I doubt it will be possible since Gear VR makes use of Samsung proprietary base software (services and apps).
I think this is like asking to have Touchwiz working on AOSP or CM12.
I'm running FireKat V9 and AEL Kernel V7.2 with Gear VR with no issues whatsoever.
Cheers!

Neither AOSP nor CM possess proprietary Samsung software so very highly doubtful.

You can use the Gear VR under AOSP or any other. But it will only work as a Google Cardboard viewer. Oculus will not work at all. In fact just a few of the customized Samsung ROMs allow the use of Oculus apps and games.

No, it requires proprietary Samsung software. No AOSP.

[Q] Can I install a pure ICS on Galaxy Note?

I want to buy a Galaxy Note, but don't like the Samsung shell on top of Android. Is there a way to get to the bootloader and install a pure ICS?

Wait for the Cyanogenmod team to finish their build of CM9 for the Note
i believe the answer is no you can't just plop ICS down on the note or for that fact any phone. reason being android is just an operating system and each manufactor supplies drivers for the different hardware of each phone. there is no pure android build on any phone.

Download the ICS launcher and that should hold you over till CM9 comes out

I was addressing this comment. By the way, the Nexus One was an HTC built phone.
my bad. the phones strickly from google are pure. the same ones sold from carriers need them for the updates.
So if i install the ICS launcher and then upgrade to ICS when it comes out am i not having a pure ICS system? If not then what is left from samsung in my phone that gets in my way of the pure ICS experience?

Ok, i thought that touchwiz was a launcher. It seems i need to grasp the definition of what is touchwiz yet.
A carrier is the company that provides you with telephone service right?
Could you direct me to a link of a concise touchwiz definition(Not wikipedia, i find it very general) so i can better understand why it cannot be removed from my phone?
Thanks

To remove TouchWiz is almost impossible. If you really want that, you will need some serious skills in android-modding. (Its not impossible, only almost).
What i would recommend you is to wait for ICS, see if you like the touchwiz 5.0. (right now the newest samsung devices are running TW 4.0) According to samsung, TW5 should be quite similar to "pure-android" as it was codeveloped by google.
On the other hand, if you dont like that, or if you dont wish to wait, then there is only one solution. Install custom rom. Cyanoged should be probably the best choice, as their launcher is extremely similar to the ISC stock (i think its called trebuchet, but i am not really sure)

Gear with AOSP?

sorry if it has been posted but I'm posting from my Note 3 so it's hard to search. But will we have full functionality with the Gear if we run AOSP on our phones? Or even better is there a possibility of getting custom roms on the gear? I'm still on the fence on getting the gear or not because I always wind up leaving TW and running AOSP so I was concerned.

I have this very same question, I believe it will be possible to a certain degree..
I own a S4, running CM10.2, Iv downloaded the gear manager apk and installed it on my phone.. it does fail installing the library's, although it does generate the library .apks on the sdcard located in a /Gear directory. So I have been manually installing them.
I believe the call functions will work fine, along with customizing the clock faces, although in terms of notifications etc. I cant be certain..
As for custom roms for the gear, I believe this will be possible in the future. After all the gear does run its own dedicated firmware, so it wouldn't be that hard.
I dont actually own a gear just yet, I may be going out today and purchasing one. If the gear generates enough interest from developers you can bet your ass there will be 100% compatibility with AOSP roms in the future.. You may have to use some third party apps but Im quite certain it will be possible.
Hopefully someone who owns a gear can confirm some of the working features at the moment with AOSP!
Well, for FULL compatibility, you need touchwiz... (or parts of it)

Stock touchwiz. will update to 4.3 over the weekend. My guess is that it'll just work as Bluetooth headset like on non-Samsung devices
i don't know if it's impossible but I hope some of our amazing devs find a way to get full functionality with AOSP even if it means using third party apps or using AOSP on the watch also. That is the only reason I haven't brought a Gear yet. Because I know regardless of how many features Samsung added to the note 3 once AOSP roms become available I will be jumping over.

Or just port the relevant apps
It's still a nice watch with out the phone integration though
anyone tried yet ?
i've installed most if not all the apps that have been posted on this forum to a galaxy S4 running AOSP 4.3 so far i have full access to calls and some apps.. evernote, myfitnesspal, easydo, twitter feeds, facebook feeds, and watchstyler. notifications do not work and neither does weather updates. has anyone else had progress on this?

Galaxy S3 and GG

Hey! So our Galaxy S3 received "official" update through OTA in some countries. The update brings 4.3.1 and GG works good with this TouchWiz ROM. However, users started to report lots of bugs and instability in this ROM, and so do I. Samsung decided to cancel it and they will have to work on the ROM again, which I guess won't be released before end of the year, they have been telling us lies for a long time.
So here is my question: which custom ROMs did you get to work? I'm looking for a basic functionality - and that is mostly notifications (through gear getter or ATN), bluetooth answering calls and camera. that's all. i don't need weather, i don't need s voice, but i want custom bluetooth tethering to work.
help?
I couldn't get any customs Roms to work with the gear and my s3. But the leaked 4.3 official worked great.

ah that's a shame. which leaked version are you using? i flashed the one from ireland, and i have to take out battery few times a day, i'm loosing connection all the time. it's really unstable, but i don't want to part with my watch.
Iv had my GG working on my phone for the past month now with S3 and CM rom

wait I'm confused, if i were to get the GG and i have pacrom for my s3 and its running 4.3.1 do you think they will work together?
I am using imperium rom v21 with 4.3 and if I use the GM 1.2 posted here it works if I download the app from Samsung app it gives me an error message and I can't use it.
roms
what roms are you guys using to allow for bluetooth tether? i have been throuh a few havent found one that will work..
stockmod rom, s3rx, Dandroid
I thought Null was supposed to open the compatibility issue. Is that rom not working for the Galaxy 3?

Null did allow for it to happen, however the rom on your phone had to have bluetooth tether enabled or the ability to do so, in the US just about all carriers had it blocked
I just tried Cyanogenmod 11 and so far it bluetooth tether is working...not so sure about other features just yet

Android 5.1. update is LIVE!! Yay! Build G925FXXU2BOFJ

T-Mobile Galaxy S5 just got the 5.1 update, build G900TUVU1FOF6.
The international set used to receive before US-sets but it seems T-Mobile is bucking the trend. Anyway, hope it is ported soon. Or we have our own official 5.1 firmware soon. :good:
Here's the link http://31.220.4.75/dl/TMB-G900TUVU1FOF6-20150622093044.zip
I wonder if we can run this on 900f with a custom kernel? What's the worst thing that would happen: soft brick? or need to flash ofw in odin?
Edit: Here's a mega mirror.
And here's a system dump with APK's and whatnot .
Can anyone post some screenshot of this release? Thanks in andvance!

No new theme engine. Typical Samsung-style move - artificially forcing previous models to look and feel old by not updating touchwiz on them.

Remember that Galaxy S2, born with Android 2.3.3, received the "Nature UX" namely TouchWiz 5.0 with same features of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on Galaxy S3. Maybe they think that the new Touchwiz is no such new than the "older" one on S5 KitKat nay on S5 Lollipop with white UI.

Yeah, best case scenario for when we get an official s6 rom is a whole year from now.
If they're gonna copy Apple and the iphone they might as well copy their update style and keep all devices with the same os and ui...
Although the thread has started with the Idea of Port, it has become Firmware Feature discussion. That should be happening in [SM-G900/F/K/L/W8/A/T/M] S5 Firmware Thread
Any firmware should be posted in that thread if its not there already. You can choose to Work with that OP if need be. This one needs to close as its duplication.

Galaxy Note 5 OFFICIAL Nougat RELEASED, possible port for Galaxy Note 4 (N910C)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b3IbkOrkYtE
The official Galaxy Note 5 Nougat firmware has been released on SamMobile. Since Nougat is the most complete Android version in existence while also improving battery life marginally, I think it would be amazing if someone could port the Galaxy Note 5 ROM for the Galaxy Note 4 International Exynos variant (N910C).
Lol
Or the 910V!

To port a certain firmware the device has to be on the same software level or the hardware should be the same eg: The note 7 "Grace UX" came out with marshmallow so devs were able to port it to the note 4. The next scenario is where the hardware is of the same. The note 5 has a 7420 exonys chip set while the note 4 has the 5433 chip set. So this is clearly impossible. Our best bet is the Samsung Tab s2 which has a exonys 5433 chipset and is due to receive nougat somewhere by the end of may

One thing that confuses me, is that devices like the Galaxy S4 and even the Galaxy S4 mini, have completely stable roms running Nougat, even though Samsung stopped updating those after Lollipop. I see AICP, ResurrectionRemix and all these other projects that create this amazingly rock stable rom for the devices, yet for the Exynos variant of the Galaxy Note 4, there doesn't seem to be any movement. :crying:

I used to own a samsung s4 myself before i switched to the note 4 and it was the i9505 (snapdragon variant). Android Open Source (AOSP) roms are possible only for snapdragon devices because the soc's are open source and exonys as we know is manufactured by samsung and samsung does not release the sources thats why AOSP roms are not easy to port to exonys variants. I regret switching phones because the s4 has so many stable aosp roms while the exonys variant's get nothing. Hope i answered your question

Ahh yes, I had a feeling it had something to with the chipsets. It's a shame, I paid full price recently to buy the Exynos variant specifically for modding. I chose Exynos over the Snapdragon variant because the Exynos chip is 64bit compared to the Snapdragon which is 32bit, so it seemed like a better choice given that the Android ecosystem is headed towards 64bit ever since Lollipop and so I would be future-proofing my device. Unfortunately now it seems Exynos is a lot more difficult to make roms for I guess it's almost like comparing the PS3 with the Xbox 360: PS3 has more power than the 360, but the PS3's CBE chip is so much more difficult to make games for. Here's hoping for a long and fruitful development life for the Exynos Galaxy Note 4 :fingers-crossed:

Also samsung doesnt advertise their exonys devices as 64 bit and marshmallow for the device is also a 32 bit os. In short samsung doesnt utilize the full capacity of the note 4's 64 bit chipset. But the advantage is that since the device and the chipset is made by the same company the phone is more fluid and responsive than its snapdragon counterpart. Something similar to googles pixel, software and hardware made by same company

Yup, v19 seems to be the best. I've found that battery life is abysmal when on UX roms :/ plus, there are far too many bugs from DN7 that I tried. I stuck with erobot 19 and am using Samsung's GoodLock and it works amazingly well. To be honest, I'm not bothered about the GraceUX anymore; Samsung's GoodLock literally does it all while looking sleek. So I've found erobot + GoodLock is the best combo so far! Only downside, fingerprint lock screen doesn't seem to be functional, but other than that, everything else is golden. I was tempted to head back to stock rom but it seems that Samsung cloud doesn't allow the Galaxy Note 4 on stock rom to backup and restore music and other files from Samsung Cloud. The only way I've found Samsung Cloud's backup/restore to fully work is by using erobot and hence why I've stayed away from stock.

It's the tray that pops up when you hold the back key but it seems to pop up randomly even when I'm not holding down the back key. Do you have any ideas how to stop that from happening without completely disabling multiwindow feature?

I don't think it is the old one, i mean i can see the split screen option above the app card when in recents but then you also have the option to open the app tray which has a bunch of apps in it that you can open in pop-up view.
I would take a screenshot of it but the side multiwindow tray disappears when i try to.
