updates possible, latest drivers and chipset drivers and even installed optional drivers to try and fix the problem. I've tried USB Debugging and nothing happens, tried uninstalling all drivers from USB device manager and reinstalling which also didn't work, tried installing MTP drivers seperatly, nothing happens, tried windows update's htc drivers, they fail to install every time.
My problem in short is, I cannot get my device to connect to the computer so I can use the storage space to add/remove/edit files on my phone.
I've recently tried a program called "DoubleTwist" which actually got the HTC Sync Manager to recognise my phone, but even that shows no storage available.
My details:
Windows 7 SP1 x64 PC,
HTC One in metallic blue 32GB,
HTC MTP Device Drivers Failed
MTP USB Device Drivers Failed x3
Developer unlocked,
USB Debugging On/Off

Umh, connect the phone at the pc, go to Device Manager (windows logo + x -> device manager), and unistall all the voice about the one.
After go to the control panel, and unistall the htc driver from here.
Now, install HTC sync.
For me and other friend worked.
I've tried uninstalling the failed drivers but they still fail every time i plug the device in, It's not really a problem with htc sync manager as I've pretty much given up on that already. My problem is that I can't get my computer to recognize my device, only as a cd drive which is for the installation of htc sync manager and and relevant drivers.
I've tried your solution 5 times before and it doesn't fix the issue as it's the drivers failing to install and the fact it won't accept drivers for my usb device for MTP or pretty much anything related to my device.
Anyone know of away to remove the bad drivers and install fresh working ones without crippling the use of my mouse and keyboard? because windows suggests I remove the usb host controller drivers which kills the use of all usb ports on my computer, meaning i have to replug them in turn re-installing the usb host controller drivers at the same time.
still got the problem of not being able to connect my device and have it recognized, by the computer as mass storage, removable storage, or MTP. that is the real problem I'm trying to fix, after that I may consider trying to get htc sync manager to work.
Any help at all would be nice... Anyone?

Got the exact same problem, work PC won't recognise the device. Haven't tried home just yet as this is the first it has occurred. Software update a couple days ago.
Called HTC - no dice, they keep saying install HTC Sync and the drivers.
Anyone else come across this issue/have a solution?

I had a couple of people reporting this issue on Win7 - phone connected to USB, came up as android device with exclamation mark in Device Manager. It really made me think what could have happened, because it was working a week before. I tried different cable, different drivers and realized it was something wrong, when even my phone was not recognized on my friend's PC, yet both of the phones (mine & his) were recognized on my notebook with all the cables and config.
It turned out, that he installed malware stuff and the culprit was iLivid and his friends. It blocked the usb connection somehow. After running Malwarebytes in safe mode, which removed a tons of sh*t, everything worked again.

I have a 64-bit PC with Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 and a Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070 with Android 4.1.2.
I can't install a driver in order to make Windows recognize correctly the phone when I connect it via USB cable.
I've installed and uninstalled Samsung Kies many times with no results. I've also tried some Samsung driver from Windows Update with no success...
When I connect the phone, it is recognized as a MTP Device and the driver installation starts, but always ends with an error, as shown in the attached screen-shot image.
What can I do?

Firstly make sure phone can run MTP (make sure if you delete MTP releated stuff in system you won't able connect it. Re-flash with Odin) Now if you don't have problem with phone then uninstall drivers & KIES from Windows. Don't just do a uninstall clear temp files, dll files, registry entries (you can use CCleaner) then install THIS DRIVERS.

Did you root phone ? or installed a ROM or you just using it stock ?
I noticed something too; if you any have PIN or Password you have to unlock phone otherwise MTP not works. Unlock it and try too.
CCleaner will *probably* be enough but if you want to make sure go to regedit.exe and go to;

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/
Then delete KIES & USB Driver stuff (don't delete system USB configs & drivers just Samsung's softwares )
EDIT: In start menu click to RUN (or whatever I don't now it's name in English, you're entering a text) Then write
Code:
%AppData%
Then delete KIES & Samsung folders and files.
I've just Updated the phone firmware from Android 2.3.6 to 4.1.2 with Samsung Kies on my WinXP PC.
I've deleted all Samsung Kies registry entries.
Now I'm going to install the driver you suggested...

I think it is the configuration of this PC, because in another brand new PC with Windows 7 I've installed Kies and it all went right.

Have you tried to reboot phone? I lost mtp after charging phone over wall charger. Everytime I need to reboot after charging to get it connected to pc.

I've just tried to reboot the phone before connecting it to the PC, but I get the same error (see attachments).
Last year I managed to connect the phone to this PC, but, in any case the connection got interrupted after a while (see this thread).
I don't know what to do...
I had the same problem when i formatted my PC 2 days ago. I did some trial and error and it worked.
1. Dont use any USB Hub if you are using.
2. Remove the Pattern lock or any password security etc. Go to lock screen and select 'None'. (I dont know why but windows doesn't recognise if the device is locked)
3. Have Kies installed. Even new version worked for me. I used 2.5.13043_14
4.Connect your device with the USB cable (Should have MTP option selected which is by default)
5. Windows automatically recognises now and installs the necessary files.
P.S:- Remove the security pattern, etc. It really works.

I've disable any screen lock on my phone and I've connected the USB cable to another USB port (a 3.0 USB port) and Windows magically recognized correctly the device! (no Kies installed, only drivers)
Anyway, after some minutes of usage (cut-paste of files). Windows stopped recognizing the device...
If I disconnect the phone and then connect it back, Windows still recognizes it, but I have few minutes until the device stops being recognized and no file on it can be read...

Did you download newest version of drivers? I see in your screenshot it says 2012, on mine it is 2014.
Did you set Windows to gather drivers automaticaly from the internet?

This is how my PC recognizes my phone. The driver seems to be old, but I've configured Windows for downloading drivers automatically and that is all it can do.
Today, th PC did not recognized the phone at once. Then I unmounted and mounted back the MicroSD card and the PC recognized it.
But, after few seconds of folder browsing, the PC lost the connection. I'm thinking that the problem is the SD card.

Recently i purchased a chinese tablet called "Onda V811 Quad Core". i used that usb cable to charge and also access the PC to send files to tablet. It was too slow so i used my Xperia SP 5303 usb cable.
After that, i charged the tablet as well with the Xperia SP 5303 usb cable and adapter. It worked.
The problem: When i plugged my Xperia SP usb cable into my computer and connect it to my XSP 5303 phone, icould not install the drivers for some reason. I already installed all the drivers and could access the SD card on my PC before.
But now every time i plug in my XSP usb cable into my XSP, i cant install the drivers since it says it fails to instal BOTH MTP Driver, and Xperia SP 5303 Driver, making me cannot access SD Card. =(
Is it because of my chinese tablet that i plugged it once in it? or is it my phone?
I have tried everything, turned USB debugging on and everything but nothing works.... also tried to install ADB drivers... that didn't work as well....
I'm on Android 4.3.
It charges my phone, but can't install drivers which means i can't get to SD Card on computer.
Does that mean i can never get to my SD Card ever again?

If both options dont work you need to remove all the sony drivers installed (perhaps also from your tablet), reboot pc and try again.

Wow, thank you very much!,t hat did the work, now i just need to know how to get MTP drivers to install so i can access my internal memory card as well, so i can put /obb files in there for games .
Could you possibly help me out with that one as well?, that would be nice of you ^^
Reconnect your phone into MTP mode should do the trick (windows does recognise the drivers by itself and will install when missing)
I tried that and it just gives me the error that i can't install the driver etc.

What error? Device gave problems or crashed?
The only error it gives me is that my driver (MTP) is unsuccessful in installing.

Hmm weird very very weird. Could you check all the installed components in you PC (Start > My PC > Device managment)? And while you do so connect your phone in MSC...
