[Q] Any ROM out there with Wifi Calling on Tmobile? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just got a T-mobile Nexus 6 and it is unlocked, rooted, and flashed with a custom rom.
Just noticed today that the wifi calling is not an option! I've done some research and cannot seem to find a rom that is based off stock and retains wifi calling feature.
Can someone help me out??

it is a well known fact that google will release an update in quarter 1 of next year to support wifi calling for tmobile(if you did any searching at all, you would know this). with tmobiles code(which is proprietary), wifi calling is impossible. roms use open source code to develop on, wifi calluing is not open source at the moment, so no rom can legally include it. i dont know if you are familiar with nexus devices or not, but everything done on a nexus will be done legally.

It'll have WiFi calling by early next year.
Hopefully there will be a legal way for custom roms to incorporate wifi calling or have it included separately or included on the play store.
I'm not familiar how t mobile does wifi calling anymore but in the past it was in a separate app on the play store.

g2 wifi calling apk and logcat (doesnt connect on vibrant)

This topic is for development of the Wifi apk for the vibrant. Please DO NOT discuss what wifi means to you or how excited you are about it. I am posting this in hopes that a developer can make this work.
Only comment here if you can contribute and make this work. (what i have provided is the extent of my knowledge)
The apk installs, loads, but will not connect. It gets stuck on 'enabling' and shreads the battery trying.
Perhaps the servers are just not up yet since this is so new..
UPDATE: According to TMo News, T-mobile has stated that they do not support wifi calling yet... so hopefully this app not working is just a result of no server support yet..

Took a look at it and so far its either missing a VPN module or its pointing at settings that we dont have. Right now its looping trying to connect to localhost.
This does ADB install fine, but it doesnt connect if you disable it and try to re-enable it.
Side effect, it was constantly looping trying to connect the service and wasnt very happy about uninstalling when I tried, wouldnt recommend anyone install it unless they have the settings or an idea where we can grab them from
Soon as I get the OTA ill scour for the settings. Soon as I have any updates to it ill tweet/post
Thanks Viral, scepterr says it needs a kernel module and we need source code for that
Why ADB...just hit install...running it on Froyo, I cant tell if its working or not because Tmobile DID fix my signal at my house LOL

You can still make calls and it will say its working but if you turn it off and back on, itll eternally sit at attempting to make connection.

HTC is better about source code, maybe well get lucky and have that released quick and can patch that in *pokes JAC just in case*
It's using all of my CPU.
Interesting that it works after being pushed initially. Is there a way to freeze it in that state, without restarting it?

Pardon the off-topicness, but which app are you using in that SS?

The app he is using is called SystemPanel. It's very useful.
I suggest removing this app in the mean time. Its a CPU hog and 50% of my battery use.

According to TMO News, the wifi calling is not supported yet as stated by T-Mobile.
“Wi-Fi Calling and tethering Wi-Fi sharing are not currently supported on the T-Mobile G2. T-Mobile knows these features are important to consumers and we’re working to deliver them to G2 users in the future. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”

This was one of my theories... that would be an easy and good answer for why it will not connect yet...
Looks like theres no luck on the g2 end either, its still missing some configuration or something.

Adding to think tank section of the bible for easy retrieval just in case the thread slows.
Something tells me TMo is going to wait, either for the release of the MyTouch HD or they'll release it on a bunch of phones all at once as a way to boost sales before Christmas.
Looks like G2 will have this app soon enough. I can't wait to have it on the vibrant.
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/11/t-mobile-g2-to-get-wi-fi-calling-update-starting-tomorrow/
The reason why this app isn't working is because you need a Wifi calling plan which tmobile is rolling out soon and it requires a data plan of 19.99 or higher which pretty much everyone has because the 200 mb plan has not rolled out yet.
Has anyone gotten the wifi calling G2 OTA update yet? Can you let us know if the wifi calling now works on the G2? Thanks.
Yes and it works awesome!

Thanks. So it looks like both now the G2 and myTouch 4G are up and running with wifi calling. They both have in common that they are running 2.2. So am I to assume that the apk app on both of them is the same and that it will also run on the Vibrant once it gets the 2.2 update?

[REQ]WIFI CALLING APP (T-Mobile USA)

Hey everyone. can we get a working port of the WIFI calling APP from the G2, MyTouch 4G? Although T-Mobile USA blocks data, once we've flashed the euro rom and modem to get the phone capability back this should work right?
Thanks for some tips on how to get this working. I'm sure it will be great for the community..
you cant. not yet. all those devices needed a modified kernel. until we get that, it will never work.
well the mytouch and g2 did not need modified kernels but yes the nexus One and other older android phones on tmobile did. as far as i can see from a cursory read of those thread, there are specific lines in the build.prop file that have to be modified for our device but nothing terribly hard beyond that. i will continue looking but can someone also begin looking into this as well. How do we edit and what exactly needs to be edited in the Kernel to get the wifi calling app correctly ported to the Galaxy tab?
Thanks guys!
Any news or updates? Thanks
Just wanted to refresh this thread so we can get the attention of some knowledgeable people helping out. WIFI CALLING ON THE GALAXY TAB WOULD BE AWESOME!
WiFi Calling
I am not sure if this is what you wanted but I use sipgate. The service gives you a free number which allows both calling in and out using wifi or 3g data. I combined sip gate with the 3CXPhone app in the market. Works well for me.
thanks for the reply. but i'm aware of the VOIP possibilities out there thus far. i'd like the Tmobile Wifi app as i have the unlimited hotspot calling feature on my account.
any updates on wifi calling? can someone perhaps start a discussion on the relevant libraries that it uses? i'm not against giving it a try myself. i'm pretty competent.
man that blows :/
wifi calling would deduct from minutes. only uma calls are free with hotspot calling. i.e. blackberry and nokia type phones.
Wifi Calling on the MyTouch 4G does use your minutes
Tango and ooVoo?
are there any updates on this? next to 3g working with voice, this is my number one GOODIE on my tmobile tab!
Line2 works wonderfully

Seems there isn't large enough interest, I am interested....and will contribute to a bounty for this with $20.
I second that. Especially now that tmobile has just made wifi calling free (does not deduct from your minute allowance).

REALLY? Can you cite your source on that?
Now I want this! Can we wifi text for free? That would be nice.
story broke on tmonews.com - active as of 5/13 for even more & even more plus prepaid plans only (and of course those of us w/the g/f'd uma plan...)
bump. can we get an update on this please? even the HD2(stock winmo phone) has wifi calling now once an android rom is loaded. does anyone know any devs who can help getting this dream into reality?
can anyone recommend a rom that has the wifi calling app that works on the tab? i'd be willing to use one of those as i really need this functionality now.

First time Nexus owner, few simple questions.

Just switched to tmo and purchased a 64gb Nexus 6 from Motorola. Should be here next week.
I had a few device & carrier questions being this is my first Nexus device (besides tablets)
I will be using this device on T-Mobile but it's from the Moto store.
Who will I be getting updates from? T Mobile or Google directly?
I plan on flashing a custom rom (most likely Pure Shamu from what I've gathered) being that one model of nexus supports all carriers (radios).. I read that T-Mobile will be pushing an update to support wifi-calling (which I need in my home). Will that work on my particular device or is there a specific T-Mobile Nexus that I'd need?
Lastly, I do use wifi tether quite a bit, and on my current devices rom they have the unlimited wifi tether hack.
Is that something built into a rom or has to be done separately?
Thanks for any help that can be given.
Oh, forgot one question.
Also read up on the encryption ordeal.
I don't need that on my device but is there any benefit to have it or not have it enabled?
Again, thank you.

Nexus is GSM unlocked and should theoretically work on all carriers out of the box. I bought mine from the motorola store and is working without any problems.
Updates come from google directly.
If you want to use Wifi calling, I believe that you do have to be running stock firmware, nobody will know for sure until it gets released.
I believe Shamu allows you to bypass the tether limit. I'm currently using CM 12 and tethering doesn't count towards my tethering limit.
The only benefit of not having encryption enabled is faster boot times.

If you root your phone, you can add the hack yourself. I am on a stock rom, and my grandfathered data plan has no tethering allotment, but i can tether to my heart's content. I copied this from another thread:
I was able to work around the issue by modifying the following sqlite database (you'll need root):
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
You need to add a new entry to the global table called "tether_dun_required" with a value of 0.
It looks like you need to do this because some configuration data was added to Android for T-mobile that forwards tethered data to this APN: pcweb.tmobile.com
T-mobile is probably checking to see if your account has tethering enabled when you go through this APN.
After I made this change I also needed to change my APN settings so that it uses ipv4 instead of ipv6. It seems like tethering with ipv6 does not work 100% yet.
I hope this helps.

Definitely rooting and most like run a stockish custom rom. Hoping that's built in if not I'll take a look into that.
Most of the custom roms I've run on t-mobile have that built in and are preset to ipv 4 not 6 for that exact reason.

Turbo loses data when on the phone

I recently purchased a Droid Turbo to replace my broken BlackBerry Z10. I did the MOFO root with the tether option with 4.4.4 and every time I talk I lost my data connection. I read an article that mentioned this happening to the turbo, but it should of been fixed by now. I just got thru flashing another rooted ROM this time a 5.1 with the tether ability and still the same thing. I have noticed that with both roots the 4gLTE is white instead of blue, but I am unsure if that's the issue as Ive been running a BB for the last yr instead of a Droid. Any ideas? Has the game changed for Android rooted phones (is this normal)?
Thanks
All icons are now white ...that is no issue .. but there could be that these roms have bugs with signal ....

Thanks for the info.. I think you are probably correct, but I never checked it out before installing the altered ROMS... I pulled the cell out of the box and rooted it before I ever activated it... UGGGG live and learn
You gotta call Verizon to fix this, just have them enable "Advanced HD Video Calling" on your line and the problem will go away.
There is no extra charge. It basically enables VoLTE.

That was the problem to begin with... After I enabled the HD calling everything worked like a charm... I did kinda chew some ass lol... Why should I need to enable something when the phone should already be enabled?
You can also enable volte from the my verizon app.

Netflix and Video Calling Issues

Currently running XtrALite 2.2 (DOJ6) with Arter 7.2 kernel on my T Mobile S6. I've used the various fixes to get Netflix to stream but nothing seems to work. Are there any other fixes besides changing the model in the build.prop? Obviously I clear the data/cache and reboot after changing it.
The second issue is the built in video calling . Is it supposed to work on the T Mobile variant?
The video calling will only work with the T-Mobile firmware. Netflix, I don't know much about
Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
I actually realized this ROM didn't include that the other day. I thought it says it in the OP for it but it was actually something else. I love it and could easily deal with the lack of WiFi calling but not Netflix. For the life of me I can't get any fixes to work so I think I might switch. The life of ROM addiction I guess.
