Hello
I've had my nexus 7 since when it first came out. Now I also have Note 10.1 2014, but don't want to forego my beloved nexus.
My problem with it is that it is very slow now, and lagging opening an app, or even working in an app. Second, the battery drains very fast, usually within 6 hours or so.
Let me know what steps to take to bring it back like it used to be.

If you haven't installed the 5.02 update you should be pleased when you do. It greatly improved my N7 compared to 5.0.
I'm rooted, so not getting any OTAs. Will have to update other way.

True. My tablet has done the same thing went from a laggy unuseable device to a brand new device thanks to 5.0.2 and F2FS. You definitely will enjoy it once u get it up and going.

I flashed the factory img for 5.0.2 with the Wug's Toolkit to get my Nexus 7 up to date, then used it to root my device and install the latest TWRP.
No lag everything is smooth and fast
can you post the link for the toolkit etc?

I'm think about getting a tablet, and iv been thinking about the nexus 7 4g 2012 model. I'm wanting one that I can root and unlock and install custom ROMs on. I was looking at the galaxy tab 3 and 4 but its not really going any were that I've seen anyway. Would the nexus 7 4g 2012 model be a good choice, my budget is around 200$. Thanks

Hello
Thanks PapaMag.
I did a full unroot and flashed the 5.0.2 version. I like it so far. Now I have to customize my nexus, to work the way i want it to work.
The battery life is ok after update to 5.0.2, but no noticeable change in lagging ?
Same here
I didn't notice any improvement, too, after updating to 5.02. It has the same lag and it is totally unusable. I don't know about battery life, because I cannot use the tablet.
I think Google totally failed with this one. They definitely should put an OTA for going back to KitKat.

I saw you can unroot in supersu. I was wondering if i unroot would i be able to factory reset with no probpems and would all bloatware return even though i removed them?

No the bloatware will not return. You need to use the back to stock method. This will set the root checker back to zero and make the phone look like it's never been used.

What if I do a factory reset with a rooted device using stock AT&T firmware? It will brick?
My question goes because I'm gonna sell my device to a friend so I just want to leave it as it is, I just need to change Google account.

No. You can do a factory reset with a rooted g flex on any carriers firmware without issue(aside from losing all data). A factory reset won't unroot the device but I think you can do that through the superuser app itself.

I really liked the phone at first but I'm really sorry I bought it at this point. I miss my Sammy! I'm praying for loki and custom recovery:crying:
Yeah bro not being Abel to flash any roms right now and how this phone is right now got me bummed. At this point im willing to trade it for a note 3 or even the new htc one.
Guys. Honestly I've had all Sammy phones. And I've been rooting and modding and flashing for about 6 years. This is honestly the first phone I've never even had somewhat of an interest to root. I've read through the thread but right now there is no reason for me to root. Phone performs great. Looks great. Outstanding battery life. This phone is phenomenal AS IS. IMHO

You have to go back to stock for the update. I tried every way around that but it kept picking up on the root being tripped somehow.

Today android 5.0 Is roll out to nexus 7 2012 . I wait it today !!
Its only rumoured to be today. Not guaranteed. But I have to admit I'm pretty excited. This is one of the biggest android releases if not the biggest. I'm checking updates every 20 mins [emoji3]
Will the 2012 Nexus 7 be getting the Lollipop update?
Yes...we will!
http://www.androidcentral.com/yes-even-2012-nexus-7-will-get-updated-android-50-lollipop
Yes nexus 7 2012 is also guaranteed the update
I'm waiting for the factory image so I can start fresh as my n7 has been running like a pig.
I've actually moved away From the Nexus 7 onto the tab s , but still have the device and would like to see the impact that Lollipop has on a device that's Now 2 years old, and hopefully bring life back to the device for use , I understand the update is only rumoured to be out today but hopefully will be released
If Android L is pushed as an update I'll gladly ditch CM11 and return to stock.. Lol

So im not the only one that has been glued to my nexus 7 ? lol im so impatient ! ha
Yep, I'm flashed back to stock and waiting
Let's hope the nand problem is fixed (f2fs makes my n7 freeze) otherwise my n7 is going to fly from my balcony.
I was planning on returning to stock tonight after work. So there is no risk in taking this ota as far as rooting goes, right? A nexus will always be unlockable is my assumption
The problem with OTA is that the update take some random time to come, so if Google publish the images, I will flash manually
maybe it will be here today
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
and OTA after 2 weeks
Still waiting and refreshing for ota update then I check back twitter...saw this
I just updated LG Bridge trying to do a backup so I can try and root from the one click method. After LG Bridge updated I decided to check for an update and sure as **** there was one. I'm running it now. It is 1.66GB.
Are you noticing any improvements to touch response, performance, temperature, etc?

So far I can't make it all the way through the update process. I'm not sure if it is because of my attempts to root my device with the one click method and now stock recovery isn't on the phone?
UPDATE: Seems as though my drivers got messed up when my computer updated the LG Bridge app. Phone seems to be updating now.
UPDATE: Still just 5.1. Too soon to tell what has been improved upon.

You will most definitely have problems if you try to OTA update while having twrp. You'll have to re-root and re-flash twrp assuming the methods available now are still successful. Once someone packages it into a flashable zip you can keep twrp and root after flashing

Just tried it and I'm able to get 8 unplugged if I'm not moving fingers, was only able to get 6 before the update. Seriously tho I can notice the difference in responsiveness and overall use of the phone. Much snappier - this is what I was expecting when I first got the phone.

Can anyone confirm yet that this is 5.1.1? Or something else?

I imagine they'll update this page with a changelog whenever they officially announce the update:

I'm so surprised that AT&T released an update. Now if only there was a way to do what they've done with the regular GS6 on XDA and make mini updates for those of us still on OE2
Will there be a way to retain root and upgrade from OE2
I see the version change to 5.1.1 also, I heard RAW image support was going to be added to camera but I don't see that.
I get a error every time I try to install the update. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you are looking for a big change and a big reason to unroot and update. There isnt. I was rooted with 5.0.x for over a year. I loved it but got bored. I unrooted and went to stock 2 days ago and was going to root again until I saw this update today. It's snappy, clean fully of bloat but disabled a crap load of apps. It's OK but like I said if looking for a big change. Wait till 5.1.1 has a solid rooted rom first.

I installed the update yesterday and overall my phone runs MUCH better, multitasking is greatly improved and I've noticed I typically have much lower system ram usage than I had previously on 5.0.2. I did turn on Enhanced LTE and it still is draining my battery by quite a bit, I went to sleep last night at 59% and woke up at 36%, battery manager listed Cell Standby at 31% battery used. I also tried and was unable to enable UHQ Upscaler audio, not sure why that's the case. The option is simply greyed out.

Can this phone be rooted, TWRP'd, and flashed to nougat or marshmallow officially or otherwise?
Please help, any advice is appreciated.. Thanks
Depends on what version of android you have now if it can be rooted. If you have lollipop or marshmallow, then no, there is no root. Marshmallow is available via ota update.
