Screen Issue - Nothing but random partial flashes - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

So I've had my Turbo since it came out and today I think it died on me. I sent one single text to my friend then all of a sudden my screen would not turn on at all. The phone was functioning because I felt vibrations for each notification I received but the screen displayed absolutely nothing. Force rebooted it about 3 times and noticed that it would flash every now and then but it would be a random white flash. Then I tried pressing the power button a few times and the screen would blink and flash partially. Anyone have some help for me? The phone has never been dropped or damaged. Do you think Verizon or Moto could replace it?

Nope the screen can't display anything so even if I could I wouldn't know. Whenever I press the power button it just gives me a delayed flash. When I force reboot it vibrates and will give me another flash when its powered back on.

If you don't have insurance, Motorola's warranty should cover something like that. Contact them and find out. Must be some weird digitizer issue. Unfortunately these mass produced microelectronic devices occasionally have manufacturing defects.

So my most recent update-
Went to Verizon and of course their shipping me a new one and I have to ship out my unit and if there is any water damage or anything I have to pay full retail. I am 99% sure this wasn't my fault or water damage.
Most recently I connected it to my PC and my PC noticed it as XT1254 but when I went to browse the device through my PC it was blank. No folders or files. I was trying to recover some pictures I had but it was completely blank. So weird. This phone was awesome but I honestly just want to get a Note 4 or something I'm afraid this will happen again!

So I just reconnected it to my PC and turned on my device. The display is still not functioning but I was able to unlock it using my pattern code. Then went to browse it through my PC and all my files and folders were there but the display is totally not functioning. This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. I've been an android user since the OG Droid and I never have problems with devices

[Q] OTA Bricked my Phone - Help!!!!

I forgot that my phone was plugged into my PC with the sd card mounted. I checked for update and it found one and started the download. The download just sat there at 0%. I realized my usb was connected and unmounted it (thinking that the update somehow was waiting for the SD card). No change, so I clicked Cancel on the upload screen. I then tried Check for Update and again and it said "no firmware". I rebooted and tried again. Still same message. I then tried "Resume update" instead of "Check for update". It said it found an update and would reboot the phone in 5 seconds. The phone then rebooted and it started to apply the update. This seemed very wrong to me because the updated certainly didn't have time to download. The update failed and it said it was rebooting my phone. The phone went off and now I can't get it to start back up. I press the power and get nothing. I pulled the battery and sim card. Still nothing. Any ideas?
Yikes, that's a sticky situation you've got yourself into. From reading around the forums it seems that the update was bricking phones anyway; however, from what you described it seems like that isn't your case. If you can't power on your phone, then there isn't a way to head back to stock or fix the update, that I know about. You might think about calling Samsung or AT&T and saying you tried applying the update, but now your phone won't power on.

try holding both volume keys and power button until you see something then release power.
If you bought your phone from an AT&T store and you have one close to you, I would take it in and show it to them. They replaced mine on the spot, took me less than 5 minutes.

I already tried that. I held them for 1 min. It just doesnt turn on. The battery was about 75%, so I know it's not dead.

I bought it from Best Buy. Also, it has been more than 30 day. I'm not even sure who to bring it to.

Check and see if there's a warranty center in your area. AT&T has one on the south side of Baltimore. You walk in, they test it real quick and if they can't fix it, they give you a new phone. Much quicker than exchanging it by mail if there's one close to you.

Yup. Nothing. Screen stays black. No sign of life.
Damn I was really close to messing mine up too then from the sound of it. I noticed my phone downloading some kind of update today too, well I immediately hit cancel, not knowing what it would do and wanting to come do some research here before accepting it. When I went back, I also hit Resume Update and it gave me the same "no firmware" error, then I hit check for update and it gave me an error message that said "You have not waited 24 hours since the last time you checked for an update, please wait 23...."
Guess I wont be trying to update tomorrow afterall
I had the same problem, but my phone completely downloaded the update. Couldn't power it on at all even if I pushed the + - volume button with power button. Took it to ATT and told them that it happened when I applied the update, and since I was over my 30 day update, they called some ATT replacement hotline and they are sending me one today.
ditto on a dead phone because of OTA my wifes not mine(glad it was hers)
stock captivate update stopped at 87% then went black, no power at all, not even the volume +- way
called att 2 day air on a replacement of course its a refurb but better than no phone at all....
oven
Well i am going to sound like nutcase but have you tried putting into the oven? I am being 100% serious. Look over in the i9000 forums and i think there were some people that were bricked beyond recognition and they did some crazyness such as putting it in the oven at 350 untill it was hot to the touch but not melting and it got their phones into download......just a thought and no i am not lying it worked for them!!!!
Best of luck guys
Remove the battery and put it again, without turning the phone on, press volume up + volume down, and then plug it to the USB connected to your computer.

That didn't work either. I will receive a replacement phone tomorrow. I hate getting a refurb. My phone is in perfect condition. I hope the replacement one is too.
Here's something that I did discover. I don't think the phone is actually dead. I think it's stuck in some kind of loop, making it completely unresponsive. I had it sitting in my dest drawer today for several hours. When I took it out it was pretty warm - as if was clocking some pretty serious cpu or network traffic. Either way, it's a brick, but I think it a living brick, not a dead brick. In case you're wondering, my office was like a refridgerator today, so it wasn't from the warm room.

I have received several refurbs over the years and all the phone appear to be brand new. I already exchanged my Captivate one. Not a scratch on them. Even though they say they are refurbs the device appears to be new product. You will not have a problem.
i got mine bricked too, it was perfectly fine before the update... it stopped at 50% and then it said update failed, phone rebooted, and then it never open its eyes again, its DEAD... omg, good job att! morons giving us wrong software...

I've had the same issue but I was able to fix it. Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact steps, you will have to try for a few times until you make it work.
When your phone is "dead":
1. Take out SIM+SD cards (keep your battery in)
2. USB connect to your PC
3. Start Odin3
4. VolUp+Power and wait until a few red colored lines will show up (if not then try for a few times until they show up), you should see something like this:
RST_STAT =0x1
PMIC_IRQ =0x3c
..... and so on.
5. When you see the red lines press VolUp+VolDown+Power
6. The red lines will go off/on in a few seconds but you keep holding VolUp+VolDown+Power
7. When red lines will go off for a second time just release Power, you should get back to download mode
8. Use Odin3 to re-flash
Good luck!

This sounds as crazy as out gets.

Dead within 8 hours of use (dead dead. not battery dead)

ok so i've been using it a bit but my battery was 70% last i checked. was playing around with throw and just opened youtube and the screen flickered a bit (black lines) then decided to go black completely.
nothing i do will make the screen do anything.
holding the power button for ages (usually the way to turn off/reboot a phone) doesnt do anything. the backlight is on as i can see that. but nothing is on the screen.
anyone got any ideas on how to force a shutdown/reboot on these?

IIRC the Xperia Z1 has a hard reset button under the sim flap, it's a small red button, give it a shot.
remove sim card and sd card and try again, if it's still not responding do an update repair using SUS or PCC
BTW there is a known fault with the XZU and it could also be on the Z1 as they use similar Firmware, what people have found is that the phone will start up eventually and then they go into the display setting and untick the auto backlight option and that fixes it
I also reboot my Z1in this way when it blackout.
Sent from my C6902 using xda app-developers app
Had the same issue called Sony, push hard reset button all is fine in the world. Known issue Sony is working on it
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk 4
Managed to hard reset using power and up volume .
Put it on charge overnight but it doesn't see,m to have taken any charge at all....just trying again using diff PSU and cables but it doesn't want to charge. It recognises that I've out a cable in as I played with the smart connect setting. When it is off completely I get a red light (presumably meaning its charging ) but not in android
Any ideas?
Got it charging again by pushing the red button near sim slot for a couple seconds.
Just had another issue with SD card not being recognised after I removed another (/safely) had to reboot again using power plus vol up as it stuck on the shutdown logo when I tried to power down'...
Wow I can't believe the amount of issues I've ran into within 24hours of having this thing. I really don't know what to do...return it because it sounds like a faulty device (but all the issues are seemingly unrelated) or return and get another phone (is anyone else getting problems like I am?)
Sometimes phones have issues. I got one once that had no speakers or Mic inside... it happens lol
Try to go exchange it, and see if the next device gives you issues.. if not then you're good, if it does pick a different phone..
Do it soon though, most carriers only have a 14 day exchange period, and then after that will charge you all sorts of fees and try to fix your phone rather than just giving you a new one....

sounds like a similar problem I had with my 64gb SD card - as I mentioned above remove all cards then start from there - a reflash of the firmware might help also

Something happened to mine with Youtube too. I'd started a video and paused it on a frame for comparison with another screen. While I was setting the other phone up, the screen on Z1 timed out. I pressed power, the screen come on and flickered, then went black!
Power and both volume keys function the same as the red button under the flap. I wasn't able to reproduce the bug.

yeah i've been trying to reproduce it and failing to. very odd. maybe its something to do with the first time you use youtube and do something specific?
gunna phone o2 up tomorrow and see what they say about all my issues. seems to have been fine this last 24 hours though and in their eyes that is prob reason enough not to issue a replacement.
I've had mine since Monday and this happened to me yesterday. I was troubleshooting sending MMS with T-Mobile tech support (not a phone issue as it was happening on previous phones too) and had to restart the phone several times. I noticed upon restarting that the backlight seemed to be on but the phone was not booting up. Had to perform several hard resets (both with the red reset button as well as the power/volume up buttons) before it FINALLY rebooted and stayed on. While trying to figure this out I ran a Google search to see if others were having this problem. One solution was to make sure the backlight option is checked. I had been messing with settings the night before and must have unchecked it. Since I rechecked it I haven't had the same issue.

[Q] My Z3C is dead

My Z3 compact is dead. It will not start after I shut it off.
I've loaded it with magnetic charger and USB cable and will not start. No lights and it does not vibrate.
I have tried to connect it to my computer and also printed on the yellow button next to the SIM card without result.
Someone who has experienced something similar?

I got the exact same problem TWICE a few months ago. I died completly random.
First time I send it to a repair center and they fixed it. Secend time, it came back to life after a few days:S.
I still thought it was weird behavior, so I send it to the repair center and explained very clearly what was my problem.
I think it also came alive the first time and they send it back.
I recomend you to wait a few days and try again. If it comes back to life, claim your warranty and EXPLAIN VERY CLEARLY WHATS WRONG.
Else claim your warranty anyway.
Good luck
I am experiencing exactly this issue. Tried all the usual stuff - reset button, power + Vol-Up, long press, etc. No use. Phone is just dead and refuses to wake up. It is not rooted, didn't drop it, didn't even get it wet. Will take it to the service center soon.

Dropped phone and the screen isn't powering on. Am I screwed?

So I have a nexus 6 I bought last year during black friday deals and I recently cracked my screen a few weeks ago. Today I accidentally dropped my phone on the carpet and at first it powered on no problem. Then, when I went to charge the phone, it didn't power on at all. It started to act all glitchy. Like if I messed around with the power and volume buttons, the flashlight would turn on. When plugging the phone into my pc, nothing shows up in the NExus 6 root folder. Its literally empty, no folders or anything. So I went on Android Device Manager to see if I can at least get it to locate the phone or ring and both worked.
Before I give up on this phone, I want to ask if theres a possible way to recover any files or contacts I have stored on there?
With ADM working, your phone is working. You can adb into it, second display, get the screen fixed, lots of options.

ADB is using android studio, right? How can I access files from there?
How would I get the second display to work? Getting the screen replaced on the NExus 6 is going to cost as much as I paid for the phone itself which isn't ideal for me. I could do it myself, but replacing the screen on the nexus 6 is nearly impossible.

Question HELP! Screen just turned off and won't come back on, but the device works.

S21 Ultra, US Factory Unlocked model straight from Samsung. I've had it for a month.
I was in the middle of using it and the screen suddenly went black. It didn’t do any screen off animation or power off animation, it just suddenly turned black.
I know the phone still works because if I hold pwr+vol down I can feel the vibrations as it reboots. I can also use *./adb devices* and it lists the device as connected. It also automatically opens android file transfer when I plug it into my macbook. All these things suggest that the underlying phone works fine.
It’s just that the screen won’t turn on.
What can I do, short of sending it to samsung for a warranty claim?
So I switched to my backup phone, left to take care of some business, and now the s21u is working.............
I'm not sure I can trust it any more. But also, WTF happened?
That's very peculiar... Especially given that you force restarted it with PWB+VOL-UP. I would have expected it to turn the screen on upon restarting.
Maybe back up all your stuff, wipe it and take it to Samsung and see what they would say? Maybe they would find some issue and replace it..
This has happened to me twice since having it since 1/28. Both times I was listening to music. Music stops. Screen goes black....eventually comes back after pressing power button and rebooting. It's almost like Blue Screen of Death behavior

what's your software version? have you submitted an error report via samsung members app?
I had this same issue on my old S5 where my screen would sometimes go black and still work. As a workaround, I used 'scrcpy' an open-source tool available on Github. I could mirror my phone screen on a PC and control it.
