If I root my moto x will I still get OTA updates? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys if I root my phone will I still get OTA updates?
Sent from my XT1092 using XDA Free mobile app

Yeah but they won't work. You'll have to restore the original system and boot images for the update to pass.

I might have deleted something from system/app, if I do a factory reset and retry will it work?
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
Nope...im in the same boat...
They told me you have to reinstall the missing system apps...
At the moment im searching for the stock at&t boot logo....any ideas?
You are rooted obviously
1. Backup apps with Titanium Backup
2. Flash Stock ICS with RSD
3. Root again and restore apps
4. Update to JB
I will do the same

You must be rooted to be able to Safestrap. I haven't gone through the Razr JB upgrade threads but I hope Rootkeeper works becuse I would not want to wait for a root method to be discovered.

To be on the safe side I would root then use OTA Rootkeeper, you may have to wait a while to get root and it will drive you crazy.
Did that on my tablet updating from ics to jb and install kept failing. Ill safely update then work on root myself. Rest assured all goes well and someone doesnt beat me too it i will be posting.

When using vodoo... does one have to simply click protect root and then update or is there more to it...
Sent from my DROID4 using xda app-developers app
To successfully maintain root and install the OTA do the following
Root Phone
Install VooDoo OTA RootKeeper
Update SuperUser binaries (from within the SU app
Open VooDoo and "Protect Root"
Then tap on "Temp Unroot"
Install OTA
Install VooDoo
Restore root
So... I forgot to do all this... I hope there is a root for jb coming soon still have su just no root...

Hey I am rooted and I did all the the steps before checking for an update. When I do it says my phone is up to date. So I changed the date on the phone and same thing happens. Any Ideas on how I can get the update?

Are you rooted with M1 build? I didn't get the update as well so I flashed mine back to M9 build and I get the update right away.
I am on the m1 build and do you have root now that you have the update?

I am also on m1 build and no update! I'm guessing this is why!

No. I don't have root anymore. The reason I rooted was to do sim unlock. After went back to M9 and got new update, mine is still sim unlocked. So, all is good for me.
I'm downloading m9 as I type! I will upgrade and root using Dg's method then hopefully ota will come

thanks for the fast upload...
but i cant install apps now... it just says Unfortunately PackageInstaller has stopped...
i moved it to /system/app and permissions changed to rw-r-r
any solutions? i searched google but no luck...
Since it is built in. You may just have to move it and reboot. Option 2 would be install system apps installer from the market and try it. Option 3, flash a ota or whatnot lol.

As long as the app doesn't need to be installed then yeah that should work. Is your write protection disabled or unlocked bootloader?

Pretty much gotta wait now until root is made for zv9 now
Sent from my LG-LS995 using XDA Free mobile app
Yep. Hopefully development on this phone isn't completely dead....especially with the LS996 coming out very shortly.
I really could use the PRL update along with the wifi calling update which I use frequently since the AirRave they sent isn't compatible with this phone (that's what sprint told me).

Ohkay so im completly new at this but I used stump roots brute force method on my LG-LS995, and it worked twice. Little did i know I had been upgraded to lolipop, so when I tried a wifi hot spot hack (messing up the actual process the first time) I ended up in boot loop. Im currently working on fixing my phone. I was dumb but I'm learning. Anyway, you can brute force v9 with stump root.
