I have a Nook HD+ running SlimKat 4.4.4. The WatchESPN app has been running well for the most part. However, the app has a restriction that only allows Monday Night Football to be watched on desktops or tablets - not on phones. The app is recognizing my Nook HD+ as a phone and therefore is not allowing me to watch these certain broadcasts.
Does anyone know how to have my device actually be recognized as the tablet that it is? I have limited knowledge on where to look, but what I found so far that I thought may be relevant is that in the build.prop are the following properties:
ro.build.characteristics = tablet
ro.product.device = ovation
ro.product.brand = Android
ro.product.manufacturer = Barnes & Noble
ro.product.model = BN NookHD+
ro.product.name = slim_ovation
Thanks for the help.
You must backup original build.prop.
And change only model and brand.
Try this.
Galaxy tab 8.4 (wifi)
ro.product.model=SM-T320
ro.product.brand=samsung

I heard people got nook color's bluetooth to work, is it stable enough to run this? shop. brando.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-case-with-bluetooth-keyboard_p05269c0299d 057.html
And is the dimensions of nook color the same as the Galaxy tab (to fit in that thing?)
With Doc 2 Go I think the nook color would be a decent netbook if that gets set up.
Also, yet to root my nook yet, but is the root stable? I've been hearing that shortcuts don't work and there are random rebooting XD
Please give me some input!
no, bluetooth is not working yet development is continuing and we are hopeful.

I don't think the Nook will fit because it is larger than the galaxy
Hi, my wife wants to get a tablet and she has 3 requirements. She wants to watch movies and TV shows that are in avi, able to browse flash websites, and view shows on abc.com/hulu/etc.
I read about the xoom bugs and the price is a little outrageous. Not really interested in the Samsung tab. The nook color rooted would be a great value but can it do those things?
Thanks. Calicene.

2 out of 3?
HI
i am using a nook color. with phiremod 5.1 flashed onto the eemc CUSTOM ROM
1. if you are using rockplayer to watch the avi files for tv shows you download it won't be a problem.
2. flash 10.2 the latest version works.
3. me personally i have not been able to get hulu to work reliably. there is a flashplayer hack out there for the viewsonic gtab. i installed it on my nook but it didnt have audio. there is supposed to be a paid app called playon.tv ? but it wasnt reliable for me on trial either..
i purchased my nook color for 200 bucks on the ebay deal, with tax and shipping 216. so i am very happy with it. I use it for digital photo menu at my restaurant. screen is very very clear. it plays games well. also the battery life is good. i think nook color from the store + tax is like 266 dollars.
i also just purchased the viewsonic gtab for 285 shipped from woot.com, its also 307 from tigerdirect (look on the gtab general forums in xda) havent received it yet.
also, i could only get slingbox to work on a nookiefroyo build running off the sd card... if you wanted to have another tv option.
the hardware is very nice for 250 bucks.
Thanks for the input. What about abc.com and nbc.com for stream viewing shows? She visits those sites more than hulu anyways. Also, do you like the viewsonic gtab or nook color better?
I just tried both abc and nbc.com. neither would play on mine. I'm running flashed nookie froyo with flash 10.2 through the dolphin broswer. Nbc saaid not compattible with my device and abc wanted latest version of flash 10.1. Not sure why 10.2 wouldn't work.
nbc and abc both playing on cm7, bluetooth build. albeit - they are both choppy. hulu says not a supported platform... do the gtab and galaxy play this stuff smoothly?
i am not overclocked, and wonder if that would help.
I'd like to be able to install tablet optimized applications on my touch pad, but they are obviously shown as not compatible as its already being spoofed as a Galaxy S2 due to similar hardware. Is there a tablet we can spoof with identical specs that will let us install tablet apps on the touch pad?
Thanks!!

If you feel like you must change your device by the build.prop (aside from a few Gameloft games, what's the point?), you might consider changing it to the HTC Jetstream. Same CPU/GPU combo as the Touchpad, only major difference is that the Touchpad has a different screen resolution and no cellular connection.
BTW, Galaxy S2 has absolutely nothing in common with the Touchpad, exynos != snapdragon.
The Pantech Element would be a good device. Its a tablet offered by At&t with Honeycomb, 1024x768 resolution and the same GPU/CPU that the Touchpad has. Problem is I can't find the build.prop anywhere.

Or any tablet optimized versions or any app on the market... try downloading CNN tablet edition... you can only get phone apps.
At this point I'd like any tablets build.prop device info so I can go get the apps I want then switch back.

If anyone needs help on HOW to edit the build.prop this is a really helpful video. He slows it down for you. When you're done you'll realize how easy it actually is.
Reverend's Build.Prop Walkthrough
Now for the actual build.prop info... have you checked around for a Pantech forum somewhere? Maybe you could ask someone there to open the file system and tell you what to key in. Its not a complex file, just text.
this worked for me.. now tablet apps show up. I monkey'd with a few different options so I can't recall if I had to wipe store date cache or not to get it to recognize the change...

That is the Galaxy S2 which the OP already has. Strange. Also it doesn't really matter if the specs of the tablet you change it to are different.
You could try GT-P7500 which is the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Not sure if that will help. Before you try, have you tried clearing market data? Mine shows tablet apps even though the build.prop says GT-19100.

oops.. i missed that. and mine shows all the tablet apps also. clearing the market data is probably what fixed mine after I changed it.
Has anyone considered or know if it is possible to build a rom for this based on the stock kindle fire hd? If so I would be interested in trying.

I read this and thought it was sort of a goofy question at first but now you've got me thinking...
What happens if you install a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 ROM on the Nook HD+? For that matter, has anyone tried a stock Kindle Fire HD 8.9 restore? I know there are boot loader differences but I'm thinking leave the Nook HD+ bootloader or (working) custom recovery intact. Just the ROM itself. They're both OMAP 4 based - granted the Kindle has cameras and the Nook has the micro SD slot but they're pretty close to the same hardware-wise.
I'm intrigued to think I might be able to have my Nook think it's actually a Kindle Fire HD 8.9...
Thoughts?
Browsing around on the Kindle 8.9 Dev forum found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41301028
It mentions there being some secret data related to Amazon registration, along with serial # of the device. Given that, its probably not nearly as simple as getting a stock KF 8.9 ROM running on the Nook. You'd likely need a backup of the partition that post is referencing too. Also, could be that the Nook is using that area for something.
Very complex mess ... If you did happen to own both devices I guess you might be able to make your Nook spoof being your Kindle. Otherwise your best case I can imagine is your Nook is spoofing being someone else's Kindle which Amazon & that other Kindle's actual owner might not appreciate...

Ive been searching for a way to download Kindle Fire specific apps from the Amazon store to my Nook HD plus running cyanogen. Ive been "purchasing" the free Amazon app of the day for weeks, but a lot of them will only run on the kindle fire. You can purchase the app, but you cant download the kindle specific app unless you have a kindle fire.
As an alternative, has anyone tested downloading a kindle fire specific app, and copying the files over to another android device? Would the app still run?
I'm a complete noob but was easily able to install cyanogenmod 10.1 in my nook HD+ thanks to e.mote's great dummies guide.
My problem is that my modded unit still identifies itself as a Nook HD+ to the app store which then refuses to install some apps because they are incompatible with the Nook HD+. I managed to find an apk of one of the apps I wanted and it installed and worked just fine so the limitation looks bogus at least in that case. Also Amazon refuses to stream movies through the browser - non supported device. Is it possible to change the reported device id so that I'm not limited by Nook HD+ personality restrictions?
cheers lu

You can but most users have found it does not help. Best to just sideload apps or use other stores like Amazon or 1mobile.com.

Agreed - I modified build.prop in the system folder to change the ID. It didn't help my main issue AZ streaming which doesn't seem to like anything except apple and kindle mobile products.
thanks for the input

You need Flash and a browser that supports Flash to use Amazon streaming. You can get the Flash player from an archive page on the Adobe site, the latest one for Android 4.0 (ice Cream Sandwich) works but is not supported on Jelly Bean/CM10.1 & 10.2. For browser, you can use Dolphin Browser once you enable the Flash plugin in its settings.
