Salutations oh learned ones..
I bought a ME170CX - a1 - bk /K01A for my kids, and I just would like to know if there is confirmed ( safe and simple ) root method for this model. I have come across instructions ( rootzenfone) for other MEMOpad models but nothing concrete for this specific one. Infact the rootzenfone site states:
"Does not support models:
Fonepad 7 FE170CG (K012)
MeMO Pad 7 ME170C (K017)
MeMO Pad 7 ME70C (K01A)"
Thanks in advance...
if necessary, admins please merge this with the appropriate thread.
I'll be following this post myself. In same situation, kids gift etc.
There's a reply within this post (see link below) which states they were able to obtain root (near bottom of page). I haven't tried it yet myself.

I was able to achieve root using the Root Zenphone tool on my MeMo pad me170cx. Just follow the instructions in the app to the T. After you count to ten, power off and wait 5 seconds and power back up and BAM.... you have root with supersu installed.

Thanks, so basically grab file from here http://www.asuszenfoneblog.com/2014/09/download-rootzenfone-146r.html
then run root.
Btw i'm on android ver 4.3
just to confirm i cant unroot and i cant update Os after root
Yeah that's what I used. I myself updated to 4.4.2 then rooted. Make sure you turn off Wi-Fi (forget network then turn WiFi off). After you hit the root button you will get a prompt that demo mode has been activated, just ignore this. Count to 10 as soon as you hit the button and power down. Wait 5 seconds and power back on.

I used RootZenFone1.4.6.4r.apk. If you can, find and use that one.

no chance of this tablet getting lollipop right ?
I don't want to say no, but then again, I'm definitely not going to say yes. Honestly I don't think so, but we'll have to wait and see. I'd rather have a custom rom myself, but that's just me.

I just wanted to ask since I can't find much discussion elsewhere on this, are there any ROMs out there for this Tablet? I honestly hate the bloatware installed on this Tablet, I just want something light on battery and fast for my simple tasks. I got this tablet for a nice price and would be a shame if there is not much available...
Unfortunately, there aren't any roms as of yet. I actually returned mine today and picked up a Nextbook 8. I'm in the same boat with this tablet. Gonna return this one also. Nexus 7 it is....again.

just upped to 4.4.2 , prolly root tomorrow 2015
I followed the instructions exactly.after I restarted it went to a second Asus loading screen It set there for like over an hour. Every time I reset it, it did the same thing. I eventually just did a hard reset. Now when I boot it says asus live demo has stopped working a whole bunch of times and everything is running like ****. I have rooted plenty of devices before and never had trouble. Is there any way I can actually restore back to normal or get the root to work. Please help. I am kinda freaking out.

That is a bummer... I just rooted this tablet and started to unistall the bloatware, I will share my results on whether that improves performance.
I actually got this tablet for $39.99 (I used an old coupon code I received), I feel like it may not be worth the hassle to return, since the Nextbook is $99.99.
Fingers are crossed deleting the crapware improves performance drastically, and possibly battery life! It's a neat tablet and can be an awesome tool for my use.

No just rooting doesn't mean that you have to lose your data. Unless you are on non direct rootable rom. Flashing custom roms require data wipes!

Okay I'm a complete noobie at this stuff. What does "flashing" mean? And one of the main reasons why I kept the stock rom is because I don't want to end up bricking my phone because I did something slightly wrong, also because I've rooted a windows phone before but the functions failed there after ... don't want to risk messing this new & expensive phone .

Flashing is the act of overwriting a ROM module in a device in order to upgrade it or change it.
Just like you reimage your windows system from XP to Windows 7
And like I am currently on Ice Cream Sandwich which is not even officially released
You have the links in my signature and if you follow the guidelines to the dot then it will be a peaceful process that will get over in max 10 mins Download Dr Ketan's guide from the Rooting link i have provided in my signature!
Rest everything depends on your comfortableness and choice!!

In the interview with CNET the android guys said it was mostly improved voice and touch response.
Got the update. Only two things I noticed so far is improved touch response (Scrolling through watch faces used to be a little bit of a pain). And it looks to have fixed this weird issue I had with the Dark Analog watch face where it would start to have this weird coloring when trying to dim after getting a notification. Goes perfectly black and white every time now it seems.

I received the KGW42N update and everything seemed to be going well then it rebooted and became stuck on the Downloading..... Do not turn off the device.
I waited 30 minutes then I held the button for a long time to reboot it. It did the updating 1 of 27 apps message like any Android OS then went to my Matrix Watch Face.
Everything was laggy for quite some time, swiping between screens and google now were horrible.
Also it was dropping Bluetooth connections quite frequently.
Rebooted my phone and Live 3 or 4 times and hopefully everything is good now.
I hope everyone else's update goes smooth.
I did notice my minuum keyboard in wear messenger no longer has the little send key.
I received the update this evening. Voice to text to reply to text messages seems to work better. Will need to use it more to make sure.

If you have TWRP flashed on this, the update does write over it with the stock recovery, you will have to reflash TWRP.

I know there are threads on this problem with other Transformer pads, but I am wondering if anyone had this problem with the TF701 (WW)?
I just get the message about "Unknown error, might be network connection..."
Of course my network connection is fine, and I am using the unlock tool found at ASUS support site for the TF701. That is version 8.
I have tried this a couple of days, many times per day, it just gives me the same error.
I have read people with other Transformer models who contacted ASUS and gave them their serial numbers and MAC-addresses, which seems to solve the problem in some cases.
Others are refering to ASUS devicetracker (devicetracker.asus.com) which seems to be taken down, or is it just available in US?
I called ASUS, they never heard of the problem.
I am thankful for any help!
I think you ended up downloading the unlock tool for the TF700, not TF701. The latter only has one tool, version 1.
The former has the v8

Thanks, but version 8 is the right one. It's just called v 1.0 on ASUS TF701 support site.
Ok, in that case just keep trying. For some people it literally took 40 -50 tries and it worked all the sudden.
At the same time register your tablet on Asus VIP service, then conatct them and explain your problem.
The mismatched database entries was a big problem for many TF700 owners - haven't heard anything like that for the TF701 ever.
Send them a screenshot of your About Tablet page with each mail and ask them to check their database and correct the entry for your tablet.
Good luck

Thanks, I will do as you suggest and contact them via the support form instead of calling.

I just wanted to put in my two cents here. I've been having the same issues with the bootloader unlock tool for the last 3 months. I've called customer support numerous times and been told too bad. We don't support that. We don't care. I bought this tablet for its vast power but I am not even allowed to experience its full potential. I am deeply disappointed in Asus. It has been nothing but problems with this thing but through patience some have resolved themselves.
You're suggestion may have been the light at the end of my tunnel. I have never hears of the VIP support until now. I have done the same, registered and sent them a ticket request. I uploaded a screenshot of the screen saying password incorrect.
Here's hoping this can finally be resolved. If this fixes it, I'll be sure to tell everyone that's still having problems with the tool.

Yes, officially Asus does not provide any support as soon as yu mention "unlock". That's why people were telling them thry could not get registered for Asus Device Tracker (same problem: no s# in Asus database = no device tracker).
The VIP service people seem to be a little more receptive than general support. But it really depends on who happens to read your mail...
That's why you want to be persistent. Turn yorself into a polite and friendly PITA and don't forget to attach a screenshot to each mail you send.

Do you get "password incorrect"?
I think you have to turn off two factor login on your Google account. You may also have to log in to your Google account website and turn on "allow unsecured apps".

I am not talking about the "Unknown sources" in Android.
I don't know the exact description since English is not my first language, but if you log in to for an example Gmail, then go to your Google account up to the right, you will find an option for allowing "unsecure apps".
I hope it was understandable.

I think I found what you're referring to. It's in the Google account management section. It's the area where you can make your internet experience immune to Google's pull. You can edit adsense settings, see your entire Google history, YouTube videos you've viewed all sorts of stuff. It's really cool, but unfortunately the boot loader unlock tool doesn't come up in that list of apps. That list consists of third party apps that have all already gained access.
If you're referring to yet a different screen, maybe a screenshot would be helpful?

If you are not using two-factor authentication this link should work:

And some info:

Yeah, this looks like the classic database mismatch problem. Keep trying to use the app and contact Asus.
It really depends on who you happen to talk/email to. So don't give up. Just read about someone who bought an unlocked TF701 on ebay which was totally messed up and he/she got an RMA approved without any problem...
Ask for a supervisor, escalate it... If you're willing to give up your warranty - why should they care?
So I walked away from it. Came back and for sh**s and giggles I hit the button and BOOM the lock on my bootloader was blown wide the freak open.

Hello,
Can someone please explain if its possible to stop the update that lowers your battery to 60 max charge? Im with tmobile, running on the PI4 and have NOT updated yet but I received my first warning. I want to keep this phone, I dont feel I'm at risk and I only charge the phone when Im awake. Please let me know if this is possble, and if you can point me in the right direction. I'm not a complete newbie but Im not pro either.
Thanks in advance for any help
Look for the new thread under questions and answers saying package disable pro. It'll solve your problem. I also got the update but didn't apply it from Tmobile. Using the steps outlined from the user in package disabler pro version number 6.3 it removed the update icon I had received. Again, be sure to follow the instructions from that new thread by not using the newest version. Use the 6.3 that the poster provided.

You have to also remember and be careful to not update Package Disabler Pro or EZ Disabler in the PlayStore. Samsung forced them to remove system updates from their apps. Sucks to have to manually update everything, but that is where we are at.

I know that wasn't meant for me, but absolutely no can do!! The phone I will get may not be released in the US until January, plus T-Mobile still has my bill jacked up! I'm not going to fight them for a full refund until they stop charging me for a phone I already paid for in full! I've been fighting them since September to correct my bill! Then, they have to clean up that mess of charges for the Tab and everything else. I'm using this baby until the day my refund is clear to be deposited directly back into my account with no problems AND when I can get my hands on the Huawei Mate 9!
My note 8 has never been near or in any water, not even rain drops have hit it. Now randomly it will pop up and say water detected in usb port. Which doesn't really effect me being able to use the phone, I use a wireless charger anyway. It's just annoying that it keeps popping up from time to time. Sometimes it will go weeks without doing it, one time it popped up and the phone rebooted itself and the warning was gone when it restarted. I talked to sprint about it and they basically showed me the door telling me to go to samsung who was equally useless. The first time it happened it wouldn't go away for days and I finally did a factory reset. That worked for the last 3 months, now all of a sudden it's back again.

Check that your port doesn't have any excess lint in it. Also what software version are you on. I think there's one with a bug dealing with the port and causing the device to reboot.
It's clean and I'm on official oreo, not rooted, only custom thing I've done is make a theme using the themeGalaxy app.
I'm getting this quite a lot now. First time it lasted 3 days before it cleared itself. I've had it today but cleared on a day. Deffo a software thing as the port looks clear to me.

Are you on the latest firmware, or an earlier Oreo build instead?
My build is N950USQU3CRBB.

Ok I think the issue was resolved on later builds if I recall correctly. If you decide to update try and test from there.

Not sure what sprints latest is but u4 bootloader is more current. If you do go form 3-4 there is no root option for now or ever.

This.
And you can't downgrade either, so be sure before pulling the trigger
I don't really care about root, I just want to make sure I flash the right one. Anyone know where I can make sure I find the right one for sprint? And I'm guessing I have to use Odin for it right?

Go to sammobile or updato.com, put it your model number, and you should be able to find the latest firmware for your specific model there. Yes you would need to use Odin (be sure to read up on the instructions in the other threads and be familiar with the process before jumping into it...saves time in the end ).

Okay awesome, I'm fairly familiar with Odin, used it on my note 3 back in the day and it's what I used to get the note 8 to Oreo. I was really just concerned with what version I could go to and from, I know in the note 3 days you couldn't skip certain updates. So you were stuck sitting there updating your phone like 3 times through Odin just to get to the version you wanted.
the moisture in charging port is a know error since S8/S8+ and Samsung is well aware of it.
I had it on my first Note8 and there's a few things you can try, cleaning the charging port with gently with alcohol wipes - delete cache in USB in system apps - factory reset -
But best option is to back up everything and flash latest software using Odin.
I ended up just sending mine in for warranty repair as it was only 2 months old

forgot to say that you can still charge using the cable but you need to first turn off the phone and then connect the cable just as the boot up starts
