Hi All,
I have a T-mobile tab with an HDMI dock and I have been using it as my media center ever since the motherboard to my HTPC has crapped out. I'm currently running overcome 1.4.2 with UC/OC kernel. My tab works fine with the dock and by that I mean playing movies or streaming from the internet from apps such as "TV shows stream". However when I activate bluetooth it disrupts my viewing anywhere from 8 to 15 minutes whereby causing the video that I was watching to restart. This has happened on my previous Roto rom as well. Again, once I deactivate bluetooth, it works fine. I'm using a logitech PS3 bluetooth keyboard to surf from my couch. Even without the keyboard connected to the tab this problem still occurs. So something with the bluetooth is causing these weird restarts of my media.
Does anyone else having this problem? It is really annoying. Perhaps modifying the bluetooth script or something to that effect is needed. Any ideas anyone? Otherwise I love my tab and even more so with the use of the dock.
Are you using wifi or 3g data when you are in the cradle?

I'm on wifi. Never tried it with 3g.
Okay...so here's some more info. If I keep the logitech ps3 mediaboard keyboard active by moving the mouse or pressing the spacebar every 6 to 10 minutes or so the media continues to play. So it seems that when the keyboard goes into power save mode and disconnects it causes the media...ie: movie, show, or flash video to restart or exit. Does anyone else with an HDMI dock experience this problem? Videos play fine without interruption so long as bluetooth is disabled.
For those of you who aren't experiencing this issue, what brand/type of bluetooth keyboard are you using?
Okay, well it looks like I'm chatting with myself but oh well. Here's another update. Even with keeping the keyboard active through clicks or mouse movements streaming media will still restart after a given time. Usually around 10 minutes or so. Keep in mind that I have now found that it seems to only affect streaming media. Media that's on the tab plays fine with the only interruption being a brief image flicker when the bluetooth keyboard goes to power save mode. I would also like to reiterate that leaving bluetooth active on the tab does not cause any problem, streaming or not. The issues I experience only happen when the logitech mediaboard is on.
I'm hoping that the issue here is with the keyboard alone and not with tab's bluetooth program. To test out this theory I went ahead and purchased another bluetooth keyboard. I found a logitech dinovo mini on ebay for $62 with free shipping. If nothing else, the form factor of the dinovo mini is pretty cool and it has good reviews. Wish me luck with this new keyboard. I'll give an update when I receive and test out the device.
I use the apple mini keyboard, but not tge cradle. I might try it tomorrow. Good luck with the new one.
I got my Dinovo Mini in the mail this morning. It works flawlessly. No more restarts on my media!!! Very nice compact little unit. The only thing it is missing as far as the tab is concerned is a home button. Other than that, a purchase well worth the $62 bucks IMO.
P.S. --> If anyone knows what combo buttons you have to press to simulate a home button please let me know.
HDMI - Flickers
Muh
I have also problems with the Media-Dock and HDMI on my Flatsceen TV.
I'm currently using PDA: JMK.
(Firmware 2.2 / Kernel: 2.6.32.9 / Build: FROYO.XWJMK)
The Error:
The Handshake betwen the Galaxy Tab and the TV looks like it works well. After a couple of seconds I get a perfect picture with Sound. But after 5 seconds the picture disapers. 2 Seconds later it comes back for 1 second, and disapears again. The picture the starts to flicker ... comes, goes, comes, goes ... sometimes I see then snow for a second, then comes the picture back and disapears again ...
What I think what could be the Problem:
I think it could be a problem with HDCP.
What I tested:
I connected the Galaxy Tab with the same cable to a PC-Screen. Perfect picture, no problems!
About the TV:
I tried all HDMI-Ins. Including the one that is special for connecting a PC to the TV. I have no problems with my T-Online Media Resiver (Entertain) connected to my TV over HDMI. And I'm shure that HDCP is used with the T-Online Media Resiver.
Does any one have an Idea how to fix the Problem?
Greetings,
Heavy
I had an issue with the picture going in and out as well. For me the problem was I was low on charge and I had the dock powered by a non stock charger which only trickle charged at most so the picture would keep cutting out every time it told that I was low on battery. This doesnt come up until you get around 10% remaining. That was solved by using the stock charger. The only other time I had an issue is when the tab is not secure in the cradle which was remedied by disconnecting it and then re-inserting it back into the dock.
Hope that helps.

Sorry for posting this in this thread.
But, it would interest me if the HDMI-Dock really needs a USB-power-cable plugged into it to work?
Muh
Yes, the dock needs power to use the HDMI out . . .
My problem for shure does not be casted by power problems. Im getting more and more shure that I have a compatibility problem betwen the Tab and the Toshiba TV.
I will now search in HiFi forums for a fix, and inform you when I figured out something. May be a older firmware could fix it to . . .
Greetings,
Heavy

i cant understand why it needs a usb power cable for hdmi out?
is this really needed technically for it to work?
or is it just, idk to pester us?
because ipad also just has a hdmi adapter thing, where the usb cable is only optional.

I dont know, but without power you will not get any signal . . . I think the dock needs the power . . .
And i can not find any help for my problem in the web. It looks like i am the only one who has this problem.
But I figured out now that the tab is using 1024i as resolution . . . Does any one know if there is a way to switch the output resolutin of the hdmi?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
no the tab upscales to 1080p.
there are sometimes problems with tvs that arent fullhd. it has to be fulllhd and not hdready or something inbetween, otherwise there might be problems.
The dock needs a power cube to work. Without one it won't function. However you can use a non stock power supply but you'll end up running down the power, albeit more slowly. Why this is a necessity I'm not sure. I think for the majority of the time you would want to otherwise it will run down the juice pretty quickly since the screen stays on while outputting to the TV.
It is best to have a TV that is full 1080p. My 6 yr old TV is only 1080i but it still works. Others may have varying results.
It would be nice to have a standalone HDMI cable similar to the AV cable but I haven't seen anything like that yet.

In other teste of the docking i did also read 1024i, and thats exactly as what it has been identified by mx tv. My tv can do 1080d, that can not be the problem . . .
May be you can double check as what you tv identifies the signal?
Do you think it coulf be a idea to try an older firmware? Any known changes in the hdmi out in the firmware versions?

Ok, i know now where my problem comes from . . .
The tab realy sends 1080p, but my tv can only do 1080i. :O
Any chance to set the tab to a lower resolution for the hdmi out?
When i connect the tab to a hdmi - vga converter i will lose Audio? Right?

I've purchased a sony w950a led 3d that has the one touch screen mirroring support. I'm unable to get it to work with the one. Neither does the one touch screen mirroring work.. And neither does screen mirroring through wifi direct works. I have tried the easy Nfc connect app by Sony but it says Device information not read.
I have also tried using the media output option in settings as well.
How should I get it to work?
(by screen mirroring I don't just mean the videos and pictures through dlna and stuff)

Hi, I have KDL42W653 and I was not able to make my HTC One miracast as well. Maybe 4.3 update will make this work, as 4.3 has miracast built in and current 4.2 android on HTC one may have some kind of HTC's support implemented.
Hi,
I noticed that when using Screen Mirroring from my Tab S2 to any of my Samsung TVs, the picture on the TV is about 3/4 the size. However, when using any of my phones (Galaxy S5, S6 Edge), it shows up fullscreen on the TV and takes up the entire TV screen size.
Does anyone know how to set the Tab S2 to do fullscreen when using Screen Mirroring, similar to the Samsung Galaxy phones? Thanks!
Sounds like your problem is a matter of aspect ratio. Your TV is 16:9 ratio, as is your S5 & S6 afaik. The Tab S2 is 4:3. Its kind of like trying to fit a square peg into a rectangular hole.
Thanks for your reply. Since I can't find out how to adjust the Tab S2 to 16:9, I adjusted my TV to 4:3, but still have the same problem. Lookso like this is a Samsung design flaw? That sucks, I was hoping to screen mirroring and enjoy movies on the TV from the tablet
Not a design flaw the way you mean it. Your S2 is physically a different shape then your TV (L x W pixel ratio). Specifically, the screen on the S2 is a shorter rectangle. Thus, casting the screen to your TV means it won't use the whole TV screen. Setting the TV to 4:3 would be redundant. There might be a way to make the TV stretch the image to 16:9 but it would look stretched, not right. Now, there might be a way to play a 16:9 video (1920/1080p) on your S2 (which on your S2 would show top and bottom black bars) and cast that to your TV in a way that uses the whole TV screen correctly, but I can't instruct how yet. Still playing with mine.
Glad to know that screen mirroring works... may i ask which versions are you guys using... 9.7 inch or 8 inch... and what OS version please? Modified OS?
Thanks.
The reason i asked and glad to know that Mirroring works on our Tab S2 is... i read from one of the review comments from GSM Arena that it does not work.
...
I have the same problem. I was thinking the aspect ratio might be the problem as well. However, when you DL a video or movie onto your tablet and play it, it uses the full screen, no problem.
This is not an aspect ratio problem
I have the same problem. When I set a streamed video on my S2 to full screen, the mirrored image on the TV has a black band all around it--top, bottom and both sides-- and is only about 3/4 of the TV screen size. The menu items on the TV that allow you to zoom or stretch an image are all disabled when the TV is in mirror mode. I can't find any settings on the S2 that allow you to modify the image that is being mirrored to the TV.
At the same time, a Galaxy phone can mirror a full-sized streamed video to the TV with no problem.
This is frustrating and potentially bad for the TV (elsewhere, the manual warns not to watch TV in 4:3 mode because the black stripes will "burn in").
Does anyone have a suggestion for how to address this?

Use a different device to screen mirror. As stated before, since the tab s2 is in 4:3 ratio, there is no way to force 16:9 via screen mirroring.
If you have the content on your device(not streaming), then your best bet is to use a DLNA app and send it that way.

I understand that the aspect ratio is different. I don't expect the image to reach out to all the edges. That is not the issue.

Give "SecondScreen" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farmerbb.secondscreen.free a try. It's a bit flaky though.
But, when it works, it does work.

From what i can read, he's sayign that he has black borders all four sides.
Surely even "aspect ratio" displaying should fill the image to top and bottom and let the sides go to the borders.
A wide screen TV would show a 4:3 image as top to bottom full with black bars left and right where the 4:3 didn't fit the 16:10
I'll take a guess and say it's a setting on his TV not right - maybe a zoom or auto-aspect not set, "wide", "full", etc.. (My Sony 55" used to do it with 4:3 old-style TV from video until i found the expansion setting.
Can i ask...
What device can you recommend for a non-Smart TV (2008 Sony 55") for receiving from the Galaxy S2 tablet?
I bought a "Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter" becasue i was told it;d work... but it doesn't.
There's nothing on the Galaxy Tab S2 to "cast" or "connect to" or whatever... it just doesn't see the MWDA.

Thanks for that - I was looking at the chromecast. £30 is a bit high though...
I found out why the microshaft one won;t work - it needs a firmware update before the Samsung Galaxy will "cast" to it.
BUT you need to be able to connect to it to do the firmware! - so i can't connect until i update the fW and I can't update the FW until i connect to it.
F**k Microsoft!!

You don't have a laptop or desktop running Windows that you can use to cast to it? I doesn't have to be the tablet to update the firmware.
Laptop, yes, but it's win 7 and 2012 date, no wifi direct (the intel drivers won;t install)
I;d need to buy a new lappy to get this updated! *grin* typical microshaft!
Out of interest:
What about casting/mirroring to an amazon firetv stick (it's cheaper than the chromecast and has more useful features)?
Hey Guys,
I've been using a 256GB Exynos Note 8 as my first ever Samsung Smartphone for almost a year now, and I've been really loving the extremely versatile featureset it packs. It has hands down been the most useful Smartphone I've ever had after over half a decade of jailbroken iPhones and just switching to Android on a OnePlus One back in 2014. So much so, I've literally been using it as a Pocket PC for most of my computing needs, relying less and less on my Surface Pro 2.
However, there has been one pet peve that just keeps getting in the way of me enjoying my Note 8 to the fullest; whenever I try to miracast Netflix running on my Note 8 to my Microsoft Wireless Display Adaptor connected to a big screen (be it in my living room, bed room, or a hotel room), I only get audio and subtitles, no video Everything else -- including presentations, games and YouTube -- stream smoothly and very reliably from my Note 8 to whatever big screen I want, way better than even my Surface Pro 2 (1st party hardware). However, I just can't get Netflix to stream over miracast from my Note 8. Oddly enough, it works from my Surface Pro 2 with the latest Netflix app from the Microsoft Store.
Any genius out there have some suggestions on how to get Netflix working over miracast? I don't want them chromecast as they require their own internet connection instead of simply functioning via WiFi direct. Thanks in advance.
Try loading Netflix, then only starting the miracast?
Are you plugging this adapter into a TV at a hotel etc? Or is it your home TV?
The casting is something Samsung needs to fix its quite fiddly. If I'm casting to a TV I use Smart Things.
I think you should be running the app you're trying to cast from first. Then when you click the option it should recognise your MWDA.
I used to use my Surface Tablet to cast Netflix and it was a nuisance, so I gave up and plugged it directly into the TV and used a Bluetooth mouse.

Sorry for the very late feedback, for some reason never saw a notification in the XDA Labs app despite responses to my thread.
I just attempted this but all it does is still show a black screen with audio over Miracast, while the video appears on my Note 8's screen.

I tried it both at a camp/hotel and at home. Doesn't matter which TV I'm plugging it into, it's still the same end result; my Note 8 reliably connects over Miracast to it, but Netflix refuses to display.

The problem might be the MWDA. I never used one, I used a 3rd party display port to HDMI cable when connecting my Surface to a TV.
I cast apps from my Note 8 to my TV using Smartthings app. Or if you click the button which says 'button order' for your notification shade, there should be one that says 'smart view' I have successfully cast Netflix on my phone to my TV this way.

The MWDA works perfect and reliably for ANYTHING else, besides Netflix. SmartThings is casting via Chromecast in your Smart TV, that's why it works with Netflix.

That's exactly how I cast from my Note 8's screen to the MWDA, again, it works reliably with everything else but Netflix. The difference is it's using the Miracast protocol in the case of my MWDA, whereas the one to your Smart TV is using the Chromecast protocol (SmartView supports both).
Anyone else have any suggestions on getting Netflix to work over Miracast?

Have not been able to screen mirror to my TV through either my Roku (I have a Roku 3 and Roku stick and same issue on both). I have never had a problem using the wireless screen mirror function with my Roku's before. I also have allshare cast on my Samsung DVD/surround sound system, and it will never connect the wireless screen mirror from my phone either. My phone will say it is connected to the Roku's, but it will sit there on the Roku screen on the TV at about 30% of the bar that comes up when the phone is first loading the screen mirroring to the TV.
Yesterday I almost bought a chromecast dongle yesterday to see if that will work for screen mirroring, but figured I should ask here if anyone else has had an issue wirelessly screen mirroring with their Note 9. TIA any help appreciated!

Thanks for the info. My S8+ and Note 8 both used to cast fine to the Roku and my Samsung blu ray system. I still have my Note 8 and now it doesn't screen mirror anymore either. Thought it was just a Note 9 issue but it also plagues the Note 8 also. Maybe it's and android 8.0 issue?

My wife s8 casts just fine with stock app. Ive read a lot of horror stories with smart share and such all the way back to 5.1 or 6.0. Random issues with each update
Yeah, wireless screen mirroring has always been a bit stuttery. But at least it worked in the past. Now, it doesn't. I have tried my Note 9, Note 8 and my wife's old S8 (now our sons phone). None of them seem to work. Thought it was maybe my router settings or some setting on my phone, but don't think those are the issue. Still might buy the chromecast and see if it works. Although I read the chromecast has it's own issues and bugs. You'd think as tech gets better these thing would work better, but doesn't seem to be the case so far!

So I DL'd the app and it does work to cast misc stuff to the Roku. It doesn't screen mirror though, and I really need a full screen mirror so I can mirror Watch ESPN from my phone to my TV.
Still can't get the Roku and phone to actually screen mirror - it just sits there on the "starting video from..." screen. Dunno WTH the problem is.
I finally got this to work. I went into the Roku settings and on the screen mirror settings I put "prompt" instead of "always allow". When the two devices tried to connect the Roku came up with the "allow device" prompt, I hit "allow" and it connects every time now.
I had also went into Smart View settings on my phone and looked at various settings there. I didn't see anything I thought would help, so I don't think it was any settings on the phone. Dunno for sure. I am just happy to have screen mirroring that is working now!

Ima try this guys fix and see if prompt works
Well I thought I had posted this earlier today, but for some reason my post didn't go through. I got screen mirroring to work via the Roku. What I did was go into the Roku settings and changed the Roku from "always" allow the phone to mirror to "prompt" before allowing. So after I changed that Roku setting, I went into Smart View and tapped on the Roku tab in smart view. The Roku then popped up with a message to "allow always", "allow once", or "deny" my phone from pairing to screen mirror. I hit "allow once" and immediately it worked. Tried it about 5 more times, it worked every time. Was able to mirror Watch ESPN and every app I tried.
Hopefully this was the cause of my issues and anyone else having problems can get it to work the way I did.
Screen Mirroring
There's an app called screen mirroring. I have a Note 9 and it works fine on a roku to mirror your screen to the TV.
