Can't copy files to SD card through USB - Samsung Gear VR

I'm trying to copy over files from my Windows computer to my Note 4 so I can quickly view things through the Gear VR. I have USB debugging turned on and it connects to my computer in camera mode. When I navigate to my SD card and open up the Oculus folder I see all the folders (360Photos, 360Videos, etc) however if I open any folder they all say 0 items and are blank and it won't let me copy files into any of these folders. Anybody know what is going on here?
Thanks.

I think mass storage feature was removed from android long time ago. If you use external drive and otg cable you can copy files from drive to memory card using Note's built in file manager (my files)

The way i have to do it is -
Copy files from PC to internal SD using EX file explorer or windows, then i use the file explorer that came pre installed to move the files to the ExtSD

My steps are little different. Im using one of those sandisk memory sticks with usb connector on one side and micro usb on the other. Copy files from pc to memory stick and plug in memory stick to phone and transfer files using My Files app. I know it is extra step but allow me to have few movies on stick and load them when needed

I personally downloaded one of many apps that enable sd card writes. I believe you need root though. Now, I just copy with a usb to the computer. No need to take out the sd card. Make sure you download the Note 4 usb drivers for your os. Also, make sure your sd card is exFAT so you can copy files larger than 4gb. I have many 10+ gig 3D video / movie files I play with the Gear VR. The only issue is sound on some of them as it won't play. What I do is play the file on my computer and on the Gear VR at the same time. Good luck!

For the sound you need re-encode the file to mp4 with mp3 sound because wont play ac3 or aac encoded sound

[Q] Camera recording not playing in Windows7

I'm running a custom rom (Ultimate) and the video recordings I make seem to be corrupt. I can't play them on any of my windows machines (I can play virtually every other file out there). I can't upload them to youtube , it bombs out. Any ideas what I'm can do to fix this?
Is there another camera app that I can get that would fix this?

Will they play in vlc? If so get super and convert em

Tried it, but Super C couldn't even play/convert them.
Found my workaround/solution: Copying the file to the external sd card and then putting that in my cardreader on the computers DOES NOT WORK. Actually copying the file from the internal to external SD card corrupts it on the phone BUT NOT RIGHT AWAY?!?! Meaning I can move the file to external sd and play it in video player. I put the phone on the charger, went to sleep and this morning it said file corrupt from the same player - I'm using root explorer to do all my copy/paste and it is the latest and greatest. My external SDcard has very few writes/rewrites and has not given me any other issues.
So, to copy to my desktop computer, I have to use the USB file transfer method, which works fine - just seems slower.
Will
Also another workaround is to save the video straight to the external sd card... It seems to work (for now)

[Q] How to add music and movies

First let me apologize, I have searched but could not find the answer. I am an utter noob. I just put cm7 using an SD card on my Nook Color. I was only able to do this by following the step by step instructions and youtube videos.
How do I add file to my Nook Color? I have some movies, music, and other files I would like to put on. I am technically very UNsavvy, so please hold my hand and do not assume I have any idea what to do.
Thank you in advance.
Or could you just provide a link to where I can find the info
connect your sd card to computer and drag and drop the files you want from computer to sd card
Im no dev, but this is what I do to get music, videos, pics and side load apps on my nook. first you'll need a file manager, I like Astro or Root Explorer both have free version at the market.
For music, videos and pics, its vary easy to put on your nook. all you have to do is to mount your nook's sd card from your pc with your USB cable. now on your sd card just make a new folder and name it "music" and just copy your music to this folder and thats it. for videos, and pictures its the same, just make a new folder and name it video and so on. now go to your video player and it should be available to you. the player that i like is call double twist its great for music and videos. now to side load apps all you have to do is to copy or download your apk to your sdcard and by using astro just navigate to the apk and press down on it, the file manager will launch and ask if you'll like to install it say yes and your done. I hope this is helpful.

I see what you did there. Thank you.
1. install SD card in Nook
2. Format SD card in Nook
3. Eject SD card from Nook and remove it.
4. Put SD in PC reader or whatever to mount on PC
5. Copy content to appropriate folders on the SD.
6. Eject SD from PC
7. Install SD in Nook.
8. If in doubt, reboot the Nook.
That's about as simple as I can describe the simplest and least technical method.
Most simple...
1. Plug your Nook USB cable into your computer.
2. On your computer, a Window should pop up that says a couple different things, you want to open folder or browse files, something along those lines.
3. This will open a file explorer, where you will see all of the folders on your nook. On a blank part of that screen, right click with your mouse and click New - then click Folder.
4. Name this folder music.
5. Open up My Computer (assuming you have Windows) in a separate window.
6. Drag any music files you want to put onto your Nook into the folder you created on your Nook.
7. On the bottom corner of your screen, there should be some kind of icon saying that your USB driver is connected. Click than and hit safely remove.
8. For videos do the same.
9. Unplug your Nook from the computer
10. Go to the Market from your nook and download a music player if you don't already have one installed.
11. Jam hard

Just Plug Nook into PC while it's on. In Notification Bar it Should say "USB Connected" Tap that and then hit the Mount Button.

I hope you have enough information now to get your music, video and pics to your nook. just a side note. as I mention earlier that I prefer double twist as my main media player, I forgot to mention air sync. its super cool and easy to use, it's very handy. you may want to check it out. but then again with all of these music and media clouds coming out.....

transfer movies, pdf, pics from pc to cm7 sd using card reader

How can I transfer movies, pdf, pics from pc to cm7 sd using card reader. My nc is not appearing in my pc so Il just use a card reader for the meantime.
The Problem is that the CM7 card has 4 partitions but Windows only sees the first partition. The simplest way around this is to download a Linux OS like Ubuntu and burn it to a CD/DVD or USB drive, or run Linux in a VM and link the card reader to the VM. Linux OSs will see all 4 partitions and let you easily copy files onto the 4th partition(the one that gets all the extra space).
Alternatively you can boot you're Nook into CM7 and then plug it's USB cable into your PC. A notification saying "USB Connected" will appear on the Nook, clicking on it will allow you to put your Nook into USB Mass Storage mode. Hence allowing you to copy files over to your card.
I personally use Ubuntu as my default OS so this is never a problem for me.

Another option is to use ADB Wireless and push the files to the /sdcard partition
You might try this too!
Another option... I really love using the highly rated "Wifi File Explorer Pro" It costs $1.62, but well worth it. I just bookmark the wifi address on my PC, open the app, and then move the TV, Movie, ebook, etc. files onto and off my modified Nook Color. No fussing with getting a grasp on that tiny micro drive! One of the most loved apps on my NC.
update: less than a dollar now. I am too new to post a link but all you need to do is search for wifi file explorer pro and you'll get to it easily enough if your are interested!

I use Samba and transfer files wirelessly. Install Samba on the NC and the SD card appears as a shared resourse on the Windows network, easy-peasy.

If you're going that route I'd recommend "File Expert" instead as it is free, well made, and has many more options including HTTP, FTP, and SMB. It also serves as a Root File Explorer if you enable Root in it's settings.

SD card putting all music into LOST.DIR

AOKP w/ Devil kernel
I have same problem as these others and can't find can't find solution for this:
"So I've tried everything to get music to stay on my "external" SD card (32gb Micro SDHC class 6, by Kingston). I say
STAY because its syncs fine. But as soon as I try to unconnected it ( I've just yanked it, ejected the drive from
windows then pulled it, ejected it then shut off the phone and pulled it then turned it back on, etc...) it moves 90%
of the files from the music folder to lost.dir. I've done just about everything i can think, heres a list (sorry if some of them seem silly)
unmount SD card, remove from phone, plug into computer, load songs, re-mount = all files in LOST.dir
Sync "USB Mass Storage" Using
Windows Media
VCast media Maneger = all files in LOST.dir
Motorola "motocast USB"
WinAmp
Drag and Drop to folder
sync with the "windows Media Sync" mode not "USB Mass Storage"
Windows Media
VCast media Maneger
Motorola "motocast USB" = all files in LOST.dir
WinAmp
Sync to internal memory and move files to external. = All file in LOST.dir
Now here's where it gets strange, I've done this with 2 different SD cards, (both 32gb one a class 6, one a class 10)
and the same thing happens. I've use both of these cards on 2 different phones (talked to Verizon and they just sent
me a new phone) and the same thing happens. What the heck is going on?"
and this guy:
I'm having issues with music on an external sd card, can anyone advise?
I mounted a 32Gb sd card in Samsung Galaxy 1. I then copied music into music folder on card.
This has been done using Kies and several other times using a usb card holder and Win Explorer - all with same
results...
When I turn on phone, the external media scanner runs ok. I go to music and it only shows approx 16 cds of music. The
remainder seem to be "dumped" into media folder without structure,or alternatively get dumped into the Lost.dir.
Its almost like there's a limit on the size of the memory space allocated to the music folder.
I have used other apps to rescan media. I have also reformatted the cards to ensure no hidden files or attributes.
Also tried this with another new 4Gb card with same issue.
I just got a new Ainol 7 Advanced 7 inch Android tablet (which is pretty cool for cost v's performance).
Unfortunately, this has the same issues as the Samsung.
Obviously, this is due to the same "features" of the Android O/S and its memory mgt of external cards."
I'm using a 16gig card myself and the same thing is happening. Even if I transfer files over wifi and rescan media.
Someone said "I could be mistaken, but I think you may be right about the memory limit in file allocation on that device. I know it's true of some versions of the Android Operating System. The OS wants more storage area for system activity than
or media. Some users solve that issue by rooting their device and manipulating those parameters"
also said "In Unix the lost & found directory is for orphaned files and/or directories. They become orphaned due the OS no longer having the correct pointers to those files.
and "Some tweaks such as sdcard speed tweak and other sdcard related tweaks in init.d folder is causing this problem... Try to boot your phone without them and see if it works"
So I removed what I think was a speed tweak from the init.d folder and rebooted...same thing.
There seems to be from what I've seen, a 1.8 or 2gig limit on media files on the external SD. Everything works great until you add past 2gig, then the rest goes to LOST.DIR. So I tried something, format the SD and copied over 5gig of PDF files, I got the same thing only it seemed the limit was now 3.8gig. So does anyone know how to get around these limits?

Can't transfer music onto SD card

I have tried both Media Transfer Mode and Mass Storage Mode, Media Transfer Mode results in errors while Mass Storage Mode first appears to work, I can find all the files I've transferred and play them on the computer from the phone but as soon as I disconnect from the computer they disappear from the card. WTF?
Try with a card reader?
Or you could transfer to the built-in storage and then move to SD using Fail Commander.
Does the microSD card work ok in other devices? I've just tried transferring from PC to phone in MTP mode and the files turn up straight away on my Z3C. This is with a 64GB Scandisk card.
I will check with a card reader, I hope it's the sd card being faulty and not the phone.

The easy way for me to access the SD card without making things difficult is to change the USB connection mode on your Sony Xperia Z3 compact over to Mass Storage mode (MSC). Here is how to get to this setting:
Settings > Xperia Connectivity > USB Connectivity > USB connection mode > select Mass storage mode (MSC)
No special drivers needed on the computer for it to recognize and read/write the micro SD card inside of your phone when plugged in via micro USB.
You will no be able to access your internal storage with this setting, but you can transfer files over via File Commander if needed.

I have the same issue. With the full size Z3.
Really annoying.
I've had SD cards that read fine on a computer but not in my mobile devices. Even between devices (super annoying) so I would try a different card if you have one around.

Hi, I've been using the Wifi-File Explorer app ever since. Still works fine on the Z3C.
Hello, simply use the third-party program to move music to SD card such as iTools, Apowersoft Phone Manager, etc., i guess it will work for you.
Similiar with me
Hi,
I have a Z3C with latest available Android (6.0.1 no root).
Yesterday, I have copied lots of music files to my sd card (sandisk 64GB, class 10). Haven't used the media mode, just attached the phone directly to the pc with usb cable, and selected to mount the sd card only to my pc.
After I have copied the files, and pulled the phone off of the computer, the files aren't showing up on my phone, not even with root explorer.
Can anyone help me what could happen with my phone? Should I just try this again in media transfer mode?
Thanks
Kind of similar problem!
I 've been transfering music to my SD through wifi connection ( using different apps through the years - "portal" at the moment ) without any problem.
Havent really noticed when maybe after upgrading to official marshmallow ( OTA ), what happens is that most of the newly transfered music is just displayed on ES File Explorer, but not on the music library ( same happens with 4 different music apps ) and can't be reproduced. The music that was there before is displayed and allowed to be played normally, but the newly added in order to be added and played through the music library, i have to :
1) eject the sd card
2) mount the sd card
3) clear es file explorer and music app from the recent apps
4) open es file explorer
5) play the specific newly added track though es file explorer player
6) open the track with the music app by clicking it through the es explorer
any thoughts / advice ?

Do you have an app that stops the media scanner from working?
I had the same problem that files on my SD card weren't being picked up by the Sony Music app.
Try settings/apps/show system apps, find Media Storage, Force Stop, Clear cache, Clear data, restart phone, wait five minutes.
This Media rescan app is very helpful and even gives you a shortcut to the Media Scanner properties so you can perform the above task.

aaah! I' m so stupid I was searching for such an option but I missed it. It's been a long time since my first android phones ( pre-Lollipop years ) that i had to dig into settings try find and fix things when root and custom roms were a necessity and every tiny little detail might have alter your android experience a lot.
thanx for the feedback! I already installed "media re.scan" and i am going to look deeper into it a bit later as at the moment i have my music library up to speed.
