*I truly wouldn't worry about bricking too much, as long as you have a recovery with a file browser installed, you can delete the offending bootanimation.zip and all *should* be fine and dandy (it *should* revert to the stock bootanimation)

Unfortunately, they are different aspect ratios (First Gen is approx 16:9, exactly 128:75, Second Gen 7 inch is exactly 16:10) so changing the desc.txt resolution will not work, I'd have to resize completely. Some I may, others (like the Nexus animation, which has over 100 frames) would take to long. On a normal Andriod ROM, changing the desc.txt would just lead to a warped image, on stock Kindle firmware I've never got it to work.

I kept searching for a BIOS boot screen for the Samsung Captivate, but could not find one. So I created my own. I took the energy star logo, format, and android end animation from frysee's Nexus post. So thanks frysee!

This is tweaked with most of the information from the Captivate (example: Hummingbird Processor and 512MB RAM).
I know there are multiple ways of installing this, but the way I do it is to save it to a location on your SD card and then use Root Explorer to copy it into your system-media folder. (back up your original bootanimation.zip first!)
I am not responsible for any damage you may do to your phone by using this, but it does work on my phone

Search. Remember seeing the one I linked to last week. It is nice to actually get a preview with this one though.
ACK! I swear I searched this forum for that! I think I have issues searching for some reason. Oh well. Man, that would have saved me a lot of time if I was able to find that, hehe.
Haha. Nice work anyway
Thanks. I think I will have to try to work on a modified boot image now.
Can anyone tell me what the name of the image is for the circled part? I can find every other image 'cept this one, it is drving me crazy!

Sure, it's the title_bar_portrait.9.png located in the framework-res.apk/res/drawable-mdpi or ...hdpi
This one threw me for a while
...also, even though it's a .9.png I find if I resize it to what I what it doesn't cause any issues or require any patching. I find 320 x 20 to be a good size. Just saves having to patch the .9.png each time if you happen to make changes to it a lot
Do you know if it just shows up in that pulldown-menu, or is it used in more places?
I would guess by the name of the file that it does show up in other places, but I have never seen any graphical issues when having changed it, but then again I have never dramatically changed it, so couldn't really say. Turn it pink and see

Yes, good idea. I might try it tomorrow.
Thanks, that was the one I was looking for!
Just fyi:
I took the time and made a pink version of that image.
It seems it's only used in the pulldown menu. Haven't noticed it anywhere else.
Thanks again!
anyone who knows horror movies should know what this is going to be:

the last image stays until boot:
note: it runs normally on the phone and the transparent part around the part where the head blows up is black
edit: it would probably help if i attached the file
Where's the file so i push this?
Thanks in advance!
i'm dumb. first post updated
awesome, testing now!
let me know how it works for you. i think tonight i'm going to do some sort of loading animation with the blood splatters
Pushed to /system/media and is working great!
The Android guy on the last screen is cut off just slightly but still looks gooooood
Prob due to my screen size, Hero200 (320 x 480)
here, try this. i changed the desc.txt to fit your screen size

Purrfect! Thanks man!
take 2
part 1
part 2
the animation doesn't run this fast on the phone. i can't seem to figure out how to control the speed of the .gifs
First of all, I do not take any credit in creating this boot animation.
It is the stock boot animation as seen at Google I/O 2012 release of Nexus 7 Tablet.
The boot animation is modified for our gTablet:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/18476770/gTablet/bootanimation.Nexus7.zip
To install it, just rename it to bootanimation.zip and copy to /system/media/ folder with RootExplorer or ES Explorer "root mode".
Hope you enjoy it.

This is amazing, but is there any way to make it portrait orientated for a phone?
I've been trying to get it to work on my S3, it says either sideway or not at all
Other than that though it works perfectly, thanks!

Here you go for a portrait mode:

This is the original I used to modify for the tablet.

Because i was faszinated by this .gif i made my own Boot Animation out of it

just exchange the original bootanimation.zip in system/media with this and set rw/r/r
It's only 720*1280 pixel but 25mb. 5FPS
Download Link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?atlqubjtfs7dszm
Download Link v2:
http://www.mediafire.com/?4ye9vepshfv27h1
Now it goes with 8 FPS instead of 5, and XPERIA stays for 3 Seconds.
Was the "Xperia" intentional?
Since it stayed there for such a short time it seemed it was not supposed to be there.
Did you perhaps open the original zip and edit it?
And yes, 720x1280 is the way to go...

Jep, Its still an Xperia phone so i let it inside... i just changed the time it stays from 60 to 0 .... guess that was too small^^ maybe 1-3 might be better. gonna redo it.
