first lets get android to woks properly on X1, before going for Mego or maemo.
write the title normal then people might even consider coming here...
why work on android when meego/maemo is way much better.
what is meego / maemo???
maemo is based on linux (nokia n900) meego.... successor of maemo

Maybe because android porting is already at 3/4 while maemo is 0.

Thats just your personal opinion.
I say yes, but not same people as android, so android porting wont slowdown. And if same developer would do it, i'd say first make android port good enough for everyday use.
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS WILL WORK ON THE X1??

The n900 version will boot into the console, with correct kernel and settings, this is probably not what you want.
Any linux will work, the kernel needs some work yet. You will not have a fully working phone.

Touchscreen not working right as of yet... I strongly suggest a USB mouse and Keyboard for this... Touchscreen is pretty much unusable at this time. I would appreciate any help that can be offered.
First start off downloading THIS. It is the ROOTFS.. first off it needs to have the /etc/fstab edited properly to include / as mmcblk0p11 instead of 13... I know I know... This is a work in progress....
Next download THIS... Contains the ubuntu kernel and boot information.. the boot.img and system.img are for your stock ANDROID rom of choice.. just extract the IMG's out of the roms and place them in the folder..
Download THIS and place it in the directory you extracted the above files to.
ADB does work.. and you can ADB into your tab.. I have not created Windows directions yet.. but you can pretty much run the same commands...
I AM NOT TO BLAME FOR ANYTHING! This REPARTITIONS your device and ERASES EVERYTHING... you must do a FULL ODIN to restore to STOCK.... I am NOT responsible for anything that happens to your device.
remember to chmod +x nvflash and the script...
And wait......... It takes about 20 minutes to flash everything... be patient..
When it is done flashing boot up like you were going to go into CWM recovery... Your recovery is now your linux boot image.. You can use NVFlash to flash back CWM to apply whatever and just flash the linux.img back to partition 8 to get ubuntu back..
Thanks again to LilStevie.. without him this would not be possible...
my github code is availabe here.
If you would like to donate for my work and to the OMFGB/OMGB build box which I own and run click HERE
I'll pretty this up when I have a free minute...

I don't have much experience with the locked bootloader SGT's... Im sorry I can't answer your question...
I'm sure there's tons of interest. These tab 10.1 threads seem so slow at times. a lot different then I'm used to. I'd keep goin with it bro. its gonna be sweet.

This would derinately be useful to me, even more so if it could be dual booted, although I suspect my locked bootloader could be a stumbling block. Thanks for the effort you've put in so far.

yes please definitely interested in getting a version which fully works with the touch screen , that would be awesome!!
Of course were interested. Stop slacking and get past an alpha stage to a bets stage so we can all play.
Goodwork
This is friken cool man!
Keep on it, i would love to have ubuntu+ touch screen working.
I have a locked bootloader, but I would love to see this dual boot along side of honeycomb.

This is awesome! Great job. I can't wait for a dual boot setup.
This is awesome! Definitely keep up the good work. It should work on a locked tab no problem you'll just need to use Odin instead of nvflash so a bit of modification is needed to wrap those images into md5 files for Odin. If I have some free time I'll try it on my locked tab.
Wow I just saw the video and I'm very impressed, I can see this making my netbook redundant I'll try it out once it becomes odin flashable and I have the time to find out more about how it works.
Thanks again for the effort so far.

Yes, I would love to see some Linux working on a galaxy tab with touch screen functioning at minimum.
I was following viewsonic grab Ubuntu thread since last December but developers never got it working. Also video drivers was generic ones without hardware acceleration, camera and sensors did not work either... but this was less important for me then touch screen functionality.
If you can make it happen then by all means you should continue...
nice...
would any of the existing tegra2 development from motorola help? they got ubuntu running on the atrix device.. maybe something can be used?
im pretty sure it can be distributed onto many devices, as the ventana platform is standard, but drivers for touch, panel etc is missing..
how did you get the boot changed? how is the bootloader able to boot between 2 different kernels? do you have the source for bootloader available?

+1. I agree, especially about the Touchscreen, not many have the USB adapter to play around with it so that's probably why the reply count is low.
I think once it's usable without a mouse and keyboard you will see an explosion of interest in this. It's really a good idea to... really opens up the power of these things. Android is nice but it's kiddy stuff compared to a full blown Linux distro.
Linux for Tegra should help provide native 3D acceleration and stuff to If I'm not mistaken... I see a bright future for Ubuntu on tablets. (for nerds like us anyways )
Please don't stop development! lol I really look forward to it
Today I got a system update notification so I installed it (I'm running stock Asus rom; I was hoping for android 4.4 :laugh without really giving it much attention.
After it installed the update, it kept showing the Asus boot screen 'ASUS Inspiring Innovation . Persistent Perfection' with the moving circles underneath the text.
After half an hour I decided it took too long so I pressed the power button but it again kept hanging at that same screen. :crying:
Finally I wiped the tablet and it came back to life. But there was something odd, at 'About' I saw I was running android 4.2.2 in stead of 4.3 I was running before the failed update. I tried checking for an update but there was none according to the tablet
After I downloaded WW_epaduser_10_26_1_7_UpdateLauncher.zip from the website and extracting it to the sd card root, it started updating :fingers-crossed:. This time it went well and I was running 4.3 again (too bad I have to restore everyting) but when I checked at the tablet if there was an update available, it said there was! Except the version number wasn't higher but lower! it wants to download 10.14.1.28 while I'm running 10.26.1.7.
Has anyone else got this false update notification? is there something wrong @ the Asus servers?

The same issue here.. I did an update today hoping that it will be a new version of android and I did not really look very well at what it is doing as last time it worked flawless!
After this update my tablet is dead! I tried hard reset and re-installing the firmware and nothing works!
I don't want to wipe and restore everything !
I just received the update as well. But I didn't go through the ordeal you all went through. It went quite smoothly actually!
I also received a firmware update that was very new. It's the 10.26.1.18 The kernel was also updated to December 18.
Had anyone noticed the brightness issue resolved? For that matter, has anyone noticed ANY changes? My hope is the issue where you had to click on the "smart saving" icon in the drop down menu isn't needed anymore (to fix the interment brightness issues.)
The only thing I saw was a pop-up when the update was completed. It said Asus has a new program built into the device that will send usage information and statistics to them to help find any issues and keep it up to date. Then it asked if I understood with an option to click a check mark. I didn't click it.. I don't want to share my information with them. Are they nuts?

but did you get the older 10.14.1.28 as well? or did you get a newer version than you already had?

Hello, fellow XDA users! I just got an update notification from ASUS on my TF701T OTA. Here are a couple of pics as proof and basic version.
They have remade the UI completely, using their new ZenUI on the newer Transformers. I'm going to see what they've changed in further detail, but some older apps, like MyLibrary, are no longer supported. Also, this update is not on ASUS' website as of this moment. I'm not sure if they will upload it even... just like the last one.
If anyone else has this update, please post here and share if there is anything radically changed/fixed!
Giod news! Let me guess, TowelRoot not working anymore?
I've received the update as well. Towelroot does not seem to work after a short try.
Gesendet von meinem K00C mit Tapatalk
Changing to ZenUI may be the reason this took so long to happen. I'm still waiting to receive the update but I'm looking forward to it. Good to see they haven't abandoned the TF701!
Bittersweet. There is an update but root through towelroot is gone. I'm on the fence on this one.
TF701 / TF700 / NEXUS 7 (2013)
I hope sbdags can update CROMI-X with this...
Can somebody please try the different towelroot versions on the latest OTA? Please? Please?

What's the best/worst about the Zen UI?
Unbelievable... I thought for sure ASUS had abandoned us! This is great, unexpected news!
Yes -- someone *needs* to upload that OTA file so our devs can take advantage of the new build. In fact, the file should be thrown up on a repository for anyone to try!
Good news - looks like CROMi-X lives!! Version 7 as soon as I an get my hands on it

I just tried it and it worked (I opened a video from a flash drive I have). But there is something peculiar now:
At first, I plugged the drive in the USB 3.0 port and I got a notification about inserted storage media. I opened it from there and it went into the stock ASUS File Manager. From there everything was a-OK. Then I tried opening it from ES File Explorer. The USBdisk1 was there and everything was as it should be but there was another "drive" below my flash drive. It was just a string of numbers. When I tried opening it, ES asked if I wanted it to be the default manager for this drive. I just said "yes" and then it blurted out an error that the drive couldn't be opened. From there on the USB flash drive just disappeared. A simple unplug and plug back in fixed that problem. Nothing was even damaged. The random-string-of numbers-drive was still there upon replug, though.
tl;dr: Everything works for me but there is SOMETHING ASUS might've changed around.
If your flash drives don't open, first try the tried method of plugging the docked tablet into power, turning it off, booting into recovery, unplugging for a short while so you can navigate the menu, going to the "cold-boot" option (middle button), pressing it and IMMEDIATELY plugging the power back in as it is cold booting. It usually fixes any dock ailments I might have (until I dock it in a few times ). If that doesn't help you, the most radical measure is to factory reset the tablet while it is docked and IN the power outlet. If all else fails, try your warranty...

Hmm in a way I'm glad.
You won't get it back though as it was built into their framework - presumably not part of their zenui.
Yeah, I am glad in a way too, makes one less button that I accidently press because I picked up my wife's tf700 and think I am pressing "back". Just like Asus to remove a feature with an update... anyone remember when you could adjust your hdmi output on tf700 to scale or zoom? I do... still weeping for my lost feature.

I think some one ported to redmi note 4 with sd625 soc with necessary libraries and stuff i dont know. May be devolopers need to take a look
If the devs really want to, I'm sure they will.
Right now, the 7.0 ROMs are dying off, and they are working on 8.0 ROMs.
If it is already ported over to this xhipset, it should be as simple as merging it with the some existing source for device specific stuff, and flashing it. Easy for anyone to do if they want. As a side note, this thread is for Google camera, where did the redmi info come from??
