Hi all,
For some reason, my Hero's screen would not go pass the lowest brightness setting. At first I thought that the original screen was the issue, but I've replaced that and it's still happening. If I increase the brightness slightly, it would start flickering, and if I increase it a lot it would flickers and then goes out (but everything still works, I just have to blind slide the bar down to the lowest brightness setting). Also I can not see the boot screen/recovery/anything before the lockscreen, which means I can't flash a ROM without using ROM manager.
Has anyone ever had a problem like this or know what's causing the problem and how I can fix it? I appreciate all the help. Thank you!
Hello. I updated my T to JellyBean two days ago. I turned auto-brightness off because I thought Sony changed something and it's was working differently - the screen was always as black as possible just like there was no light around me. I just checked Service Menu and Ambient Light Sensor data. Result? Constant "0" value wherever I am - in dark room or outside at direct sun. Do you have the same problem too? Maybe JellyBean breaks ALS for now?

Mine says 0 as well, but i have no problem with the display, auto brightness works.
Are you saying auto brightness is broken on your phone?
Odp: [Help] Broken ALS on JellyBean?
Ummm yes. My bad I should have described it better. Yes I think it's broken, because ALS always shows "0" so the screen dims to the minimal value and it's totally ureadable outside with auto brightness turned on. When it's turned off it's ok, no problems at all.
I had no problems on ICS, auto brightness was always turned on and screen brightness was always set to the value where on the brightness widget that sun icon is "off" so it could adjust itself. And I had no problems in dark rooms where the screen was "correctly" dark and outside where it was very bright. Without manual messing with the brightness.

ok,
does yur screen change brightnes when you turn auto brightness off in settings?
Odp: [Help] Broken ALS on JellyBean?
I have it turned off now I couldn't use the phone because screen was too dark.
But yes, the brightness changes:
Turning AB on = brightness does not change at all. After turning screen off and on brightness drops to the minimum like I was in a dark room.
Turning AB off = brightness gets back to normal just like it's set.

Same for me, auto brightness act strange on my device too. When I thick "adjust brightness" sometimes nothing happends, not every time but it's not normal...
I'm just wondering, on ICS/JB, under brightness, mine had 'Adapt to lighting conditions' but I was still able to adjust the brightness :/
Does yours say auto brightness or adapt to lighting conditions?

Adapt to lighting condition/auto-brightness... In Polish it's "Dostosuj do oświetlenia" so in English it's "Adapt to lighting conditions" but commonly it's just called auto-brightness. I think it does not matter, we all know what's going on
Simply said - the tick option above the bar which you can adjust...
Constant "0" value read by ALS makes my phones screen always dark with auto-brightness on. Period On ICS there were no problems because ALS was working correctly.
EDIT:
I'll try to record a video and post it on youtube to show you my problem.

Same here...auto brightnes act strange on my device with JB.

Thread can be closed - problem solved. I did a total wipe (formatting every partition except the ones connected with sdcards) in CWM and reflashed the FW. Then, after booting the device I did not check the option with restoring my saved data (Wi-Fi passwords, Settings settings etc.). The problem is gone but still auto brightness works so different when compared to the ICS one.

My phone does show ALS value of 0 as well.. but auto brightness seems to work..
ALS value = 0 for me too!
Brightness increases but not decreases until the screen goes off...
I got back to ICS and ALS works fine!

Yeah you are right. I can revive the thread somehow for any other people here. Also for me because auto brighness does not work again
But I don't care. I use manual brightness for a very long time and I got used to it. No annoying screen flickering and any other stuff
Autobrightness works, but a little different way than on ICS. ALS looks like it's off, but als_results file gives different results in different light conditions and the screen brightness really changes.
But sometimes the sensor stops working for some reason and you have to reboot to repair it. This happened to me between 2 or 3 reboots after fresh install of rom and now it's fine. (maybe a problem with illumination service).
But don't forget that the screen brightness is affected by thermal throttling and values from factory are very low. I think about 50% brightness at about 45°C xo_therm temperature.
I prefer ICS way...
it also happens in Xperia V JB ..
Hi, got an HTC one recently but i'm having problems with autobrightness seems like the low brightness setting for for phone turns screen completely off. I went to brightness setting manually and drag the slider to the lowest point but the screen will completely turn off just before it reaches the last point so i downloaded lux from the store and checked it the screen while turn off below 15 lux. So my question is, is this a hardware defect or can i install firmware or anyother software to calibrate the light sensor? thanks guys.
I am using Z3+ single with Nagasaki 1.5 ROM
Especially when web surfing with Chrome, phone suddenly gets a bit dimmed(and go back to usual brightness again).
It is not the same as hot-phone-dimming, cause it does not restrict to change brightness back high or dimming smooth like the heat related dimming.
It dims right away, not like the smooth-sony-style.
Does anyone has same problem, or know how to fix it?
I have it, and I tought that my screen is buggy, I'm using stock rom tho, how can we fix that, Adaptive brightness is turned off?
Hi. Me and my friend have same model and when we try to unlock our phone in clear sunlight or bright light area I hear unlock click but screen stays black like its not recovering from deep sleep or something. My friend and I tried to removed back cover and its working fine which is a weird thing here, don't know its related or not but its working. Is anyone having this same issue? Screenshot of my brightness settings is attached
Sunlight mode will work only if auto brightness is off.
