My phone has developed a weird issue this evening and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. When in landscape if I try to unlock the phone from the Active Display it will not unlock, it will only unlock in portrait. If you have experienced this how did you resolve the issue?

No issue here.
If you are rooted and tweaking with any Xposed framework modules, it would be worth backing out any changes you have made. E.g. GravityBox lock screen rotation enabled 'may' have an interaction with active display. Uninstalling something is not the same as backing out a change, but you probably already know that.

I do have lock screen rotation enabled but from what I can tell it only affects the actual lock screen. I was just messing around with the active display and it seems to be working but there is a pretty wide delay on it. I actually have to hold my finger there for a second before releasing it then it'll open it. This all just started last night too.
Will the nexus 6 have wave-to-wake feature like the Moto X 2014?
If not by default then is it possible that it can have this feature in future by any means??
No, it does not have it by default.
There are apps that can use the proximity sensor with older phones to wake it up, so I imagine that at some point, yes, it will be possible to replicate the Moto X wave-to-wake feature via app.

Ok.. I hope it does happen...
I use this this feature frequently on my Moto X 2014. I will definitely miss it if I get a N6.
Here's the app I use on my Nexus 5. Assuming there aren't any issues running it under Lollipop, it has a setting that wake the phone with a wave. However, I'm not sure whether it will FULLY wake the phone, or let you just activate Ambient Screen. Maybe contacting the dev, and requesting an Ambient Screen setting would help.
Gravity Screen - On/Off
It wont by default - it is a moto specific software feature.
Begging or hoping it is added will do nothing, as the nexus is from google OS wise, and moto hasn't added that specific software (or hardware, see below) to it like the moto X.
Your best hope is 3rd party app that can give that capability, however that said, the phone would have to have the IR sensors like the X in order to detect the handwaving, which AFAIK it doesn't have.
Is this the same feature found in the note 2?

All modern smart phones have proximity sensors though, and third-party developers have tapped into those. The trick isn't the detection, it's the activation of Ambient Screen without fully waking the phone.
For instance, the Gravity Screen app I posted earlier will wake my N5 with a wave over the screen just perfectly, but it FULLY wakes the device. If they can alter that to give the option of waking the device, or only activating Ambient Screen, then it would almost perfectly emulate the Moto function.
Like the title says. When the phone is screen off but plugged in, OK Google isn't recognized. Works fine if screen is on. In my Google / Voice settings I have turned on Say Ok Google Anytime and Trusted Voice to unlock.
It worked fine on my LG G3 previously before I came to the 3T.
Any ideas?

For me also not works
This is proving to be very annoying.
I tried the Now Launcher to see if it would fix this problem (I was going to use it anyway since autorotate seems broken with stock Launcher).
Now launcher doesn't change the situation. Does anybody have a work-around? This is the first phone/os that I have had this problem with.
Help!

When i tried, it says there is locked screen (i have fingerprinted lock screen), but when i recognized and accepted, it had no reaction. Do you tried only swiped lock screen?
Tried a bunch of things. When screen is off (but charging)I haven't found any combination of settings that work. I use a fingerprint but noticed problem before setting up the fingerprint. Also have set that my voice can be trusted to unlock; also in my car the phone is unlocked as a trusted Bluetooth device.

For me sometimes it has vibration, sometimes it says that phone are locked. But still not works "ok google" on black screen
I guess what does it means. When you press unlcok button, if there is swipe or something, it unlocks device when you say "ok google"
I have the same problem..ok Google does not work when the screen is off..bt works fine when the screen is on
I've asked this question over in the OnePlus community forum on OnePlus.net. I don't think the readership there is as savvy as here though. I've already gotten some patently wrong answers. I'm still hoping someone can suggest a fix or at least work-around.

I have that option checked and it still stops working for me if I haven't used my device for more than 5 minutes.

I also would like to use OK Google with the screen off.
This has been driving me a bit crazy. I can't imagine what is blocking it from working. Glad to hear it isn't just me experiencing it... At least I am not alone.
I can't imagine it is a technology gap on the phone... That would only apply to screen off / not charging cases. Microphone certainly can work with screen off... For example talking on phone the screen shuts off in proximity to the head. And it's not a power issue, since this use case includes charging.
Somewhere there must be a hidden toggle for some feature set the wrong way.
Anybody have skills to investigate?

you can't.
always listening isn't enabled on our phone (something about licensing with qualcomm).
I don't need always listening... I need listening while charging. Even phones from 5 years ago do this...

again, you can't. IT IS NOT ENABLED ON OUR PHONE.
Yes, my nexus from years ago can do it.
but no, our 3T will NOT do it.

This kind of makes hands-free driving and home voice actions pointless.

Thanks for the reply. What exactly isn't enabled... or better asked, at what level is it not enabled? The SnapDragon 821 has support for it. So, perhaps this will come in an update or a custom ROM. Or is there some other layer which needs to be developed that OP currently hasn't?
It's beyond shocking that a major feature ... voice response while driving ... would be crippled in a recent model phone. And, I am ignorant of what exactly needs to work. The microphone works fine when the screen is off, and I have no concerns about battery performance when plugged in and charging, so an app should be able to be told to listen to the microphone under these circumstances.
Any further info about what's missing would be greatly appreciated!
It worked for a short time for me. I could say, "ok google" with the screen off, but I'm guessing the app updated or a rom changed one little thing and now it's a pain in the ass.

Yes, the 821 has support for always listening. However, the phone company (OnePlus) has to pay the SOC company (qualcomm) in order to use always listening (more on always listening later). Is it possible for a developer to somehow enable it? Yes. As seen with the Ok Snapdragon concept with the nexus 4, we can indeed enable it. However due to legal issues, that mod was never released.
Another reason is marketing. Motorola was able to promote their Moto X Pure so much because it had their custom "Ok Google" thingiemajig. If every phone had always listening, why buy a nexus / pixel / moto?
If you want the phone to listen and respond to your voice actions while the screen is off, regardless of whether or not it's plugged in, you need always listening. Unless you're in a call, of course.
I've heard that PA and/or CM managed to make a hackaround this for other OP phones, but I cannot confirm that it actually exists as I have never looked into it.
Great explanation. Thank you

Has anyone noticed an issue with the auto brightness of the note 8 ? It seems it doesn't get adjusted efficiently! Sometimes it's too dim and sometimes too bright, that's so disturbing
It's really funny, it worked after I installed an application called lux lite, that's unbelievable.. I need to install a third party application on a 1000$ cellphone to get such a basic function working. Thanks Samsung !

I believe you are wrong about this. The auto brightness is adaptable, in the sense that you can set it manually wherever you want in different comditions and it will learn your preferences and interpolate. I actually find it very flexible.

I find that is not doing such a hot job at learning my preferences. I keep having to manually adjust because my phone thinks it knows what I want. It's annoying.

do you mean that it has a new functionality that has not been in old phones? I have the Note 4 and it works like a charm, but the note 8 auto brightness works strangely, when I'm in a room with low brightness the screen light goes so dim that I can barely see anything!
Ive experienced the same thing, I have to do a screen lock for its auto brightness to work correctly
Hi,
(sorry for my English)
Your message was one month ago but I reply just in case some people have the same issue.
You have to call samsung about your issue. I have done that there are 2 months ago and Samsung are going to change the settings only if they have lot of complaint about this weird behaviour of the note 8, S8 and S8+.
The new settings of the auto brightness is "smart" but often it's more like "lost" than "smart"... :/
I adked to Samsung to give 3 choices for the settings of the auto brightness for the user instead of 2:
1) manually
2) auto "smart"
3) auto "not smart" => so the phone adjust the brightness depending only of the light sensor.
They told me that my proposition can be integrate only if they received lot of complaint.
Seems to come with last update
I can confirm am having the exact issue..
Brightness doesn't seem to auto adjust. Even after a reboot. The issue seems to come during the last update - the update where now we can have video lockscreen and animated AODs.
Hope this is resolved soon.

I don't recall having issues on the last update, but I am on the latest CRG1 now and it's working fine on my N950F.

I ran the sensor tests, and it seems that more than the lux sensor is not responding ...
My heart rate sensor seems to work on a hit-or-miss basis..
SpO2 working fine though.

Try and reset your usage pattern and give it time to learn your usage. You will have to adjust the slider for your preference while its learning. I'm on the latest oreo and have no issues with it.
Reset phone to factory settings..
Issue persists!!
Hello Guys,
Yesterday I received the August 1 Update on my note 8.
After the update, I confirm the matter has been tackled
Screen rotation, auto brightness all working fine now.

That's strange. My auto brightness worked fine up until the latest update. It is the August update that caused the problem for me.
Actually, providinf an update on the matter.
Some days later, situation came back to square one!
Not working:
Light sensor
Heart Rate sensor
Proximity sensor
Gyro sensor
Magnet sensor
Accelerometer
Just fingerprint sensor seems to be working fine.
I was on a trip in Malaysia and was at a Samsung store. They told me this is a very common issue and easily solved by 'software update' but when I went on to the service centre, they denied me since my phone was bought in different country. Phff
If the next OS update doesn't resolve this then I would recommend that you take your device to a Samsung Service Center
Anyone got their unresponsive device working back again ?
Hi there,
I've found this easy tweak to enable double tap to wake on Huawei/Honor devices.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/enable-double-tap-to-wake-t3312676
I loved this feature on my old G4, as it was not needed to pick up the phone from a desk, etc. Unfortunately, it seems Huawei does not give a f...k and adds and removes it randomly from its products lineup depending on the weather I guess.
The above instructions are really simple on a ROOTED device. Would any candid soul that already has a rooted mate 10, try to see if the feature is at least available in the system file? (super simple to do with a root explorer). My phone is not rooted, as I'd not like to void the warranty in case I return it since I'm not fully happy so far with this and other Huawei SW neglicencies.
Cheers.

You mean, the option shows up in the accessibility menu, but not possible to activate right?. Shame on Huawei.
WHICH FIRMWARE ARE YOU ON?. I'm on 142 on a EU hardware.
BTW, any other reliable 3rd party up or alternative to wake up the phone without picking it up or using the power button?

I'm on B145.
They include a lot of "features" for other Huawei phones, as they seem to use the same sources when they build. Many are non-functioning though.
Face unlock with pick-up to turn on screen works fine. Or just fp reader on the back
But it still requires lifting the phone or putting your finger on the back.

Right. What a waste of such a great HW with such a poor software, lack of basic premium (?) features on a high end device.
Thanks anyway mate!

Am sure you are aware kernel must support double tap to wake in order for this switch to work, if u guys have a kernel that supports this... It will work else no way on earth that's happening
BTW, tried a few of those 3rd party apps where I managed to wake the phone up via the IR sensor from the AOD screen. But, this only works for a minute or so, if the AOD is on for longer, IR cannot wake it up.
Looks as if the app is put in a deep state or the sensor not accessible by it once the phone enters a deeper stand by (?).
All power saving crap option disabled. Wrote the developer but no response.
You guys, since you rooted it, would you know if the issue is still present when you freeze power genius via Titanium perhaps?
