[Q] Ascending / Increasing Ringtone - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there. I've got the N6 and so far it's great but one of the things that I absolutely hate about it is the Ascending Ringtone "feature" that either Google or Motorola has put on this phone. I'm one of those wacky people that likes to actually hear my phone ring, or alarm tone, or text notification at the volume that I set manually, rather than have the phone start the tone whisper quiet and then go up in volume.
I've heard of a custom ROM or two that have removed this feature (or at least made it OPTIONAL) but in my own personal experience, custom ROMs have always been too buggy for my taste. I wasn't exactly planning on rooting this phone, but I may just have to do that for a custom ROM that turns the ascending ring feature off or removes it all together. Sorry for the ramble, but I suppose my question is this: Is there a Custom ROM out there that is essentially a stock ROM - with absolutely nothing changed except for this? Is changing this feature something that someone like myself could accomplish by compiling a ROM on his own? I have no experience with this, only experience with flashing downloaded custom ROMs.
I don't mind stock 5.0.1, I just want to get rid of that ringtone issue. I've tried the "Disable Increasing Ring" app, but it has not helped.
Thanks for any help, or suggestions.

Sorry if it's in the wrong section, but I figured this was a development question, and not just a "hey my battery life sucks" question.

Needs to be moved to Q&A....
@KennyG123
@soupmagnet

This is a question about a custom ROM though - development, no?

Guys just report the thread, no need to comment or ping mods.

Or they could maybe answer? Trying to find out of this is something I can do - i e create my own custom ROM - I'm not asking if anyone got their phone on a certain date or what case they're using.

Funny how nobody answered the question. Everybody too interested in getting the thread moved. Well, now its moved, so has anyone got an answer for the question? This issue bugs the hell outta me, especially since the coolest part of my chosen ringtone is right at the beginning.

Thanks, that's exactly how I feel. Also, bump.

Bump

Bump

Bump. Id like to see a modification for this

This is why the question was originally posted in the ROM development section because it's about ROM development. No one here cares about it because they're concerned with hardware failure, account management, etc.
This isn't a "general" question.

Except the development section is for posting already developed items, not for requesting development...

Then maybe they should remove the "This thread is a question" option from the system for that subforum.

Bump.

Is there something that could be modified in the build.prop to change this behavior?

I just turned it off under settings.

[Q] FroyobyLaszlo ROM

Hi All. Long time follower on XDA for the G1 (9 months after the G1 debut) but first time posting. I just recently did the 2708+hboot hack for the 14mb to flash and test the lastest ROMs. I've tried everything that is currently available for download on XDA development and found that Laszlo 5.2 to be the smoothest and fastest (just as fast as Super CSDI).
I read through the entire post to see if anyone has experienced the same thing as I did, but no one really did. This ROM is amazing and everything is working great, but one thing. My question is--The Audible selection and screen lock sound do not work. One person ask about the screen lock sound not working, but no one answered. Is anyone else getting this problem besides me and is there a fix. I flash it several times and on 3 different G1s and get the same results. Maybe the download of the ROM I'm flashing is slightly corrupt. Any thoughts??? Thanks everyone for all your help through these years keeping the G1 alive and still amazing.

wish i could help you more but i have no idea what that is haha

im not using that rom at the moment but as far as i know the sounds were working.. is he using a kernel with it? maybe its messing with it..
Don't know what you mean by "Audible selection", but I would guess for the lock/unlock sound you need to install the audio from addons (since it contains the file). Type "addons" in terminal and follow the on-screen prompts.

Hi Adam, your the Man!
Thank you so much. Your suggestion fixed it. I was playing with Super Aosp 6.0 when you made the suggestion and I was very hesitant to flash again to find out that it might do nothing. But the speed of Laszlo was just to good to not find out, so I did and I'm glad I did.
I'm surprised that hardly anyone knew what I was talking about. So to clarify, if you go into Setting>Sound and then scoll down a bit you will see Audible selection and Screen lock sound options. The Audible selection is when it makes a 'Click' type sound when you select something. That extra audible feedback is very helpful.
I was going to just put up with Laszlo 5.2 even without sound if I had too, but I'm glad I don't.
Now I can finally stay with this for awhile to see if it is stable as well as fast.
Thanks again.

Time Stamp for Call History?

Just switched from iOS to Android (used to be an active member of the forums for WinMo), so forgive me as I know this has been asked before, but I didn't find any results in HTC ONE forum. I am having issues with the call history. It doesn't show a time only the date. There has to be a way to fix this on the stock dialer but I can't seem to find it anywhere in the settings. Any advice would be ideal. I prefer not to download a third party app for this fix but if this is the only way that would be fine, I guess. Thank you in advance.

Good question. 4.3 Sense 5
Date and time for text messaging only date for call history. It's annoying and I'm already over the 14 day mark otherwise I would return the device for that simple reason.

Yes, I'm have the same issue. I just got mine a week ago and installed the upgrade to 4.3 soon afterwards. The software on HTC One is not as intuitive as other phones I have had. The time of call is a basic and important part of call information, so it's beyond comprehension how anyone could leave this off.
I will contact HTC, and hopefully they will include a fix in their next update. How ridiculous to forget something like this. They seemed to have focused on doing a great job on the hardware and completely ignored UX on this phone.

[Q] [Noob] Special Features in 3rd party ROMs? [AN, TC]

Hi folks,
apparently I'm too much of a noob to be posting in dev threads directly.
Also, I come from the Nexus line, so please don't smash me down for the stupid questions that follow..
I see that Assist, the Camera, Touchless Controls and Active Display are apps and thus registered in the play store. However, to my understanding, they require drivers to run with respect to the "X8".
Does this stuff work on ROMs like Carbon or PA? Can you shake your phone to open the camera, do notifications trigger Active Notifications, does "OK Google Now" trigger?
(Thing is, I'm anxious as this time I have something to lose compared to the Nexus 4 I had before and which I flashed regularily )
Any answer is much appreciated!

IF the ROM is "stock-based", these features are most likely active. If you flash a non-stock-based ROM such as CM11, you lose all those features.
If you are curious, and the OP doesn't say, just ask in the appropriate ROM-specific thread. Those individuals will have the definitive answers for you.
Thanks a lot! So basically I'll have to check whether the OP shows something along the lines..
Next time you have a question, be sure to use the search feature! I think I answered the same question a few days ago.

Unless you need the Theme Chooser from Rom's I would HIGHLY suggest you install Xposed and then the Gravity Box module. Gravity Box has almost all the mods included in any rom and even better you get to choose which mods you want to use and don't have to worry about the "next nightly"/wiping/flashing/setting up your phone each time.
PS Make a clean Nandroid of your stock software before you flash anything.

LG Please know we hate this. Let us turn this annoying feature off

This right here pisses me off
Sick of this damn call timer when trying to use other apps during a call.
Although that there isnt the main reason why I'm getting rid of this phone, I'll go ahead and add it to the ever growing list of reasons why I'm dumping it and getting a Nexus 6. Screw LG and their locked down pile of garbage. Sad thing is, it's so much wasted potential.
I love it when a new device comes out, and XDA becomes riddled with whiney posts about "this" or "that" which users say they 'hate' or 'can't stand'. Okay, so there's no publicized root method yet, deemed safe for consumerism, but once that's released I'm sure that every little quarky nuance will have a method to remove, hide, or alter in some way. The call timer has an option for hiding in the LG G3 via G3 Tweaksbox. With that example, I stand confident that this phone will have some type of similarities to, as I mentioned, "deal" with the things people complain about. Fact is, this phone is not impressively different from the G3, and there are no real profoundly engineered improvements made in the G4. You may ask, "Apex, y u bye did fone den?" Good question. My answer is this, I like LG's products and I appreciate the work developers are able to do, in order to make something good, great. So, in the meamtime, until root is available, you won't hear me having a hissy fit about (insert whatever) things. Samsung isn't for me, HTC is bunk, Motorola, well... been there, done that. I think most folks would respect those complaints be made on Reddit, or somewhere besides the place that developers afford us the grace of enjoying what they do for the community, free of charge.

Because clicking a check box to unlock the bootloader is so hard. Root takes time on all modern devices.
Hahaha... Now root being available, I've installed debloated ROM and 3000mah battery serves me really well. Not to mention boost in speed as well. On stock ROM, I was missing my nexus 5 so much.
I hope you stuck around for a little longer. Feels like beasty phone just got injected with the steroid.

Agreed....I was fed up with this phone.....root came and glory glory amen it's a better phone. Even with just a simple debloated ROM....can't wait till they really tweak the stock ROM like crazy. I probably won't go aosp....because of the camera app...whole reason I bought the phone...it deletes the side car RAW file in the default gallery aosp can't do that...neither can manual camera app or Fv5

I'm not sure if you figured it out, but since we have root, you can download app ops from play store. Go to the phone section and disable draw on top. It will stop the timer. And so far I have not noticed anything wrong.

Seems like a really silly reason to get rid of an otherwise awesome phone...
What's funny is that the current root methods as dangerous as they are. Are no more dangerous then when I had my Evo4g, and that team didn't have something like "OEM Unlock" to make it easier. No risk, no reward.
Not to mention that you can drag that icon anywhere on the screen so i dont see how it can be so intrucive during other app usage. Also why dont you just talk on the phone, your on a call, pay attention and stop playing with other apps, real easy

Stereophonic | Remastered Android Audio

Stereophonic / Remastered Android Audio
Greeting fellow XDA'ers (?)
It's long overdue, but Stereophonic / Remastered Android Audio will be updated soon for 2020! I'm working on adding some new phones, and also have my sights set on adding Android 9 and 10.
Remastered Audio! What do I mean by remastered you may ask? Some sounds have been amplified, safely, some others have been de-amplified to less harsh levels based on manual listening and adjusting sessions. Mono tracks have been turned into stereo tracks, and some stereo tracks have been rebalanced to give better total output. I tried to insure that all audio tracks never surpasses -3db as a rule of thumb. The goal is to get as loud as COMFORTABLY possible or to LOWER the volume on some audio so it doesn't sound like your phone's speaker is exploding.
Basically...
Dislike not being able to hear your keyboard very well when you type?
Want to hear those lovely lock and unlock sounds without having to be in a whisper quiet room? (I know I do)
Are you annoyed by how outrageously quiet the camera sounds are?
Hate the distorted rattle sound that some ringtones cause due to being too loud?
Want to add a crap ton of new and cool sounds to your phone?
Want to preserve your phone's speakers to hopefully keep them from being damaged? (In theory)
Well look no further!
[Warning] This process does increase the file size of most audio files, while I've not heard any kind of lag or delay what so ever at all during my testing, even with crazy trying and such. It is entirely possible that some sort of lag/delay could be introduced on some/slower devices. This is just a theoretical guess mind you.
Thanks to user Eun-Hjzjined for the flashable zip. Just flash the attached file via your custom recovery and all should be well.
ALSO
Always looking for new system media dumps from new phones or new Android versions to remaster and add to the project! Feel free to send em my way!
I hope some of you get enjoyment out of this. I originally did it for myself, but felt that others like myself may want to enjoy better audio.
Thanks all!

Internet here is slow mate! Haha. Sorry
Logo is up!
So if I wanted to try this, I just flash in recovery. To get back to stock do I just flash the ROM again.
I have a general question for you:
I run most often PureNexus or another close variant and flashing this over my current setup (latest PureNexus) the names are the same but the actual sounds are different. They are remastered properly and sound really good, but it is almost like the names of the ringtones I know are not the stock ones that you remastered. Is there a reason why the sound files all have different names and different sounds across ROMs or is that an AOSP thing? I know CM has completely different ringtones and names, but just AOSP there doesn't seem to be a consensus on what name goes with what sound.

Basically yes, though you could backup your current sounds with a root file explorer. But honestly I am 99% sure you won't feel the need to switch back.

That is kind of what I thought. My favorite ringtone in stock PureNexus is Phobos (also one of my favorite rounds in Quake 3) and if I ever find out the actual name for that ringtone I'm going to request you to amplify it for me. Thanks for letting me know though and thank you sincerely for doing this. I can finally hear actions, like screen touches, without having to crank the volume :good:

I got it. I found it in a version of Skydragon ROM for the Nexus 6. I'm seriously starting to think that different Nexus phones (made by separate manufacturers) have different released sounds. Either way, I attached a zip, could I trouble you to perhaps to make this ringtone awesome like the others and I will track down the Jasmine ringtone for you? I'm pretty good at finding old files, I've been at the XDA thing awhile.

Thank you for this
Went through just a few folders (screenshot attached) but I found the notification called "Jasmine" that was released for the HTC One in one of the XDA community's audio ripping extravaganza. Credit goes to @Nick Fury who uploaded it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183179 so if you want the whole archive of sounds you can grab it as well. I zipped and attached Jasmine, but the sound on it is really low (your specialty as I recall). Hopefully it is the one you were looking for and if not believe me, I probably have the one you are looking for in the stuff I downloaded.
As an aside, Great archive of phone sounds found here: http://forums.theandroidchannel.com/topic/203-download-android-devices-stock-system-sounds/ (Where I got most of the files in my screenshot)

Went through just a few folders (screenshot attached) but I found the notification called "Jasmine" that was released for the HTC One in one of the XDA community's audio ripping extravaganza.
