5.0.1 sleep whilst charging - LG G Watch R

Hello. Can someone helo me. Had my watch a week and i love it but yestersay it got uodated to 5.0.1 and ever since then when i dock the watch in the cradle the screen wont switch off.
I cant remember how long you have to wait normally on old software but i left it 10 mins and still say there in dim mode.
Any ine else had this problem? Had ro put it in cinema mode to get to sleep lol
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Lee

just leave it there. It will turn off automatically (except if you turned on the always-on feature under development options).
I don't care when it goes to sleep ...it just does. I'm finding the watch sleeping in the morning.

for me, its actually the other way: the display will immediately turn off when charging when I enable the screen always on setting in the developer options

Wow ... that's weird ... I must try that on 5.01 .

[Q] What is the "Auto sleep"?

As the title says, what is it? I mean how does the auto function? couldn't find anything about it on XDA or the Owners Manual.

I'm guessing that it adjusts the timeout accordingly.
Like if you were to put it down (but face-up) it'll decrease the timeout down to 15 seconds or something like that. Whereas if you're holding the phone normally, it'd be something like one minute.
Probably just smart stay esque feature.
Quick check of camera to see if your looking at the phone. Not like this is a Samsung thing, there are apps in the play store that do this.
Yeah it's screen time out so if you set it for 1 minute the screen will stay on for 1 minute then shut down
Yeah its like smart stay, try waving your hand in front of the phone and not touch the phone, it wont sleep. Dont work very well as sometimes I lie phone down for a sec but as there is no movement it sleeps quickly.

Nice. I keep wondering why HTC doesn't advertise some of these features - Samsung keeps touting them but even though HTC has something similar, sometimes better and sometimes not, it isn't mentioned anywhere. They really need to up their marketing efforts.

It is autosleep OR a time. So it's definitely not 1 minute. Will have to try this
I sent the question to HTC & today got this lame answer:
Please note that you can use the sleep mode in order to put the device in standby mode when you are not using the screen for a long time the screen will go in sleep mode " Standby" automatically

After doing some testing, I have found the following pattern with "Auto sleep":
If the device is held vertical (holding the phone up) or at an angle, in other words, you are actually looking at the screen; the display will sleep in about 1 minute of not touching the display.
If the device, after use, is put on a table (horizontally), the display will sleep in about 15 seconds.
So it seems that "Auto sleep" uses the gyro sensor, not the Camera.
Sounds similar to Screeble. ...a must-have app IMO.
I think auto sleep uses the camera and the proximity sensor to determine if you're looking at the phone, because for down reason it doesn't work in a completely dark environment like a bedroom at night, even though I was looking at the phone dead on..... It's an interesting feature nonetheless

No must-have anymore... with this auto sleep function built in. It's in HTC One X too with the 4.2.2 update.

As stated before, it's probably using sensors to increase time-out, not to disable time-out entirely, like smart-stay does, probably using less energy then smart-stay.

Will give it a try since it is one less app on the phone... I like that I could set up the angle for which it is activated both for portrait and landscape with Screeble. I don't control anything with the sleep function. Also, I get the impression the phone will still shut off at some point...doesn't with Screeble.
Answer
I was intrigued to know the answer myself. Not being able to find the answer, I tried the following on my phone:
I placed the phone horizontally on a table and left it there without touching the screen or moving it until the screen turned off. It took 1 minute for the screen to time out.
I placed the phone at an angle (approximately 45 degrees) and left it still without touching the screen or moving it until the screen turned off. Again, it took 1 minute for the screen to time out.
I grabbed the phone and moved it constantly without touching the screen. I keep doing this for over 2 minutes and the screen never timed out. I got bored, so I put the phone down and from that moment, it took 1 minute for the screen to time out. I tried this at different angles and I realized the angle doesn't really matter as long as the phone is in motion.
This made me to conclude the phone uses the the gyroscope when "auto sleep" is selected to determine when to turn off the screen.
I might be wrong but you can try this yourself. I hope it helps!

What rom version are you running? What you explained would explain why the phone does not sleep when I put it down in the car's cupholder, as long as the car is moving the phone would vibrate/shake & hence does not turn off the display. This is with the Android 4.3 updates (leaks & official 3.22 developer edition).
Previously, Android 4.1 & 4.2 roms, if the device was held vertical (holding the phone up) or at an angle, in other words, display would sleep in about 1 minute of not touching the display. If the device, after use, was put on a table (horizontally), the display would sleep in about 15 seconds.

I'm using CleanRom 6 with Android 4.3. Now that you mention it, I realize I hadn't noticed this on 4.1 and 4.2. I use Pandora all the time. I started wondering when my phone would stay up the whole time I was driving. I never had this issue with 4.1 and 4.2. Good to know!

Incertcoin (on SVN R111) now has the auto sleep working like before, 1 minute if held upright, or 15 seconds if placed on a table. I think @baadnewz used the "SmartDim.apk" from an older rom that before auto sleep changed .

yes i used the 4.2.2 base one because i didn't have time to properly debug the current one and fix, but so far using the old one doesn't break anything it just fixes the issue. credits are due to @yxtl he had the issue and stress him enough to make trial and error .
I believe it uses the gyro/motion sensors to adjust the timeout...if I have my HTC One docked in my car with auto sleep enabled, it will never time out the screen, unless I come to a light and stop...but the motion of the car actually on the road is enough to keep it alive.
Cheers

I wish HTC provided some kind of documentation for this...

Screen won't stay off, keeps waking up

This has has happened to me 3 times so far while I am plugged in charging overnight. I'll wake up to see that my screen is on. If I hit the power button it will shut off, and then come back on in a second or two. Even if I flip it upside down so the screen is down, I can still see that the screen is still coming on. The only way for me to fix it is to reboot the phone. Anyone else experiencing this?

No, that's not it. I'm not talking about how it will come on every 3 seconds when you have a notification. I'm talking about turning fully back on so I can see my home screen.

Nope, that isn't checked. And normally this isn't an issue, only a sporadic thing.
Happened to me again last night, woke up and noticed the screen staying on around 5am. I tried disabling the active display but it didn't stop the screen from coming back on after I shut it off. I did find that when I unplugged it from my charger, the screen stopped coming back on. Does this give anyone any clues?

I believe Safe Mode is still in Android. Try it. Warning: it will break your home screen widget layout.
If it is something that I installed, how can safe mode help me determine what it is?

The same reason it does in Windows. You use it to narrow down what is causing it. If Safe Mode cures the issue, you know for sure its an installed app. From there, process of elimination.
Right?
Just got the phone and have had this happen a few times also. No apps installed that I didn't have on my previous phone.
After a bit more testing I have more information. It seems like it only happens when it is plugged in and has reached a full charge. Once I unplug the phone from its charger, the screen stops coming on by itself. This is still some kind of bug, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to keep the screen off even if it is fully charged and plugged in.

Well I didn't think it was something that effected everyone, otherwise I would have found a thread on it. I'm going to try using a different charger tonight and see if that makes a difference.

Fair enough. I still think its an app installed though.
By any chance do you have the notification enabled for when the battery is fully charged?

No, I don't.
Ive tried this for two nights and it doesnt seem like I've had this issue since using a different charger...
My problem turned out to be the button accidentally being pressed and the screen lock setting being set to "5 seconds" after hitting the button, as opposed to right away. So the screen was going off, it wasn't locking, and an errand touch of the side of the phone while moving it would make the screen come back on without seeing the lock screen again because it was within the 5 seconds that the setting enabled. I was not familiar with this setting being on my previous phone and the Turbo was set to this by default. Hope this helps.
I agree that it is a bug, however, I was wondering, is there a way to get rid of that screen entirely? Frankly all that screen does for me is waste the battery, so being able to not have it at all would be great.

[Q] Screen doesn't stay on anymore

When I bought the watch back in November, the screen would stay ON all the time. I know it to be a fact because I used to leave it on a desk without ever touching it (for hours) and it would always display the time (it was like having a desk clock, for when I would rather not wear it to have more comfortable wrists while writing or that sort of things).
Also in the train (I used to travel a lot in that period) I would leave the watch hung on the wall while sleeping (at night) and it would not turn itself off, so I could check the time in case I woke up in the middle of the night, without neededing to reach for the watch.
Recently (it was January) I noticed that it does not work like that anymore. After a very short time, the watch screen goes off. It is still in standby: it goes back on if I touch it or press the button.....but I want it to stay on 'without limits' (in dimmed mode). It was like that before.
Somehow this is the behaviour of the 'keep screen always ON' setting.....but in fact, that setting is already set to 'ON'.
So is there some kind of firmware update that changed this behaviour? I would like the clock to not go off when it is not on my wrist, sometimes I just need to keep track of time AND have my wrists free....and it is not possible anymore.
nothing?
It is actually a key feature....no point in having a watch that doesn't show the time unless you touch it (if you leave it on a desk or simply hung on a wall at night). Also I wonder why it changed (did not do this last year so I thought it must be some update but could not find anything in the changelogs about this).
You have the Setting enabled in Android Wear for keeping the screen Always On?
My screen only goes out when on the charger. When I had a Samsung Gear Live, it would stay on while on the charger, via the Developer Setting on the watch to keep the screen on while charging. But that has never worked for me on the "R", not even last year.
The screen of the watch goes off while charging (although I remember it being different back in October...).
The settting for 'screen always on' is activated. I activated from the watch, from the phone, restarted the watch, nothing worked. The screen goes off after a while IF I DO NOT wear the watch.
No problem if I wear it....that means there is some connection between the screen going off and the accelerometer :-/
But as I said, I need the watch to stay on even if I am not wearing it (working at a desk or similar when I can't wear the watch, I would look at the time at the watch lying on the table). I am sure 1000% it did not turn off before (started in January, or at least I noticed it in January). I read all the changelogs for all the updates and I did not find anything about this.
Can someone also try? My brother has the same watch and his also goes off if he does not wear it. I find this really unneeded. At least they should have put a setting available.
You best option is Wear Charging Widget. It will keep the screen on when charging. Although it does dim a bit, like a night clock in a mostly dark room. It is the only option I've found that works.
I wanted the "R" to work like my old Gear Live and keep the screen on when charging and even when not wearing it. But I've never found a means for that to happen short of Wear Charging Widget.

Yes it looks it is like that now. Maybe you bought the watch after the two last updates (501 / 502) ?
Would be nice if somebody else, besides me, could confirm that in fact the watch was staying on (dimmed mode) all the time even without wearing it in the previous months (release date to December).

I've had my "R" since last year, before v5 came out for the watches. And the "R" never kept the screen on while charging. I never noticed it involved simply not wearing it. Since when I'm not wearing, I'm charging.

Screen shuts off completely
The screen on my GWR has started shutting off, completely dark not dim. I checked the settings and it is set to "Always on screen": ON.
This is a fairly new problem, it did not used to behave this way, I could see the screen dim, and move my wrist and it would go bright and display "OK Google".
Any ideas on how to fix this bug? Or do I/we need to wait for a software update/fix? Current software version: 5.0.2
Watch is not very useful if I can't see the time without having to push the crown/button.
Anyone else having this issue?
Screen is working again.
Had some time to try some options, did a "Reset Device" and the screen came back.
Lost all the apps I had loaded on the watch, not a big deal, wasn't using many of them.
Guess I can just download them again from the play store, if I want them back. Something I loaded onto the watch may have caused the loss of the screen.
Last couple of apps I downloaded were CompassX and a charging app that shows charging progress while charging.
Glad to have the watch face back.
I'm having the same problem as you. The ambient mode won't come on. Instead of dimming to ambient mode it now just goes dark completely (like when it is charging). I would love another fix before I have to reset the watch. Any ideas?

I confirm that I have this trouble also in normal use, previously it worked fine and would stay on all the time if that's what I wanted.
Am very tempted to reset the watch after backing up.
I have nearly the same problem. For months now, when my screen dims, it goes to a very dark/dim red. I've removed all programs from my phone and did a factory reset on the watch three times. I'm not sure what else to try. Is there a way to flash the memory? It seems like a setting is stuck in the non-volatile memory.
I was having the same problem and found that I had theater mode set on. Switched to off and now works great.

I'm experiencing the same. On my watch it seems to be somehow related to accelometer. Almost everytime, when using LG G Watch R in golfing, it starts to shut down the screen. It doesn't wakeup even when tapping the screen.
I haven't found other solution than resetting the device
Same issue with 5.1.1
I had this issue with 5.0.2 and hoped that the next update would solve it but sadly it persists in 5.1.1 .
Theatre mode is off, Always on is on but still the screen blanks, showing the ambient mode screen briefly before blanking.
I've reset multiple times, occasionally Always On comes back but only for a short while.
Always on is a feature I really like
Fixed it on mine
I had to turn wrist gestures on. With it off screen on doesn't work.
I have the exact problem on my GWAR, software version 5.1.1. I bought my in December and it never happened until now. It started happening yesterday all of a sudden. I tried factory reseting it through bootloader, throught settings, uninstalling the Wear app, uninstalling the watchface i was using, and still nothing.
Here is what I did to fix it (and i know its overkill): Uninstall Wear app, clear google play services data and reset the device through settings. Now it's finaly working.

OP3T turning on by itself?

Hello guys,
I have recently moved away form my Oneplus 3T to another device (?).
I turned it off after the switch but the next morning, exactly at 9:30, it turned on by itself from completely off without me even touching it. I though, weird, and I turned it back off.
This has been happening every morning at 9:30 am since a week.
I don't remember the auto turn on function is even a thing on Oxygen OS.
Is my phone possessed? How do I turn it off for good?

Notifications turn on screen

I have been searching looking for way to make this work with no solution.
I have disabled AOD since it is consuming battery heavily and wanted notifications to behave as on stock android where they turn screen on. My note 8 is receiving notifications and LED turns on, but screen doesn't. I have to manually turn it on to be able to see the lockscreen notification.
Is there any way to make this work?

I use "Dynamic Notifications". It lights up notifications when screen is locked. There's a certain amount of customisation, including screen on time. Used it on many of my phones including Note 8.
Wait.. You want the screen to turn on for every notification?
I hate that... Some apps even ignore the settings either way.

Same here, that would drive me nuts if the screen turned on for every notification. It's bad enough the screen turns on everytime the phone is plugged in/unplugged from USB or from a wireless charger.

Thanks. The rom I'm using is actually supposed to have that disabled but I don't think it works for wireless charging, only cable. I never never charge with the cable anymore. But whatever, I prefer not to install apps just to disable one minor thing.
I understand you, I also prefer wireless, but, it works with wireless too
There must be a build prop tweak or something but I can't seem to find one right now.
Maybe a PM to a nice dev and they could tell you where to look. Report for community if you figure it out
