I bought the 32 GB nexus 5 from Google received it in 3 business days. Little did I know how hard it would be to get a Sim card from Sprint. To make a long story short there is a gentlemen selling them in eBay. I didn't think to look there until I called every sprint store and tried calling sprint 3 times (hoping to a different answer). Just thought I'd let everyone know this is a possibility if you are like me and stuck with out a Sim card.

I had my N5 before the official sprint release. Impossible to even get a sim card even though a few stores told me they had them and they ended up being the wrong size...

If you ever in that situation again, Full sized sims cards can be chopped down to the size of a microsim and work perfectly fine.
Just cut it to size

If they are full size cards, they are really easy to cut to size for the N5. Many cell phone stores will do this either for free or for a small nominal fee. You can also try to do it yourself, if you are really careful. Or you can buy a micro SIM cutting tool for a few dollars.
Of course, if all you can get are nano SIMs, then you need to get an adapter instead. Again, shouldn't cost more than a few dollars.

Sprint is CDMA so most users don't have the LTE sim card.

same thing with me got the 32gb nexus 5 from the play store but I got a sim card ordered on nov 6th through chat but it still hasn't shipped yet so then I asked again on chat today when its gonna be shipped and was told it could be 10 days. even tried a few sprint stores around me and none of them have one.
Tell them you need a SIM card for a HTC One or S4 and don't show them the Nexus 5 until they bring it out. For some reason a lot of them are under the impression that the Nexus 5 uses some kind of magical SIM card and will just tell you they don't have it.
Thankfully I had a sim from my Htc One. BUT I since switched to tmobile after being on my moms sprint plan for about 4 years. It was a great decision to switch.
I have one
I ordered my N5 through Amazon to use on AT&T. I have the Sprint SIM card that came with it. I'm not using it, PM me if you any of you want it. I'm in NY to give you an idea of how fast it will get to you. I can send it out tomorrow.
I recall reading around(cant find source) that roughly 15,000 Sprint sim cards just went up and missing. They dont know if there were stolen or just misplaced. I will try to dig up some source for you all soon.
i called customer care and was told they would be happy to send me one but they were back ordered. it took me 4 stores but i was able to get one a sprint store just outside of boston. they had two. actually pulled out a baggie that said nexus 5 on it. thank god. hoping my phone will be in next week.

No they absolutely do not. Just made an Israelite journey out of several stores and they don't have any. Most are even sold out or out of stock of the 16GB model they carry which comes with a Sprint SIM.
Even tried begging if they could give or sell me one from any busted/broken/RMA'd Sprint phones that use micro SIM (S4, HTC One etc), but no dice.

Nano or micro SIMs? Everyone i went to had a boat load of nano SIMs but no micro SIMs.
Just pickup a nano to micro converter from Best Buy its about $10.00 and works like a charm
After being told by the local stores that I could not have any of their SIM cards, I hopped online with Sprint World Wide Chat last Friday, 15 NOV. They told me the cards were back ordered, but they would be happy to order one for me and ship it when it comes in at no charge. I accepted their offer and got a ship notice on Tuesday. The card arrived yesterday. I guess my point is that "back ordered" does not necessarily mean an indefinite wait. My N5 shipped last night and I should have it in my hands Monday morning, so I'm a happy camper right now.

I don't know about the S4 but the One (Sprint) will work on T-Mobile but the bands are limited, I don't recall the details but basically except in select locations you will only get Edge.
Sweet thanks! May use my insurance to get a decent backup phone.

Not sure if this is the right place but this post is just to inform people of what i learned the hard way today.
There are new SIM cards, they should come shipped with your phone. If you are like me, you just toss your old card in and go with it. I was unable to get LTE with it, but i didnt know that was the issue. I went to the store, they gave me a new SIM to try, and the same thing. The manager got involved and when she looked at the SIM she said it wasnt right. Apparently, the new SIM cards have grey and purple on them in one of the corners. Not 100% what it is but one of the guys said it had something to do with ISIS.
Anyways, long story short if you are getting 4g in the notification, but not LTE and you ,know you are in an LTE area, make sure you are using one of the new SIM cards, it is apparently a requirement because as soon as we put one in, i was good to go.

More than likely the ISIS issue has to do with a secure element SIM. LTE should be available as long as a LTE enabled SIM is used but it will be interesting to see if AT&T has changed the game again. I guess we will soon know when others try to use their LTE enabled SIMs (from their S4s) in their S5s.

I was using an LTE enabled SIM from my G2, and the new one they gave me originally was also an LTE enabled SIM. Thats the reason for this post. The new SIM has to be used, at least thats the only way they were able to get LTE to work on mine and i truly dont think thats coincidence.

That's interesting, but not surprising. I have to wonder if they did it to keep people from just switching SIM cards from an older phone to a newer phone without telling AT&T.

That was the store managers theory as well. They hadnt even unboxed the new SIMs yet, so i had to hang out for a bit to wait on it.
LTE worked for me with old sim i had from SGS4 , but ISIS complained that it's not secure sim ect. ISIS wont work with old sim, if you dont care for ISIS old sim should get you LTE if you had it before.
New sim did come with the my SGS5 phone when i preordered , droped that in called customer rep to provision it and was set.
ordered mine with Next program, and it shipped with a new sim. Ignored the new sim. popped my nano sim card in using an adapter and works well and I get LTE.
not true. i popped the same micro sim from my S3 into my S5 last night and it worked perfectly fine. LTE works and is just as fast. the only thing was the ISIS app was complaining that i needed to use the new sim to use the new features. I disabled ISIS completely and no more notifications.

I am also using my S3 sim in my S5 showing LTE and getting LTE speeds with no error messages. Not sure what ISIS is though.
Pretty sure the new gray sim card is built out of security to use ISIS ( an E- wallet that use money in your cellphone account, etc ).
When I switch from G2 to Note 3, the guy in AT&T store ask me to change the sim card.
The season is just to make sure ISIS is secure when you doing transaction using your phone

Well, that's exactly what I said to start with but the OP insisted a new SIM was needed for LTE.
Also using a SIM that is about 2 years old.
On top of that I was constantly (like 2-3 times a week) switching between an S4, Nexus 5, and an iphone 5 with out issues and got LTE on all of them.

Maybe im just a bad bad man trying to spread misinformation to the masses. J/K
I was simply sharing what had been determined by myself and a few at the AT&T store. If its wrong, i apologize. Like i stated we had tested with 2 other SIM cards, the old style and even after several reboots, we could never get it to switch from 4g to 4g LTE. Of course as its been mentioned here, i also find it odd that in the time we had other SIM cards in, i never saw an ISIS error. Maybe my phone is just jank.
No harm in the info just had that problem today with gf pro. She wanted to use isis to get the free 50 bones they are offering and she had to get the new Sim with secure in it.

That wasn't easy to follow, but if you are asking if you can switch back to an old sim card after ISIS is setup, the answer is no. The new sim with the secure element must be used for ISIS to function.

Since the Nexus 6 US version is the same across all carriers, couldn't someone from Verizon buy a phone at T-mobile off contract and use it on verizon with a pre-existing Verizon sim?

Why not? All signs point to T-Mobile selling the Nexus 6 without any kind of SIM lock, so you should be able to pop in a Verizon SIM in the Nexus 6 you get from T-Mobile and it will probably work.

People are saying that the T-mobile version IMEI's won't be on VZW's whitelist, but unlocked versions are.
However, no one really knows, it's an assumption based on past knowledge.

We had this debate in another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/cdma-carriers-buying-nexus-6-consider-t2922642
The consensus seems to be that Verizon only uses IMEI whitelists for device activation, and maybe for non-LTE devices. For LTE devices, it seems all the information that is needed to authenticate to both the CDMA and the LTE network are stored on the SIM card. So if you already have an activated SIM from Verizon, it should work on any SIM-unlocked Nexus 6.

ExCtly. People are getting confused because of the pamphlets that have to logos but they are google play review units. They were probably google units going to Tmobile that had those pamphlets and were used as review units. That DOESNT mean they came from Tmobile which is a different thing. Plus you also have to consider that the persons Verizon Sim car is already provisioned. The real test is activating new new service with a new sim card.

Yes, you guys have some valid points. I already have an activated sim and all I would need to do is pop mine in to a T-mobile phone to see if it works.
But speaking to the last post, it would be interesting to see if a new verizon sim would work with a t-mobile bought phone.
There are only 2 versions. ..... international and north American. .....not a t mobile sprint vzw etc they are the same
If that's the case, then everyone should flock T-mobile stores on Nov. 12th if they are buying off contract.

Well first. Good luck trying to get a Tmobile store to sell you the phone without having an account. I've heard that some might for a higher msrp price. Even then if Verizon doesn't have the imei in their database you can't get it activated there. Some have said if you pop in an existing nano Sim with existing service it will work but trying to activate new service with it on Verizon may be tricky, specially since Verizon hasn't said squat about release dates or if they will even have the device in stock.

This exactly.
Fact is if you want to use a Nexus 6 on VZW your best bet is to buy from Play Store, Amazon, Motorola Direct, Verizon upon release, etc but NOT from other carriers.
Also T-Mobile has confirmed that they will turn away anyone hoping to buy off contract at any of their stores on launch day. They want to give current customers and new service customers the first go at the device sale before expanding sales to a whole after the hype dies down on their customer end.
I was lucky enough to get an order in today on Motorola's site, but after watching the latest Droid-Life show I was left with a concern. Apparently we won't be able to use simultaneous voice and data. So say for example I'm on a call and want to look something up, unless I'm connected to a WiFi network I won't be able to do that. This is the case with the 2014 Moto X and the just released Droid Turbo. Those phones though are (according to Verizon) going to get an update before the years end to allow for VoLTE, which will fix this problem. The problem I see is that since this isn't a "Verizon" phone per say, how are we going to get that update? Are we going to be stuck not being able to use simultaneous voice and data? For once I thought we finally had a great Nexus phone on Verizon and now this news reminds me of why we haven't had a Nexus phone after the Galaxy Nexus.
I have been mainly using it with T-Mobile but have popped in a Verizon sim and got LTE service. Made a couple of calls, used the internet.
Reading various threads online it seems like as of now they're unable to activate the Nexus 6 directly because the phone is not in their system. Since There were so many people with questions regarding this topic, thought I'd share exactly how I got Verizon to make me a Nano sim.
1. Find a friend with a nano sim phone (in my case was a iPhone 6+)
2. Go to a Verizon store and tell them you're buying/borrowing your friend's phone and therefore need a new nano sim made
That was it for me. Didn't even have to pay a single cent
Why not just tell them u bought a new phone that uses a nano sim. What the hell do they care what it's going in.
Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
They won't activate the sim unless they have the phone that you're planning to activate it on with you in the store
I had the same issue with Verizon. I simply trimmed my regular Sim into a nano Sim. I used sharp scissors and sand paper to smooth the edges but amazon does sell a cutter.

Exactly. This isn't like other phones. The phone isn't in Verizon's system yet.
---------- Post added at 10:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:52 AM ----------
I cut my Note 3 SIM down to nano size and I ordered a nano SIM from Verizon. The cut down nano works great, but the SIM Verizon sent me doesn't work. I'll probably have to order an adapter and activate it in my Note 3 first and then stick it in my Nex6, but there isn't an incentive to do this drive I'm good to go with the cut down SIM.
Well I was at my local store in person yesterday asking about a SIM and was told that I just need to bring it in when I get it. The employee himself was surprised I was able to order one because he himself had been trying with no luck.

I see a lot of people advocating taking a SIM from an existing device, using another device's IMEI, swapping phones around, or even using the IMEI from a display model phone at a Verizon store. My question is this:
Since you're using a different IMEI to get the SIM and activate it, does the IMEI of that device stay attached to the account? That is, if I just take the SIM out of my M8 and put it in a Nexus 6, can I give or sell the M8 to someone else? I wouldn't think it could be activated, since Verizon will still have the IMEI attached to my account, even though I've swapped SIMs. Or will Verizon automatically record the new IMEI when I swap SIMs?

The only IMEI that will be attached to your account will be the phone that you have your sim card in. It would be fine to sell the M8 to someone else and it will not still be attached to your account.

The SIM is attached to your account. Who ever buys the m8 needs their own SIM. It only holds info about your account and device on the account.
I'm going to go to a third party vendor and get a nano SIM. Its free and I'll just activate it using my m7. Seems like the best thing to do for now.
I just called Verizon and they asked me a bunch of questions when all I wanted was a new sim. They are sending me a nano SIM card they said it's a nano nfc SIM. So I have the adapters to activate it on my m7.

Oops! I meant nano. I was just sharing my experience in case it might help someone. If they sent me a nano Sim for the "m8" wink wink, is it the NFC Sim?

Haha cool. Was just lookin out for ya, since I got my SIM by reading your post and this thread.
M8 only takes nano so as long as you said m8 you are good.

I am moving from a DNA to the Nexus 6. Will be trying to go to the store and see what they will do for me.
Hello all. Though we know the N6 works on VZW and units are beginning to ship out, I am reading reports (android police)VZW may not activate new nano Sim cards for active subscribers because it wasn't bought from VZW.
Specifically, a phone purchased directly from Motorola is presenting issues.
As more Motorola units ship, has anyone had a problem? My current phone uses a micro Sim. Sure, I could cut it but am afraid I might screw it up.
Please share your experiences.

If you can't get them to give you one, try one of these. I used one and it worked fine on previous phones.

Thanks I saw this on a droid life posting. True it is cheap but will only be used once and sit somewhere collecting dust. Lol. If I have to go that route then so be it.
I am more interested in hearing feedback on users experiences with a request of this type with VZW.

I cut my micro SIM down to nano size and it was phenomenally simple to do. Ironically, the cut down nano works great, but the nano that I ordered last week from Verizon doesn't work at all.

Yeah other than perhaps not getting the nano from VZW and if you do, that is an issue being reported.

I called Verizon support and said I ordered 2 new phones and need a new nano sim. They tried to get me to go to a store but I asked if they can ship me one and they are sending me 2, one for me and one for my wife no charge.

Be curious to see if they work when you get them based on earlier poster's response. I hope by the time when my unit arrives VZW will be over this ridiculous stunt. I did order that Sim cutter BTW: I can't even draw a straight line let alone cut one!

I wont be getting the phone till 12-9 from what it says on the Motorola site.
I went in 2 days ago. Asked about one and we talked for a few. He told me just come in next time and say i need a nano for my new Iphone i bought off a friend. They will deactivate my old sim and activate the new one. He said their is no charge for a sim. Just turn off your existing phone before walking in.

The new one needs to be a 4ff nano SIM and it does not work because it needs to be activated and provisioned on your account. You call the number and give them your old phone imei and they activate the SIM. Then place it in the n6.

I told them on the phone that I bought my wife a 2013 Moto X and that she needed a nano sim card for it and they sent it out right away.
When I received it, I used it as a template to cut down my wife's micro sim to a nano sim. It was easier that way.
My super duper cutter arrives today. When my phone arrives and if i screw up I can always get a new micro Sim and recut it instead of going through the VZW crap of trying to get a nano. The store is right down the street from me so not an issue.

I ordered an adaptor kit from Amazon so I could activate the nano-sim in my Galaxy Nexus, as well as switch back between devices in case of any accident/problem. Didn't have any trouble getting the nano-sim from Verizon.
Hi Jerry, I recently purchased a new device that requires a NANO 4G LTE SIM Card 4FF. My current device uses a micro-sim. Can you send me a new NANO sim to my billing address?
Not sure if it matters, but the line for the device is **********. It was purchased off contract.
Jerry: I can definitely send you a nano-SIM. We also have them for free at our corporate run stores, but if mail is easier, my pleasure.
Jerry: What make / model phone did you get?
mail would be easier for me. I ordered a Nexus 6 from Motorola
Jerry: alright, no problem, let me see here
It's the same sim card as the droid Turbo
Jerry: perfect, thanks
Jerry: bringing up an order form right now
awesome, thanks Jerry
Jerry: For sure. Free shipping is two-day FedEx, but would arrive Monday. Is that okay?
yes, that's perfect
Jerry: Great. Can I have a good address for Monday FedEx, no signature required.
[address]
Jerry: cool, thanks, doing some data entry
Jerry: All set for Nano 4G LTE SIM 4FF to arrive on Monday. Order number is ******** You'll get email at the email address on file regarding the order and tracking number. It's always our goal in our chat department to fully resolve your concerns and to provide you with excellent customer service. Have I done that today?
absolutely, thanks again
Jerry: My pleasure. Thank you for chatting with me today and being a valued Verizon customer. In the future, you can also find us on Twitter at @VZWSupport. You can click on the "End Chat" button to end this chat. Have a great day.

So I went to Verizon today to try and activate it and they told me that I needed to have a phone that used a nano sim to activate it, which means droid ultra, droid maxx, droid turbo, and the newest droid razr. No iPhone nano sims will work in it from what this rep told me. I have a friend with a droid ultra, so I'm gonna take him up to verizon and have them activate my sim in his phone and reboot it to fix the mm issues with my sim in it, and then move the sim over to the N6.
Big red is definitely not making this easy for us.

There is another thread on here as well as Droid Life saying it will work. I have an adapter so I can put it into my current Micro SD HTC one phone with adapter, activate it and then use the nano SIM in Nexus 6 according to the thread.
Edit::: I found out the iPhone 6 does not have NFC so Verizon is sending me a nano for the HTC m8 which will work. So, you are correct that technically an iPhone 6 won't work totally because of the NFC. Thanks for pointing that out!

All Sims are the same. Don't worry about it
I went into a Verizon retail location today (Village At Orange - 1500 E Village Way, Ste 2205 Orange, CA 92865) and they were worthless.
I explained to the representative what I needed and they told me they couldn't do it unless I activated it in store. I explained that would be a pain, but that I did have an adapter and was willing if need be. They said fine.
The representative then went over to a table with me and said that my device (Note 3) was not a nano sim device. I explained again that I had an adapter and he said there was nothing he could do. I asked if he could call someone and he told me he wouldn't. I then asked for the manager's card.
On my way home I called Verizon and they're sending a card out. It'll get here Monday. If my phone beats the sim I'll just trim my current one down. I'm disgusted at the service I received at the store. The representative acted like he couldn't care less. Really, really frustrating.
