This is the second time I am posting this as I have posted it once before and did not get even one response from a community known for its extensive knowledge in this field.... VERY frustrating as there was many views and no one offered any help. ANYWAYS,
I have been trying to get my OTG cable for my nexus 6 working for weeks now to no avail... I am rooted unlocked and have tried every app that I have found to help in the mounting process. I use TWRP and am not able to mount through recovery either. I have read that others have gotten an OTG cable to work with the Nexus 6 but like I said, no one has been kind enough to take the time out to help. Because I am out of resources I am going to put my faith in humanity and ask once again.... could someone who knows this process please give me a hand in this? Thank you very much in advance to anyone who would be willing to help.

I dont know if this will help, but here it goes.......
I needed an OTG cable for a device a few years ago. I went to microconnectors.com and searched...I found E07-171-OTG for 9 bucks. I didnt have to do anything more than connect it to my device and was able to wipe my device with no problem. I saw your post this morning and searched for my OTG cable and connected it to my N6 and it worked. Not that I expected anything else, as it is a USB MICRO to USB FEMALE. You can probably find it cheaper elsewhere on the Net, but again I did not have to load any software at all....just plug and play....so to speak. Hope this helps.....
Use Es explorer or chainfires stick Mount and or still work just fine. I use otg everyday without issues.

Thank you both for responding and I really appreciate you taking the time to do so. Unfortunately I believe that there is something more going wrong here than just missing a step. I have tried the CF stick mount and ES explorer. Also I too am using a standard micro USB to female USB connector and its getting no signal even when I look for it using a terminal emulator or adb shell i cant find anything under /dev or /mnt. I really need someone who knows linux better than me on android who can go through a troubleshooting process of elimination with me. Thank you both again for your quick reply!

Does the off work without issues on other devices? I don't use stick mount as much because es file explorer always works for me now. Did you look under the local section in es file explorer, it should be under the option for SD card on the. LHS window that you pull out.

yes I have looked under SD card in ES explorer. And Im assuming you meant otg and not 'off'? I have not used it on any other devices no. And it very well could be the issue that the cable is no good but that is part of the troubleshooting that I wanted to go through. I made the otg cable myself and I literally made three of them thinking maybe I was doing something wrong with the the fabriccation of the cable but I am 99.9% certain that there is nothing wrong with the cable. I made it a Y cable with the 4th and 5th pin on the mini usb male shorted (jumped). Then with the male usb type a plug only having pins 1 and 4 populated. I have made plenty of usb cables in the past and like I said made three of these before I was sure that the cable wasnt the problem. The cable when plugged in charges the phone fine just even with the otg troubleshooting app doesnt show a mount point. I couldnt even find it in the shell as a charging device yet it is clearly charging

Yes I mean OTG, although my keyboard disagreed...
It could be the way the device is seeing the cable (I know some cables are charge only) maybe the phone sees it as one of those? I would try to find someone else you know who has a Android phone and see if it works. Its odd that it doesn't work, I have a OTG cable and 3 OTG flash drives that I use, but I haven't had any issues with my phone finding them.

When you say otg flash drive do you just mean flash drives that you have dedicated to otg use or is there something special about them? How about the permissions or the way the flash drive is formatted? should work with just a normal fat32 formatted flash drive right? And I tried getting the cable to work before I even put the charging option on it thinking maybe the flash drive needed power and didnt work than either. How about when a flash drive has a led light for an indicator on it. when you plug it in to your phone via the otg does the light blink during activity?
o and I have checked continuity of the cable with a multimtr and everything is fine there so GRRRr!

I know enough to splice some wires but I couldn't tell you why it's not working. I hope someone here can help you out.
so I tried a usb with a led indicator light and it does indeed light up showing me that the cable is in fact good and that the usb is being recognized but I still cant mount it or see it in the file systems.... The light flashes on the usb when the phone is booting and when I plug in the usb and still no recognition in files

Have you tried this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer&hl=en
It's 3.99 but if it works then it's money well spent? Someone posted a video on this app working on an unrooted Nexus 7 Tablet using a cable and regular thumbdrive, not an OTG drive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDq0MLkE3Pg

Thumb drives will work anyway assuming they are formatted correctly. I believe they need to be ExFat not Fat32 to work with OTG.
I did try exfat also and no luck there either... the cable does work on other devices so wtheck? Anyone else can give me some help please? Perhaps a "member" could help....

I got the updated version of captivate from att center with froyo with gps fixed. Now two new issues: I rooted the older one and used titanium to back my datas.
Now with new one, I tried to restore two roadblock.
- Windows driver no longer works with this new version. I even removed the drivers from registry still no avail. (SGH-i897_Captivate_USB_Drivers_5_02_0_2.zip)
Once re-install then I choose USB storage version and driver installs but systems can not recognize the device and appears as unknown device in the device manager.
- One click root application can no longer recognizes this new version. This is the app I used to root and unroot the older captivate. GalaxyS_One-Click_Root_All_Models
However, I believe this might be due to the first problem, the driver is not being recognized.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks,

Well well... so I guess I'm not the only one with this "unrecognized USB drive" issue. I too exchanged my old one because of audio jack issue from at&t service center on September 3rd. The GPS is amazing but I cannot mount it as SD card. Tried everything regarding installing drivers. I tried all the USB port available on my system, still no go. Uninstall and removing every single trace of registry. Still no go for mounting as drive. The Max I can do is mount as MTP. But as soon as mount as storage, it pops up saying 'unrecognized USB drive'. I have literally invested more than 24 hrs without any fix. Only good thing about this is that the GPS is a killer. I drove from Indianapolis to Louisville and it didn't deviate even for a second from the route even when I sometime reached a speed of 90mph. If anyone know how to resolve the issue of mounting the phone as storage device without getting the USB error, your work will be highly appreciated.

Try a different USB cable. The one that comes with the Captivate stinks. I had no problem mounting my Captivate on my old computer (which is a Mac), but when I got a new iMac, my phone refused to mount. After several hours of screwing around, I tried the USB cable that came with my wife's Motorola Bravo. Damn thing mounted right up.
If I use the stock Samsung cable, nothing. If I use the Motorola cable, flawless.
Give it a try.
+1
That will work for your situation

It has to be something with voltage. My Samsung USB cable (the one that came with the phone) worked just fine with my old computer. When I upgraded my computer, the cable no longer worked.
I did notice that if I plugged it into a USB hub instead of directly into the Mac, then the phone mounted...but the connection was slow and it dropped all the time, so it was basically unusable.
@guyenxda000...try a different cable before you decide it's not going to work. It actually might.

First, make sure you're not mounting the phone before trying to root it. Make sure USB debugging is turned on, then plug in the phone and just leave it like that. The root process won't run if you have the SD card mounted. Also, make sure you have the latest drivers. Then run your one-click root.
I used SuperOneClick on mine and it worked the first time. My build is an 1101, so newer phones might not be supported. I have no idea if it makes a difference or not.
Dude thx for ur effort for help. But all ur instructions seem to imply i am doing first time. If u read thru this post i already done successfully with my older version phone which means i must have followed all the steps u described. if u really meant to hlp can u clarify build 1101 u kentioned? If u do that it cn help me someway. Thx
okay lot of progress yesterday, but hit a roadblock.
changed new cable, i had to put the phone into debuggin mode, which I forgot. Now I tried one-click-root app, it does put the phone into recovery mode, but still fails to root saying e-signature verificaiton failed or something.
went through a hard manual way:
copied the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin into sdcard.
supposedly that should open the terminal emulator in super user mode so that i can mount the /dev/block/st19 into /system as a RW mode, which enables me to copy the other files such as superuser.apk into /system/app folder.
Howeer rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin does not seem to do the job. instruction says after 'spawn child' message restart the terminal emulator which should have turned into # command prompt rather than $. I believe # means enabled to do a root privileged stuff like remounting /system folder. Anyone has hit this roadblock? Thanks,
I've been showing off the Nexus Media Importer, also using for practical purposes. Got a right-angle OTG cable off Amazon, paid too much, but it worked perfect with the mini-16gb flash drive in it. It also work with a card reader no problem. This was rooted on 4.2 using NMI 3.2.2. No problems, great program.
Then I saw there was an update to NMI 4.0. Installed it and now NONE of my USB devices show up. Always says "No Device. Click Scan to Retry". It used to just pop up automatically when I plugged it in. No longer.
I downloaded USB Device Info.
On the Android side, nothing shows up. On the Linux side, usb1 shows up, looks like the internal USB hub. Oddly enough when I plug my OTG USB cable in, a usb2 also shows up on the linux side. All output is identical except for the device where it said usb1 for the usb1 device, it shows usb2. So there's SOME data communication taking place it seems.
I've rebooted, I've discharged and recharged, I've made sure everything is plugged in tight. I am on 4.2 rooted, and have been since before I even installed NMI 3.2.2. The developer is helping but he seems to be in head-scratching mode right now. So, anyone got ideas? This was no the el-cheapo $0.80 USB OTG cable from Hong Kong, I paid quite a bit to get it from Amazon. That said it probably is the exact same cable but I digress. On the off chance that the cable suddenly died the moment I updated NMI, I've ordered another cable (this time a cheap one, but still the right angle).
Please anyone have help? I need this program to work!
Edit: FWIW I saw that Stickmount got updated to support 4.2. Downloaded and installed it. It also doesn't see my flash drive (which was working fine 2 nights ago). Did my OTG just die or did something screw up my devices? I hate to do a hard reset and go through and reconfigure everything, even with TiBu backups.)
I know this doesn't help you, but FWIW, NMI 4 is working fine now 4.2 for me, so it is definitely something on your end.
Do Windows machines see the usb drives ok?
Do you have another device to test the OTG cable with on your phone like a game pad or a Canon DSLR?
I'd suspect the OTG cable...
Windows sees the drive and the card reader just fine, the two devices that were working. I got a new OTG on the way, even though this was brand new, and no, I I don't have any other device to test it on. Also I tried stickMont since its supposedly 4.2 friendly now and It doesn't see anything either. If the new otg doesn't work guess I'll back everything up and factory reset.
Edit: Actually a factory reset will only clear the data - won't reset the system device files will it? I'll need to get a full 4.2 image and put it on, I guess with Wug's, it's what I used before, then re-root, and restore everything with Titanium Backup. Man I hope it's just the cable. It was only 3 days old tho!
Bad cable! Got a new cable and it's fine.

Hello,
few days ago I've got my USB OTG cable. So, when I connected this OTG cable to my USB HUB through USB cable with 2 sides of type A port (pic here : http://www.cyfronika.com.pl/art93/kab120aa-l.jpg) to get power on HUB from USB port charger but nothing happened on phone with flash storage, any notifications or something. Then, when I wanted to transfer some files from my computer to sdcard. I've connected USB cable but Windows 7(32-bit) says that my device can be damaged or something (code 43). I've searched about this and found this http://pcsupport.about.com/od/errorc/a/code-43-error.htm . I've used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21503469 for setting up the OTG and for kernel too.
Well, I've followed this tutorial but the error still appears. Tried on 3 computers with different cables and different USB ports.
So just tell me if it's software problem or I must do something with this.

(bumpin' like a crazy) Please, anyone have solution for this problem?
So the general idea is, you're trying to let your phone connect to other hardware while the phone is the host, right?
Now you're trying to connect your computer to your phone again normally and it's not working? (normal usb cable)
For one, there are a bunch of errors in the log you posted, thinks like
Code:
W/PackageManager( 353): Unknown permission android.permission.ACCESS_SUPERUSER in package hu.sztupy.android.usbhostcontroller
That might be a problem, I don't know. Perhaps you're better off asking the dev of this mod about these errors. Maybe there's something you forgot or wasn't mentioned in your guide that causes these?
Have you also considered the possibility your phone is now *always* trying to be the host (which is not going to be something a pc likes)? You're saying you can't properly connect with your pc any more, but can you connect with another device (usb stick for example)?

ADDED MORE LOGS.
Hello fellas,
I have a problem with my brand new T813 running the latest official firmware available (Android 7).
Massive storage is not working, my computer running Windows 10 with updated samsung drivers has failed to detect it. The device charges, but I am unable to modify the usb options, regardless the choice MTP always remain.
I have tried with three different cables, all of them work fine with my S7, the computer never detects the device, eventhough it's charging. This means it is not a problem with the device's micro usb port. I have the latest drivers, and I have also tried with all usb ports. None of them seemed to do the trick.
The computer has faulty usb 3 drivers, ever since I have installed Windows 10, the speed is not what used to be with the previous configuration. I have the same drivers, I don't understand what's wrong.
Any help would be appreciated, I have tried most solutions mentioned on this community and they didn't work. I can't flash the device because it is never detected. The problem still persists after a restablishment via the menu.
Download mode shows

[UPDATE] 06/08 11 AM
Left the device at SAMSUNG ARGENTINA repair shop. Also had to pay 300 pesos (around 20 dollars) as a diagnostic fee, they told me that if I accept the repair cost later on, they would discount the 300 pesos I have paid out of the total price. And if I don't, they will keep the money.
Will update again when Samsung calls me in a couple of days. Maybe this monday, I hope so.
[UPDATE] 06/08 15 PM
I have just received an email from BGH, which is the SAMSUNG ARGENTINA official partner for repairs. They told me that the problem is a FAILURE on the SUB board.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-C...g-Galaxy-Tab-S2-9-7-034-SM-T813-/322414846816
The good thing, is not that expensive. The bad thing, this tablet hasn't arrived officially to Argentina, and since it has been bough in Chile, the guys at SAMSUNG ARGENTINA had to request an international order replacement, which I have been told it could take some time. But they will eventually get the piece.
Will update again.

Thanks for replying, please refer to first screenshot. No Mass Storage option appears after connecting device. MTP option seems to be forced, i am unable to change it.
The tablet is brand new, but the guy who sold it to me said that it has always been working. He even told me that it has been barely used, and that the device is recognized when connected to an usb audio system. It has been upgraded to 7.0.1 a couple of days ago, maybe that's the problem.
I have just tried with a macbook air and it didn't detect it either, it is only charging. The same computer has detected my S7.

Modern devices don't use mass storage anymore, they use the MTP protocol.
You should see your storage folders pop up in my computer.

Thanks for replying. ADB and USB debugging activated, I have also performed a factory reset and the problem still persists.
Using a microSD didn't help either.

Sadly nothing at all, the device only charges via usb. This is very confusing because the guy who sold it to me said it was working, but he has also said that he has never plugged it in a computer.

I have tried with a mac and nothing has happened, it is only charging. The same computer has detected my s7.
A lot of people seem to have experienced this problem, the remaining solutions I didn't try are using other pc or try cleaning the female port with isopropilic alcohol. Hope it does the trick, otherwise I'm screwed.
I will try at work tomorrow.

That is the problem, when I connect the cable nothing happens, it is only charging. Windows doesn't even detects it as an unknown device and neither does mac osx.
I didn't know mass storage is not used anymore, I think my S7 does have it and it works. I will try at work tomorrow.
When the problem appears with different USB cables and in different computers, as in your case, you have to look into the possibility that it may be a hardware issue.
I hope I'm wrong about this, but it sounds like the DATA+ or DATA- pin is damaged in your micro usb socket (pins 2 and 3, see http://pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/micro_usb_pinout.shtml)

Yes, I'm afraid it could be a hardware problem. But that would also mean the guy who sold it to me is lying. I have to say it, the device looks like it has been treated with care. However, i have noticed the plastic has worn out a little near the usb port, those black marks could indicate not so much care when plugging or unplugging the cable.
I hope we are both wrong about this. Tomorrow i will know. Fixing this is a pain in the ass, right?

¡Che! Replacing the microusb receptacle would not only be a pain the ass, but if you make a tiny mistake while soldering or desoldering you can end up with a bricked tablet.
Anyway, let me know what you find out tomorrow, good luck boludo.

Actually not too bad as the Micro USB port is a module and can simply be swapped out.

Hi everyone
here I've got a terrible issue with my note 8 and SAMSUNG USB OTG.
When I connect my otg and a flash memory to phone, nothing happens, unless you force restart the phone while the otg is connected. After booting I can access to my flash memory but after removing the otg and reconnecting it, again nothing happens unless force restarting.
I've tried everything possible. Downgrading, upgrading, 4 files rom, pit file, rom from different zones, but still have the problem. I have no other issues regarding the USB port and charging, fast charging, connection to computer and any other stuff works fun but this OTG.
I wanted to know if anyone have any solutions for my problem or if anyone had the same issue or not.
it is also worth to mention that I have not rooted my phone due to warranty issues, and for that I haven't tested any kernels.
thanks for everyone

That isn't right... As soon as I plug in my OTG USB key it detects it, no restart required.

allow file transfer .... possible
Nope, I have developer options enabled but debugging isn't on. never had to enable file transfer.
When I plug in the OTG device I see a usb icon in the notification panel. Swipe down and pick explore. Mind you it only opens in the stock file explorer, I did have another file explorer that picked it up too but can't think what it is and it has been lost myriad of other apps I test and play with...
Just be aware that it may take a few seconds to scan the device, depending on size, and then display the icon.

i know it sounds weird but from past experience flaky USB drives are more trouble than they are worth, from first hand experience i know patriot, corsair and sandisk work well as OTG drive
also you neglected to mention the file system the USB was formatted with, i believe only FAT, FAT32 and exFAT are supported

also possible that the phone doesn't like your OTG adapter. I bought a usb 2.0 to type C adapter which doesn't even work on the phone - when I plug it in usually the moisture sensor error comes up saying water is in the device and I should let it dry. Unplug the OTG and the error goes away.
So... I bought a USB 3.0 A to type C OTG adapter and that one works fine with everything I've tested (usb flash drives, keyboard, usb ethernet adapter, etc)
I believe the USB-C to USB-A adapter that came with the phone is actually an OTG adapter (tested xbox360 controller and keyboard)
I also believe that the note8 can host usb flash drive native (no need for OTG cable) as i have a dual head USB-C and USB-A flash drive which is recognized once the USB-C end is plugged in

I'm test with any OTG cable or.....not work
also reconnect and again connected but no answer
only with force restart
Sorry to dredge up a semi old thread, but has anyone found a fix for this?
I'm having almost the same issue, I finally decided to try out the OTG adapter from the box and nothing works, it isn't even recognized. Tried ps4 controller, mouse, keyboard 2 different thumb drives. Can't figure out what the deals is.
Other than that pc connection seems to work and charging works fine. TIA
I'm having a similar problem. A month ago, used both OTG adapters (original from Samsung and a generic one) it detects my memory sticks as a hard-disk and was able to manage my files. But since a couple of weeks ago it does not detect them anymore. Is like it did not supply charger to them anymore. I have tried the USB debugging menu and no difference at all. Even I got back to factory reset expecting to solve the issues but nothing happened. The port as such is working perfectly because I'm able to charge through it. On the other hand, Samsung DEX is not working as well. It just charges the phone but never boot-up.
I'm just waiting for Oreo and hopes this will sort the problems out.

That sounds like a bodged port to me man
Is there any dust or dirt in there that you can see?
I really don't think Oreo's gonna fix that for you

Seems to be a little bit dusty. Anyway, the other thing is that, when the Usb is detected it ask to choose between transfer files, images, midi device and so on, even if I choose "transfer files" mode it always get stuck as "charge connected device".
Hi i have the same problem... my note 8 can connected mith my notebook, but my otg with an usb stick cant recognize my note8. I test the same otg with usb stick on my friends phone example S8 and it detects promptly all.
I hope the fixing take not long time. I waiting for help. Greets
Well, adding one more case here, my native file manager doesn't recognize any memory connected via the original otg conector, but, using x-plore file manager, problem solved, as I use x-plore since my symbian days, I never gave this issue much importance, this problem was present also with my note 7

This. I have exactly the same experience. I bought a couple of months ago a new Note 8, and finally decided to try the OTG adapter that came in the box. Nothing worked. I tried the adapter with a friends phone and it worked like magic (USB drives, mice, keyboards, controllers, etc.).
Would really apreaciate if anyone can provide help on this issue... Cheers!
