Hello
So I am running stock, unencrypted, and can connect to WiFi perfectly at home but not at my work.
This issue has been since I first got the phone, so even fully stock and encrypted the issue was there. I am now running sensei kernel and the issue remains.
I work at a cellphone store so we regularly connect and disconnect to WiFi, and all other phones have no issues connecting or disconnecting.
On mine, it saves the network, says connecting, then goes back to saved.
Anyone else having this issue? Anyone able to fix it?
Haven't used a stock ROM yet, but replaced my modem to 5.0.1 modem too just to be safe, and didn't help.
wow

Do you use a case on phone?? Mine works perfectly so far on various networks. I am stock and still unrooted. Maybe a factory reset+

When I unencrypted, it involved user data wipe, so I figured that's the factory reset attempt. I have a lot of files on my phone so resetting often is a hassle for me right now, but I'm wondering if this is an issue worthy of a warranty exchange?

Even exchange means data and file loss so either way is going to cost you time and hassle.

Factory reset or phone? exchange will both cost you some data loss. What wifi service do they use at your work? Do you have the multi user option set up on your device?

I have a wiress router at home that i used with PDA2k. Surfing net over TKIP-PSK encrypted connection worked fine for many months.
One day, there was some problem connecting or it hung up (dont remember exactly), so i popped out battery and put it back in ... and since that day, i cannot make a TKIP-PSK connection with the phone to anything. If i set up router as OPEN point (no passwd), the f**king phone connects!
I did:
1. reset router
2. reflashed router.
3. Hard reset phone
4. Reflashed phone with WM2003 and older radio rom.
5. Reflashed WM05
6. Reflashed Wm2003 and latest radio rom
7. Tried different router.
No results!
I live in apartment building and cant leave my router in the open. Other encryption modes supported by PDA2k dont work either.
I DONT GET IT!!! HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT SH*T STOPPED WORKING? If some hardware chip died, WIFI wouldnt work at all! But it works for non-encrypted connections!!
Unbelievable sad story. Everything points for some hv failure, but I just don't believe it. Try some more routers.
Try reflashing to older radio ROM. It may help.......

The crypto stuff is done on-board the wifi IIRC, so that's possible.
I once heard of people having problems on the phone when using the keyboard for the encyption key. The recommendation was to use the on-screen keyboard to ensure the key is entered correctly. Might be worth a try, but try it with the most basic encryption settings i.e. wep to keep things simple. Make sure you disable EAP in the phone settings.
The problem could be within the storage space within the Wifi hardware. It has it's own registers for the actual settings. If some were in nvram that maintained it's state, then corruption to these would be bad.
A last resort might be to take of the battery for a few days to completely drain the backup battery. If there are any volatile storage areas maintained by this that are not cleared during a hard reset, then a complete power down will reset them. One of the problems with this phone is that you cannot fully switch it off.
Take the last two paragraphs with a pinch of salt; I've never looked into the hardware on these phones in any great detail, so it's all guesswork.
ok , i'll try a full powerdown.
i have windows 2005.
just to confirm : i will only lose the RAMdisk with temp files? the rest of the stuff is in the flash?
Yes, that's correct.
well, i finally got around to draining the backup battery.
any kind of encryption/password authentication over WIFI no longer works.
time to buy a new pda phone.

I'm in the same boat with my SX66, the SD slot no longer appears to recognized memory (pny or sandisk). I re-flashed the ROM to factory default and still doesn't recognize memory modules.
How do you drain the backup battery? I haven't done this yet...

Did you ever try it with another router at all? Might be worth trying as I didn't notice you mentioning it.

See above;P
Had the same problem with my set(wm5). Did not know why, could not log into my wep network. After hardreset , and leaving the phone alone for 10 mins, it was functional again . Thought i just voice out .
I've purchased a Milestone X720 for my wife, but I found the internal WiFi to work erratically at best.
It seems like it has no problem connecting to Google.com webpage (also it can sync mails and contacts), but when trying to access any other webpages (bbc.co.uk, espn.com, etc.) using the browser, it's always timing out. I know it's not a problem with my WiFi / internal network / router /internet connection, because I can navigate just fine using my HTC Desire or home laptops.
It worked for a while yesterday afternoon, then this morning wasn't able to connect to any website.
The wifi connection is using DHCP, and it shows a correct internal IP address and an excellent signal level. I don't think there's much more things I can tweak in the phone configuration, or isn't there?
Maybe it is a defective phone? Did someone experienced something like this? Should I return it and exchange it for a new one?
I'd appreciate any help.
Alex.
Actually, I've been having problems with my wifi. My wifi will stop working on any webpage at seemingly random intervals (I used to think it was when it went into sleep, but it happens when it's not in sleep now also). Eventually after restarting wifi so many times it'll glitch up and I have to restart the phone.
Providing your phone's stock (as in you haven't rooted it or the like) I'd recommend going to your carrier about the problem.
EDIT: I just checked through the posts on this board and some guy was having another problem with his wifi (different from both of ours though), he suggested getting WifiPowerSavingOff off the market, I'll try it and tell you if it fixes my problem. The only problem is it requires root access, I don't even know if it will fix your problem so you're better off sending the phone back (especially since rooting voids your warrenty). One other thing you could try is just a factory reset, it sounds like a software problem so that might work wonders, you might have to reactivate your phone afterwards though.
Well, thank you for your response.
WiFi was working OK when I came back from work, but is not working now.
The phone is unbranded unlocked, so I'll probably have to talk to the seller.
I tried to see if there was an update from Motorola, but every time I go to the System Updates it says that it is unable to connect to the server, so there's probably no available update for this phone yet.

If it's unlocked OTA updates (updating through the settings) are probably disabled, because installing OTA updates will make you lose root (I'm assuming your phone also is rooted if it was unlocked by the seller). do you know what baseband your using right now? Also, have you installed rom manager or anything that can make nandroid backups?
I might be wrong, but I don't think it's rooted, I think it's just the way it's sold, SIM free and unlocked from factory, not by the seller.
Baseband is 3GSMEPU91A_U_91.07.56I
Well if you wanna double check, just look to see if a superuser permissions app is installed (if you don't find one it's not rooted), I never knew they sold them unlocked (although I'm in the US... so I doubt they do here). All I can say is to try a factory reset then, if that doesn't work then talk to the seller. It sounds like more of a software problem since Google works.
In the end it seems there is some kind of incompatibility between the phone and my WiFi router (a Belkin G). Yesterday I managed to borrow another WiFi router (Netgear) and it works flawlessly when connected to this AP.
I will keep testing during the weekend but I'm pretty sure this was the cause.
Thanks Shiny for your help.
Hi. I picked up a milestone via Ebay two days ago and had similar wi-fi issues. After reading a number of forums I discovered that the problem lay with my router - Siemans Gigaset SE587 (Tiscali). The wireless channel or regulatory domain was set to auto channel 1. I think this confuses the phone so with the help of the router manual I disabled auto and reset it to channel 13.
Wi-fi works flawlessly now and it hasn't affected my other devices. The link below might help.
Anyone having an issue with the WiFi turning itself off then back on about 30 seconds later??? none of my other wireless devices (laptop, 2 iPhones) are experiencing the issue....
Netgear WGR614v9 router
secured with WPA/WPA2 PSK

I had just got ATT Uverse and never had this problem before. The guy who set it up put the main box right next to my TV which I knew was going to be a problem. None of my computers or my laptop would disconnect, just my phone. I moved the box away from TV and now I never have any problems. Try to look around your router, if you have it next to anything electronic, move it. If that doesn't help go into your router (if you don't know how look it up on google) and change the channel to a different one. Sometimes there are things that will interrupt wifi ln certain channels. I think our phone (not sure about others) is very sensitive to picking up a signal and doesn't handle interference well. Not sure if it will help but, it did wonders for me.

Oh wow, yeah that's much different than what I had going on. Well lets treat this like pc troubleshooting. Have you recently installed any apps? Any roms? Anything you can think of that might have changed, settings in an app or widget. Maybe make a nandroid back up, I would also do a full system app/data backup in titanium then wipe data in cwm (factory reset) and dalvik cache see if that helps if not try flashing your rom again. If it does help, you can restore apps with titanium. If you worry about sms you can back those up with a program from market called sms backup and restore of all things. There is one that will backup sms contacts and call history I think also and both are free just do a search. Basically back up everything you are wanting to restore before doing anything.

Resolved, flashed back to the Factory-Rooted Rom, works great now!
Anyone else had this problem?
I try to use the Eduroam wifi, which has a rather complicated set-up (PEAP, MSCHAPv2, identity and password). I put my details in, and sometimes it connects... and sometimes it fails to connect and then, when I look back at the details, it's changed the EAP method to AKA or TTLS, or fogotten my password.
This has happened 10+ times now -- I'm not just being daft.
There are apps to set up Eduroam for you, since it is a bit of a fiddle, and I can use one of those -- but I still have to keep entering institution, username and password -- and anyway, this is silly, it's just a few wifi details, the phone ought to be able to store them. My Defy didn't have a problem with it
I'm on stock UK Jelly Bean -- is this known to throw away saved details? (I think it also happened with ICS but not quite so sure as I upgraded shortly after getting the phone).

Remove your sim card, go through the config changes but first forget all your settings. After a reboot when your complete put your sim back in. Seems to have helped some of us out with this issue.
Brill. Working so far.... will report back as solved if this continues.

I had the same problem on ICS but was fixed with the JB update
Hi,
I have a Note 5 [MODEL SM-N920C], my problem started after updating to Marshmallow. It started with my Bluetooth headset intermittently disconnect from the Note 5 and then noticed that I am connected to a wifi but cannot browse or do anything that needs internet connection.
I tried to research an saw a mention of turning off the Bluetooth to get the WiFi working and it did work. Now the problem is I am stuck with the option of having only 1 (WiFi or Bluetooth) being on as the issue comes back when I use them at the same time.
I tried to reset all network settings to no avail.
Hope someone can help me with my issue.
I did a factory data reset and it work for some time and the problem is now back, :crying:
Is there a way to roll back to Lollipop without tripping Knox?

Hi,
Thank you for the reply, I am also thinking that it might be software related. I am tempted now to do a factory reset and install back the apps that I have 1 by 1 to see which is causing the issue. I might probably try not install anything first to see if it works Ok (probably for 2 to 3 days) then do the 1 by 1 installation of the apps.
