What are in the stock updates? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know what has been fixed or updated from the original android 5.0 LNX build to the upgraded 5.0 build then from 5.0 to 5.0.1? I couldn't find a change log from google or fixes or anything for that matter
Thank you

Battery life is subjected to how you use your phone. Minimize your wake locks and ensure your phone is deep sleeping.
Battery life is hardly affected by a ota unless there was a crucial error on Google part causing wakelock which Google play services is the main culprit.

How to I ensure the phone goes into deep sleep when the screen is off?

make sure that you install apps that dont keep your phone awake.

Don't think I have any. Simms I'm still trying to kill my battery, but trying to not go crazy. I've noticed chrome is quite battery consuming...
Utorrent as well, but I expect that from a p2p client

MAJOR Battery problem!

I have recently bought a HTC One and the battery is behaving very poorly. My screen brightness is set to around 25% and I only have location services and Auto-Sync on and I can't even go half a day with this thing. I have tried running all kinds of different ROMs to see if that changes anything but it doesn't.Side note it was bought from Swappa if that changes anything.

Look at the first screen shot, warning signs already. Your screen was only on for 30 minutes and yet your phone was AWAKE for almost 5 hours. I see your using 3g data but your Wifi has been on for almost 6 hours. Also your phone radio is using up quite a bit of juice which I assume is because your signal isn't great. Biggest recommendation right now, turn off the location stuff, they are battery hogs. You should also download betterbatterystats which breaks down all the things keeping your phone awake
I also can propose to you to turn off the wi fi ... For me it eats my battery more than the 3G signal.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Even with low signal, this a very odd behavior. The battery is draining too fast.
Try downloading CPU-Z and check the active processor cores and sensor operation. You might have a defective unit.
Good luck.

Turning of WiFi has no difference in battery as well as turning off Mobile Network completely. I do think I have a defective unit though, but I have bought this off of Swappa and don't know where to start.

As Galactus said, get betterbatterystats to check your wakelocks.. A "Held Awake" time of almost 10x as much as screen on is no good!

Try the new ViperONE rom 3.1.0 it has much better battery performance, i had issues with battery too, but after flashing with this rom , it's much much better battery life.
I'm using Android Revoloution atm but I haven't tried viper yet, will probably try tonight.

In BBS you need to show us your partial wake locks and personally I find most roms to be the same regarding battery life. I don't think the device is defective, something whether its a rogue app or a messed up file is keeping the phone on when you have your screen off

Is this normal?

For the screen to cause fast battery drain like this? Another thing, the device gets immensely hot, very quickly when playing real racing 3. Even on power save. Is that a note 3 thing too?
Edit: would like to add that screen was on 95% of that time

Screen on time like that and high brightness will cause any phone to eat up the battery and get hot...Play games on a tablet ....

I'm not asking for a magic cure-all, but there's no way in the world I could afford any tablet, not on my payrate. I only got the note 3 by trading a bunch of stuff. I was just under the impression that new devices were supposed to get LESS warm than their older counterparts. This device reminds me of owning a tegra 3 phone..

How long was the screen on for?
It's normal for any device to get hot when playing games, especially when running graphically intensive apps. It has nothing to do with whether the device is old or new.
About 50 minutes out of the 55

That sounds about right then. Screen time can usually last up to 5 hours before the battery dies.
Installing dynamic kat actually 100% fixed heat and really improved screen on batt life. I only use 6-12% an hour. Depending on cpu load

Battery drain

How long have you had the rom? If you recently flashed then you need to let it sit for a day for the rom to settle. Learned that with the Dynamic Kat ROM.
If not, open the battery graph and check your wake time vs screen on time. A friend of mine had this issue on his S4 a while back. Clearing the cache and rebooting the phone worked for me. Worst case is you reflash the ROM.

That really sounds like a bit of voodoo. A ROM doesn't need to "settle" with regard to power usage.
Hey, that's what I was told in the DK thread, they said to let the rom settle for a couple of days. The first day I flashed the rom I was getting 4 hours of screen on time, three days later I started getting 6 hours of s.o.t. They had an explanation as to why this occurs but I forget what they said.
If you don't trust that, try recalibrating the rom by downloading an app that deletes the battery stats file.
Sent from my SM-N900A using XDA Free mobile app
I have heard that ROMs need time to settle many times. That is a myth. Resetting battery stats does nothing except erase battery stats. There is no calibration.
On your battery settings click on the graph this time. See how your network connection is. Could be an issue where you lose your connection and the phone consumes the battery searching for a network connection.
Also did you add anything new lately like an app or an email account?

Something's running keeping your phone awake. Try Wakelock detector to track that down. Also try the carrier iq thread idk what it does seems it fixed stuff for people and made their phone sleep better. Most of the time it's an app. I dont use greenify but people use it to hibernate user apps that run in background.

What could be killing my battery so quickly?

It seems that Android System uses a really high amount of battery, and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas, or would know how to find out.
My battery lasts around 5 hours anymore, doing the same thing I used to do when it lasted 17+.
Any help would be super appreciated.

I noticed that on 4.3, yeah, the phone radio was the biggest consumer of battery, butconsidering your usage, perhaps screen usage should be greater. Regardless, you're getting 4SOT/23.5SBY which is far better than I'm getting (2.5/14) on KK. lol
If you think about it, if nothing is waking your device, the phone radio is the only thing using power during sleep. So I guess it makes sense.
How about this? Supposing it has to do with the end of charge mechanic of the cpu, but it's worth a check.
Perhaps the battery is just going bad, after a year?
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app.
Any other ways I could see what's causing such a drain on the battery? I fear pretty soon keeping it plugged in won't even give it charge enough to stay on.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app.
Or maybe something about this may help figure it out? I put it in Airplane Mode while charging and it didn't seem to make a difference in the rate at which it charged.
Could that possibly narrow down the cause?

I just picked up the phone and started using it to read my Blinkfeed, and the battery suddenly dropped by a percent or two before it began charging again.

That google play services drain though... Try installing the Amplify module for Xposed.
I supose reflash soft, then freeze google services in tb, and unfreeze omly when they are needed. Maybe it will help

Well that's a bit extreme. You need Google Services for a lot of things, and that app is central to the android experience.
That's not to mention all the FCs he could get.
I find the phone stutters quite a bit too. Like freezes for a few seconds then carries on with what I'm doing.

tbh it's hard to tell. I would say do a TI backup and flash something fresh. If you like JB, I think viper 3.5 is good for you.
You could also try calibrating your battery. I did it, and it seems to have had, at the very least, a slight placebo effect .

Does Wakelock Detector (needs root - you didn't mention) give you any idea of what's draining it?
well, i see that you kept your phone screen on for about an 2 housr and 40 minutes in that 3 hour time frame. that will drain battery, and lots if you have your brightness set at a higher level.
