Does anyone know where we can download 3d images? I did a search on the web but it seems everyone is just trying to sell their software and not the images themselves.
you can get the images, but it's expensive. i'd just wait for the Oculus Store to pump out the media because i think Samsung bought licenses from 360cities.

We should see plenty of stuff when project beyond is released. with 360 3D videos and photos.
I was looking for them too and simple google search for "spherical photo" brings plenty images and most of them works great with gear vr. Some of them are more like 360 panoramas and they look stretched because oculus software " stitching " top and bottom of the picture.

You can do some very decent ones with your Galaxy note! I got some pretty good results but I need to try with a stand

Just downloaded a new App from the market called Tv.com... For those missing the Sprint TV app, this is a very good replacement... and it is free!
Be sure to check it out...
Yup, very good app. I'm on edge and the videos still load pretty quick. Only downside is it's a cbs app so channel listing is rather limited.
Great start! I wish it wasn't just clips of Showtime shows. Hope more gets added.
I searched tv.com but couldnt find anything
Is it a free or paid app?

its free but with 2 major downfalls..
1 every shows is made into 1-2 minute clips which is annoying as hell to watch.
2. it does not make use of the full screen its like youyube used to be when you were not on wifi
Very nice. The resolution is way better than the Sprint TV app, sound quality is good, and I'm not seeing skips or pixelations.
Now if only the other networks would work on their offerings plus have Netflix streaming... oh to dream...

I have a Note 3. I am hoping I can get a watch that will let me browse the web (in the highest resolution possible) using my phone's Internet connection. And possibly record video and audio without being obvious (to record police brutality if I ever find myself in such a situation).
Does such a watch exist? Does the galaxy gear do this yet or is it still not possible to browse the web on it?
Both can be done with the GG with null ROM. Browsing and discrete camera with the addition if a couple of extra apps. The browsing experience is of course horrible, trying to read on such a small screen

i would suggest you waiting 4-8 weeks when Gear 2 will came out. Let's see how Tizen android and XDA fit together. I guess we will be able to flash Android on the Gear2 too. Cause of those XDA geniousses...Then watch thos in depth review videos on youtube...i don't really know what to expect from gear 2 and tizen...
But i would bet my ass that with the Note 4 a new Galaxy Gear will arrive...i really don'T know...but it could be smart to not buy gear 2 and buy the Galaxy gear cause it became cheap...i do not want to miss my gear...
oh and for that police violence videos i just opened a thread. say that you want this feature there. So devs will see people are interested not only me.

They're tiny, yes. But are they really that much smaller than the phones we were using to browse the web a few years ago?
I successfully made a homemade version of Google Cardboard. I used the plans that are available on the internet. I had to make some minor modifications to get it to work with my S5. First, I cut some extra holes for the power button and volume buttons to prevent them from getting pushed while in use. I had a couple of round small magnets that were being used as a fastener which fit nicely. Seems one magnet is used to hold the other magnet in place. The two magnets need to slide over each other to get the switch action.
The biggest modification I had to make, was to move the lenses further apart to get the images to line up. I am using lenses I found at Michaels and a set of fold-out lenses that were making up a cheap pair of binoculars. I need the most powerful magnifying glass I could find, in combination with the fold-out lenses. The Michaels magnifying glass was actually combined with lighted tweezers but had a magnification of 4X and was the right size.
Good luck should you try this project, It was worth a few hours of work.
Hi,
I also made it. In general it is successful but the application is limited.
Is tehre a way to view our own 3d videos for example ?
also, I couldn't find any developer forum or cotact about this.
Any ideas ?
thx.
I found one forum that had a good discussion about cardboard. For the most part it was a discussion on finding the parts for construction and their frustrations on finding the lenses. I did not bookmark it and have not been back to the site, sorry. The Oculus Rift site has some discussion about Cardboard, but again not much useful information.
I did a search in the Play Store and found a couple of apps that worked with the Cardboard goggles. My search was for "VR". The best app was "rollercoaster" and another was some jet flying program. A hang gliding program needed some type of keyboard input, it probably would work with some type of Bluetooth controller that I do not have. You might find some 3D viewer that would work with your videos. The only limitation would be control, the magnetic switch does not seem to be supported yet.
thanks for your reply.
actually I would like to have these:
- open 3d video file from my old Fujifilm 3D camera
- open side-by-side 3d videos
- open 3d videos on Youtube (currently it only shows popular Youtube videos -not 3d but in a 3d effected view)
- visit any place on Google Earth in 3D (currently only 4 cities supported on Cardboard app)
have you seen any app that do one or more of these ?
I still see no developments about cardboard. too sad.
Anyone have alternatives to the lenses needed for Cardboard? That kinda kills the project for me

The Google Earth demo supports the entire earth. It only starts in the four cities. You can fly into the sky and the fly back to anyplace on the planet. It is really amazing. As for your own content, you just need to output them as a side by side video or jpg. I look at my own images this way.
Also, for anyone wanting the physical viewer, just by a my3d. you can find them for $7.99 on amazon. It's a failed 3d viewer for the iphone. It has removable backs and you just leave it empty then hold it to your phone. Works great with the cardboard app.

Any NFC tags will work I imagine, as long as your phone has an NFC radio. You'll want to mount the tag in the cardboard so that it can be read by the phones NFC radio. Program it with the URL cardboard://v1.0.0

thanks. now I see that I can go to any place on Google Earth demo. But for example I wanted to visit London. and I could not see any 3d buildings. However, in Google Earth there are several 3D buildings for London.
what do you think ? Am I doing something wrong ?
I want to try Shadowgun VR, but it requires a bluetooth controller and my hands are already full with google cardboard.
i bought it from googlecardboard.com last week . if anyone know please reply .

While you can't play without a controller, it'll fly you around and when you stop you can at least look all around you. Worth a try because it's the most detailed/smooth world available at the moment IMO.
Also, I modded my headset to be hands free. It only took about 10 mins and a pair of old ski goggles. I used the padding from the goggles as well to line the cardboard to stop RNS (red nose syndrome).

Google Cardboard with NFC tag
Once the headset has been constructed, install the cardboard app on your handset, tap the handset against the NFC tag and slot it into the headset. Then you can watch YouTube videos, take a virtual tour around Paris or immerse yourself in an interactive story about a hat.

I too have this up and running and where there a few apps and games currently available i can see its potential is huge. Shadow Gun looks great, i do have a Bluetooth controller however the main problem I have is that once the phone is in the cardboard unit you have to constantly take it in and out to open and close apps, my controller doenst have all the correct buttons mapped to browse android properly. Can anyone recommend a cheap bluetooth controller which has keys and also works as a gamepad, big ask?
Love gear vr but I was hoping to be able to at least download and watch movies that are semi current. At least I thought I could watch Google play movies in vr.
After watching the demos, there's not much else to do (not into games. Just movies which is why I purchased)

This is why they reiterate that this is for developers and not consumers. There's no reason to be disappointed if you read what it could do right now before buying. The consumer wish list might come true tomorrow, or might not happen for awhile or ever on this edition.

It would be much easier if one of the VR video player supported Ultraviolet DRM (most Blu-ray releases let you download an MP4 with this type of protection).
Until we have that or a native store, you could always pay for the movie, then feel alright with downloading it. If you prevent seeding (by setting an upload cap of 0 perhaps), you're not contributing to others downloading without paying. It's totally a moral gray area, but something you could consider if you're really dedicated to buying movies to watch in VR (in a roundabout way); and definitely something for torrenters to consider now and then (paying for discs or downloads, that is ).
There's probably going to be more free content out there as time goes on, too. It's a small trickle now, but I've been seeing more and more 360 video interest, manufacturers, and content over the past several months.
Finally burned a cd and converted to mp4. Works well but takes too long. I'm not the type to spend 30 mins making a compatible movie.

Quality of the images is good, the experience is comfortable, it has some extra information about each image even showing you where on a map it was taken, relaxing music, etc etc.
Happy I bought it, totally worth the $3 ... I've paid more for my first VR experience back in the 90s and this was way more impressive .. Plus I can watch it again as many times as I like
It ends in a 360 panoramic photo, which DOES have stereoscopic 3D ... Very very cool indeed.

if you are outside the USA you will need to use VPN software and open Oculus home with VPN enabled. Then you will get access to more content such as paid games and several free things like MilkVR and more.
Get HOLA from the playstore, that will get you there.
